Writer's Notes: Welcome to Witches of the Eclipse!

[Salem, Massachusetts 1693]

Massacres. That is what you could call it. Women, men, and children torn from their homes and cast into the flames. The end of the trials came finally. But so many lives were lost. So many homes destroyed in this small Massachusetts town. Relationships were shredded, and now neighbor…could not trust their neighbor. The people executed for witchcraft, weren't actually, witches. No, no. Witches were far too smart to be discovered carelessly as such. Instead, they disappeared into the night, under the Eclipse, changing location, and lingering in the shadows until they found a new town to settle. Unlike fairytales and old stories, witches were beautiful or handsome. They lived prolonged lives, and some, could be truly immortal. It was a matter of what sort of witch you were, and what kind of magic you called upon. It also depended upon your coven. The coven in which inhabited Salem during the trials, was a small one, apothecary by nature, and never harming anyone, not even a fly.

"Mama, do we have to leave so suddenly?" The London accent of a small, fair boy called to his mother.

A woman, beautiful in every regard, turned to her son. She was fair as well, her hair pulled back in rivets of curls, wrapped tight in a bun. "Carlisle, my dear son, we must. Through no fault of our own, it has become too dangerous to live amongst the people of this town."

"But mama, what of Esme?" Carlisle spoke softly as she said the girl's name. Esme was the daughter of the magistrate. She was, for all intents and purposes, his first love. As an eight-year-old boy, he knew what love was, and he knew that it was Esme.

"She is not part of the coven my dear. I am terribly sorry."

Carlisle cast a look over his shoulder at the smoldering light of the town, before disappearing into the darkness with his mother.

[Forks, Washington 2021]

Winter was always so gloomy. The harsh cold tormented the ones that longed for a decent fall, or a light summer. In Forks, it was always wet. It rained eighty percent of the year, so it came as no surprise that the winter would bring with it layers of snow.

"Bella!"

Bella opened her eyes, looking around her room. The cold, hard wood floor was a dark oak color and besides the floor, everything in her room was modern. Her favorite color was blue, so everything was accented as such. She was senior in high-school, and compared to that of her siblings, she was the recluse. She was not preppy, nor perky. She looked at the clock, 6:10 AM. She sighed and threw on clothes, before disappearing into her personal bathroom, and brushing her teeth. She looked at herself in the mirror. She was thin, pale, her hair was dark, licking down towards the center of her back, and her eyes were an unusual dark sapphire color. She brushed her hair out, and twisted it in a long braid, before slipping her shoes on and walking down the massive, bright stairs in the house.

"I'm awake." Bella grumbled.

Carlisle looked up at his oldest daughter. "You only have another week before Christmas break." He spoke, his voice lilted slightly from his accent from London.

"Bella, it's the winter wonderland dance this Friday," The voice of Mary Alice, the middle sister, who also went by just Alice, sounded as she trotted down the stairs.

Bella groaned. "Do I have to go? Alice, we just moved here, how do you know all of this stuff already?"

"Yes, and because it's on the website." Alice said, smiling brightly at Bella. Alice was small, pixie like, her dark hair brushing her shoulder's and her sapphire eyes matched Bella's.

Carlisle's eyes were a light stone blue, but his wife's were a dark blue/green. "Okay, where is Clarissa?"

"I'm here," Clarissa, was the youngest of the three, but was only ten months younger than Alice. She was the oddball. Her hair was a fiery red, matching the deep auburn hair that was her mother's. It tumbled in curls to the middle of her shoulder blades, and her eyes were an emerald green.

"Okay, I know this area is new to everyone. This school will help you three. We're protected here in this town. I promise we don't have to move around anymore."

Bella sighed and looked at her dad. "Okay, we'll behave."

Carlisle nodded, and looked up at his wife when she walked in from the kitchen. Jocelyn was exquisite. She was dressed nicely, prepared for the gallery opening today, and he was going to start his first day at the hospital.

"Bella, please try and make friends." Jocelyn said, her voice was also touched with an accent from England. All three of the girls had a bit of the accent, but they had grown up in America, so it wasn't quite as noticeable as their parents. Bella's accent was probably more prominent than her younger sisters.

"First day of magic school!" Alice exclaimed gleefully.

"It's not a magic school Alice, it's a school for non-humans." Clarissa corrected.

Alice rolled her eyes. "Close enough."

"Alright, you're going to be late. School starts at 7:15," Jocelyn shooed them away.

Bella was first out the door, and got into her dark blue, land rover. Alice and Clarissa got in with her, and Bella drove off to their new school, Forks High.

Carlisle slipped his arm around Jocelyn's waist. "They'll be okay. This was a good idea."

"I know it is my love. We have to let them be the witches they're meant to be." Jocelyn said with a smile and kissed his cheek. "Go on, you've got rounds at the hospital, and I have the gallery opening in Port Angeles." She said and slipped away, grabbing her purse and keys. "Love you."

Carlisle smiled. "Love you too." He murmured, and watched her walk out the door. He sighed, and grabbed his own keys. After so long of bouncing place to place, settling down felt like a nice oddity to him.

