Author's Note - Hey all! This is my first story that I am posting and I am doing this as a hobby. I will try and update every other week but don't count on it as I have an extremely busy schedule in my life between School and Work. Constructive Criticism is very much appreciated, just don't be a dick, honestly, I don't care if you are but it still is annoying. If any of the writing from Percy's pov sounds childish it's because he is an 8-year-old, the way he speaks and tells will improve as he gets older. Anyways please enjoy my attempt at an OP Percy fic, Percy will be extremely cracked in this fic and maybe a bit OOC but it is what it is. Now sit back, relax, and enjoy this ride. Also, I own nothing but my own OCs, Plot, and Ideas, everything else belongs to Uncle Rick.
The Jackson Lineage: Chapter 1 - I Go to Summer Camp for the First Time
"Perseus Achilles Jackson!" I flinched as my mother yelled my full name, "that is the fifth time you have broken the vase young man! No more magic today, it's time for your greek lessons." My mother scolded me sternly, casting a spell to fix the broken vase.
Oh wait, I should probably explain. My name is Perseus Achilles Jackson but I go by Percy, I am 8 years old, I have ADHD and Dyslexia, and I live with my Mom in our family manor. My grandparents died before I was born and I have never met my dad. My Mom also home schools me as I learn pretty unconventional things like magic and ancient greek, and I know I sound insane, but there's a reason for this. You see, the greek "myths" are real, meaning greek gods, monsters, and heroes and my family happens to be descended from the Greek goddess Hecate. In order to "educate" me for the greek world, I have been training and studying since I could hold a book.
My curriculum contains 9 Subjects, 'Study & Understanding of Greek Myths', 'Sword Training', 'Combat Strategy', 'Ancient Greek', 'Magic', and of course the "normal" mortal education of English, Maths, History, and Science. My Mom of course teaches me the first five subjects but I go to a private tutoring center for the normal courses where the best teachers money can buy teach. There I study with my best friend R.E.D. or Rachel Elizabeth Dare, daughter of some super-rich businessman who owns the company Dare Enterprises. Now you must be wondering how I can attend this rich-people stuff, well that's cause my family has a bunch of old money from almost 9 generations ago. We are rich but between my mother and me, we don't spend a lot, that's why Red and I became friends, she hates what her father does because it destroys the environment and we both hate snobby rich kids so it all works out.
"Earth to Percy, are you there honey?' I hear a voice calling to me.
"Huh, wha- oh…" Startled, I looked around and saw my Mom just staring at me, realizing I blanked out. I blushed, I try not to space out too often when training but my concentration just slips, it is hard to focus sometimes. "Sorry Mom, got distracted." I chuckled, giving her an innocent smile.
My mother sighed, shaking her head, "What am I going to do with you Percy," she looked up into my eyes with a bright smile and continued, "want to take a break, I need to talk to you about some things anyway."
I ran up to her and gave her a big hug. "Sure Mom! Thanks for being so nice." I said squeezing her tightly, she patted my head and I went to pack my bag. This was my favorite part about homeschooling, my Mom being the amazing, considerate, and kind woman she always adjusts my schedule so that I am learning at peak performance. I never ran on a super tight schedule but I still did have to get things done by a set time.
My Mom brought out a bag as we walked over to the balcony at the edge of the study room, I could immediately smell the blue cookies, my mouth started watering. I ran to the seat and set the table to get some good grub. "Hurry Mom, I'm Hungry!" My stomach, being the greatest wingman ever, growled in agreement.
My Mom smiled as she punned, "Hi hungry, I'm Mom." I rolled my eyes in response, still smirking at my mom's terrible humor. She set on the table a plate of blue sandwiches, some blue juice, and a small bowl with a couple of blue cookies. You may want to ask me "why the blue?" and you are right to be curious, but I won't tell you I'm too hungry.
I reached my hand to pick up a Blue Sandwich and my Mom started to speak. "Percy, honey, I said I wanted to tell you something, right?" As I took a bite out of my Blue Sandwich I nodded in response. "You know how a long long time ago there was a man who had a kid with the Greek goddess Hecate and we are their great great great and so on grandchildren?" She asked rhetorically, continuing. "Well Percy, there were actually a few other of our ancestors who were gods, demi-gods, and legacies."
