Chapter 1
Heart D Silver, a young girl of seven years of age, sat her bag down on the cot. She then looked around the room as she opened up her bag. It seemed that she would be sharing the room with four other girls. She unpacked her things and started to put them away in the metal locker that was provided next to the cot. After folding the three shirts and three pairs of pants and putting them on the shelves inside the locker, she then placed her underthings in the knapsack and put that at the bottom of the locker. They were provided to her and she had to take good care of them, they were they only things she had for now. She closed it and then went over to the bed to sit down. She needed to think about how she ended up in this situation.
You see Heart wasn't an ordinary little girl, no she wasn't even a native of the world she was currently in. Heart looked out the window and saw a bird fly by. It wasn't any old bird though, She knew what sort of bird it was even though she never thought she would see one in real life. It was a bird that showed up in her favorite games and cartoons. It was a small bird that was brown in color with a cream-colored throat and belly. Its wingtips were also colored the same. It had a pinkish-gray beak and feet and had black markings around its eyes and a small crest of brown and cream feathers above its eyes. Pidgey, a real breathing Pidgey, She was in the Pokemon world.
Now that she had accepted that she had been transmigrated into a fictional world, she had to get ready. She wasn't sure which of the Pokemon worlds she was in, but she knew for sure that she wanted to be a trainer, there was no questioning that. It was the only way she was going to get ahead in this world, and as an American-Asian competition to be the best was in her blood. First she needed to plan, she only had three years until she could set off on her journey. She got up from her cot and then grabbed her new ID card that was made for her when it was discovered that she didn't have one and headed out of the building, she had a library to find.
The ID had her picture on it, she was glad that the people in this world took better pictures then the people in her world (She swore the BMV took the worst photos on purpose). In it her raven black hair was pulled into two pigtails and her deep brown eyes looked at the camera unblinking. She would have to update the thing yearly, but it was something everyone in this world had. It seemed that the ID gave her access to her bank account as well and it kept record of all her information. It was strange to her that kids had access to bank accounts, but it seemed most kids had parents motoring the accounts, but since she was an orphan she could freely access her account. There wasn't anything in it, but she would figure something out.
She slipped it into the pocket of her blue shorts and checked herself in the mirror to make sure she didn't look a mess then left the building. It seems the kids here had a lot of freedom; they were pretty much left to their own devices. There were set meal times and a curfew where the doors to the building were locked, but other than that the caretakers didn't seem too keen to care what the children did. Most didn't spend much time at the place either. She understood why, the building was barely taken care of with vines growing everywhere and there were many cracked windows. The lack of adult supervision was ok in her mind, for this let her do whatever she wanted. Right now she was heading to the city library, she needed to do research to help set up her plans.
After a couple of walking around and asking people for directions she finally made it to a building that had the sign on it that read "Vermilion City Library". Seems like she was in Lt. Surge's city then, after taking a breath to calm herself after finding more proof of where she was, she walked into the building. Inside she was met with a front desk where an older woman with gold-rimmed glasses looked up at the sound of doors opening.
"Hello dear" the woman said as she sat aside the book she was looking through "how can I help you today?
Startled Heart stumbled as she introduced herself "He..hello, I'm Heart."
"I was wondering if I could use a computer to do some research," she asked after she had gathered herself.
"Oh" the Liberian looked amused "and what would someone as young as you be researching my dear?"
"Pokemon Trainers" Heart huffed "everything I can about them so I can be the very best I can be."
The Liberian gave a small laugh and then she got off her chair and came around the desk and started to walk off in a direction. After a couple of minutes she turned back to wave her to follow. Heart did and they later arrived at a room full of computers, they look like really old models compared to what she used to use in her world. She couldn't complain though, they were free to use. The women showed her how to access the web and showed her how to print things as well. Then after setting her up the Liberian left. Once again Heart shook her head about how the adults treated children in this world, just leaving them to their own devices.
After a couple of minutes she had what seemed like a Word Document up and she was surfing the web to figure out how to become a trainer, what she needed to do to become one and basic knowledge about the world she was in. She also looked up how she could make some money, while food and shelter was provided for everything else she would have to figure out everything else on her own. She looked up at the clock, it seemed she had a couple of hours before the dinner time, so she got comfy and started to put her plan together.
A Couple of Months Later
Heart wiped the sweat off her forehead as she placed the last of the berries that she picked into the sack that she then heaved over her shoulder and then carried to her wagon. Well it wasn't her wagon, but the Pokemart had let her borrow it after she had come around selling berries that she had found in the woods around Vermilion City. It was hard work, but she was the daughter of people who came to America to have a better life, she was used to working hard to earn a living. She then drank some water out of the water bottle and then started to pull the wagon back into the city.
