Massachusetts 1692

A mob was chasing down a woman named Eleanor Talbot who was running to her cabin deep in a wooded glen. She managed to reach her cabin just in time to warn her lover Jerry Dandridge.

"My dear sister betrayed me! She told the town I was a witch just to protect herself! Fortunately I managed to steal a magic ring from her. I need you to put it on, it will protect you from the mob when they get here.

When Jerry put on the ring he clutched his chest and fell to the floor, screaming in agony. It felt he was burning up from the inside.

"I thought this ring was supposed to protect? What did you do to me?!"

Eleanor Talbot cradled Jerry in her arms as he convulsed.

"This ring has turned you into a vampire, thereby making you immortal. Eventually I will return to you in the body of one of my sister's descendants. When you find the woman I've chosen, turn her into a vampire. Then I can return to you through her body. You must hide in the cellar. Hurry!"

Jerry hid in the basement by digging into the dirt floor, then laying in the shallow hole and covering himself up in the earth. He put his hands over his ears and shut his eyes, trying not to listen to Eleanor's screams as the mob beat her to death.

Iowa 1985

Two teenagers were lying on a bunch of pillows on the floor next to a bed kissing passionately but clumsily. A show called Fright night came on the television and a local celebrity who called herself Elvira: Mistress of the dark, started making a monologue about an old b-movie. The girl Amy tried to distract her boyfriend Charlie from going further by telling him his favorite show is on, but he said that he was more interested in her. As they continued kissing, Charlie started to move his hand underneath Amy's shirt and she pushed his hand away.

"Charlie stop it!"

They got into a brief argument because Amy was nervous about going further. She kissed him and went over to his bed, undressing herself. She got into his bed and used her shirt to cover herself, still feeling a little unsure. Charlie was looking out the window, preoccupied with two men carrying something.

"I'm ready Charlie."

Without looking at Amy, Charlie said that there are people outside carrying a coffin while he continued to look out the window. Amy glared at Charlie and got out of bed, quickly putting on her shirt and pants as she stormed out of the room angrily. Charlie turned when he heard the door slam and followed her downstairs while trying to explain as she rushed to the door, buttoning her shirt up. Amy finally stopped when they reached the bottom of the stairs and turned around.

"I don't get it, first you want to make love and then you don't!"

They both looked at each other, embarrassed when they heard Charlie's mother from the next room.

"Amy, Charlie! What's wrong?"

They both shrugged and Charlie said that nothing was wrong.

"Get in here you two."

They casually walked into the living room.

"Are you two having a lover's spat?"

Charlie assured his mother it wasn't anything like that and walked over to the living room window. Charlie's mother continued to talk to Amy about random marriage statistics while he looked out the window again at the neighbors, then reminded Amy to tell her mother about their poker game next Saturday.

"Goodnight Amy. Thanks for helping Charlie with his homework."

Amy nodded and left, feeling a little embarrassed.

Tuesday

Next tuesday at lunch Charlie was going over some homework when he was relieved to see Amy join him at the table. He hadn't seen her since their fight last saturday. They started talking about their relationship when Charlie glanced over at the cafeteria's television and saw the face of a woman he met yesterday that was looking for 99 Oak street. He walked over to the television set while Amy was talking, becoming more focused on the news report and heard she was reported missing. Annoyed at her boyfriend for not listening to her, Amy grabbed a hamburger from a discarded tray, walked up behind Charlie and tapped his shoulder. As soon as Charlie turned around she shoved the hamburger into his face and walked away angrily, causing a friend of his named "Evil" Ed Thompson to start laughing. All the students in the cafeteria turned when they heard Evil Ed laughing hysterically and joined in the laughter when they saw Charlie standing underneath the mounted television with part of a hamburger oozing down his face.

