Hello. I'm a newbie here, but I hope you like this story I wanted to try out. Reviews, favs and constructive criticism appreciated.

Whispers.
The dark alleyways twisted and turned, in a never ending maze.
Whispers floating with the wind.

The wind whistled softly over the sleeping skyscrapers, and tall buildings, not a soul to be seen. It breezed over the few trees that lined the sides of the road, tender leaves rustling and fluttering. The cars that seldom passed by went quietly, engines purring gently, as if to make sure the peaceful mist hovering over the city stayed. A bare dusting of stars in the sky, hiding behind the wisps of cloud.

She turned the corner, shadows thrown sharply in the thick and forbidding atmosphere. Attempting to throw off her pursuers, she jogged along sharp turns, hoping they would get lost somewhere along the maze of streets. Bounded forward, leapt over a few upturned bins, and then-
Came face to face with the people she was trying so hard to outrun.

Disoriented, she backed up, slightly stumbling over the trash and sending a used-up can of spray paint skittering over the dirty pavement. In a vain attempt, she turned around to run away once again. But to no avail. A large, beefy hand clamped on her mouth, not before she screamed-
"Ahh! And the mysterious blonde man kidnapped her, and took her far, far away!"

A raven-haired small girl ran across the stage along with her friend, trying to act out the skit they had come up with for their school project. Another one of her classmates played a dramatic tune on the keyboard, signalling the entrance of another character.

"But lo! Now we have nothing to fear! The mafia is no longer operational! We can all trust each other!"
Hearty guffaws and puffs of laughter were heard from a bulky, stockily built boy; which were quickly stifled from the intense glares he received from the parents of the children.

The raven-haired girl said, "Of course! We can now roam the streets freely, without any fear of the blondes!"

Her friends glanced at each other. Some things never did change..."Yeah! I don't have to worry about others judging me because of my hair color! I can be accepted by society! And I'm gonna become a...lawyer!"

"And I don't have to hide behind my parents backs! I can become...an astronaut!"

The raven-haired shouted, "We don't have to be afraid anymore! I will become a police officer! Together, we can change the world! And all of our dreams can come true. 9 kilometres away, lies the wonderful city of Zootropolis, where anyone can be anything!", followed by the ending music and a short bow. The audience clapped and cheered, but since they were mostly kids, they didn't notice the worried and stupefied glances a couple shot at each other, concerned about their daughter's courageous and rather naive announcement.

Said couple confronted their headstrong daughter, trying to make her see reason. "Misaki, dear, I'm not sure that becoming a police officer is a great idea. I mean, there's never been a girl officer before!", her mother said.

Her father pitched in too. "It'll be dangerous sweetie, and you're mothers darn right! There has never, I mean never, a girl officer before."

Misaki, who had been hopping along on the pavement , stopped short, appearing downcast. "Oh."

Then her face lit up like a Christmas tree," Then I'll be the first one!"

Her parents inaudibly groaned to themselves, thinking of another way to persuade their daughter into taking a less dangerous profession. "But there are so many other things you could do! I mean, look at your mother and I! We settled down with our nice, big farm, and we're happy! Why don't you want to do that? Right, Minako?"

"Right, Sakuya. We just settled, and we're successful."

But when they both glanced down from each other, they found their conversation was being heard by only an empty patch of grass, with no wayward daughter in sight.

While her parents went on ranting and raving about the other, safer, possibilities in life, Misaki had spotted, in the corner of her eye, the boy that had been laughing during the skit, accompanied by that skinny boy, whose face looked astoundingly similar to that of a rat. They were stealthily following a group of three girls, and she knew the boys were up to no good. She saw them vanish behind a thick set of bushes, and knowing that it would soon be her job to help people in need, went after them, leaving her parents in the middle of their lecture.

She pushed through the dense bush, and came across the boys, Shirokawa and Kurosaki, if she remembered correctly, picking on the girls.

"I'm not going to give you my tickets! I bought them for me and my friends with my own hard work!"

"Ohh, well did you now? I'm afraid that blondes, as your stupid friend quoted, are not safe to be with. We're still out large, all part of the mafia!", he sneered, looking over to his friend for support.

"Yeah, he's right. And you're just some poor, defenseless girls; I mean, look at her eyes, she's totally scared, ha ha!"

The bigger one of the two snatched the tickets out of the girl's hand, stuffing it into his pocket.

"Come and get 'em, pipsqueak!"

"Give her back her tickets."

While watching the drama unfold, Misaki had crept up to them as silently as she could, berating herself for not changing out of her costume.

"Oh no, Missy cop here is gonna jail me for it! Ooh, I'm so scared!"

Still holding out a hand, she said, "Hand it over, now."

With another puff of evil laughter, the boy had pushed her down, and said, "You're pretty much delusional if you think that you'll make the cut for a cop. Chasing your dreams like that, relentlessly? You're just some dumb girl, anyway-Youch!"

Her attempt at a punch to his face, and now she was regretting it.

"Ohoh, getting violent, now are we?"

A biting slap resounded throughout the area, followed by gasps from the girls who had been watching the exchange with bated breath.

"Heh, that should teach you a lesson."

Swaggering away to a blueberry shop, the two left the girls to their devices.

"Misaki, are you alright?!"

The girls crowded around her, examining her red cheek.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Here, you should have this."

Gasping, the girl took the tickets from Misaki's hand.

"Oh, you're brilliant, Misaki! That guy doesn't know what he's talking about!"

"Thanks, guys. But he was right about one thing- I will chase my dreams relentlessly; whatever it takes, I will not give up."

Hope you guys liked it. I'm not so sure about how long I might take to update, but I'll be sure to not forget about it completely.
Oh, and...if you guys noticed, this story is based on Zootopia(2016), the animated movie. Please drop a Review if you can.