[Forks High]

Bella pulled up in the parking lot, parking and getting out, slinging her messenger bag over her shoulder. Alice was pressed preppy like, wearing a skirt, with high wool stockings up to her knees, and her blouse was a long-sleeved white ruffled blouse, and her she wore a coat that was grey and wool, and went down to her middle of her calf. Clarissa was wearing skinny jeans, dark, bleach washed, and a rock-n-roll t-shirt, for Queen. Her winter coat was like Alice's, but was black.

Bella wore mostly jeans, converse, and a long-sleeved, plain ribbed shirt, and a long winter coat, a navy color. Alice and Clarissa wore makeup, and Bella left her face bare. She was not the girly type, and even though Clarissa wasn't usually either, she liked to show off her femininity with her face, and not her clothes.

The trio walked across the parking lot, the snow around them was blinding, and slippery, so they were careful as they stepped up on the sidewalk. Except Bella, she wasn't as graceful as her sisters. She slipped and then hands were on her, catching her.

"Oof," Bella groaned. "I'm sorry." She looked up at who her savior was. His hair was dark, a chaotic messy, but it seemed styled. His face was pale, and his eyes were a sage green.

"It's fine." The boy murmured and then released her, before moving along without another word.

Bella blinked a few times. "Odd."

"What's odd?" Alice asked.

"He tried to read my thoughts." Bella murmured. "I think he's a vampire."

Alice watched the boy disappear inside. "Possibly. I'm not sure though." She said with a smile. "Come on, let's go get our class schedules, and get to class. Junior year is going to be great!"

Clarissa smiled. She jumped a year with her private studies, so she too was a Junior despite being only sixteen. Alice was seventeen, and Bella was the oldest, eighteen. The trio walked into the school, going to the front office. They received their schedules, and off to find their lockers and get to homeroom before the bell rang. They were given hall passes in case it took them a bit longer.

Bella's locker was close to her homeroom, so she was lucky. She put her messenger back up in the locker, shutting it, and only taking with her, her notebook. She was told she would get her books throughout the day from each class, which there were only four, outside her homeroom, and study hall. She looked at her schedule again, just to verify the classroom number, and then walked into the classroom. She went to the teacher's desk and handed him a slip of paper.

"Bella Cullen." The teacher spoke. He wasn't very old, his had light brown shaggy hair, and a goatee, and his eyes were a brilliant steel color. "I'm Mr. Starkweather. Go ahead and take a seat, row two, seat four." He said, and lay the slip of paper on his desk.

Bella went to the desk he indicated and sat down. The bell hadn't rung yet, but most of the classroom was situated already. When the bell sounded, Mr. Starkweather picked up a black leather book. He started calling roll.

"Bella Cullen," Mr. Starkweather got to Bella's name. "Stand up."

Bella looked around, and stood.

"New student everyone, Bella, meet your senior class. You have five months before graduation." Mr. Starkweather announced.

All eyes moved to Bella, and she just smiled awkwardly and nodded, before sitting back in her seat and Mr. Starkweather finished up roll.

"Alright," he set his book aside. "A few things. Winter formal is Friday, keep your dance proposals to a safe minimum. The Winter play is also doing auditions. See the sign up sheet posted on the bulletin board. The KWT is happening in Port Angeles, two weeks from Friday. My blackbelts, Jacob, Emmett, Jasper, remember that humans aren't superhuman. The test is to assess your ability to hold back. I know you're all strong players, and I know that you can beat humans in any showdown, but this isn't what it's about. Got it?"

Jacob Black, a bronze giant, smiled wide, his pearly white teeth flashing. His hair was pulled back into a bun, and was the color of soot. His dark brown eyes were nearly black, and even though he was wearing clothes, you could see the outline of his bulging muscles. "You got it coach."

Mr. Starkweather nodded. "Jasper, no mind control. I'll know." He said.

Jasper Whitlock was quiet, his hair was blonde, and hung to his shoulders, but it was messy on top, his eyes were a liquid amber color, and Bella realized that he was a telepath at the very least. He looked strong, but she wasn't quite sure what species he belonged to. She knew by looking at Jacob, that he was a werewolf. But Jasper only nodded to Mr. Starkweather, not saying a word.

"Emmett?"

"Yeah yeah yeah, I got it." Emmett McCarty was brawny, tall, dark blonde hair, and navy eyes. His size reminded her of Jacob's, but Bella didn't think he was a werewolf. She would get better at identifying the supernatural soon enough, she assumed.

The bell rang overhead, and everyone got up from their seats and filtered out of the room.

"Bella," Mr. Starkweather called out to her.

Bella paused, turning to look at him.

"I know your father well, and your mother. If you have issues here, please let me know."

Bella nodded. "Thank you." She murmured, and left to go on to her first class which was Magical Chemistry with Ragnor Fell. She would stay quiet, and just finish out her schooling, so she could disappear from this world, she didn't like being a witch. Magic to her wasn't something that interested her, she only wanted to live a normal life.
