The man in the black coat reclined in his chair. He was sitting in front of a large computer with a multitude of monitors, each with a different scene and different people being shown. He seemed to be paying attention to one monitor in particular, on which a young man with spiky brown hair was struggling in a world filled with despair.

A beeping sound suddenly started, followed by a small red light blinking on the computer's control panel. The man sat up and scratched his hooded head in confusion. "Now what could that be?"

The man started looking around at the different monitors to see what was wrong. He stopped on one monitor that showed a silver-haired young man walking from a pink, crystalline portal into an area filled with nothingness. The young man stopped and looked around, visibly confused.

The man in the black coat sighed. "Great, now someone's trying to mess up my little experiment by playing hero. You don't know how to be a hero yet, Riku! Buuut… I think I know how to make you see just how hard being a hero is," said the man with a sneering voice. He tapped at the buttons on the console, and a blue crystalline portal appeared before the young man apparently named Riku.

...

In the area filled with nothing, Riku looked around to try and find a way to his friend. Is this Unreality? It's so… Empty, thought Riku as he tried to grasp the situation. He had just left the Fairy Godmother and Kairi to enter the Other Side in order to find, and save, his best friend: Sora. All Riku knew was that Sora had disappeared after using the power of waking to rescue Kairi, and that Riku was the only one who could save Sora.

Riku was startled by the appearance of a blue crystalline portal in front of him. He summoned his Keyblade instinctively and cautiously approached the portal to investigate. Besides the unique blue color, it seemed identical to the portal he had just gone through. It even seemed to be just as harmless.

Riku chuckled at himself. "I guess Sora really is rubbing off on me. Before we left the islands, I never would have jumped straight in like this." He held his Keyblade up and pointed it at the portal, taking one last look at the pink portal he had initially come through. Riku had an odd suspicion that it would be a while before he could go back to his world, or see any of his other friends. However, he had to do this to save Sora. The worlds would always need someone like that goofball. Kairi needed that goofball.

A thin ray of light shot from the tip of Riku's Keyblade to the blue portal, causing the crystalline structure to glow. Riku clutched his Keyblade tight and smirked as harsh light enveloped his surroundings. "It's always up to me to clean up after your messes and wake you up. Isn't it, Sora?"
