Prologue
"Your orders are to go to Jump City, there you could find Titans Tower. You are to report back to me in two weeks, is that understood, Altair?" father ordered me to do his dirty work.
Father always preferred Raven over me, for I am the oldest. She was the child prodigy, always making her bed with that dark magic. I had to learn things the hard way, with Father breathing down my neck. I do not understand the need to find the evil witch, she betrayed the family name by running around with Dick Grayson and his band of do-gooders.
"Yes Father." I sighed at the thought of Father's love for my disappointment of a sister.
Father glanced away, his bottom set of eyes filled with sadness. His white hair was greasy to the touch, making it more of a glossy gray. His finger nails were inches longer than he used to keep them when I was a child. The horns that sprouted from his head looked damp, like wet wood. His under bite was growing severely and his sharp and pointed teeth were rotting a brown and yellow. Raven did this to him, she made Father miserable. And she will pay.
"I will set out in the morning, when I am well rested." I bowed towards Father, as parallel to the ground as possible.
When I arose from the ground, I was faced with the wall about five feet away. On the wall was a large mural of Raven, Father, and I. Although I was just as close as the painter as Raven and Father, they were still the focus. I wasn't blurred, and I smiled as big as I could to try to outshine Raven. Yet, those two were the ones who were actually happy, you could see the light erecting from their skin, meanwhile I was dull, and showed sadness. Underneath the portrait was a clean mirror with a white embroidery sun surrounding the spherical glass.
I saw my face as it grew envious and filled with rage. My pink skin appeared as if it were firing up. The blood flowing from my neck into my eyes, as it turned into a shade of black and my irises a white. My fangs were growing rapidly as I imagined them going into Raven's skin. My third eye was glowing a deep purple. I was more monster than human when Raven was more of human than monster. I would hope that wasn't the reason why Father loved more. She reminded him of Mother more than I did. But, I know that I am prettier than she is. My lips are more full, my skin warmer, and I grew into my body. Not only that but I have eyebrows, something my sister fails to grow. My ears were cute, even though they were a bit pointy. The most attractive thing about myself is my intense power.
I turned around, tired of looking at my own disappointment. The room was lined with books of all colors. Gold lettering was placed on the back of the bindings. A large green book that sat on the second shelf near the door was a familiar one. Father would make me study that book for months, when I was just eight years of age, which is the reason for a current location: not high off the ground so I could reach, and close to the door.
The sun was already rising when I could finally escape the haunting miniature library. It was full of my worst memories, hearing my mother slamming the door on her way out after an argument with Father whom I never saw again, watching my sister leave without saying so much as a word to the family, and now I sit with the will to kill my mother and sister, which is what I intended to do.
Chapter 1
The smell of gasoline filled my nose as I walked passed the sign which said, "WELCOME TO JUMP CITY: POPULATION 74". The 4 was scratched out, so much so, you could see the silver metal instead of the reflective lettering that was written over a green background. A dusty old pick up truck pulled to a halt as I was admiring the sign that stood in a patch of grass on the side of a one way street that had little to no cars. An overweight, middle aged man stepped down with a worried expression on his face. He shut the door to the truck and started towards me, his boots stamping into the dirt on the ground in a constant beat.
"Are you lost, little miss?" the man took a sip of something canned, "Do you need a ride?"
He wasn't in the slightest bit concerned on my appearance as they would be New York. I declined, wanting to see the town some and get used to the man made feel of Earth. I looked down the hill on which the sign stood on, there was a basic layout. the suburbs. A few miles out, there was a huge building. One shaped like a "T". It was Titan's Tower. It was in the center of a circular lake, I could see rocks bobbing around, it was too dangerous to use a motorboat, and too far to swim. I had to get to the lake before I could make a logical decision. I pulled my white cloak over my head, and started my adventure through the boring, do-good town of Jump City.
A small, round man with a blue top hat and a cane slammed it into the concrete. A button on his chest said the words "MAYOR". His outfit was colored with red, white, and blue with the exception of his cane. He was highly animated, with the way he spoke and walked. He hummed as he walked towards me since we were going in opposite ways. The man abruptly stopped when we were face to face, cutting in front of my strides. He slammed is cane yet again on the concrete sidewalk.
"Welcome to Jump City, newcomer!" he offered his hand but I slapped it away, "Wow. You are kind of strong their aren't you? We could use someone like you against the HIVE! What's your name, newcomer? I am the mayor of this here town, and I want to make a good impression! Would you like if I showed you around?"
"I am Altair, daughter of Trigon birthed from the deep pits of Hell." I sharpened my purple eyes at the man, who seemed a uncomfortable to be in my presence, "I only want to go there." I pointed at the Titans Tower.
"Sorry, but I can not take you there without permission from the all knowing and powerful Robin! But, I can take you to Central Park, or to one of our superhero museums!" the mayor smiled, offered his hand, and quickly removed it.
The feeling of annoyance pushed the blood up my neck towards my eyes, making them black and the irises white, like I was in the small library and facing the mural. I stated my need yet again, and this time the mayor complied. He took a cell phone out of his jacket pocket and dialed three numbers 778. Even though the phone wasn't on speaker, I could hear it dialing. I heard Dick's voice answer with a simple hello.
"This lovely young lady, would like to come up to the tower. I was wondering if I could have your permission to send her?" the mayor said smiling.
"Of course! Any friend of the mayor's is a friend of mine!" Robin (Dick) said more cheerfully than the mayor.
I witnessed the mayor's knees shake and he whined with fear, "You are no hero."
