Kiss Day
Hello again!
It's Kiss Day in Japan and so I bring you a new one-shot in my self-imposed quest to write 50 TanKana kisses inspired byt Kashimalin's prompt list.

Tanjiro was restless.
Not the 'I have an exam today' type of restless but the 'I wonder if something will happen' type of restless; the type that makes you wonder what will happen, has your brain think up a hundred and one scenarios and then dismiss them all before thinking of another hundred and one.
Now you may ask 'why is Tanjiro feeling restless?' and the answer is quite simple; today is Kiss Day.
Like the name implies, it is a day when people kiss each other.
Now, Tanjiro has already received kisses on the cheek from his family but there was one kiss that he was expecting in particular; to be more exact, he was wondering if he would get a kiss from a certain person on this day.
There was no reason why he wouldn't, if anything, it was almost guaranteed but 'almost guaranteed' is not the same as 'definitely guaranteed.'
"You're making that face again."
The red haired teen's thoughts were interrupted when he heard Genya's voice.
"Eh, sorry, what?"
"You're making that 'I'm thinking too hard about something' face." Genya repeated before grinning. "And I can guess what you're thinking about."
Tanjiro could only chuckle sheepishly, a blush quickly forming on his face.
"Well… it is the day so…"
"I know, I know; I don't get why you're so nervous, though, it's not like it would be the first time Kanao and you kiss, is it?"
"Well… yeah, that's true."
That part was true, since they started dating, Tanjiro and Kanao have kissed several times (Tanjiro privately thought that he would like to increase that number more) but, the reason for his nervousness, is that Kanao hasn't been the one to initiate a kiss so far.
Most often, their kisses happen after they finish a date; Tanjiro would walk her home and hold her hand before she leaves to go inside, moving a hand to her cheek before asking 'is it okay?' to which she would nod bashfully and close her eyes.
He loves kissing her and he won't pressure her if she doesn't want to be the one to ask but it would be a lie if he said there wasn't a part of him that wants to hear her be the one saying it.
Maybe it was just him being a bit selfish but it's not like he was asking for much, right?
"You're making that face again." Genya called out once more.
"Ah… sorry."
"I don't mind, just be careful that the teacher doesn't catch you focusing on something other the class."
"Right… we have math with your brother in our next class."
"Yeah… actually, now that I think about it, this might be one of the few days you might actually get away with it if you were to daydream in class."
"What do you mean?" Tanjiro asked with a curious frown.
"Well…" His face suddenly turned bright red and he covered it with one hand. "Let's just say that I know how affectionate Kanae-sensei can be with my brother and considering the day it is..."
"Ah."
"I wouldn't bet on you getting away with it, though."
"I won't try; being thrown out the window like I'm in some game once was more than enough for me." Tanjiro assured him with a chuckle.
The day went by without anything happening.
And that was said literally; Tanjiro did meet with Kanao for lunch and a bit after school before they had to leave but she didn't kiss him.
To be fair, all their friends were also hanging out with them at the time so Tanjiro understood why she wouldn't want to kiss him in front of everybody, even he would get embarrassed in that situation, but a part of him couldn't help but feel disappointed.
'Well, it's not like we've never kissed or will never kiss each other from now on.' He thought with a sigh as he rested in his room.
Knock knock
"Come in." He called out.
"Onii-chan, Kanao-chan is here." Nezuko said, peeking her head inside the room.
"Eh, she is?"
"Yes, she asked if you could come out; she can't stay for long but wanted to talk with you."
Tanjiro frowned, thinking what she could want to talk about, but quickly nodded to his sister before getting up.

Like Nezuko had said, Kanao was waiting at the entrance of the Kamado home.
"Hello, sorry for coming so late." She said when Tanjiro walked out.
"It's no problem; is something wrong?"
"Ah… well…" Kanao trailed off, glancing anywhere but in Tanjiro's direction.
RING!
The sound startled both.
"Ah, sorry, it's my cellphone." Kanao apologized as she took it out and answered the call. "Yes, Shinobu-nee-san? …yes, sorry; I know it's late… yes, I'll be on my way back; see you later." With that, she ended the call.
"Something wrong?"
"Ah, no, Shinobu-nee-san was worried because I left the house so late and wanted me to come back."
"I'll walk you home." Tanjiro said with a smile. "You can tell me what's worrying you while we walk."
Kanao smiled back and nodded.

"It's… well… do you know what day it is?" Kanao asked as they walked.
"…do you mean the date or what this day is called?" Tanjiro asked in turn.
"…the latter." She confessed with a blush.
"It's Kiss Day." He said, scratching his cheek. "Did… you know? What today is?"
"…hn" The black haired girl nodded, looking at the ground. "I've been thinking what to do today since yesterday but… I couldn't decide."
"Decide… what, exactly?" Tanjiro wondered; 'Kiss Day' seemed pretty self-explanatory.
"If I should kiss you." Kanao confessed.
"Hm… it wouldn't be our first kiss or anything but I feel that's not what you mean."
"It's just… would you be weirded out if I say I want to kiss you?"
"The opposite."
"Eh?"
"Eh?"
The second after those words came out, Tanjiro realized what he said and the two's faces quickly turned red.
"A-ah, I mean… well…" Tanjiro stuttered, moving his hands around as he tried to explain himself.
Kanao stared at him, her face completely red and her mouth opening like she wanted to say something but closing a second later several times.
After a minute, Tanjiro gulped and took a deep breath to calm down.
"I like to kiss you so… I would be happy if you say you want to kiss me." A thought then crossed his mind. "Were you worried if I want you to kiss me?"
"It's more like… I was nervous about being the one… initiating it." Kanao said, her blush not as red as before but her cheeks were still dusted pink. "You were always the one to ask if it was okay to kiss me and before I realized it I got really nervous about being the one that asks."
"...Kanao."
"Yes?"
Tanjiro grabbed her hand and closed the distance until their foreheads were touching.
"Kiss me." He said in a whisper.
Kanao flinched for a second at the request but happily obliged, closing the distance between them and gently pressing her lips against his.
They remained in that position for a few seconds before pulling back, their foreheads still touching.
"I will always be happy that you want to kiss me." Tanjiro said, smiling warmly. "You don't even need to ask."
Kanao stared into his eyes for a moment before moving a hand to his hair and closing the distance between their lips once more.
Tanjiro half-expected it to happen but still needed a moment to recover before he kissed her back.
A few seconds later, they separated once more.
"You were the one to ask for the first one so… it didn't feel like it counted as me giving you a kiss for 'Kiss Day'."
"But that one does, right?"
"Yes." She smiled brightly.
"Hm… does the one I asked for counts as me giving you a kiss for 'Kiss Day', then?" Tanjiro asked with a grin.
Kanao let out a giggle at his not-so-hidden intentions.
"I don't think it does, no." Before he could answered, she initiated their third kiss so far.
"…that one doesn't count either." Tanjiro chuckled after they separated again.
Kanao giggled alongside him.
And done!
Not much to say, I love TanKana and this gave me a pretty good reason to write, hehe.
