Plagg's POV
"Come on Sugarcube, you-know-who is waiting." Plagg sighed impatiently.
"But it has to be just right." Tikki exclaimed as she sprinkled rose petals all over the glossy black tile floor.
He would like to take Tikki on a date here instead of helping set up these blind humans. Wait what did he just think? Tikki would never want to do that with him; it's not like he'd been trying for centuries or anything. Plagg began to imagine the ideal kwami date with his destined other half. First, there is camembert--an unlimited amount. And of course a buffet of sweets for Sugarcube. Huh, her unhealthy addiction to sugar was soooo adorable. Plagg would take her to the top of the Eiffel tower for a romantic evening. As much as he pretended to hate romance, he was secretly as cheesy as Adrien. Ha, get it cheesy. Yet, it seemed the possibility of a romantic relationship happening between him and Tikki was as hopeless as Marinette and Adrien. Ah Adrienette--the best ship ever! Plagg has actually come up with the date setup idea as he wrote some new Adrienette fanfiction.
"Plagg! Why are you staring at me? Get to work!" He looked up just in time to catch Tikki's eyes. Her face was so cute when she was flustered like that. Gosh, she was like Marinette in that way. His eyes darted away before they could be left to expose what was in his heart.
"I'm on it. Sorry I was thinking about my--uh--uh--fanfiction."
"Plagg, you write fanfiction? You of all people…..I can't believe it." She looked particularly amused, dimples revealing themselves beneath her cerulean eyes.
"I-I didn't mean to say that. But I guess I'll have to admit to it now." Plagg glanced over at her self-consciously but was met with a warm ambiance.
"Aww Plagg you're too cute." He heard Tikki's familiar giggle. Camembert--she thought he was cute! "Who do you write about?"
"Uh--Adrien and Marinette hahahha."
"Please bring it to me sometime. I'd love to read your work! And don't be embarrassed Plagg; I think writing is an amazing talent to have." Plagg fell in love with that daring red kwami even more that moment.
"O--okay I will." He returned her smile. It was time.
"It's time. Tikki, I'll fetch Adrien at his modeling shoot and you get Marinette. You remember the plan right?"
"Sure. Adrien thinks you set him up on a blind date. While Marinette thinks I set her up on a blind date. Which I mean isn't far from the truth…..I hope this all works out."
"It will. A great mind came up with the plan." He smirked.
"Plagg, you're too cocky. I'll see you later." She waved and flew away, and it felt as though Plagg's heart had flown away with her.
--
"Come on Adrien, you're going to absolutely adore her--I just know it. I have a sneaking suspicion you may find her strikingly familiar." Plagg grinned mischievously. Adrien had no clue what he was up to.
"I've told you a million times that I only have eyes for Ladybug, but you just kept insisting that I show up tonight, so I'll grant you this one favor. Don't think anything is going to happen though…….And just who is this mystery woman that is so special in your eyes?" Adrien rambled on before walking into the five-star restaurant.
"We'll see about that, Agreste. And you'll recognize her, don't worry."
"Plagg, I feel like you're playing games with me. But I'm already here now so I might as well find out." Plagg knew that Adrien's curiosity would get the best of him. The irony was dumbfounding. Adrien "only had eyes for Ladybug," yet couldn't even recognize her when she was right in front of his face. It must be the model in him.
As Adrien walked in and spotted Marinette at the table specifically reserved for the "blind date", Plagg flew to meet Tikki behind the plants. It was the perfect hiding place to watch Adrienette take form. Adrien appeared as if he had just received the shock of a lifetime, but quickly hid his surprise with a friendly, slightly hopeful smile plastered across his face. Marinette wasn't quite so smooth. The second she realized Adrien was approaching her table, she became really flustered and knocked her water glass over on her dress. Adrien quickly rushed to help Marinette clean up the mishap, being understanding as he always was. Plagg had bugged the table so he and Tikki could listen in on the conversation. This was almost as exciting as discovering a new type of cheese!
"Adrien--what--what you here-why--who sent--kwami?" Marinette fumbled over her words.
"Pull yourself together Marinette!" Tikki coached from behind the plants, obviously knowing she was well out of Marinette's hearing range.
"Someone's quite invested in this operation." Plagg teased Tikki.
"Says you Mr. Fanfic." Tikki shot back, making Plagg's heart pulse. "Hush, so we can hear what's going on."
"Did you--just mention a kwami?" Adrien asked Marinette.
"Kwami--what--what's that? I've never heard of such a thing. Is that a new toy of some kind?" Marinette saved herself. Darn, a reveal would be awesome, although Tikki would never approve of such an event. But who needs all those boring Guardian rules anyways?
"Well I heard from Alya that they're something related to miraculouses." Adrien covered well.
"Oh that makes sense. So what brings you here?"
"Uhh--a mutual friend said he knew of a special girl he wanted me to meet, so here I am."
"Oh same here basically. Sorry if I'm not exactly what you were expecting." Marinette looked down in fearful anticipation of Adrien's response.
"No, no that's not it. I mean I certainly didn't expect you to be my blind date, but it was a nice surprise." Adrien moved his hand over to hers to reassure her. It seemed to help.
"I'm glad you were my blind date." Marinette stated boldly before she had time to process the words. Wow she was acting more like Ladybug now.
"Wow, Marinette--I--there's something I should probably tell you before--"
"Here's your drinks and food." The waitress interrupted Adrien's thoughts. This was good because Adrien was about to mess this up.
"Plagg--go! You know what you have to do!"
Plagg flew into Adrien's leg forcefully and signaled to the bathroom.
"If you'll excuse me one moment Marinette."
"Of course." She sat politely waiting.
Adrien and Plagg dodged into the restroom.
"What is it Plagg?"
"You're ruining this whole thing Agreste!"
"What do you mean?--And hey wait, why did you set me up with Marinette when you know she's just a friend. Plus, there's Luka."
"You are even blonder than I thought Adrien. Can't you give Marinette a shot? Everyone can tell you have a soft spot for her except for you. And Marinette broke up with Luka like two weeks ago buddy, keep up."
"They broke up, really?" Adrien considered this for a moment and what it might mean for him and Marinette.
"Someone's had a change of tune."
"I don't know Plagg. There's still Ladybug. And how did you even get Marinette to come here anyways? You couldn't have approached her asking her to meet Adrien because that could jeopardize my identity as Cat Noir. You must be working with someone else…….Is it another kwami????"
Uh oh. This was dangerous territory. And Sugarcube had allowed him to do this, trusting that their identities would be kept secret.
"Let's not worry about the how--but the who. You've got a great girl right in front of you so stop pining over one who isn't into you."
"Well that was blunt Plagg, but you're right." Adrien headed out the door as Plagg trailed behind. Adrien was so focused on Marinette that he didn't even notice Plagg flying off to Tikki.
They were utterly hopeless. Adrien loved Ladybug, but also liked Marinette, although he was in denial. But they were literally the same person! Marinette on the other hand--from what he had gathered fromSugarcube--was head over heels stalker-level in love with Adrien, but not with him as Cat Noir, as evidenced by Ladybug's countless rejections. These idiots would never get together.
