Britain, the year is 970 A.D. King Freighn has just ascended the throne and he is a cruel ruler. He oppressed his people, exploited the peasants and mercilessly conquered other cities. He is hungry for power and does everything to expand his empire. His thirst for blood seemed immeasurable and insatiable. Britain was once sealed by mighty dragons, but a century ago they had hidden in a secret cave and avoided contact with humans. They only came outside to hunt. And that was a problem for the people, because the dragons liked to attack their cattle, which caused enormous losses for the farmers who already had so little to live on. So dragon slayers came from the far north to kill dragons in Britain when someone pounced on a flock of sheep or a cow. But even though the dragons knew the danger, they had to survive. Some clever dragons escaped death by the dragon slayers. Others, however, were not so lucky and so it happened that the dragons were severely decimated and only about 30 of them lived in Britain. The king's wife, Queen Aislinn, tried to act as a mediator between the enemies, but this was short-lived. Although Aislinn, as a Celt, had a good connection with the dragons, she could not prevent the farmers from trying to defend their cattle.
A one-year truce was negotiated and the king's knights obeyed it. The farmers, however, wanted protection for their flocks, but the king announced that they would have to pay for it themselves. But which village could afford a dragon slayer at that time? So the farmers themselves learned how to handle weapons. They had previously observed the dragon slayers quite closely in their fighting style and these observations spread quickly. The farmers prepared themselves to fight dragons themselves, should it be necessary.
Clara lived with her family in a village below King Freighn's castle at the foot of the mountain. She had brown hair that was shoulder length and was slim. She was 1.63 high and had blue eyes. Her father was a farmer and had a great hatred of dragons. Clara grew up with this hatred. She knew that the dragons were gradually robbing them of their livelihood, so she hated the dragons too. Her father had also taught her how to handle weapons. Although he would have preferred a boy who would one day take over his farm. A girl was only good for getting married and having children. In addition, there is a large dowry if she were married. Clara was 14 and already old enough for the wedding and he had already spoken to the butcher about Clara's marriage to his son. Clara wasn't a good housewife. She was quite clumsy and dreamed more than fulfilling her duties. This annoyed her father more and more. He was just about to feed the pigs when a loud clang caught his attention. He groaned in annoyance. His wife died half a year ago and Clara now had to take care of the household on her own, which usually resulted in the kitchen looking like a battlefield. Clara sometimes got help from a neighbor, but she didn't seem to be there today. Clara's father shook his head and went on with his work.
Clara knelt straight to pick up the broken pieces of a plate that she had just dropped from the floor. The clay plate could no longer be saved.
"I really am a hopeless mess.", She said while she disposed of the broken pieces.
"Hey Clara!" Shouted a young man with scarlet hair, who was just walking past her house, "What broke this time?"
"A plate," she sighed.
"You should be calmer. Then that won't happen to you either. You always try to do too many things at the same time," said the boy whose name was John. He was the butcher's son.
At that moment Clara smelled a burnt smell: "Oh no!", She shouted, and hurried back into the house into the kitchen. A kettle hung over the fire and was already beginning to smoke. Clara's attempt to make soup had gone up in smoke again. Literally. She couldn't even throw the brew to the pigs. Clara put out the fire and when the kettle had cooled down, she carried it out to empty it in front of the door. After that, she grabbed her wicker basket and decided to go into the forest to look for berries and mushrooms. Her father would be hungry after work in the evening, she had to put something in front of him.
