If Looks Could Kill

Chapter One

Duo groaned as he woke up it was his birth day and he had school which inevitably meant another day of torture from his class mates, it wasn't that they actually picked on him, it was more friendly banter but Duo sometimes felt that intended to hurt him, grudgingly he got himself up and ready for his first classes.

Sure enough his so called friends where on him in minuets saying how he looked more like a girl every day with his pretty blue-violet eyes, 5.6 height, slim but strong physique, knee length chestnut brown hair with its natural gold and red steaks he always kept in a braid and his beautiful smooth light bronze skin. It made Duo pissed but he covered it up with a big smile and sarcastic back up remark. Unfortunately his friends where in fine form and didn't let up until third period, the teacher just added to his torture by droning on like she was a recording. Duo was starting to fall asleep when his name was called, looking up in confusion he saw the teacher pointing to the door then he realized that he was being called to the office, sighing he got up ignoring the OOO's the other students howled as the door shut behind him.

When he arrived at the office the principal was smiling at him.

"Good morning Mr. Maxwell" he greeted, Duo responded in kind just wanting to find out what he was wanted for so he could leave "I'll get right to it the school is what we called full yet we seem to have got some new students" Duo tried to interrupt but was silenced by a raised hand "I know there are reasons you and a few other students were given separate rooms but I'm afraid I can't help but place these new students with you"

Duo sighed "have you informed your new students that they will be rooming with a gay guy because I don't feel like getting my ass kicked or killed sir" Duo said sarcastically.

The principal smiled "I don't think that will be a problem besides I've made it so only you get one, yes I know it really isn't fair to you but it's other this or scare the hell out of five students instead of one" Duo frowned at that comment "now follow me and I'll show you your new roommate" sighing again Duo followed the principal in to his office and froze, eyes went wide and he suddenly wanted to run.

Sitting, no lounging in front of him was five new students and every one of them looked ready to kill, one with jet black hair that hung loosely to his shoulders, onyx eyes which left a startling contrast because he was warring pure white tight pant a silver no sleeved shirt and a white duster resting just off his shoulders, the others where all direst similar just different colours, the one with long platinum blond hair and ice blue eyes was warring a deep red duster with gold patterns embroidered on it the colour made him look pale but not sickly but as if the sun had never touched him, the third boy Duo saw had the strangest brown hair it covered half his face leaving one shining dark green eye visible as far as Duo was concerned it was creepy and his cloths where a few shads darker then his eye almost black it made look like a vampire, the next looked like some sort of dark angle short blond hair that let his aqua green eyes smile at the world yet his cloths said fuck with me and die, dark dirt red pants his shirt a dim grey his duster a mixture of dark reds blacks and purples again the colours made him look pale but it was almost ethereal, unfortunately the last off the group was the one that freaked Duo the most he was completely in black everything tighter then his counter parts he had his feet up on the principals desk which made Duo look at the footwear, military boots most likely steel caped Duo shuddered. This observation took only a second so he was fully aware he was being stared at.

"Alright Mr. Maxwell let me introduce you this is Zechs Marquise" he gestured to the platinum blond "beside him is Chang Wufei, over on the other side we have Trowa Barton and Quatre Winner and last we have your room mate Heero Yuy" Duo swallowed great the one he really didn't want is the one he got, silently Duo hoped he didn't open his eyes Duo really didn't want to look at death at least not on his birth day.

Fate on the other hand had a sense of hummer and Duo froze again as the most amazing cobalt blue eyes focused on him, he almost jumped out of his skin when the principal put his hand on his shoulder "I'll let you all get acquainted as I have to go visit some other students" Duo's mind screamed for him not to go yet he nodded in acceptance, as the principal left Duo turned to look back at the group who were ignoring him "thank god for small miracles" he thought sighing "why me" he asked no one in particular

"Why not you" Duo looked up at that and found him self-starring at Quatre, a very close Quatre.

