"Fly!"
"Fly wake up..." a little girls voice sobbed.
Flys eyes were slowly opening and closing, desperately trying to keep them open as his little sister and cousin screamed over Flys body. His gills were leaking blood, dying the water around him red and his tail was torn to shreds from the impact of Crabs claw smashing against him.
He couldn't fight it, he needed to close his eyes. His breathing was heavy and struggled to let each one out of his mouth. Until he stopped.
The screams became echos, until they faded into nothing.
Fly awakes in panic, his chest rising with anxiety and his breathing unsteady. His face and body were drenched in sweat, including his bed sheets.
"It's just a dream... it's just a dream." He panted.
It had been 3 years since the incidentthat nearly caused him to die. He had been unsettled going near the ocean ever since and sold all of his fishing supplies due to the trauma it had all caused.
Fly swung his legs out of bed, walking towards the desk that faced his window to take a sip of water that stood on the desk. As he drank, he stared at his neighbours house why Honeys bedroom light was still on at 3am.
Honey. That beautiful blue eyed brunette.
She and her parents moved across the street a year after Flys incident. Honey and Fly instantly became the best of friends along with both of their parents which resulted in family parties and get togethers. He really thought she'd think he was crazy about the whole 'turning into fish' malarkey, but she didn't. She believed him, and still does to this day even at the age of 16.
Fly couldn't help but pick up his phone and ring Honeys number, curious to see if she'd answer.
No answer.
He rang again, and yet again there was no answer.
"Hmm." His brow raised in confusion, resulting him to grab his jacket and climb out of his window, sliding down the pipes that ran down from the side of his window to the ground.
Stumbling as he touched the ground, he walked across the street towards the front of Honeys house where her bedroom window was just above him.
"Honey?" Fly loudly whispered.
She didn't come to the window, which caused him to roll his eyes. 'Typical' he thought.
Grabbing a small stone that was in the grass, he gently threw it up to tap her window.
The window opens, with Honeys head hanging out of it.
"Fly! It's 3am what're you doing awake?" She asked with concern.
"I came to ask you the same thing, I did try calling you."
"Hang on, I'll let you in but you need to be quiet."
"Ok." Fly smiled softly, before Honey shut her window in response.
The front door started to rumble as Honey unlocked it, until it opened to reveal her in her pink pyjamas with her hair up in a half up do with a pink ribbon. Fly always thought she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen, her nose quite similar to his but smaller with plump, pink lips and the most bluest eyes. She was a lot different to the other girls at school, she was never afraid to be herself which resulted in other girls bullying her so she was quite quiet and reserved at school whilst Fly hung around with the quite 'well known' or as other people call them 'popular kids' but he always made sure to hang around with her too which resulted in him getting teased too. But he didnt care, he thought the world of her. She was precious to him.
"Come in." She whispered, waving him over with her hand.
Fly obeyed her command, and stepped through the front door.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?"
"Yeah I umm, had a nightmare again and saw your light was on I wanted to see if you were okay..." he replied.
"Oh Fly." She sighed sympathetically, "You can talk to me, you know that right?"
"I know..." his head lowered, trying not to make eye contact.
Honey saw how upset Fly was, silence fell upon them both.
"I'll get you a drink, sit down." She insisted.
Listening to Honey, Fly followed her to the kitchen and sat on the stool that stood next to the island counter and he watched her make him a cold drink. Setting the drink in front of him, he thanked her and started to sip the cool beverage.
"Do you want to talk about it?" She offered.
"It's the same nightmare... over and over again Honey. It's traumatising. I miss my old life, I miss fishing and swimming yet I can't get over my fears and if I do I feel like I'd be fine."
"Is this the dream that crab hit you but you didn't survive?"
Fly nodded slowly, causing Honey to bow her head.
"You know... maybe a trip to the beach will help. You don't have to go anywhere near the sea, it's just a start. Take baby steps. We can always go together if it helps? We could take Stella and Sasha too." She suggested.
Fly smiled lightly. "I guess that's not such a bad idea, I need to face things sooner or later to get my life back. Thank you Honey, I don't know what I'd do without you."
Honey blushed and Fly noticed, making him blush too. Silence crept over the two of them once again.
"You know, Chucks in town for the summer to see us and the Professor. He arrives tomorrow... How about me, you and Stella go along with Chuck to see Professor MacKrill? It's on the beach and I suppose it'll get me used to it again."
"I'd like that, thank you Fly. Yeah, it'll get you used to things again and it'll nice to spend time with Stella and Chuck too."
"Stella will be excited about that. She adores you." Fly chuckled.
"Who can blame her?" Honey joked, causing Fly to scoff jokingly.
"So, why were you still awake?"
"Just thinking about things I guess... Just don't want the summer to end." She shrugged.
"But why?"
"I'm just sick of being treated like dirt, no matter how kind I am. All the girls at school either pick on me or don't talk to me at all, I only have you in reality and I can't always follow you around like a lost puppy." She explained.
"I don't think you follow me around like a lost puppy, your my best friend. I always like having you around wherever I go." Fly assured with a smile and grabbing her hand, stroking it with his thumb.
Honey felt her face and ears burn, she smiled back in return before pulling her hand away awkwardly.
"I'd never let anyone be mean to you Honey. You're safe."
"And you're safe with me, I'll help you every step of the way to getting better." She smiled.
Fly got up from the stool in Honeys kitchen slowly, coming towards her to embrace her in a warm and gentle hug. "I best go, I'll see you tomorrow. Just come over whenever you want."
"Goodnight Fly." Honey softly spoke.
"Goodnight Honey." He waved before closing the door behind him.
Fly slept so much better after seeing Honey, he always felt safe and at home with her around. She made him feel at ease.
He slept peacefully, with no more disturbances for the rest of the night.