I swallowed the remainder of my sandwich, "You mean to tell me, that I, no, we have more cool powers!" I said in awe.
"Yes Percy," as she began, she lifted her hand, and electricity sparked through it, "we have lots and lots of cool powers, but that's why we have to be very careful. More power always means more danger, more danger means more monsters and trouble." She looked extremely serious so I knew to keep this at heart. "We may be legacies of many gods but you Percy are even more special, you see, you are also a demi-god so you are much more powerful than the average legacy. I can't tell you who he is but you will find out very, very soon." She continued and I kept my full attention on her. "Can you tell me what you know about the teacher of heroes?"
I was still a little shocked at all these revelations, so it took me a minute. "You mean the Centaur Chiron? The guy who taught all the greats from Heracles to Achilles?"
Mom nodded and began to speak again, "Chiron along with the rest of the Greek world has migrated here in New York. He trains many demi-gods and legacies in a place called 'Camp Half-Blood'." I nodded with my eyes wide, not wanting to believe what I was assuming. "You will be attending Camp Half-Blood after our week trip to Montauk this summer." I was staring at my mom with my mouth open, not even thinking about the blue cookies I have been wanting to eat all week.
Snapping myself out of my bewilderment I gulped quite audibly, "that's cool." I said quite anti-climatically, after all, I didn't trust my mouth at the moment. We ended up eating in silence, I was processing everything, I've wanted to meet others like me for a long time and now it was actually happening.
LINE/BREAK
The next three weeks passed by before I could blink I barely even remembered our trip to Montauk, and we were heading to camp. My mother and I drove up the hill and parked, she walked me over to the big house and called out, "Chiron! You there!" The next thing I know I saw a white stallion walking out but it wasn't a stallion because right, where a horse's neck should be, was the torso of a man I've seen in many books. I tilted my head upwards and I saw the face of a middle-aged man with a kind smile.
"Oh good morning Sally, I haven't seen you in a few years, is this your son you wrote to me about?" He looked at me with somewhat calculating eyes and quite a bit of recognition, it felt as if he had known me since before I was born.
"You're actually THE Chiron, the teacher of heroes, I have wanted to meet you for a really, really, really long time!" The excitement in my voice, quite evident, he smiled. "My name is Percy Jackson and I wanna be a great hero one day!" I announced beaming at him as I extended my arm out to him for a handshake.
Chiron kneeled down and extended his hand to me and shook my hand with a force I didn't expect. "I'm looking forward to the day I get to see you become a great hero." He smiled confidently but there was a little sadness in his eyes. I don't know why but I got the feeling he was worried. "Well Percy," he started, "I will let you get introduced to camp, we'll have Annabeth show you around ok?" he called over a girl around my age and asked her to show me around, I hugged my mom and we walked away.
"So, your name is Annabeth, right? I'm Percy, it's nice to meet you!" I introduced myself to the blond girl, she then looked over at me staring into my eyes.
"It's nice to meet you too Percy, say how did your mom get into camp?" I realized she was the curious type but her gaze could be intimidating, I made a mental note to not keep anything from her unless I wanted some leverage.
"My mother and I are legacies, that means our ancestors were demi-gods. I thought there might be some around here. I guess it makes sense though legacies don't get attacked by monsters too often and many demi-gods don't even get to their twenties." I rambled, I often do that and it's a little embarrassing. She just nodded in response, her eyes, stormy gray just looked elsewhere, I got the feeling she didn't like me too much. "So," wanting to get rid of the awkward silence, "who's your godly parent?" I asked.
She grinned widely and looked at me with a large sense of pride. "My mother is Athena, goddess of wisdom, battle strategy, owls, and more!" she practically yelled. We continued walking for another minute before we stopped.
I looked around and saw the cabins, there were only 12, one for each of the Olympians, and a third of them were empty. "That's weird." Annabeth stared at me with a quizzical look. "Zeus, his cabin is empty." I pointed to the first and most dramatically lavish cabin. "Isn't he the god known for prancing around and having kids with anyone half decent looking?" Thunder rumbled in the distance.
"Percy! You can't just insult the king of the gods like that, you idiot! You are so lucky, you haven't been smitten yet!" She looked at me as if I was crazy, bewildered at my insolence.
