Once again I am so sorry about starting a story, but not finishing any others. I just had this idea stuck in my head for the past week and wanted to get it written down. So, I wrote it up on an app on my ipad as my computer is slow as Fu$& at the moment and I don't have the latest verison of word anymore😭.

This is a Danganronpa V3 fanfic because its my favourite cast of characters, but takes place after the game in a what-if/alternate universe scenario. I have not finished the game yet; I only got up to the part where Kokichi kidnaps Kaito in Chapter 5 and haven't gone back and can't because I don't know how my slow ass PC will handle Steam and any game I have on there anymore.

I've been a fan of Danganronpa since the Anime released in 2013 and finally got to the play the games two years ago. I only just really started looking at fanfic stuff recently of DR as I was more into other fandoms at the time I got into DR. So, I decided I wanted to do a fanfic to help with my writing as I haven't written anything in a while. I'm already doing a Fancomic on my DA of another idea I thought of. Since I've read a few fanfics I already know who dies and who the Mastermind is, so I've pretty much spoiled myself but I still don't know how those last two trials entirely play out, so no spoilers for them, please. I'd still like to be relatively spoiler-free until I finish the game😁.

As I said this is a what-if/alternate universe of the ending of V3 where an extra character is alive at the end and the characters are taken in by Future Foundation, so yes, DR1 characters will be appearing and mostly takes place after DR3 Future Arc's Killing Game, but before they wake up the DR2 cast. The story is mainly the survivors trying to understand whats happened after the killing game and get used to life outside now, so there'll be friendship, angst and other stuff too. Also I headcanon Kokichi and Kyoko as siblings, so that'll be a thing in this too.

Anyways, I'll shut now. Hope you enjoy!

Chapter I: We're Finally Free...

"We've finally located them!"

"You mean the kids kidnapped to take part in the 53rd Killing Game?"

"Exactly..."

"Then why are just standing around? Let's rescue those kids before anymore are killed!"

"I have a list of all the ones that have been killed already from seeing the live broadcasts. We may be too late to save them..."

"That doesn't mean we shouldn't try!"

"You're impossible, Makoto..."

The Ultimate Academy For Gifted Juveniles - Exisal Hanger

There was pain.

Intense pain.

It was coming from his left leg.

He opened his eyes, noticing the red metal paint above him that had been broken causing glass and a giant beam to fall on him.

He was inside an Exisal.

Why?

His thought process was slow due to the pain, but soon it came to him.

That's right...

Before he could continue with his plan he was rendered unconscious and who was with him in that warehouse?

Kaito...

The fucking idiot...

A hiss of pain escaped his lips as he sat up, putting his hands on the beam, glaring at it.

His eyes wandered up to the broken viewer, frowning.

Whatever happened it seems something happened to the school after the final trial to reveal the Mastermind.

And he was unconscious for all that!

What happened to Kaito?

Was he executed because he wasn't conscious to actually come out and say no one was killed?

He bit his bottom lip, trying to hide the guilt and ... fear he felt for the astronaut as he tried moving the beam off his leg. A wince making its way onto his face as he did so. The beam was heavy and he was still tired from the after affects of the poison.

He had a bad feeling Kaito had saved the antidote and after he was unconscious gave him the antidote instead of taking it himself.

That ... would've cemented his fate...

It was a slow process, but he was finally able to move the beam off of his leg and cringed at the shape his leg was now in.

A bone was sticking out and blood was dripping out of the wound along with it looking slightly mangled from being crushed for so long.

He swallowed, lifting his arms up and untying his favourite scarf and tying it around his wound, tightly to stop the blood flow.

He looked over to the hatch entrance, trying to get to his feet but it only shot pain up through his leg. He hissed in pain and grabbed the side of the Exisal and breathed out long and hard.

He hadn't felt pain like this before.

Not since he'd felt that poison coursing through him.

That had been slowly killing him.

