Chapter One.
"Void"
The Knight… Born of god and void, thoughtless, mindless, perfect. The perfect vessel was among the few to escape the abyss to the outside world and had made it to the Howling Cliffs, on the edge of the King's Pass, The Knight was ready to make their way to Dirtmouth: the last town of Hallownest.
Chapter Two.
"Infected"
Now in between the Howling Cliffs and Dirtmouth, there is a passageway known as the King's Pass (named after the king of the kingdom of Hallownest, Wyrm) now the problem with getting through the King's Pass is it is crawling with the infected. The infected are innocent bugs enslaved by The Radiance with one mission, kill the void, now you can understand why this passage would be challenging for a creature whose body is half void. Nevertheless, The Knight proceeded onward with their trusty nail, nothing could go wrong.
Chapter Three.
"The King's Pass"
Everything went wrong. The second The Knight jumped into the King's Pass they regretted it. First, there were the Tiktiks, these infecteds are almost blind but, they make up for that by having an incredible sense of smell as well as good hearing they can climb on everything with their incredibly sticky feet, in summary: annoying. Every time The Knight would bring their nail down on one of these creatures they would feel bad, but eventually, The Knight got to the barrier between the King's Pass and the entrance to Dirtmouth, with a few slashes of their nail the barrier was down, yes that does mean every once in a while an infected would arrive at the village, but The Knight would protect them, find other bugs of the nail art to help defeat The Radiance and bring peace to Hallownest!
Chapter Four.
"Dirtmouth"
Dirtmouth was a quiet town, the only person left there was the Elderbug. He was worried about the other citizens, he said that they had all been drawn down the well so The Knight decided to avoid the well for now. First, he would explore past the well, was a big temple sort of building, it had a signpost next to it reading "The Temple of the Black Egg. With their sacrifice Hallownest, lasts eternal", it sealed away the Hollow Knight, a being like The Knight, one of void and god, but the Hollow Knight was sealed away because he contained the heart of the infection. There was one person there, a bug by the name of Quirrel, he was a kind fellow but the sharp nail on his hip suggested that he might not be so kind to an infected. The Knight and Quirrel talked and Quirrel told The Knight that the reason he was here in the first place was because of his love for the unknown. Looks like he found a place.
Chapter Five.
"Down the well"
Knowing that they couldn't put it off any longer, The Knight exited the temple, walked to the edge of the well, and looking down they noticed that the well was much deeper than The Knight had expected. Seemingly forced to, The Knight jumped into the well, what was down there was not what they had expected, a vast expanse of twisting tunnels and pathways were all around The Knight, a sign stated where they had fallen into. The signpost was written in Hallowscript so it was easy for The Knight to read, but dear reader I'm afraid you aren't one of them, so let me translate it for you. The signpost read "The Forgotten Crossroads".
Chapter Six.
"Cornifer"
The Knight decided to go on one of the more trekked paths, just to the left to the entrance from which they had fallen. It was a narrow path, but it soon opened up into a massive chamber riddled with gruzzers, and it was a big drop to the bottom- lucky for them it was also filled with platforms going all the way down. While The Knight was dropping to the bottom, plenty of gruzzers decided to pay a visit, this wasn't good. When The Knight finally arrived at the bottom they could hear a faint whistle coming from below them. Instinctively they followed the sound, eventually, The Knight came across the source, well it was more of a "he" than an "it". They spoke in Hollowscript for a minute then, getting up took out some geo, the currency of the bug world. Giving the polished stones to the mapmaker in exchange for a map of the area, The Knight said goodbye to the mapmaker, Cornifer.
Chapter Seven.
"Wandering"
The Knight decides to wander the area below Cornifer, finding a large cavern with platforms scattered around it, the second they enter the area two aspids, small flying infecteds that spit globs of infection juice. The Knight (using the platforms) jumps up to slice the aspids out of the sky. After finishing those nuances The Knight jumps up to the entrance to a hot spring, relaxing in the hot bath they felt their strength returning.
