1. Chapter 1

Prolouge

" Are you sure that she can do that ?"
" Yes. She will be obedient"

That conversation 12 years ago changed your life in 1 hour. Before that you were a happy go lucky girl who lived with her dad in the other regions of the Wall Maria. You usually spent your days hunting, eating or playing. But your dads , a hunter known throughout the rich and noble for providing fur, died and you became a pawn.

" okay ı will take her if she learns how to fight , how to protect and how to kill "

You were a natural in fighting because of days hunting with your dad . But his words would always came to your mind everytime you were instructed to kill " Never kill the child , the parent and the unprotected "

After years of hard training, you were the ultimate weapon.

Chapter 2:

You wake up around 4 am as the sun was illuminating your room after a lon night. Letting the water boiled while you went to take a quick shower. After getting ready and drinking your tea , you left your so called house . You never considered that small place as nothing more than a place to sleep eat and shower. You walked pass the flity streets and observe the people. It amazed you to see the sudden change between the sides of the city where the rich was the god and the poor was the ant. Normally the streets would be filled with people going to work children playing on the streets and the women started to cleaning , but today it was calmer with less people in sight. While walking with your normal speed , you saw that the majority of the people whose face you know was either not here or acting a bit strange . Without showing any change anything on your face or actions you kept walking until you saw the huge house where your master lives. The house was a 3 stores mansion within tall walls. You stopped in front of the huge metal door with golden motives on it , while acting like you were trying to find the key but actually trying to understand if someone was following you. But you couldn't be obvious. Walking a bit faster to the grand mansion within a huge garden . You tried to hear strange sounds but there were none , which made you think harder. You tried to list the names of the possibly people who might attack. They were either nobles or underworld lords. The nobles were never a problem with much treat because you knew that they were too into themselves and trusted that they had the best soldiers but the reality was always the opposite. If the problem was the underworld lords, you were sure that they wouldn't send their best man which meant that it was no problem for you. Even if they send their best of best you had the advantage because of the location.

Before entering the amazing house you check the lock and the door to control if there was something strange. Although it was a everyday thing to you, you felt a strange tension in your mind. " Something is wrong" . Trying to be logical was your method of life but you never underestimated your senses.

" Your senses are your other eyes "

You walked to the big dinning hall where an old man was sitting.

" Good morning sir" you said while bending the knee. He looked at you with indifference. While he was talking about today's programme and giving you orders, you felt that something wasn't right. You stand up quickly which made the old man look at you irritated but also in shock . You never moved your eyes from the floor with out permission let alone standing up.

" Master where is Drane ?" you said respectfully but in a ice cold tone. Drane was his right hand man who was always around. You also sensed that there was no maids in sight which was unusually in a mansion with 50 or more maids. Your master sensed that your were suspicions.

" Calm down. I send him to the city to handle with something. Why do you want to know? " He was now looking at your face trying to understand the reason of your strange actions. You looked straight in his ice cold blue eyes with certainty.

" Something is strange, Master. Dane is gone and there are no maids in sight. I sense that something isn't right " His faced changed as he heard your words. He wouldn't care about your thoughts if it were 6 years ago but after saving him countless times and never being wrong about anything you said. He stood up from his golden chair with ease . Although his old age he was an energetic man which you always were happy knowing that ıt would be more problematic if he was sick.

" What is your suggestion X." Hearing the last letter ,which was your name after becoming this loyal dog to your master, made you grid your teeth. But you kept your voice as the same : Calm , clear and without emotions. .

" We need to leave. I think that something is going on and it is different for the usual threats we deal with" He looked at you with a calm face and frightened eyes. You knew that this man might looked like an old noble with all the time in the world but looks are deceiving. It was same for his master too. He always had something to do with everything going on. He would move the people with huge power in high positions like he was their puppet master. You always knew that one day he would be caught and you have to either die saving him or be killed by the people after they kill him. But ıt didn't changed anything for you. You weren't scared or frightened . Actually you didn't feel anything. The old man knew that and shook his head agreeing what you said. You turned to go to the east wing where the basement and the dungeons were located. You understanding that one day you would be against an enemy whose power was impossible to deal with , suggested to make a tunnel for escaping.