Duo took a step back his face getting a slight tint "um hi I'm uh Duo Maxwell nice to meet you" he offered

"Is it, that would be a first" Quatre said smiling, Duo really wished he didn't get up that morning "Trowa why don't we get Duo to show us all are around hmm" Trowa didn't answer just smirked

"I think you're scaring him Quatre" Duo looked over to Zechs who wore a predatory smile.

"Oh someone save me," Duo mentally begged

"Like you can talk Zechs" this time it was Wufei, it seemed they were having fun at his expanse

"Why not everyone else does why not these guys two" Duo muttered fear turning to irritation, Quatre court the words but didn't understand there meaning he turned to Trowa a wearied expression on his face, indicating he should end the banter, Trowa understood the silent message and sat up in his chare.

"Enough leave the boy be," Trowa said in a no argument tone, leaving one Duo Maxwell very confused

"There fine they're not saying anything I don't hear every day from my friends" Duo said sounding tired, and before he knew what was going on he was picked up and dumped into one of the chares then he looked up to see Wufei starring at him looking amused. "What may I ask is so funny" Duo had, had enough first every one of his friends forgot about his birth day, then he ended up with a roommate he didn't want and everyone seemed to be making fun of him, his string was very tight one more push and it was going to brake. But to his Question he received no answer

Trowa looked Duo over closely before he spoke "you need to relax we apologize if we offended you Duo it really wasn't our intent it's just our way of figuring out those around us"

Duo shook his head "it's not your fault I'm just having a very bad day that's all"

"And what could make someone so beautiful have a bad day, to many admires" Zechs offered, Duo actually laughed at that, thinking Zechs had a few screws loose.

"No there isn't even one" taking a deep breath Duo stood "welcome gentle men to hell we have sluts women and men both paid and not we have how's a nice way to put it… oh of course every reject both rich and pore, now I would tell you something nice about this place but unfortunately there isn't anything and just so you know, in case you want to kill something I am not target practice, there are straights and those who go for their own which I am one of. There boys is our school you want a tour get up and follow me if not stay put" Duo gave up on being fake he just couldn't do it he needed to let out some stress and this would help.

The group looked at each other then got up and followed they were shocked at Duo's knowledge of the school and it's students he knew everyone and he didn't seem to like any of them, at least most of them were shocked Heero actually hadn't heard a word of what was been said since he got to the school, to busy listing to his headphones it was only by coincidence that he looked up when his name was called at the office, listing to just follow the groups lead, though his eye's hadn't left Duo since he saw him.

Almost an hour had gone past before Duo's little tour had started and the braided boy couldn't be happier that it was over, especially since he finished it at the cafeteria and he was starving, this left him with a problem though he was told to stay with the new guys but he really didn't know what to do about his friends who were waving him over. Unfortunately he had a conscience so he shook his head at his friends and stayed with the spooky guys.

"Thank you Duo" Quatre whispered giving him a real smile, inadvertently making Duo blush

"Uh you're welcome Quatre"

"Well shall we eat" the group nodded happily at Quatre's question.

Launch seemed to go fine though Duo was still nervous around them he was warming up to them, as far as he could tell so far the clothes where just a kind of deterrent so people didn't bother them but in reality they were all quite nice.

"Duo can I ask you something" Quatre asked, Duo frowned he always thought that was a stupid thing to do ask if you can ask another question but he gave his permission any way, again the blond smiled but it seemed a little sadder then before "um is there something special happening today" Duo gave the boy a sort of dumfounded expression

"What do you mean by special?"

"Well it seems every one's forgotten something you've remembered" if Duo's eyes got any wider they surely would have fallen out.

"Yeah to days my birthday but how'd you" he was interrupted

"Quatre has a talent for knowing when something's wrong that's all Duo" Trowa said his tone saying drop it, Duo shrugged

"I guess I'll have to try to stay happy then hey Quat" it was Quatre's turn to look shocked, "um does he ever take those off" Duo said gesturing to Heero.

The group where brought out of there shock by Duo question and answered in unison "No"

Duo couldn't help it he laughed; yep he liked these guys even if they did scare him to death at first.

