Hello my friends.
First off, I must apologize for failing to update my stories in a timely manner. I offer no excuses, impart because I only have one halfway decent one. Anywhom, this particular story is something that I started long before I got into Fanfictions, under the ambitious and naive belief that I could send the idea to Nintendo in the hopes of publishing it in a way that could be monetarily beneficial. Now obviously that was a vain hope, so I turned to the world of Fanfic. This particular story is based of the Hyrule Warriors Series of games, though it does take inspiration from other members of the Legend Of Zelda francise
On the subject of which. Disclaimer: Legend of Zelda is property of Nintendo. I only own this story and my OCs.
And with that let our story begin.
Chapter 1: The Fight Begins
The land of Hyrule has faced many threats. Hoards of monsters and demons, and great beast beyond imagination. The worst of these was the vile being called Ganondorf, known as the King of demons and Emperor of the dark realm. The scourge of Hyrule, he ravaged it for generations, with bitter suffering, as his wars, manipulations, and hunger for power left many a victim in his wake. But one day he would meet his undoing, the Hero of Green, Link. Link defeated the demon king, but before he was gone, Ganondorf made his last threat, promising that a greater evil would come to destroy Hyrule.
Link was championed as a hero, along with the Hyrule's crown princess, and one that had become his good friend, Zelda. Hyrule recovered and rebuilt from the destruction that Ganondorf had lain upon it, and the people waited for his threat to come true. Seven years went by, however, and overtime the people forgot what the dark emperor had said; for now, finally, it seemed they would have peace.
But Zelda did not forget, and six years after Ganondorf's defeat, she began to have visions of the evil he had foretold. One night, her vision was so vivid that she awoke with shrieking start. Her adviser and guard, Impa, heard her, and saw the terrified expression on the princess's face.
"Your highness," asked Impa, concerned about the princess's appearance, "are you alright?"
"I wish I was Impa," replied the princess, still clearly shaken. "But I fear that the great evil, once proclaimed by Ganondorf, is closer at hand than we all once thought."
"Then you have had another vision," said Impa, now very concerned.
"I have," replied Zelda, "and it was clearer than any I've had before. A great army of monsters and beast, more powerful then anything we have seen before, lead by a dark sorceress, with dragon and an evil spirit by her side."
"And you believe they will attack soon?"
"I do, and when they do, they will bring suffering and death far greater than anything Hyrule has ever known."
Zelda shuttered as she said these last words. She had grown up during the time of Ganondorf's constant bombardment, and she had lost her parents, the King and Queen of Hyrule, to his armada. Her people had finally found peace, but she feared it would soon be lost.
As she reflect on this distinct possibility, she felt Impa's hand rest upon her shoulder. As the princess turned to see her trusted guard's face, she could the serious and stoic look in Impa's eyes.
"If what you have seen is true, princess," she said, "know that we will be ready to fight this evil, whenever it comes."
"I hope you are right Impa," replied Zelda, "for all our sakes."
Outside in the training yard, the soldiers and young recruit were running drills; working on their archery and swordsman skills. But one of the officers was having trouble with a particular recruit.
"No, no, no, soldier. If you were to perform as poorly as this on the battlefield, you'd be dead in a matter of seconds."
The officer in question was Sergeant Casimir Knight, and the recruit he took issue with was Alanee, a young Gerudo who had recently enlisted in the Hyrulian army.
"In my defense, sir," the young recruit shot back, "this armor is heavy and really awkward. A real warrior wouldn't need to hide behind it. They could dodge any attack, and easily hit back at their opponent."
Knight didn't answer her immediately. Instead, he picked up a bow and arrow, and took a shot at a practice dummy across the yard, impaling it at the chest level.
"You'd rather end up like that, recruit," he snapped.
"Dummies can't dodge," protested Alanee.
"What's going on hear," called a voice.
They both turn, and there was the legend himself, Link.
"Captain," replied Knight, "I was merely attempting to instruct this young recruit on the importance of armor."
"Not that a grouchy old grunt makes for a good instructor," Alanee muttered under her breath.
"For you're information, young lady, I may be old, but my hearing is as acute as ever, and I've seen far more combat than you could ever dream of. Furthermore, my I remind you of how fortunate you were to have been accepted into the army in the first place, given you're people's past alignments."