" ı knew that you would be a problem." You turned and looked at the door connecting the room with the kitchen. There was a blond man standing. You knew him ... Erwin Smith , the commander of the Survey Corps and one of the best , if not the best , soldier in the military who was known by his unparalleled skills as an tactician. You sighed because this meant that you were probably surrounded by Atlas 100 soldiers and he was also here. You smiled which made your master look at you believing that you lost your mind. But to his suprise you answered him calmly with a sarcastic tone

" Why dint you let the dogs fight Commander? Yours against me ?" You weren't scared which made him laugh. He knew that you weren't a match for his right hand but your instinct to do your duty was worth an applause. He would normally respect you for your strength but not to today. Today there was no place to possible treats.

" You are strong but no. Give him over or we will get him. I promise the latter wont be nice" You sensed that he wasn't relaxed. If he thought that you were in their palm, he might joke or even let you fight but he didn't. He didn't had the face of a man who was confidant which meant that ...

" Oh Commander, I appreciate your thoughts. Actually appreciate your concerns" you talked while walking. You looked around. Probably his man were all around the house and the roof. But you didn't see any movement outside. Which meant that he placed the majority of his men inside.

" But thanks Commander. I never surrender but you knew that - so- Why bother to ask when you can kill me now?" You sensed that your master was getting uneasy with each second. He knew that staying silent and letting you analyze the situation was the best . He was short tempered like the majority of the noblemen and ıt always led to more problem. The Commander Erwin sensed that too. He was known to be a good at reading the situations and seeing the possibilities. You knew that first hand when the Female Titan and the Titan boy from his Crop fight in the city. He not only handled the treat of a titanshifter and a spy but also secured his position. You knew that your time was running out too .

" Because we don't want to deal with you. That man behind you - Duke Alston is under-arrest for plotting years with the fake king and being a major part of his plotting. So step aside and let us do our job" Your face was still without any expression which shocked him. Anyone hearing these words would be shocked and not know what to do. ' Are you also a part of this ?' thought Erwin but knowing the nobility treat their soldiers like dogs answered his thoughts.

Hearing those words made one thing clear to you. You are in a big trouble and need to leave this place as soon as possible. You could-

"Commander Erwin ı don't know what you are speaking of but you are overstepping here. I am the second most powerfully person in this country. I will see you and your entire corps beheaded" said Duke Alston which meant that you are out of time. Erwin smiled when he heard the threats which made you believe that you wasn't lying. Shit - this means that the old bastard is powerless.

" Wanna bet Duke Alston. I am sure th- " you cut his sentence with your sharp words
" I don't care Commander. Anyways ıt was nice to meat you if you excuse us now." After you finished your sentence you grab the arm of the Duke and ran to the window. Breaking the window with your jump you pulled the old bastard with you. You were right he positioned a few soldier here while focusing his main power in the house and the roof. You dodged the bullets to your best while covering for the Duke. Knowing that the soldiers outside the house would be moving towards you, you hide behind in the rose garden just outside the house. The distance between the garden and the little forest would take 10 minutes of running but they would be free targets and shot to the death .

" Master we run to the east. I will try to cover for us. Until we get outside the range of the guns we need to be carefully. After that run while ı try to buy us sometime. Go to the lake and use the boat. Drane would know something is wrong because no new orders." He looked at you scared knowing the plan will most likely to fail and the possibility of being killed is nearly certain . But knowing that you would do anything to keep him safe he agreed. You moved slowly to the east while taking cover and he followed your steps.

