HI! I know it's been a long time since I published a shamy fic but I'm back, for now at least. I'm posting early for fluff crawlspace lest I forget to post this on that day.
I'm a bit rusty with writing so don't expect much and not beta'd but it's cute, I used a dialogue prompt from tumblr. Enjoy and leave me a review!
"Falling in love with you wasn't a part of my life plan, but I don't regret that I did."
Amy stirred awake at the hushed conversations beside her. She could barely manage to open her eyes and greet her friends that she let out a groan of discomfort, still feeling the fatigue from childbirth.
"Now look at what you did," Sheldon hissed.
Amy felt his hand rest on her shoulder just as her eyes adjusted to the brightness of the room. She smiled at her husband before her gaze shifted to her friends, "you stayed?"
Penny came with them to the hospital since Sheldon was worried he would not be able to brave through the delivery of his son and it was a good thing she did because he was already pale before Amy could deliver the baby.
She stepped forward and sat on the edge of the bed. Amy could feel the energy radiating from her as she bounced lightly on the mattress, "I told Leonard to call the sitter so they can come visit you. I wanna meet your kid!"
Bernadette leaned closer to give her a hug, "congratulations, how are you feeling?"
"Tired and in pain," Amy paused, "but good kind of pain I guess." She looked at Sheldon and asked, "can you bring him here, please?"
Sheldon smiled and leaned down to press a kiss on her forehead, "of course."
Amy watched as he crossed the room and lifted their baby from his crib, keeping him close to his chest. It took her breath away and a big smile bloomed on her face. She shared a look with Penny and Bernadette, their faces mirroring her own.
Her pregnancy was risky, it was one of the first things that the doctor told them after they confirmed that she was pregnant. It made Sheldon even more protective and cautious than he usually was up to the point that Amy had asked him to stay with Leonard for a few days and Penny to keep her company. She was glad to go through it but she wouldn't outright say it was a great experience, after all nobody would probably enjoy it when their bladder was being used as a cushion.
She tried to keep hold of her independence at work and argued constantly with Sheldon that she was fine. His intentions were good, she knew, but it was the last thing that kept her from complaining about the pain and aches she was feeling late into her pregnancy. In the end, they managed to stay civil and remember what was important, to keep the baby safe and make sure both she and the baby were healthy.
Sheldon placed the kid in her arms before letting himself occupy the space behind her. His arm wrapped around her shoulder.
"So, are you going to teach your son to call you 'Father'?" Penny joked as she looked at the little family.
Amy and Bernadette chuckled but Penny looked smug at the glare she received from Sheldon.
"I'll have you know that there is nothing wrong with that, it teaches children to see their parents as authority figures."
Amy knew he was trying to be serious but to her he sounded like a petulant child. She looked at him and stifled a laugh, "we are not teaching our kid to call you 'Father', this isn't Star Wars, Sheldon."
Sheldon pouted at her. "Alright, fine," he sighed.
A knock came at the door before Leonard's head poked in, "are we just in time?"
Sheldon rolled his eyes but nodded his head, "if you tell Howard to be quiet I might actually let him stay."
The guys filed in, Howard's face already scowled, "here I thought the birth of your son would soften you up."
"Stop arguing like an old married couple," Bernadette commented.
Raj came in last with a huge stuffed monkey in his arms, "I know it's too big but it looks so adorable," he grinned and sat it down on one of the vacant chairs.
They offered their congratulations to Sheldon and Amy before settling down. The room was crowded but Amy wouldn't complain if it meant having her family there. She pressed a kiss on her son's forehead before nodding to Sheldon.
"Would you like to meet him?" Sheldon asked the group.
A chorus of excited remarks filled the room as they edged closer to the bed but not close enough to overwhelm the baby.
Amy looked up and turned to present her son to their friends, "everyone, this is Albert Leonard Cooper."
Penny cooed and leaned her head on Leonard's shoulder while the latter looked at his best friend in shock and amazement.
"Did you just name your kid after me?" The new parents nodded at him but Sheldon opened his mouth and Leonard was fast enough to raise his hand, "oh come on! Let me have my moment here."
Albert was passed around their friends and it was clear that he loved the attention; he was calm as his wide eyes stared back at them.
Amy leaned against Sheldon while they watched their friends fuss over their child. She took advantage of that brief moment to close her eyes and get some more rest. She must have drifted off because the next thing she knew, her son's cries were loud next to her ears.
She sat up and reached out for Albert, rocking him gently in her arms. Her friends bid them goodbye and their family was left alone.
"He's so precious, Sheldon."
Sheldon reached over her shoulder to caress their son's head, "I always thought that my fears of being a father would make me want to keep my distance but now," he paused and nuzzled his nose on top of Amy's head. "It's a good kind of scared, I want to keep him close to me at all times. But we'll help each other, right?"
Amy didn't know whether it was a rhetorical question or not but she answered anyway, "of course we will. We'd give our best for our baby, Sheldon."
"Good," he mumbled. "Falling in love with you wasn't a part of my life plan, but I don't regret that I did."
He said it so softly that Amy stared at him in wonder; everyone knew Sheldon had come a long way when it came to his relationship with her but even after all these years, it never stopped her from being surprised.
"I love you," she replied quietly and she tilted her head to accept the kiss, her left hand caressing his jaw.
She looked down at the bundle in her arms, a tear rolled down her cheek as she catalogued Albert's features, "hey there little guy," she whispered.
They reveled in the silence of the room since it might be the last of peace and quiet they would get before bringing him home.
"I never thought I could love a person this small so easily," Sheldon said timidly. "Thank you, Amy."
Amy didn't reply but shuffled closer to him, sighing at the warmth he provided.
"I know you don't like me saying it but I hope he grows up to be like you. Someone who loves deeply for the people he cares about. You don't see it but that's you, Sheldon. I'm so glad we're building a family together."
Sheldon propped his chin on her head with a faint smile on his lips, "you taught me how to be comfortable loving people without hurting them, so it's safe to argue that he's better growing up like you."
Amy chuckled, "he'll get the best of both of us…and we'll love him for all his flaws along the way."
Albert whimpered in his mother's arms and Amy started hushing him quietly, "sing to him?
Sheldon gladly took the baby from her embrace and sang the song he knew so well.
I seriously miss writing for this pairing. Wishing you all well! (advance) Happy Fluff Crawlspace!
