Shared Scars.
It was very clear in the hundred stories: if you get a scar, your soulmate would inevitably have the same scar, in the exact same place, although this only applied after said scar finished healing.
Kohaku was very happy when she saw that the wound on Chrome's hand had finished healing and immediately, the same scar appeared on Ruri's hand. It was always obvious to her that there was something between those two, even though she was now forced to demand of Chrome to not be hurting himself every two or three days. Because if he covered the beautiful, well-cared skin of her sister with scars, Kohaku would kill him.
Kohaku herself was someone who tended to hurt herself a lot, but no matter how much she observed the kids of the village, none of them shared the same scars as hers, which was a bit disappointing, but over the years she stopped paying attention to it. There were more urgent things, like that terrible illness of her beloved sister, of course.
And suddenly, one day, she woke up with two damn cracks on her face, going down her forehead, her eyelids and a little below her eyes, grazing her cheeks. Two very similar cracks, one across each eye.
"Someone attacked my soulmate with two knives or what? These scars are very strange" she complained while looking at her reflection in a river.
"They look pretty cool to me. You look like a much scarier gorilla that way."
After hitting Chrome several times on the head, Kohaku looked back at her reflection with concern.
She hoped the love of her life hadn't been blinded or something like that... Although she also hoped those scars weren't permanent, she didn't feel like they fit her very well.
.
After a few months of being depetrified, Senku felt like he was gaining a new scar almost daily. Small and not very long-lasting in most cases, but it did make him wonder what the hell his soulmate was supposedly doing.
Was it revenge for the horrible scars left by the depetrification?
Did his soulmate spend her time fighting bears, wolves, or whatever?
At least it was a relief to know that he was not the only depetrified human, the truth was that it was comforting when the first scar appeared on him, and others kept coming, showing him that the person who was "his person" was still very active in this stone world.
She was probably someone who had also been depetrified by sheer willpower, and was likely more of a survivor than he was.
He was never interested in his soulmate but in this context... Now he really wanted to meet her.
He chuckled at the thought that he already had someone to repopulate the earth with in case he could never find a way to depetrify the statues.
How ridiculous. Of course he was going to find a way. And soon he would also find a way to meet his soulmate and, together, reclaim civilization.
The End.