" STOP WHERE YOU ARE " . You cursed under your breath. They are much more fast than you thought. You stand up and run to the nearest soldier. While fighting you tried to keep your distance close with the enemy knowing that they wouldn't risk shooting their own. ' Their numbers are that high. Not everyone is suicidal ı think ' you thought while chopping the head of someone. You felt nauseated everytime the blood of someone else is on you hands. But you had no time to think because your time until Erwin's dog catch you is limited.
You looked at the old bastard he is nearly out the range which gave you hope. You ran towards him. Maybe , you two would make it ou-

" I catched you brat " when you heard the words your blood froze. You pushed the Duke telling him not to stop. You turned around .
" I always knew that we would meet one day." you said while looking straight to Levi Ackermann. Humanity's Strongest - the name made you always laugh but deep down you knew that ıt was true. He as a member of the Ackerman clan was very strong even for an Ackerman. You knew that the Duke thought to get him as his guard but that was impossible. The clan was nearly extinct and Levi , a person born and spend his youth in Underground , would never be as obedient or trusted as you are.
" Tch brat. Move and let me catch him. I am not in mood for killing you" he said being annoyed that you were clever enough to run away to a place where he wouldn't be able to use his ODM . Which meant that if he wanted to fight ıt would be a hand to hand combat.
"No" You didn't know ıf you would be able to take him down. The fight was full of unknowns. You took a deep breath and closed your eyes for a second to clear your mind . Put your right and left fist before your body. move your left foot forward . Right one is one step behind it. Your body moved itself to get in the position to fight. Levi understood that you weren't going to change your mind and positioned himself for fight. He was calm knowing that the rest of the soldiers are going to be here in 5 minutes and the old bastard wont make it far in that time. Erwin was also a genius because he positioned some of the best soldiers of his squad , like Mikasa in the forest. He remembered Erwin's words

' She isn't an ordinary guard be carefully. She might create problem for use '. And you were. You not only killed 20 soldiers on your own but also manage to see trough Erwin's plan and come up with a one in less than 5 minutes. ' Whatever ... I will end you here and now' he though before striking you . Dodging some of your moves ans striking when you see an opening both of you tired to analyze eachother. Unfortunately Levi was the first one to find one. So he tired to make you go for a strike which would create the best opening for his attack and he was right. You found yourself on your back and in a deadlock. You struggled for a second faking to struggle to move your body in position for kicking you in the head. Fighting both the guards of the nobles and the dogs of the Underground assholes thought you not only how to get out situations like this but also learn new techniques too. Your kick was strong enough to make Levi bleed.

"Hey Captian we cought him!" Yelled Mikasa dragging the old man behind her. You looked where the sound came from. The bastard was either unconscious or death. Levi smirked knowing that the fight ended and you lost. But you felt the anger rising inside you .

I spent my life trying to save this motherfucker.

You strike Levi and although he was unprepared he blocked you. You felt that there were 50 or more soldiers are coming to where you are in less than a minute.

" Tch. So be it. I wont die without fighting." Anger, hate and feeling the cold breath of death , you gave your all while striking Levi. Knowing the end is near, you atleast wanted to have a great fight before dying. You were bleeding so was Levi when you saw the soldiers were surrounded and felt a sharp pain. The last thing you saw was the blue sky.

" It ıs a good day to die" you though before you sink down in to the blackness.

Chapter 3 Choice

Is this the end ?

I survived through everything for this ?

At least the sky was beautiful .

Dad would say that ıt is a good day to hunt .

You opened your eyes. Shocked and unbelieving you tried to sit. Your head was hurting but you paid no attention to the pain and looked around you trying to understand where are you. The room was small without many furniture and the sun shined through the big windows. You heard the birds and people talking outside. ' Where am ı ?' you thought while trying to get up. You torso was covered with bandages and your right leg was hurting as hell. As you tired to take a step the door opened and Erwin and a doctor walked in.

" So you woke up. I though that you would be asleep for at least a day." he said surprised. You looked at him straight in the eyes.

" Where am ı and why am ı not dead? " you went straight to the point suggestions that you are not interested in the irrelevant topics. He put his hand up to tell the doctor to leave . Your calm state and straightness weren't normal and he knew that. Normally you should be shocked but you weren't. He smiled and said

" You are our guest at the HQ. As for why we didn't kill you ... I thought that you might be useful for us" So they thought that you might know anything you though which made you smile. That bastard used you as a weapon and nothing more. Seeing you not saying anything made Erwin guess what you were thinking.

