Onigatsuki

Note: I couldn't tell you where this came from, it's just an idea that popped into my head. I've been suffering from writer's block in my larger fics, so I thought maybe writing this would would help clear my head a little.

Selene's least favorite part about taking a bath was having to get out of the water. The warm water was so relaxing and comforting, especially after a busy day like the one she just had. But, nonetheless, she had things to do, as she pulled herself out of the water, and climbed back up to her temple.

"You'll have to excuse me, I prefer to bathe several times a day if I can," Selene said, as she approached her "guests", the three girls of Team Natsu, all suspended by ropes (Erza in the middle, flanked by Lucy and Wendy), glaring at the Moon Dragon. They were all just wearing their underwear, which didn't bother Erza, but Lucy and Wendy certainly weren't happy about it.

"Do you make a habit out of bathing in front of people?" Lucy asked, half-sarcastically.

"I don't see what the issue is, we're all women here," Selene said calmly as she was dressed by her servants and came up to them, "Besides, are dragons not 'naked' all the time?"

"Where're Natsu and Gray?" Erza demanded, as she tired her best to lean forward.

"Oh I'm afraid they wont' be joining us right now," Selene answered as she was poured a cup of sake.

"What're you going to do to us?" Wendy asked nervously.

"Well, I'm not going to kill you, if that's what you're wondering," Selene said, as she sat down in front of a table, "In fact, I don't see much point in such a thing right now."

"Then why are we here?" Erza asked.

"You're not going to eat us, are you?" Lucy asked nervously, remembering dragons who made a habit of doing exactly that.

"Well, I have tried human a couple times, but I can't say I ever developed much of a taste," Selene answered sardonically, "You're all too bony, and you leave a bizarre after taste."

"Why doesn't that make me feel better?" Lucy grumbled to herself.

"At any rate, it doesn't make much sense to eat the entertainment," Selene continued, as she sipped her drink.

"Entertainment?" Erza echoed, "What's that supposed to mean?"

"Exactly what it sounds like," Selene explained, "Honestly, I'd have to say that if there's anything in the world that motivates me, it's entertainment."

"So.. you're just looking to have fun?" Wendy asked slowly. Selene looked up at the girl, as a maniacal smile worked its way onto her face.

"To see this world distorted and twisted," she said, "To see people plunged into the depths of despair. What could be better than that?" Those words sent chills down the girls' spines, as they let those words set in. So everything Selene was doing was just out of a desire to entertain herself?

"So you're just cruel for the sake of being cruel?" Erza said, her face contorting in disgust.

"Well, if you wish to put it like that, I won't protest," Selene said with a shrug, as she leaned back, "But that's neither here nor there at this point, and at any rate, it puts a damper on the mood."

"The mood?" Wendy asked, now confused again.

"Of course," Selene answered, as she clapped "This is a party after all!" As if on cue, a number of women emerged into the room, carrying various trays of food. Music then started playing, and people started dancing as a full-blown celebration broke out. Among them were the Moonlit Beauty Goddesses, none of whom the girls were especially happy to say. A few women even stripped, and started to dance naked.

"Can you all have a little decency?!" Erza snapped, "There's a child in here!" Needless to say, she was ignored. For her own, Lucy found herself being greeted by the same woman who trounced her earlier.

"Honestly, this isn't really how I would've wanted you to get tougher," Mimi said, as she squatted beside Lucy with a jug of sake.

"Sorry to disappoint you," Lucy spat out.

"Oh well," Mimi said with a shrug, "Maybe, the following experience will help toughen you up somehow."

"Experience? What're you talking about?"

"You'll see soon enough," Mimi answered, as she seemed to down an entire bottle of sake in one swig. Hakune looked somewhat disappointed, as she overlooked the girls.

"I wish Youko did it with you instead," she said, with a pout, as she sat back, "Watching girls isn't as entertaining as watching men."

"What're you getting at there?" Erza asked.

"Well, why don't we show you?" Selene answered, as she looked at Youko, "Just as we planned?"

