~The snow was falling rather heavily now, as the Guardian of the Miraculous wandered through a park in his new home of Paris. He finally decided to settle down for a bit; maybe for a while, the Miraculous would be safe.
As he explored the small park, a soft crying reached his ears. Searching for the sound, Master Fu found a young girl curled into a ball under a nearby tree. She couldn't be more than four or five, he noticed, kneeling beside the child.
"Are you alright, little one?" The girl looked up at the sudden words, her red-rimmed grey eyes finding the old man. But rather than the color surprising him, it was the large bruise covering the child's entire left cheek and eye. Her bottom lip was split and there was something akin to a handprint wrapping around her neck.
The girl watched him, as he studied her injuries in shock. Master Fu took in her whole demeanor before realizing her tears were slowing.
"I'm alright, sir. My papa just gets a little angry sometimes." The child supplied the reasons for her injuries, her little arms snaking around her knees as she shivered in the cold. Master Fu stood and held out a hand to the girl, drawing her curious eyes upward.
"Come with me, you will catch a cold out here by yourself."
Obviously the child had been taught about strangers, but she felt a little nudge in her chest that told her this man would change her life. So she took the offered hand and followed the man back to his small apartment. There, Master Fu gave the girl a blanket and made her some tea. Once she was warm, Master Fu kneeled across from her.
"What is your name, little one?"
"I'm Ella Maunt. What's yours?"
At the girls words, Master Fu was shocked by the blinding blue light exploding from his record player. The wooden device began shaking, as if something was demanding to be set free. Before the man could move, a small bird-looking creature erupted from the cone.
"Kiismet- she's awakened! But that's not possible!"
But it seemed to be so. The little bird zipped through the air, only to come to a halt before the face of little Ella. The child and the creature stared at one another, silence embedding itself in the room. But after a moment, Ella reached out a finger and the bird responded by wrapping its little arms around the offered limb.
"Master?" Master Fu startled out of his reverie at the sound of Wayzz's voice. The man looked to his left to see his kwami floating beside him.
"How has Kiismet awakened?"
"The legends only tell of her awakening once her chosen guardian has appeared. And it seems that has happened."
"Mister? What is this thing?" Ella's voice caught his attention, drawing his gaze back to the girl and the kwami of destiny.
"This is Kiismet, Ella. Kiismet is called a Kwami: a special creature that can change someone into a superhero with a device called a Miraculous. And it seems that Kiismet has chosen you as her master."
Ella frowned, confusion dancing on her face.
"But how can I be a superhero? My daddy says I'm just a mistake." Master Fu frowned his own frown, unhappy to hear that this poor child has been abused.
"You are very special, Ella Maunt. Kiismet has chosen you, and that makes you a superhero, if you choose to be. The kwami of destiny is not a Miraculous to be taken lightly, as you will have the power to alter a person's future. Even if you don't become what is called 'The Raven's Wing', you can still have Kiismet by your side to aid you in the future."
Ella sat there, pondering Master Fu's words as the little kwami Kiismet nuzzled into her palms. Looking down at the little bird-like creature, Ella could feel a sense of protection and warmth washing over her.
"Even if I don't become a superhero, I can keep Kiismet?"
"Of course, she is your kwami and your friend."
"Thank you, Mister." Master Fu smiled at the girl, before his mind went back to the original reason he brought Ella to his home.
"Now, little one, please tell me what happened to your face. How did you get hurt?"
Two hours later, Ella told Master Fu of how her father loses his temper sometimes and takes it out on the little four year-old. Disgusted at how a father could do that to his own child, Master Fu sighed, shifting to stand so he could call and report the abuse.
"Master Fu." He turned back, shocked to see Ella's grey eyes glowing and Kiismet doing the same in her palms.
"You need to remain in Paris. It is your destiny to find, in twelve years time, the new holders for the Ladybug and the Black Cat." As the words left her mouth, the glowing stopped and little Ella fainted, arms going lax. Master Fu caught her little body and laid her down to the floor. Kiismet floated in the air a moment, looking back at her Guardian before flying forward and nuzzling herself into Ella's neck. Master Fu looked on for a moment, before gathering the girl in his arms. He returned to the park, laying the child on one of the benches. Once he returned to his apartment, he called the police to report the little girl in the park.
"Master? Are you sure it was wise to leave her?" Wayzz popped out of his hiding place, wringing his little hands.
"I am not sure, Wayzz, but we must trust the chosen one. If Kiismet has awoken for her, then we know that her destiny will be the best for her."~