After launch Duo helped them get set up in their rooms, which wasn't easy because they insisted on covering every spec of, white with well anything. It was fun though to just relax and not have to wary if he was annoying any one like he did with his so called friends. To say the group was impressed when they saw Duo dorm would be an understatement they pretty much made it their meeting area from then on. Duo didn't mind though then again you really couldn't call the dorms rooms, they were more like apartments minus the kitchen.

"Duo how come your walls are black any way" Zechs had to ask it was getting to him

"This side of the school was in a fire I suppose they thought it cheaper to paint it black then it would to put half a dozen cotes of white" Duo answered with a shrug, Zechs looked disappointed

"What's wrong Zechs jealous" Wufei teased, starting a round of back forth bickering, the others just laughed at them.

"Hey where'd Heero go?" Quatre asked looking around.

"He's probably investigating his room or Duo's" Trowa said calmly, Duo moved so fast they weren't sure they even sore him move.

Duo rushed to his room hoping Heero wasn't in there, he sighed in relief when he wasn't, and Duo then went back out to the others.

"So keep whatever it was safe Duo" Trowa asked, Duo scowled at him

"Very funny I'll have you know that I have some very personal things in their"

"How can you tell it a disaster area in there someone could brake there neck just by entering the door" Heero's voice rang out to them all ending all conversation, but Duo bristled at the insult to his bedroom.

"Well it's not like you need to go in there now is it" Duo shot back

"No it isn't, I'm just glad you don't let the hole place look like that" Heero answered, Duo was getting really pissed now if he were a cat his hair would be standing up in a feral gesture.

"My up most apologies my lord for not keeping my room to a five star quality for you" the group could see this was not going to end well but they did not want to get in the middle, thankfully though Duo walked off to his room slamming the door behind him.

"Fucking jerk who's he think he is talking to me like that, so my room isn't immaculate it's not like I have clothes everywhere or anything it's just in a little disarray, a bloody five minuet job" Duo continued to rant to himself as he sorted though his CD's looking for something to match his mood, he smiled though it was in no way pleasant when he found one, "perfect hope he hates it" Duo thought bitterly. He had learned a long time ago if you mess things up when you're angry you're just gonna make yourself worse when you have to clean it up so Duo opted to just clean when he got mad, singing alone with the heavy beats finding it strangely therapeutic.

In the sitting area Heero found himself getting glared at by everyone, "What" he demanded

"That was uncalled for Heero" Trowa stated

"And it was mean what he do to you ha" Quatre added

"I take it the two of you agree" Heero asked Zech and Wufei, both nodded "I was just telling the truth" he said dead paned

"No you wear out to get him mad, there was no course for you to say that nor was it appropriate to continue it" Zech put forward

"Maxwell's going to be your roommate starting out fighting isn't a very smart idea Yuy" Wufei commented. The whole group was hoping that maybe at least some of what they were saying was getting though.

Heero sighed in frustration "this is why I just listen to music and stay out of everything" he muttered, the group smiled "I'm listening"

Quatre nodded his approval "you have to apologize Heero and nicely"

"Nicely" Heero repeated doubtfully

"Yep and since it's his birthday it better be one hell of an apology?" Quatre added

"Alright already I get it, so one of you want to tell me his name".

Duo was only just able to hear the knocking on his door over his music but he wasn't sure he really wanted answer it, but again he opted to be nice and answered. Although when he saw who was on the other side he just wanted to shut it again, but he didn't.

"Yes" Duo's tone was cold

"Still mad" Heero asked

"What do you think ha"?

"Stupid question"

"Got that right, so what do ya want"?

"I wanted to apologize, it was wrong of me to say that, I have a habit of not checking my mouth before it opens"

Duo shook his head "well you're better at this then my friends so I'll forgive you but on one condition"

"And that is" Heero asked sceptically

"You have to forgive me to ok" Heero looked confused by that so Duo elaborated "let's say you didn't do anything that bad hell if my rooms the only thing you and your friends complain about when around me then it's an improvement from my last roommate" Heero took all this in before he spoke again.

