Bellamy POV: "Bea-Bellamy! Wake up, it's time for school!" my brother calls. I jerk awake, startled and more annoyed at
Ca-Conner than I ever thought possible. God, why is he such an asshole?
In case you're wondering about why we stuttered over each other's names is because we each have 2. My whole family does. And I don't mean a first and a middle name, I mean 2 sets of names. We had to go into the Witness Protection Program because my parents testified against a gang called Erudite in our old neighborhood, Abnegation.
They had attacked our family multiple times but it was only after we all got into a horrible car crash that we decided to take action.
Since I know that I have at least 10 minutes until I really have to get up, I lay in bed, thinking about the day in which my life did a 180 flip.
*Flashback*
"Since you testified against Erudite, it's remaining members will hunt you and your family down. To make this short, you are in danger. If you value your life, you will have to change your names, jobs, and altogether your lives."
My mother gasps "But, but, our family! Our friends! Will they be in danger too?" That's Mom, always more concerned about the well-being of others instead of her own family.
She is so selfless, I wish I could be like that. Still, I can't help but wish that she cared about her family's well being more than other people's.
"No, they will not be in any danger as long as you follow through with these plans. Now…" I tune out the rest of the man's words as I think about my new life, and my new identity that's sure to come.
*Flashback Ends*
Since then, my family had to pack up our lives and move from Santa Barbara to Chicago. We all received new names. My parents, Andrew and Natalie became Austin and Naomi. My older brother Caleb, Conner.. And me, Beatrice became Bellamy. I was not sad to let that one go, even if I went by my nickname Tris.
Our last name, Prior, changed to Price. We also all got middle names. None of us had any before because it was selfish. My parents were pretty big on selflessness, always making us volunteer.
And to further pull suspicion away from us, we adopted a 12 year old girl named Jasmine. That is not her real name, though. Her parents were also targets of Erudite, but they weren't as lucky as our family.
She looks pretty similar to us, so as far as anyone is concerned, Jasmine is the youngest daughter of Naomi and Austin Price, and the little sister of Conner and Bellamy Price by blood.
There are some perks to our new life beyond a little sister, though. My dad got a better job, for one. He used to work in the city council in Santa Barbara and managed to secure a job under Marcus Eaton, the mayor of Chicago. He has a son my age, maybe we will meet. I don't know if he goes to the same school as me, though.
Anyway, my mom is a nurse practitioner. She will be working at the Chicago Public Hospital starting today.
I am dragged from my thoughts by Jasmine's voice yelling "Bellamy! Get up right now or I will eat your breakfast!" I jump out of bed knowing that she is dead serious and throw on some clothes.
I put on a tight floral print tank top, black cropped sweater, light wash distressed skinny jeans, and black sandals. I take the time to curl my long, straight blonde hair so that it hangs in beachy waves. I also put on some makeup including concealer, mascara, eyeliner, lip gloss, and natural eyeshadow.
As I am doing this, I stare darkly at my reflection in the mirror, unsatisfied with it. Same large, round blue-grey eyes, pale complexion, narrow face, slightly too big nose, small build, and altogether child-like features. At least I grew a few inches during the summer, gained a bit of weight, and finally got boobs and an ass.
Now, with the makeup, I don't look AS MUCH like a 12 year old, instead more like the 16 year old girl I am. With a sigh, I put the makeup away and go downstairs, where the rest of my family is.
I run into Jasmine on my way down. Like I already said, she looks a lot like our family, but especially like me. She has a small build, blue-grey eyes, and fair skin. There are some differences between us though. Her face is rounder, dotted with a few freckles, and her hair is wavier and dark brown like my father's.
She is wearing a black graphic tee with a sunflower and butterfly design, dark blue leggings, brown boots, and lip gloss with come concealer and clear mascara. Her hair is done in a half up half down style.
She is 12, just 4 years younger than me, so she will be going to Chicago Middle School for 7th and 8th grade. "Earth to Bellamy!" Jasmine shrieks, snapping me out of my daze. "Oh and by the way, I decided to have mercy and did NOT eat your breakfast."
I am momentarily shocked, then I say "Aw, so you DO care about me!" "No", Jasmine snorts, "Mom just told me to show sisterly love, whatever that is." I fake a look of sadness and finish my trek downstairs.
Conner is eating breakfast at the table with my mom. I don't know where Dad is. Maybe he is still getting ready. Conner smiles at me in greeting and says "Took you long enough." I stick my tongue at him in response and grab the parfait in front of my seat.
