This goes off of the deleted scene 2x16. If you haven't watched it, go watch it now. It will make more sense.
Playing cards, Derek is met with the light sound of footsteps creeping closer. He looks over to the end of the table to see the book Mother Night sitting there. He sees Emily standing over him, "Sorry…"
Derek chuckles, "No way." He flips the book over then back to the cover side, "No you didn't" Spencer looks up from his cards at Emily then at Derek. "Where did you find this?" Derek asks with a smile.
Email answers, "In the airport can you believe it?" She continues, "I haven't read this in like 12 years."
"Okay, that's funny," Derek points to her. "Chapter 3 is where it starts to get good." Derek mentions.
"Okay, I will let you know when I get there," Emily responds as Derek giggles.
Derek says softly, "Alright you do that." As Emily walks away, Spencer shakes his head. Emily sits down in a seat on the far side of the plane and Derek gets back to playing cards. Spencer tries to compose himself, Derek asks, "What? He finishes his thought, "Do you think you're the only person around here that reads books?"
Spencer replies, "No, but, uh, you never want to talk to me about books."
Derek glances at Emily, then back at Spencer, "You think I'm sending her the wrong kind of message."
Spencer peeks his head around the chair to see Emily reading. He leans in, "I have noticed you guys sitting next to each other in the round table and I've seen her hanging out at your desk. I just realized if I'm realizing this stuff, then it must be pretty darn obvious, right?"
Derek laughs. He responds quickly, "Okay, well, you know kid, normally I'd say you got yourself a really good point right there, but trust me, Emily Prentiss is not the kind of girl who's interested in Derek Morgan."
"What? What kind of girl isn't interested in Derek Morgan?" baffled Spencer asks.
In response, Derek answers, "The kind of girl who's way too smart to think she can change my ways. Everybody knows that I'm not ready to be serious."
"Maybe you're a lot more ready than you realize," Spencer leans back with his cards in his hand.
"Dr. Reid, are you really trying to school me on females right now?" Derek asks jokingly.
Spencer leans forward again, "My mother says that girls can sense when men are changing. When you're ready, certain types of girls, certain kinds of girls will find you. It's only when you're ready though."
Derek picks up another card, "You think I'm not on top of my game all of a sudden?"
"No, I'm just trying to distract you so I could take this card," Spencer picks up a card. He then places his cards on the table, "Gin."
In disbelief, Derek slaps the cards on the table, "Oh, you sneaky little bastard."
"When are you going to learn? Never play cards with a magician," Spencer defends his move.
Derek leans forward once again and smiles, "What do you mean, 'you people?'" The two laugh. Derek states, "I'm going to sleep. I am not playing another round."
"You just don't want to lose again," Spencer laughs and packs the cards up in the small box they came in. After hearing the ding to click their seatbelts in, Spencer wakes Derek up from his deep sleep, "Hey, sleepyhead, we landed."
Groggily Derek chases after Emily who has already unboarded the jet. As Emily opens the car door for a ride back to the office, Derek pops up, "Hey, do you want to maybe want to read the book together. Once you get to chapter 3, though."
"Sure," Emily takes a moment to agree. Emily mentions, "Like a book club?"
"Yea, like a book club. How is Friday at 7:30?" Derek asks politely. Emily nods then hops in the FBI car. Derek gets into the other car and rests his eyes once more.
Soon enough it is Friday, and Derek is frantically cleaning his place for Emily to join him. He hears the doorbell ring and runs to get in. He sees Emily, standing there with a bottle of wine and her book, "Come in, come in." Emily steps into his house, "We can sit here." He points to the couch.
Emily places the wine on the coffee table and gets comfortable on the couch. "You have a very nice house."
As Derek retrieves wine glasses, he replies, "Thank you. I stay here most of the time."
"Most of the time?" puzzled, Emily asks.
Derek answers as he sits down on his wobbly accent chair, "I fix houses to destress and to have an extra source of money."
Emily nods along, opens her book, and starts reading, as Derek pops the cork off the wine bottle. At around 10, they stop the book club. Emily puts her light jacket on and says goodbye, "It was really nice reading with you. Maybe next week we could do this again?"
"Absolutely!" Derek holds the door open for Emily. Emily waltzes out the door with her book and wine bottle. He watches her get into the car and drive off safely. Derek slumps on his couch and thinks, 'Damnit, Derek! You can't fall for her.'
Meanwhile, Emily is driving down his street and thinks, 'Good Lord, Emily. You can't love him."