Billy was in the basement coating the windows with black paint when he saw someone walking up to the house. He set down his paintbrush and walked outside to see what he was up to. After Billy told him to leave, he watched the nosy teenager to make sure he left, then went back inside and helped Heather Johanson, a woman he paid to help unpack boxes. After they moved furniture upstairs Billy told Heather she could take a break. Heather saw a glint of light from the coming from a window of the house next door and moved to the window to take a closer look. Billy went downstairs just as Jerry was waking up and told him his supper was waiting in the upstairs bedroom. Jerry walked upstairs to Heather and noticed she was by the window looking out at something. Heather turned around when she heard music and saw Jerry standing by the doorway. When the man started to walk over to her she felt something compelling her to be with him. She turned back to the window, unbuttoning her red shirt as he approached. The man rested his hands on her shoulders, slowly slipping off her shirt. Jerry kissed the back of her head, then whispered to Heather to unhook her bra and she moved her hands to her chest, answering his request. He moved his fingers through her hair, brushing it aside as he kissed her neck. Just before he was going to bite her, Jerry sensed he was being watched and moved in front of Heather, looking directly at Charlie's window. He saw someone back away from the house's window next door as he moved in front of his victim to take a closer look. Heather was shocked when Jerry pulled down the window blind with a clawed hand. After he pulled down the blind Jerry turned toward Heather before she could react and bit her on the neck, causing her to let out a painful gasp. Jerry finished draining Heather's blood and beheaded the body to prevent her from returning, then ordered Billy to carry the body out to his jeep. Jerry appeared a few moments later and gave a purse to Billy Cole. They heard a woman calling someone from the house next door and started to look around the yard to see if they were being watched. As Jerry moved toward the bushes he saw a young teenager dart back into the house, pulling his mother in with him. Jerry went back into the house and Billy got in the jeep, driving off to dispose of the body.

Wednesday

The next day Charlie ditched school to go to the police department and have them investigate his neighbors. After making himself look like an idiot by calling Jerry Dandridge a vampire and receive a warning not to make waste the department's time with pranks, Charlie immediately left the police station. Running out of time, he drove to Evil's house and asked him for help only to have Evil Ed make fun of him as well. He noticed Ed was adjusting a police scanner and figured he must have heard about what happened. After a few minutes Evil Ed stopped laughing and told him how to protect himself from a vampire.

"There's crosses, garlic, holy water, but you have to get a priest to say a blessing over it first. Silver can be used if you actually have any. But your best protection right now…Charles, is that a vampire cannot enter without being invited by the rightful owner."

After he came home from Ed's, Charlie's mother introduced him to Jerry Dandridge who she had invited over. Jerry greeted Charlie and shook his hand. Charlie backed away nervously and went upstairs to his room, leaving his mother and Jerry to continue their conversation. Jerry came back later that night and after jamming the door to his mother's room he went to Charlie's room. He tried to be diplomatic by convincing Charlie to forget about him, which Charlie refused to do. Jerry immediately grabbed Charlie by the neck and moved toward the window. He opened the window and started to push Charlie out. As Charlie struggled he saw Amy's picture fall out the window and destroyed by a fence post. He turned his attention back to Jerry and grabbed a pencil from his desk, stabbing Jerry's wrist. Jerry immediately let go of Charlie's throat and clutched his wrist, howling in pain. Jerry was about to attack the teenager again but heard the boy's mother had woken up and was asking what was going on. Jerry left the Brewster house, trashing Charlie's car on his way home.

Thursday

The next day after school, Charlie took a taxi to the local television studio, hoping to meet Elvira, mistress of the dark. She was a celebrity who seemed to be an expert on vampires and the occult. Just as she was walking toward her car, she saw a teenage boy with a look of desperation on his face running toward her. Elvira looked at him and smiled.

"Another fan, huh? Let's make this quick, darlin'. Got a pen?"

Charlie frowned, confused and the smile slipped from Elvira's face.

"You want my autograph, right?"

"Well, no. But I do need your help. My next door neighbor's a vampire, and he's trying to kill me."

Elvira laughed. "Honey, that's great. Keep it up and you just might put me outta business." Charlie waved his arms frantically. "I'm serious! I already went to the police, but they blew me off! You're the only one who can help me!" She rolled her eyes and walked to her black convertible with her heels clicking on the pavement. "Jeez, would you listen to yourself?" Charlie grabbed her car door before she could open it. "Elvira, please!" The Mistress of the Dark kneed him in the crotch and he doubled over, moaning in pain. "Get a life, kid. Sheesh!" She slammed the door and sped off, leaving Charlie helpless.

Later that day Amy and Evil came over to Charlie's house to see why he didn't show up for school and learned about his plan to kill Jerry. Worried about Charlie's state of mind and what he might be capable of, the two decided to visit Amy's aunt Elvira and ask for help in convincing him that Jerry isn't a vampire.

"I ran into him earlier today at the television station. You could do better Amy. Your boyfriend is really coo-coo for cocoa puffs."

Upon hearing this Evil laughed hysterically, but stopped when Amy hit his shoulder. "Charlie's a great guy, he's just… got a lot on his mind, I guess." Amy looked at the floor. She didn't sound too convinced of her own words. Elvira sighed, looking up at the ceiling. "All right, what do I have to do?"
