Maiko Week 2021

#1 Closure

"Leave us alone," Azula said dismissively to the guards. She waved them off and then turned to Mai.

"The thing I don't understand is why, why would you do it? You know the consequences," She said disdainfully, her expression one of barely controlled rage.

Mai replied, keeping her voice cool and lethal, "I guess you just don't know people as well as you think you do. You miscalculated. I love Zuko more than I fear you."

"No, you miscalculated, you should've feared me more!" Azula yelled. She assumed a firebending stance. Mai readied one of her knives, her heart beating faster and faster. Azula raised her hand to attack but was immediately subdued by Ty Lee, whom both had forgotten, was there.

Azula fell with a gasp of shock and unmistakably, fear.

Ty Lee ran to Mai, whose eyes were wide and was rooted to the spot with shock."Come on, we've gotta get out of here!" But they never go the chance. Guards swarmed them. Two of them helped Azula to her feet. "You're both fools," she seethed. "Put them somewhere I'll never have to see their faces again, and let them rot!"

"Was it worth it?" Ty Lee asked. They were sitting in the Capital City Prison, in a cell, just a day before Sozin's Comet (they had been counting).

"What was worth it?" Mai asked.

"You know, betraying Azula for Zuko?"

Mai took a deep breath, deciding to answer without any bite or sarcasm in her voice.

"Yes, it was worth it. It felt right, you know, and….I don't know, I felt like I'd gotten justice I guess," Mai said.

"You mean closure? For all that happened, going to save Zuko, feeling free from Azula?" Ty Lee asked. Mai just nodded.

"I'm tired Ty, I think I'll go to bed," Mai said. She curled up on the firm ground and her eyes closed immediately. Her dreams were of Zuko and they were bittersweet."Be safe," She whispered. All was quiet for the rest of the night.
