Trouble for Rick as the family discovers he has been secretly monitoring and recording their dreams.
Here's the outline
At night when everyone sleeps, Rick sneaks off to his lab to a secret room. Lights out, illuminated only by the glow of monitor screens, Rick tunes into the dreams of the Smith family members - monitoring them.
During dinner, Rick secretly drugs the family meal/drinks with 'dream formula' to induce nightmares, fantasy, etc (types of dreams). Then monitors them; making him aware of the family members deepest desires/ secrets/ etc.
Eg. Summer talking about having a crush. Rick smiles knowing who it is at the dinner table.
Ricks character profile is some perverted control freak who likes being smarter than everyone, having power over people, and messing with people for personal enjoyment.
It all backfires on Rick when a mix-up of drugged food during dinner, Rick gets a taste of his own medicine.
Plates are switched in front of him and he can't keep track of, Rick is peer pressured into eating. Immediately after, Rick excuses himself, rushes to the bathroom toilet to throw up the food.
He thinks it worked, but it doesn't.
That night, Rick falls asleep in the secret monitoring room and experiences nightmares.
The next morning, Rick is absent from breakfast. Shouts and screams, leads the family to discover Rick in a waking schizophrenia. Rick falls into a coma.
The family investigate and discover what Rick has been doing.
The family debates over whether to save Rick with an angry Jerry and Summer at odds with a sympathetic Beth and Morty who want to save Rick.
With the family split, Beth and Morty work to save Rick while Jerry and Summer watch on. Morty 'enters' Ricks dream to rescue/ repair the damage done with Beth monitoring Ricks progress and communicates with Morty from the outside of Ricks dream.
Deep into the rescue, the doorbell rings. Jerry and Summer answer to police detectives. They want to ask questions about Rick on unrelated charges.
Jerry and Summer, who are angry at Rick, are pleasantly surprised and curious about this and invite the investigators in to talk. The investigator tell them about why they are interested in Rick.
Deep into the rescue climax, Rick screams.
Ricks nightmare scream gets the attention of the detectives who investigate further to the dismay of Jerry and Summer.
In a room, the detectives enter to see Rick in a coma on a bed alone. Behind them, Beth appears out of nowhere to attack them with something. Jerry and Summer help and the detectives are tied up.
Morty completes the rescue. Rick awakes normal. Morty exits the dream. Everyone is relieved.
Summer: What should we do about them?
Referring to the tied up detectives.
Beth: I have an idea.
The investigators are running around the streets in schizophrenia, having been drugged with Ricks nightmare dream formula.