"Well if all your music is like what you where playing I think we'll get along fine Duo"

"You serious you liked that"

"Yes"

Duo couldn't help it he smiled "Cool then I think we should start again, I'm Duo Maxwell" Duo put out his hand

"Heero Yuy" he offered, taking Duo hand shaking it gently "so coming out with us"

"Out" Duo repeated looking lost thankfully though Quatre came to his rescue

"Come out with us Duo where going to a band house in the city, though we might need to do you up first"

"What's wrong with my clothes" Duo said looking down at his jeans and t-shirt, Quatre laughed

Duo thought about the offer while Quatre calmed down and found nothing wrong with it, it wasn't as if he was doing anything else that night any way but the doing up bit was un-nerving yet he agreed.

By 7oclock Duo was ready to run, Quatre had put him in his tightest black jeans, one of Zechs deep red silk button down shirts and Duo's own combat boots.

"I look ridiculous," he complained

"No you don't you look great Duo but are you going to let me put some make up on you" Quatre asked innocently

"Make up" Duo almost fell over "no way" Quatre's shoulders slumped

"Ok now make up wait hear I'll go get the others" Duo sighed in relief, Quatre was scary when he got excited at least that's the impression Duo received, the blond was more energetic then he was.

"All right Quatre let's see your master peace" Trowa said humour in his voice; Duo was sitting on the couch doing his best to hide his face, as he was very red.

"There he is what ya think, he wouldn't let me do much not even his hair so this is what we got" the group looked Duo over with a critical eye before speaking.

"Well Winner it seems you did it again very nice indeed" Wufei said looking at him seriously, Quatre squealed in delight, as the others put in their own approval.

"Well it seems Quatre you have created another master peace and on that note shall we go" Heero seemed a little impatient to leave but they really didn't pay all that much attention to it.

"This is what you drive," Duo asked staring at the cars in front of him.

"Yep you like"

"Oh I like all right Quat"

"Well get in Duo Heero's not gonna wait forever ya know" Zech's laughed Duo blinked a couple times before he headed over to a dark blue corvette with black and silver angle wings panted on the hood.

"Duo get in and stop drooling" Heero's voice ripped Duo out of his revere

"Sorry" he muttered getting in.

"We'll be there very soon, you might want to hold on" Duo was about to ask why but it came out as a yelp instead as Heero took off.

When they finally stopped Duo's legs felt like jelly and his hands where saw from clutching his seat yet he was smiling like a Cheshire cat "wow I'm defiantly riding with you from now on" Duo was not expecting the shocked look he received from the messy haired boy "what" he asked

"You actually liked that"

"Hell yeah"

"Well you would be the first, come let's go inside"

After Duo got his legs back in working order the group went inside, it seemed that they all liked trying to break the sound barrier. Once inside a pretty longhaired blond with strange eyebrows greeted them with a half smile

"Hi haven't seen you guys in a while why don't you come with me and" she was interrupted

"Dorothy we need some help right now there's a huge problem" the girl, Dorothy sighed in annoyance

"Ok hold on a minuet" she called "sorry got to go speak to ya later" then she left them.

"Um guys who was that" Duo asked again very lost

"Her names Dorothy Catalonia, she's the person who runs this place and she also went out with Quatre before he got with Trowa but she's still friends with us all" Zechs explained

"It seems she's in trouble, why don't we see what's up" Wufei suggested

"Yeah we can introduce Duo to everyone that way" Quatre added enthusiastically looking at Heero for approval

"Sure why not that is why we're here so early isn't it" Heero answered dryly, walking in the direction Dorothy went.

Wufei scowled at him some times he really felt like hitting Heero upside the head for his arrogances, but new better then to touch the dark eyed boy.

"Hey Dorothy what's the problem" Zechs asked casually

"The band I had set up for tonight just cancelled so now I've got a full house tonight but no band… unless" She was smiling at them like a devil "Heero you wouldn't want to oh I don't know fill in for me would ya"

"No Dorothy we're hosts tonight"

"Then be a good host and give our guest a show of his life"

"No Dorothy"

"Please everyone like's you guys and I really need the help, I'll do anything come on" she begged

"Ask them" Heero said annoyed with the girls' insistence, unfortunately the group agreed leaving Heero wanting to deck every one of them.