He didn't know if his leg would be able to heal properly after this...

He shook his head, bent his elbow and sent glass smashing into the ground outside the Exisal. He lifted himself up, slow and steady. Up and over, careful of his injured leg. Before lowering himself to the ground, however he didn't take into account his own height and how high the cockpit of the Exisal was.

Once he dropped down a shot of pain went through his leg causing him to fall over and clutch it as more blood came from the wound.

He tried not to cry.

He tried not to scream.

But it was hard.

His lies were only a facade after all.

They weren't real.

He took in a deep breath; violet eyes scanning his surroundings for anything to help him stand. He saw a long broken pole near the bottom of the Exisal, grabbing it he pushed himself back onto his feet.

He was tired and hurt.

He wanted nothing more than to lay down and take a long nap, but he also wanted to find other survivors and escape.

He also wanted to know what happened during the fifth trial...

He had a feeling Kaito got executed when he didn't have to be...

He headed for the exit of the destroyed Exisal Hanger, using the broken pole as a crutch and dragging his useless leg behind him. His eyes widened at seeing the destroyed school, rubble and dirt everywhere he looked.

How could anyone survive that?

He groaned and collapsed on the ground in the Exisal hanger doorway, breathing hard.

He couldn't drag himself all the way through the school in the shape he was in.

It would be physical torture.

He would have to stay here and hope that someone finds him...

Or just rest for a bit...

The Ultimate Academy For Gifted Juveniles - Front Entrance

In front of the Entrance to the Trial Grounds stood three teenagers staring up at the broken dome-like ceiling.

"I...I can't believe it's finally over..." The detective muttered out, grasping his chest and letting out a soft sigh.

The two beside him nodded, both holding his hands as if to try and comfort each other in the pain of losing their friends in this killing game.

It was finally over.

They could leave now.

Find out what was really out there and start anew.

Even if the memories of what had happened here would haunt them forever...

The sound of running feet made the three turn around, on edge, especially after the events of what they had been through the last few weeks.

"Kyoko, they're over here!" A voice called off in the distance behind them, seeing a man in a black suit with short, messy brown hair and green eyes running towards them with three others following him in similar suits.

A man with short blond hair, glasses and blue eyes and two women; one with brown hair in a ponytail and blue eyes while the other had long silvery purple hair along with it in a ponytail with violet eyes. The women wore suit shirts with black skirts and long socks.

The three teenagers stood and stared at the four strangers, confused.

"W...Who are you?" Shuichi stuttered out, staring at the people before him.

He was unsure of who these strangers were; after everything they went through how could he trust so easily anymore.

'I guess Kokichi was right...' Shuichi thought to himself, frowning.

The shortest man out of all of them stopped before the detective and smiled at them. "My name is Makoto Naegi former Ultimate Lucky Student and these are my associates also ex-classmates from a previous Killing Game. We're from an organisation called Future Foundation that searches for kidnapped kids forced to participate in these 'games' and help them recover from it."

"That is if we ever find any..." The blond muttered out.

"Don't be like that, Byakuya!" The brunette scolded her blond coworker; who kept a scowl on his face.

"That's Aoi Asahina former Ulitmate Swimming Pro and Byakuya Togami former Ultimate Affluent Progeny and over their is Kyoko Kirigiri former Ultimate Detective."

The three widened their eyes at hearing this.

These people were former Ultimates?

Byakuya continued from where Makoto left off not caring of the teenagers shock. "You're Killing Game was broadcast worldwide and we had to keep tabs on it as we also tried to search for your location."

Shuichi realised what that meant.

They had a list of all the students here and marked down whenever one was killed or executed, making their list of survivors to save when they finally found them smaller and smaller.

The four adults seemed to eye the teenagers in a particular way that put a sick feeling in Shuichi's stomach.

The female brunette looked over to the silver-haired woman as did the two men; the three teenagers eyes also caught onto this. "Kyoko, I..I'm sorry we couldn't find this place in time."