She never went super far into the woods and she always made sure to not pick trees clean. She had learned that from the research she had done. Berries could be sold at the Pokemart for a nice sum, and that as long as a few berries were left on the tree the fruit would grow back within a couple of days. It didn't yield much money, but it helped her get resources not provided by the Orphanage. With the funds from what she had sold, she was able to buy a couple more T-shirts and pants, as well as a windbreaker for the colder mornings. She also bought notebooks, pens and a sturdy backpack as well which was slung over her shoulder.
Her research had been very fruitful, she had come to realize that if one wanted to become successful, truly successful instead of just mediocre, one had to be a Pokemon Trainer. Sure there were other jobs, but all the great ones started off with one being a Pokemon Trainer, such as Ace trainers or Pokemon Professors. True that everyone could own a Pokemon when they turned ten years of age, but that didn't make one a Trainer. If you wanted to be a Trainer, you had to take a standardized test before you turned ten to get your license that allowed you to travel and battle in gyms, take part in contests, and make a career out of it.
It was also expensive to be one. Just the test alone cost eight hundred dollars just to take. Sure if she had parents it would be fine, but she didn't, so she had to figure out a way to put together enough funds to take the test. There was also the cost of pokeballs and other supplies that she needed. It would cost thousands of dollars. There was no way she was going to save enough money up for that by the time she was ten. That's why she needed to do really well on the exam, if she could place in the top ten she could be a Sponsored Trainer. The Pokemon League would sponsor kids that had potential to help them alone on their journey. You did have to work for the League if you take it though, but she had no problem with that.
She also looked into Professor Oak, because how could she not be curious. It seemed that he was a big deal in this world, the foremost expert on Pokemon and human relationships just like in the games and cartoons. It also seemed that like all the other professors from the different regions, he also sponsored trainers. She was going to be a League sponsored trainer, she needed to be if she wanted to get anywhere, but she so badly wanted to work with Professor Oak. It would be nice because that would mean she could maybe get in contact with Ash Ketchum, series protagonist and she would have a place to leave her pokemon when she wasn't traveling with them. The idea of leaving one stuck in a pokeball for long periods of time made her queasy now that she saw them living and breathing. To be an Oak sponsored you had to either go to at least two of his Pokecamps and then be chosen by him (which she thought was such an impractical way to choose people to get rare starters), or you had to be number one in the exam. God, she was studying her ass off to try to be number one, but she knew that completion was going to be stiff (It would be embarrassing to lose to children though, when she was full grown).
She let out a sigh as she pulled up in front of the Pokestore. She waved to the store clerk, who waved her to the back. She pulled around and parked her wagon in front of the door. A couple of minutes later the boy opened the door to let her in. He pulled the wagon through the door and started to weigh them on the scale and after typing in numbers into the computer she handed him her ID card and he scanned it. She made about four hundred on this trip, one of her larger hauls because she had found some rare fruit growing in. She nodded her thanks and left the wagon in the corner of the room and picking up her backpack she started to head for the library to study until dinner.
2 Years Later
Heart sat on her cot looking at the envelope in her hands, turning over and over again. It was the letter stating her results from the exam. This was the answer to all her hard work. She took a big breath and opened the letter up.
Dear Miss. Heart D Black,
We are glad to inform you that you have passed the Pokemon Trainer Exam (PTE) and have met all the requirements to be a trainer. You should visit your nearest Pokemon Center to update your ID to reflect your Trainer status. Please be informed that you are not allowed to own pokemon or start your journey until you have reached ten years of age. Doing so would be a violation of Pokemon League Law and will result in your Trainer licenses being pulled.
We would also like to congratulate you on having scored in the top ten in the region and have qualified to become a League Sponsored Trainer. Your starting funds will be deposited into your bank account within two business days. Please read over the guidebook on all rules and responsibilities of a Sponsored trainer.
We would like to congratulate you on having scored the top score in the region. You have been qualified to be sponsored by Professor Oak. Please read the enclosed pamphlet for directions on what needs to be done before your meeting with Professor Oak and pick up starter pokemon. We look forward to your journey and wish you the best of luck in your future battles.
Signed,
Kanto Pokemon League
She laid back in her bed smiling from ear to ear. She had done it, against all odds she had not only become a League Sponsored Trainer, but also Prof. Oak. The first step on her journey was successful. She was going to be a Pokemon Trainer, a real life Trainer. As she laid in her bed, she began to put together all the things she would need to buy and she started to read over the enclosed pamphlet and manual.
