Interlude
Blistering sand swept across the desert. It was hot, irritating, and full of sand. Not that Kairi hated sand, she grew up on a tropical island after all. But it wasn't exactly good fighting weather. She thought that as she jumped into the air, avoiding the attack from the puppet.
Apparently, puppet ninjas were a real thing.
Kairi filled her Keyblade with chakra, before sending a slice through the chakra strings that powered and controlled it. The giant puppet fell apart lifeless. That gave Kairi a good look at the fallen contraption. The weapons and complicated moving parts of the puppet made it look more like a robot than a puppet.
Pinocchio did not have swords in his arms.
Kairi's attention was grabbed by the giant explosion. She ran towards it, was Naruto hurt?
They were sent on a mission to capture a rogue ninja named Mukare.
"… Go to the ruins of Loron," Tsunade instructed, "In the desert of the land of wind."
Kairi listened while Naruto played with his new sword. It was a chakra blade that grew in length if you added chakra. Everyone on the team got one, except Kairi. Her Keyblade already did that.
Kairi noticed Sakura snapping at Naruto and making him listen to the mission.
"As part of our pact with the sand, we'll capture the rogue ninja Mukade. Mukade is trying to get to the ley line."
"Ley lines are real?" Kairi asked. On other worlds ley lines were supposed to be legendary streams of power and magic that flowed through the planet.
"They do," Tsunade said, "There's one under Loron, the ley line is an immense source of chakra energy. It was sealed away by the Fourth Hokage's jutsu formula."
That grabbed Kairi's attention.
"Your orders are to protect that sealing formula with your lives."
Kairi had every intention of following through with those orders. The Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, was her father. He died the night she was born, protecting her and her twin brother Naruto. Sealing Nine-Tails in him and placing the key-seal on her.
His chakra activated in her seal already, and for a few precious minutes they talked. Kairi loved him. She wasn't going to let anyone ruin that formula.
Kairi spotted the rest of team seven, "Are you guys, okay?"
"Yeah, Naruto just forgot to use his chakra blade," Sakura sighed. Naruto looked embarrassed.
When the smoke cleared it revealed a huge hole in the ground.
"What's this big hole?" Naruto asked.
"Mukade's trying to get to the ley line," Captain Yamato reminded.
Kairi didn't waste any time she ran forward and jumped into the hole.
"Kairi!" The shouts of her teammates behind faded as the darkness engulfed her. As she fell, a giant staircase swirled around her, and soon a tower shot up next to her. Why was there a tower underground?
Kairi didn't have time to wonder that, she needed to slow her descent. Deciding to use chakra chains, she shot them out of her arm. The glowing chain shot around the tower, causing Kairi to swing around until she landed on the ground.
"Now where's that ley line."
"Kairi!" Kairi looked up to see one of Sai's giant birds fly down, carrying team seven.
"At least wait for us," Naruto said as he jumped off.
"Sorry, got excited," Kairi said.
"Let's go," Yamato commanded. They ran down a corridor into a giant room, it was as big as the Coliseum. At the center on a small platform, connected only by a small stone bridge was some kind of altar, surrounded by four statues. At the center was Kunai, Kairi recognized.
Dad.
One of the last things of her father was in front of her. Along with the jutsu formula inscribed into the floor. Kairi wanted to get a closer look, was it an Uzumaki formula?
"Is that it?" Naruto asked.
"That's it," Yamato confirmed, "That's the Fourt Hokage's sealing formula."
Everyone gasped, when a figure suddenly appeared, walking towards the kunai.
"Mukade," Sai realized.
The small pale man turned to face them, "Well it looks like you're too late to stop my plans. I'll possess the power of the ley line and use it to fuel my puppet jutsu. And I shall rule over not just the Five Great Nations, but the entire universe."
Kairi almost laughed at that statement. She had to bite back a retort about how there were thirteen people who could easily stop him. She had to maintain the world order after all.
"I highly doubt it," Yamato called, "You'll never break the seal the Fourth Hokage placed upon it."
"Oh yes," Mukade said as crouched in front of the kunai, "I'm well aware of that," Kairi glowered. What was he going to do to her father's seal? He formed some handsigns before placing his hands the ground, "I'll just absorb the sealing formula."
"I won't let you," Kairi shouted as she ran ahead. Suddenly the ground started to glow a s the writing began to absorb into his skin.
"Kairi!" Naruto ran behind her to help.
Once his body was covered in writing. He grabbed the kunai and began to pull it free.
"Get away from that!" Kairi screamed. But it was too late. Once the kunai was free, light erupted from the ground, engulfing everything. Kairi had to stop, something told her they didn't want to get caught up in that.
Naruto knew that too. He grabbed Kairi's hand and started to run the other way, nearly dragging his sister behind him. But light grew out, it began to break everything in it's path. Including the ground, they were running on. Soon Kairi was lifted into the air the light grabbed her.
"Kairi!" Naruto tried to pull her free, but he was getting pulled in too.
"Wood style: giant forest!" Yamato tried to save them both. His wood style wrapped around Naruto, but it was too late. Both Uzuamki twins were pulled in, along with Captain Yamato.
I know it's short, but it's too good a cliff hanger.