Kyoko shook her head, folding her arms across her chest as she gave a small smile to Aoi. "It's fine, Hina. I just need a little time to myself is all." The silverette turned and left the group as the three from Future Foundation watched her go.

She needed time to process this after all.

"Kyoko..."

There was silence among the small group after they wayched Kirigiri leave.

A silence that unnerved Shuichi and he knew it unnerved the two girls beside him too.

Well, maybe not Maki, but probably Himiko.

"Umm..." Shuichi spoke up, a little worried he had ruined a moment. "I don't understand. Did she know someone in our Killing Game?"

Byakuya pushed up his glasses, silent.

Aoi looked to the ground with tears in her eyes.

While Makoto let out a soft sigh and nodded. "Yes, she did. Her younger brother." He stopped, wondering about whether or not to tell them, but decided against it.

It wasn't his place to say anything on this matter, but Kyoko's.

Shuichi's eyes had grown wide and he noticed the same for Himiko while Maki only showed slight surprise.

Someone a part of an organisation that had come to rescue them had a younger sibling in their Killing Game.

How ironic is that?

"D...Do you know who it was?" Himiko finally decided to speak up.

Makoto rubbed the back of his neck, turning his head away with a frown on his face. "Yea, I do. He got along really well with my little sister."

"Can you ... tell us who it was?" Shuichi asked, eyes begging Makoto for an answer to this question.

The brunette closed his mouth and frowned at the detective, wondering why they wanted to know this so badly.

However, Makoto didn't need to answer that question...

Before Shuichi could get an answer to his question he heard a shout and looked over to Asahina; who was looking over in the distance, waving and smiling. "Kyoko! Did you find another survivor!?

The detective, assassin and magician all turned in the direction the Future Foundation members were looking in shock.

"But, that's impossible..." Shuichi uttered out; eyes wide and staring at the two figures as they got closer. "We saw everyone die or at least a dead body of some sort!"

Maki narrowed her eyes at him and shook her head. "No, we didn't. There was one person's body we never saw..."

Shuichi blinked realising what she was saying and went pale.

They never really saw Kokichi's body.

It was all just a bunch of blood splattered on a hydraulic press, but if he really was crushed that's what it would look like.

Right?

Does this mean they sentenced Kaito to die when he didn't really kill Kokichi?

As these thoughts ran through his head the two finally reached the group and as it turned out it was in fact the Supreme Leader; being held up by Kyoko and not looking overly happy about it either.

They could hear him mumble a small, "I can walk on my own Kyo-née..."

As if he was pouting about being helped.

Kyoko looked at the three teenagers and bowed her head at them. "I am terribly sorry for my brother's actions during your Killing Game. He isn't usually like that." She then then turned her attnetion to him with narrowed eyes. "Kokichi, when we get back to Future Foundation I'm going to have a long chat with you."

He tsked and looked away, scowling. "Great. Just what I need ... to be put in the naughty corner."

She let out a sigh and pulled him with her towards the broken dome wall as he made continuous complaints of 'Kyo-nee, is hurting me!' Or 'I'm injured, stop playing tug of war with my arm!'. The three teenagers watched, slightly amused as the woman actually had the upper hand on Kokichi because she was his older sister and has more authority over him and he seemed to not want to make her angry.

Makoto clapped his hands together with a smile on his face. "Alright! Now that we have everyone lets go. We'll need to put you into a special dorm, my sister is also there; she's a year younger than you guys, so hopefully you'll get along. Kokichi will be treated for his wounds while you get settled in."

As the three listened they could only think about what actually happened in the warehouse between Kaito and Kokichi before the fifth trial?

It filled Himiko and Shuichi with relief that someone else was alive, but why did it have to be Kokichi of all people.

Maki however, wanted to know why Kokichi was the one alive and not Kaito.

It was unfair...