Conner also has my father's dark brown hair but instead inherited my mother's pale green eyes. He also harbors a hooked nose and dimpled cheeks. When we were little, this combination of features looked odd but now it suits him. The girls at school are definitely going to be staring at him, just like at our old school.
He just turned 18 and will be a senior this year at our new school, whatever it's name is. Divergent High, I think? Mom smiles up at me, looking up from her newspaper called Chicago Daily. She is beautiful, with naturally wavy blonde hair, light green eyes, high cheekbones, and dimples.
Loudly she says, "How are you doing, Bellamy? Did you get lost on your way down? I know this house is so much bigger than our old one." Her tone and face are teasing, so I laugh and say "It sure is, Mom. But it's a lot better too. Where is Dad?"
Mom calmly says "He had to go to work early. But let's not focus on that right now. Just to be clear, you all know the plan after school right?"
Conner, Jasmine, and I all nod our heads. I jump slightly when I see Jasmine since I had not seen her enter the room. "Conner, you have clubs after school, correct?" Conner nods and beaming with pride he says "Yes, I got the invitation for Mathletes over the summer. It goes from immediately after school to 3:30."
Jasmine and I exchange looks of annoyance. Why is he such a nerd? "Good, good", my mother says. "Bellamy and Jasmine, are either of you going out for something?"
Jasmine and I both shrug. I was on the cheerleading squad and I played soccer competitively before. Maybe I'll do the same here. From what I know, Jasmine also did cheerleading and competed in volleyball tournaments outside of school. Clearly, we're the athletic ones. Not to say we're dumb though. We're just not geniuses.
After we finish eating, we get up and put our plates in the dishwasher. I notice that Conner is wearing a T-Shirt with the words Mathletes on it in big, bold letters. Aside from that, the rest of his outfit is normal; dark grey jeans and white sneakers.
"Conner," I say, "What are you wearing?" "Oh," Conner says, glancing down at his shirt, "The Mathletes shirt I got over the summer. Do you like it?" I stare at him in disbelief and say "Conner, you know that if you wear that shirt people will think that you are a nerd, right?" Conner looks at me and then says "I should change, huh?"
I nod and Conner goes back upstairs and returns wearing a blue shirt with green stripes. I nod my approval saying "Much better, Conner." He smiles at me and then turns to the clock and yells "We have to get going!".
We all say goodbye to Mom and grab our backpacks and phones before bolting out the door. Conner gets into his silver Ford Fusion and I get into my black Honda Accord along with Jasmine. I back out of the driveway and race to Divergent Middle. I managed to reach the school in record time and usher Jasmine out of the car.
Quickly saying bye, I drive to Divergent High School and make it there at the same time as Conner. "How did you beat me here, Bellamy?", Conner says in astonishment. "You'll never know…" I say in a mysterious voice. Conner gives me a look and says "You were speeding, weren't you?" I smirk and say in a horrible British accent "A proper lady never reveals her secrets."
Switching back to my normal voice I state "Now, we should go get our timetables." Conner sighs and says "The building we are supposed to go to is over there," he points to a building about 100 feet away.
"Fine," I say "let's go." As we are walking to the building, not many people look at us, which I am thankful for. I have never liked being the center of attention.
When we enter the building a woman with curly dark hair falling over her face looks up and smiles brightly. As she does this, I can see that she has a scar over 1 eye. She obviously tries to hide the scar with her hair but it does not fully work.
Conner speaks up and says "Hello, we are new students here. I am Conner and this is my sister Bellamy. Our last name is Price" The woman smiles, if possible, even more brightly and says "Yes, welcome, welcome. I am Ms. Reyes. Just to clarify, Conner is a senior and Bellamy is a sophomore, correct?"
We both nod and Ms. Reyes hands us both a few sheets of paper. "This is your timetable for this trimester, a list of clubs and teams you can join, and expectations in class. I look at the first page where my timetable is shown. It's...okay, at least.

Huh, 9 periods. I guess they do things differently in Chicago, I only had 8 in my last school.
Suddenly the bell rings and Ms. Reyes says "That bell means that you have 10 minutes to get to your first class." Conner and I thank her and go our separate ways. I put my stuff in my locker and as I walk to my first class, I scroll through Facebook. Me and Conner already made accounts and posted a few things.
Since I am distracted, I don't notice where I am going and I bump into someone. Oh no!, I think desperately as the figure turns around and…