"What, it's true, isn't it? Can you just answer my question?" I rolled my eyes, I didn't care.
Annabeth huffed in response, she then explained, "The Big Three, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, all swore on the River of Styx to not have any more demi-god children after World War 2, their kids were too powerful and caused too much destruction when they fought against one another." I understood that now but I was quite sure that oath wouldn't last long especially for Zeus.
"Ok that makes sense, but I have another question, why are there only cabins for the Olympians? Why don't Hades, Hestia, and the minor gods and goddesses have cabins?" I asked with some sadness in my voice. I could have sworn I saw a little girl in my peripheral vision smile but as soon as I noticed her she disappeared again.
"Honestly, I don't know, I never thought about that. Maybe it's because there are too many gods and goddesses, maybe it's because there is the only custom to respect the Olympians. Whatever it is I will check with Chiron, you can come along too after all you brought it up, it isn't right there are so many kids in the Hermes cabin that seem rejected." She made that face again, whenever she was thinking hard about something I noticed she scrunched her eyebrows and bit her lip. "Anyway's Percy, for now, you will stay in the Hermes Cabin, he and his kids are kind enough to host the unclaimed kids and children of minor gods." She walked forward a bit and peeked into the door, she took notice of someone and brought them over. "Percy, this is Luke. Luke, I know you aren't the Cabin Counselor but could you show Percy around? I don't really know anyone in this cabin beside you."
"Sure, Annie. Come on Percy I'll drag you away from Ms. Smarty Pants here and show you around the cabin." The older kid, Luke, said as he patted Annabeth's head. They seemed to be like brothers and sisters. He had sandy blond hair and blue eyes and looked pretty strong. His smile was kind and genuine.
"Hey!" Annabeth punched Luke with slight force in the ribs, "I told you not to call me Annie, or Smarty Pants!" After that outburst, she walked away in a huff.
Luke winced a little while putting his hand where she punched him, "I swear that girl doesn't know her own strength. C'mon Percy I'll show you to your cot." He motioned for me to follow him.
"So Luke," I began, "how did you meet Annabeth?" I questioned.
His smile fell a little and he looked at me seriously, "Listen, Percy, it's kind of a sensitive topic for Annabeth and me but we met on our way to camp, I honestly don't know if I can tell you more than that. It was a painful experience." His voice croaked and I could have sworn he was about to cry.
I looked at him with worry. "That's fine Luke, everyone has things they don't want to talk about, bad experiences, painful memories, and such. Thanks for not getting mad at me for landing on a touchy subject." I spoke with all the extra sincerity I could muster, I really wanted him to know I meant no harm.
"It's alright Percy you're a good kid, don't let anyone take that from you." He patted me on the back. We stopped in front of a small single-sized bed, I placed my suitcase down next to the bed and remembered that Hermes was the god of thieves and was quite the mischievous fellow. I tossed on a couple of trap incantations on my bed and suitcase. "You sure you want to just leave your stuff there Percy, it might get stolen."
I looked at him with a smug face and said, "Let them try." and chuckled as I walked off. "Hey Luke, you fight with a sword right?" taking a look at his muscles the ones in his arms looked the most pronounced along with his shoulders, back, and chest. He also had quite the leg muscles but they seemed to be formed mostly from running.
"Yeah, how did you know?" He asked, genuinely confused.
"A magician never reveals his secrets. Just kidding, your muscles give it away, care for a spar?" I suggested, hoping he would say yes. I have never sparred with anyone before, most of my sword fighting learning came from my mom and books.
"Sure Percy, just know I won't go easy on you." He grinned and I won't lie, it was unsettling how intimidating he was. I'm just glad he is on my side. I beamed at him and motioned for him to show me to the courtyard.
And there you have it, Chapter 1 of this new fic. I will try and update Bi-Weekly but no promises. I will definitely have at least one chapter done every month but I'm a busy guy with a busy life. Constructive criticism would be very much appreciated. I have big plans for this story and Ideas that are completely original. I might integrate some of the other mythologies earlier but I wouldn't count on it since I haven't read the Kane Chronicles and Demi-God Files in a while. Please leave a review and let me know what you thought and if you enjoyed drop a follow or favorite! :D
