Day One: "May I have this dance?" + fluff
"Is she asleep?" Maddie asked as Chimney came out of the bedroom.
"Yeah," he said, yawning as he collapsed next to her on the couch.
"I can't believe it's been three weeks," Maddie said, her hand lazily drifting over to take his hand and wind their fingers together."
"Me either," Chimney said. "It feels like we blinked."
She leaned her head on his shoulder. "What should we do?" She asked. "Now that Jee is down for the night, hopefully. Do you want delivery?"
"Probably, but it's early enough," Chimney said. "Let's give it a few minutes, I just want to sit here and not think about anything."
Maddie nodded, snuggling into his side. Lying there not thinking about anything sounded like a great idea.
They were sat there, dozing, when the baby monitor went off, and Jee started to cry. Maddie nodded, beginning to stand up, but Chimney shook his head. "Let me," he said.
"I'll come with you," Maddie said, standing up along with Chimney. "We can try together."
Chimney nodded, and Maddie followed him into the bedroom. He leaned over Jee's crib, and she stopped crying when he picked her up. "It's like she's just lonely," Maddie marveled, stepping over. "She wants to know we're here."
"Why don't you turn on her lullaby playlist?" Chimney said, gently bouncing Jee. "Maybe if we leave that on it will soothe her enough."
Maddie selected the playlist on her phone before sliding her phone back into her pocket. Chimney had started to sway from side to side, holding Jee in his arms, and Maddie felt her heart swell.
"May I have this dance too?" She asked, and Chimney grinned.
"Of course," he said, using his free hand to take hers, and spin her in a circle. Maddie felt her whole heart burst with joy as the delicate music continued to play, and she danced with the two great loves of her life.
Did it get better than this?