Alanee did not much care for that remark, but he wasn't wrong. For many generations, the Gerudo had been a race of desert dwelling thieves and marauders. Furthermore, Gerudo males were rare, only one was born, often over the course of a hundred years, and for many generations, that male was to be their king. Ganondorf had been the last Gerudo king, and for many years, the Gerudo had followed him, until a rebellion, lead by Ganondorf's former second in command, Nabooru, resulted in them breaking ties with their villainous leader. Nowadays, the Gerudo were a peaceful race, but while relationships had improved, there were still subjects on which they did not see eye to eye with the Hylians.
Link, clearly sensing the tension between the old battle-scared drillmaster and the feisty young Gerudo, decided to step in.
"Why don't you go help some of the other recruits, Knight? I'll take care of her."
"With pleasure, Captain," grunted the sergeant.
As soon as he knew Knight was out off earshot, Link turned his attention to the young recruit.
"Don't mind him kid. His been like that since I was a recruit, but he's not a bad teacher."
"O really, and wild boars can fly," retorted Alanee, in a rather snippy tone.
Link couldn't help chuckling at this. He remembered years ago when he had been a recruit in the training yard, a young wide eyed kid ready to start his quest. Now he was a young adult in his mid twenties. He'd been through a lot, from his sister being taken by a giant bird, to meeting and befriending Hyrule's wise young princess, to ending the evil terror of Ganondorf. These days he was a hero, heralded for his great acts of courage, but now, there seemed little need for heroism.
To Link, however, it didn't matter. Hyrule, his home, for which he had fought for many years, was finally free, finally at peace. His tenure as a Hyrulian military captain might not have nearly as much flash and excitement as his days fight monsters, but he didn't mind. He could still sharpen his skills on the training course, and he enjoyed watching the up and coming recruits, as they trained hard to become great soldiers, wanting to help defend Hyrule from whatever should come its way.
Turning back to Alanee, he picked up two training swords, and tossed one to her.
"Why don't we see what you can do kid," he told her.
"Are you serious, sir" asked Alanee, quit surprised the master swordsman would spar with her.
"Why not, unless your afraid," he teased.
"I am not!"
"Well then, lets see what you got."
Taking his shield of his back mount, Link took ready position, waiting to see what the young Gerudo would do.
Alanee charged forward, rushing her blade toward Link's head. Link easily blocked the attack, and then swung his blade twice, one at her shoulder, and then at her chest. Alanee dodge both attacks, but the second came rather close to her. Then Link struck again, aiming at her stomach, and she barely got out of the way. Still, she was young, and as a Gerudo, she was very athletic and strong. So once again, she rushed Link, but this time, she aimed for his shoulder.
Unfortunately for her, Link was expecting this. He dodged her strike, and Alanee fell forward, her momentum taking her of balance, as Link landed a direct kick in her back, knocking her over. Alanee turned around as fast as she could, but already Link's blade was at her neck.
"Always stay on your feet kid." he told her.
"Very funny," snapped Alanee, hitting his blade over, and angrily jabbing hers into the ground.
"You've got some skill kid," said Link, encouragingly, "you just need more experience."
"What I need is to get out of this stupid armor," grunted Alanee. "It makes me way to slow."
"You'll get use too it," he replied.
"Captain!" shouted one of the soldiers.
"What is it," ask Link.
"There's a hoard of monsters headed two one of the nearby villages. We've been ordered to intercept them."
"Hoard of monsters," puzzled Link.
"Yes sir."
"Alright, gather the men and move out." Then turning to Alanee,"We'll pick this up later. In the meantime, why don't you practice your skills on the obstacle course."
"Yeah sure, whatever," she muttered.
"Well, guess that's all I can ask for," sighed Link.
Running to his trusty stead, he quickly mounted her, and grabbed her reins.
"Lets go Epona, Yah."
Epona reared up, and of she went, carrying Link to the battlefield as she had so many years ago.
So just one small note. Alanee and Knight are both Ocs, Though Knight's surname was vaugly inspired by, of all things, Sergent Breaker Night from Mega Man Fully Charged. Yeah, I watched It.
Anywhom, I'm hoping to have one of my other stories up by tommorow, and more than likely it will be The Remnants and the Hope, as its the one I have most complete.
Ciao For now.