"Yes. Thanks so much and don't worry about your friend I'll take good care of him"

"That's what I'm worried about" Heero said scowling at her, then walking away, the group followed but Duo stayed with Dorothy.

"So how long you known the guys" Dorothy asked causally

"Actually I only met them today" Duo answered nervously

"Oh, you like um"

"There cool I mean there better then my normal friends who treat me like shit so" Duo trailed off staring at the ground

"Well I can tell you this they better not do it anymore" Dorothy stated seriously

"Why not" Duo asked a slight nervous tinge to his voice

"You're part of the gang now, plus I think Heero may have taken a liking to you and he is extremely protective so if I were you, I'd tell them to keep their mouths shut besides they wouldn't want us showing up on their doorstep we can get pretty rough if people piss us off"

"I never expected any of this" Duo said surprised Dorothy just shrugged dismissively.

By the end of the night Duo was excitable he had no idea how talented his new friends where and spent almost an hour complementing them on their performance. Unfortunately Duo's enthusiasm died down on the way back to the school as he started feeling the adrenalin from the night ware off but his new friends where still running on full, which put Duo at a great disadvantage. Another bad thing happened when they arrived back at the dorms a few of Duo's friends where waiting for him and they didn't look happy.

"Hi guys what are you doing here" Duo asked excitement of the night still in dancing in his veins

"Well pig tail we came to see you but it seems you where a bit busy with these guys,"

"Yeah we're not stupid Duo it would be nice if you gave us some notification before you change groups like this instead of making us look like fools at launch today and tonight we had a party set for your birthday and wouldn't you know the birthday boy was missing"

Duo felt terrible he'd been badmouthing his friends in his head all day for his birthday and they really hadn't forgotten.

"I'm really sorry you guys, I didn't know and I'm not changing groups just making more friends that's all"

"Do you know the trouble we went through for you? We got Treize to go to the party for you"

"I don't know what to say Mark I'm really sorry".

While Duo played apology Heero and the others stayed behind him glaring daggers at the two boys, and finally after ten minutes of them making Duo feel like shit the group had enough.

"I think your point is quite pronounced you can go back to your dorms now and speak to Duo in the morning ok" Quatre interrupted making the two focus their attention on him.

Then the boys mumbled a whatever, bye and walked off, Duo didn't say anything just went to bed ignoring the world, while the others hung around in the living room.

"Do you think we did the right thing interfering" Quatre inquired

"Of course those guys had no right to treat him like that, he didn't know it'd be a different matter if he did" Wufei answered strongly

"Quatre, Fei stop it he's depressed enough without us debating out here," Trowa said sadly

"Trowa's got a point we should leave this one alone," Zechs stated

"Like hell" everyone looked at Heero in shock "he hasn't done anything wrong and what I understand about these so called friends of his enemies would be nicer, no let's have some fun with these guys"

"Heero you do realize this could turn Duo's world into a living night mare I mean these are Duo's friends and it's not really fare on him to do this without his consent" Quatre explained, expressing his worries for their new friend

"Well what do you suggest because they are not getting away with this?"

"We suggest you go to bed and not even think about it maybe if they do something that warrant's punishment then we'll do something but not yet where not thugs Heero" Zechs told him in an no-argument tone, which Heero didn't like but gave in to at least he did when they all pointed down the hall to his room and then left, leaving the dorm in complete silence.

The next day went pretty normal that is for Duo, Heero was gone before he even woke up, the others of the group said hello but nothing more it was a little confusing, at first until Duo saw his normal friends and there pure disapproval of the others. So Duo just smiled at them before he went to his friends and as normal they exchanged borderline cruel banter. The classes went on similar ways except Heero had seemed to up and vanish no matter how hard Duo looked for him he was just not anywhere.
