I've been meaning to write something for The Burning Maze for a while now

It was a cloudy morning in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The clouds cast dark shadows on the state, and a steady drizzle made everything cold and sick.

Piper shivered, pulling her Camp Half-Blood hoodie tighter around her.

She and her dad were back at Grandpa Tom's place. Back to where they started, before Gods and quests and evil emperor's ruined her life.

Back before they took Jason from her.

It was hard to look back fondly on her memories of Jason after they broke up. But now, it was even harder, because he wasn't coming back.

Hovering above the Grand Canyon. Celebrating his birthday in Rome. Recreating their first kiss, flying above the Zeus Cabin.

He was so determined to make sure all of the Gods get recognition. And how did they repay him? They take his life.

He better get Elysium, Piper thought. If anyone deserves an amazing afterlife, it's Jason.

He risked his life to save them. To save her. He deserved so much better.

Piper gasped. Tears streamed freely down her face. She wiped her nose on her hoodie sleeve, and it came back thick with snot.

Sniffling, she looked back in front of her. The gray clouds and now steady rainfall made the forest surrounding the place look like it was shrouded in mist.

A bit of sunlight broke through the mist, almost like Jason's ghost was smiling at her, telling her not to worry.

She smiled at the comparison. His hair always shone like the sun, and his eyes were as blue as the sky itself.

With tear tracks staining her face, Piper smiled at the sky. Jason may be gone physically, but his spirit would always be with her.

And with time, she would learn how to be okay with that.

Finally! An angst fic I'm proud of! Even if it's not super angsty