Getting up The Knight wandered out of the bathhouse and back into the cavern he saw two entrances, one to the right, and one under the overhang that they had landed on. Deciding to go to the left, The Knight walked into a massive tunnel full of goams, worm-like creatures with thick, impenetrable hide and sharp teeth that make them very dangerous. Continuing onward The Knight carefully stepped around the holes the goams make their homes in they made it to a crossroads, up or straight, The Knight decided, up. Jumping up and grabbing the ledge The Knight was immediately met with an infected, quickly drawing their nail The Knight took a fighting stance. This infected had a large horn on its head, the infected suddenly charged at The Knight, surprised by this they tried to jump out of the way but their leg was clipped by the horn. Feeling their mask crack, The Knight quickly stabbed the rhino-like infected before anything else bad happened.
Chapter Eight.
"The Last Stag"
The Knight finally made it out of the tunnel and was immediately faced with a decision: up or down and, since it went so well last time, they went up. This time it went fine, good actually, because when they pulled themself up there was a sign with a face of a stag. Now the stags of Hollownest are bugs who are one of the long-distance transportation methods that bugs use. Now before you start a Twitter rant about canceling the Pale King, the stags love their job and their bodies are built for quick movement. Eagerly The Knight rushes in through the door, only to find a bench, toll, and locked gate, sitting down on the bench to think The Knight pulls some geo out of their cloak and then realizes that the crack in their mask is gone!
After paying the 50 geo required to open the gate The Knight went to inspect the entrance but to The Knights surprise, a bell also shot up from the ground
The Knight rang the bell, but not in the way you would expect. You see, The Knight is very short (not a bad thing) so to ring the bell they hit it with their nail. Suddenly a thundering sound shook the ground, running to hide behind the bench The Knight felt fear for the first time. Finally the shaking stopped, The Knight peeked out from behind the bench, there stood a stag in the entrance to the tunnels. The stagways.
Chapter Nine.
"The Gruz Mother"
After walking down a long passageway The Knight found a large cavern with a sleeping Gruzzer. Now this is not an ordinary Gruzzer, this is the Gruz Mother. The Knight politely continued onward, but to their surprise the door closed right in front of them. "Alright" The Knight thought "I'll just wake up our sleeping friend here". Politely they nudged sleeping beauty, nothing, "I'll just poke her" they thought, that was a bad idea. The instant the tip of the nail touched the skin the big Gruzzer went crazy, literally bouncing off the walls of the small room. Surprised, The Knight quickly drew their nail, but it was too late, the giant Gruzzer slammed her body into them, making a crack in their mask.
The fight was not too long, and The Knight only had two cracks in their mask, but the instant The Knight drove the final blow, the giant gruzzer's stomach exploded and tons of tiny gruzzers burst out of the stomach. Scared, The Knight jumped back and started frantically swinging their nail back and forth to keep them back, but another hit was taken, scared for their life, The Knight ran around swinging their nail at the hoard of gruzzers. Finally, after a lot of panicking the gruzzers were defeated and The Knight could rest.
Mask almost broken, The Knight trudged onward and heard a strange laughing coming from a house just out of their reach. Near the strange house there were a few houses, most were broken, but there were two that were still intact with lights on inside. The Knight knocked on the first door but no one answered, so they walked inside, there, standing in the middle of the room was a small bug, just slightly smaller than The Knight, but the size of this bug was not the strange part. There was an orange mist hovering over the bug and when The Knight went up to the bug, their eyes were glazed over and they were mumbling something about someone named Oro. The Knight shook the small bug a bit and he snapped back to reality, "Oh! Who are you? What a strange dream, it must have led me back to this old place, if you hadn't found me I'm afraid I would never have woken. I live an uneventful life up in Dirtmouth, I run a shop if you would like to stop by sometime, now I certainly must be going". Waving at the small bug they realized they should be going too.