"Yes!" Youko said, with a salute, "All preparations have been made!"

"Very well then," Selene said, as she rose to her feet, "Then let the party continue." She then held up her hand to the moon, which began to glow brighter.

"Fitting isn't it?" the Moon Dragon said darkly, "Going from a paradise like this, to a hell like that.."

"What're you…" Erza couldn't finish, as the moon started to glow brighter and brighter. The girls all cried out, as they were forced to close their eyes as the light consumed them.

Lucy let out a slight squeak as she was deposited onto the hard ground face down. She rubbed her head as she boosted herself up, looking around. She saw that she was in the middle of a large cavern system.

"Where am I?" she asked, confused.

"You're in Onigatsuki," Selene's voice echoed through the cavern, from nowhere in particular, "The dwelling place of the yokai of the rivers and mountains, at the very bottom of Black Moon Mountain. Now, what say we see you try and claw your way back to the top? Though I would watch for the yokai that patrol the area."

"The wha…" Lucy couldn't finish, as out of the shadow burst out a monster that almost looked like an umbrella with legs. The blonde yelped as she leapt out of the way, face-planting on the ground again. She heard the sound of laughing coming from around the cavern, presumably from Selene and her minions.

"Open, Gate of the Maiden: Virgo!" Lucy said, as she summoned said spirit, slamming her hand on the ground, thankful that she didn't need her keys to summon them.

"Princess," Virgo said, as she manifested, giving a salute, "What is…". She paused as she was suddenly knocked away by the umbrella monster.

"What exactly is happening here?" she asked, not looking the least bit phased as she sat herself up.

"I'll explain later," Lucy answered, as she activated her Star Dress, "I ned to help me handle all these monsters!"

"Of course," Virgo said, saluting again, before kicking away another yokai (that resembled a cross between a frog and a turtle with a strange cup on its head). Lucy joined the fight as well, as she finally dealt with the umbrella (words she never thought she'd have to think in her life).

This continued for some time, and Lucy was starting to get nervous about this whole thing. It wasn't like the yokai were very strong, and that was exactly what was starting to worry her. It was like something was being held back, waiting for something else, something worse to come up. And eventually, that exact thing happened…

As she beat down another yokai, a strange sensation came upon her. It was a magical presence, one that was powerful, and yet somehow familiar…

"What's this presence?" Lucy asked, as she looked around. At first she didn't see anything, though the presence didn't go away. That was when there was a sudden light to her left…

"Princess, look…" Virgo didn't get to finish as she was suddenly knocked away by a flash of fire.

"Virgo!" Lucy cried as her spirit faded away. Granted, she didn't have much time to react, as she herself was knocked away by a powerful fist. She skidded to a halt, as she looked up to see the new creature that was now standing before.

The tall creature resembled an emaciated man, wearing just a loincloth, with not a hair anywhere on its body, and skin that looked to be covered in burn scars. Parts of his body seemed to be on fire, including his head, hands and feet. But Lucy wasn't looking at that; rather, she was looking at his face. As she did, her fear turned to confusion, which quickly turned into horror, as recognition came over her looking into that face.

"Natsu!"

Note: This was really just a little "food for thought" idea. There still aren't that many "yokai Fairy Tail" stories on this sight (or anywhere really) despite the potential. One thing I was kind of curious about was why (fan service not withstanding) Selene chose not to turn all the team but Natsu and Gray into yokai. I guess it makes relative sense from a story perspective, since Wendy was easily able to undo it, and I'm under the impression that Natsu's nature as an Etherious might mean he wouldn't be affected. Still, I thought it was worth exploring, though honestly.

I originally was going to make it all one big thing, but I decided it'd be a bit more interesting if I did a multi-chapter story. That said, I really doubt this is going to be much longer than a few chapters, since there isn't much ground to really cover. As some can maybe guess, I'm deliberately trying to tell this in a similar form and pattern as the manga.

For the record, the kind of yokai Natsu's been turned into is called a "kazenbo", a yokai said to resemble a monk immolating himself. The image serving in the cover is meant to be exactly that.