" We know that you don't know anything about The Duke and his plans. We are just interested in you. You are not a soldier from the military but you are the guard of one of the most powerful man in this country. Now that the Duke is dead you are the only person to tell us the reason" He knew about you which wasn't the best for you. The bastard is also death which gave you the chill. They could have killed you too but they didn't. Instead they tended your wounds.

' ıt ıs weird ' you thought .Keeping your calmness and suspicion you wondered about his motives and said :

" What if ı am not? I was trained personally by the orders of the Duke. I had the normal training of a normal soldier so even though ı am not really a part of the military ." This was for your advantage because you know that they cant judge you by the military law. If you were a part of the military they would execute you without a trial but now they cant. You knew that you could argue that they threatened you all this time and know nothing about the truth which isn't all a lie.

" Oh we know that. You see we know everything about you. Your past, your training and your life. You can think that not being a soldier might save you but you killed 23 of my soldiers so we can simply execute you without a trial. Even with a trial you were the quad of the Duke and now that he is gone there is none to save you ." That is true and you knew it. But then why would they didn't kill you ? Instead of thinking the possible answers you asked .

" Then why didn't you kill me ? You could kill me but saved me using your resources on me when you could use it for a soldier dying. That doesn't make sense. Are you going to tell me or we should play more word games ?" said patiently. Either you could learn his motives or buy yourself some time to come up with a plan.

" We want you to be a part of the Survey Corp. You have some skills and ı would be sad to kill someone like you just because of that bastard who called himself a Duke." he said as he read your mind. Waiting you to argue or talk back you staid still. He was now very curious of you. Your actions or behavior weren't the same of a normal soldier let alone a normal person.

" So you are here blackmailing me. Telling me that ı will be executed if ı deny and giving me an option which would be beneficial for both of us. I know that Survey Corps that's criminals. You are in need of soldiers considering you lost many because of the Female Titan." said as you analyzed the situation. He laughed which shocked you.

"I knew that the bastard Alston would have a great weapon and ı am happy that ı was Roth. So what you say to my offer? Die because of a bastard or save humanity?" You laughed when you heard the last words.

"Save humanity? Commander ı am touched by for naivety and idealist view. I accept it for surviving." said directly looking at his blue eyes. He wasn't a cruel person which you knew before hand. You respected him for coming up with a plan and killing the motherfucker Alston. Knowing how secure his house is and still being able to kill him meant that this man was strong which earned your respect. Showing that you surrender you sat down on the bed and said while looking out of the window

" I respect strong people and you are one Commander. So ı will accept your offer. I will do anything ı am ordered but ı dint care for the humanity. I am neither the most idealistic nor the humanistic person in the world. If you can take me as ı am then ı am in " you said in a cold voice as you stated the truth. Looking back at Erwin you saw that he wasn't shocked . He shocked his head and said in a straight voice

" From now on you are a part of Survey Corps. After you are healed you will be examined on your skills and then be put in a squad. That is all" showing that this talk has ended. You stand up and saluted him which made him shocked . He shocked his head and left the room.

" So now ı am part of the Survey Corps. Would you ever believe that dad?"

Erwin left the room and saw Levi standing next to the door. He knew that Levi wouldn't left him alone with a girl as skilled who was fighting against him just a few hours ago. Although Levi wasn't a fan of letting her in the Survey Corps deep down he knew that the potential and the strength the girl had.

So what did she said?" he asked although he knew the answer. Erwin who just talked another emotionless person looked at his friend. Levi was a former criminal who become the proud of the Survey Corps and Erwin valued his thoughts more than anything. Him asking about this meant that he accepted her but had his suspicions.

" She said yes. When she is recovered we will test her. But seeing who well she frighted with you and her skills not only as a fighter but also as a tactician is enough to know that she will pass. But Levi ı cant trust her yet. She has neither a purpose nor any emotions. You saw her too. She is as cold as an ice which means that she can be unpredictable. So ı though she should be a part of your squad." Levi moved her sight from the ground to Erwin's face. He understood the reasons but that didn't mean that he was happy with the decision. He shook his head and said

" We cant let her stay with others too. She might run away. Erwin ı will go by with your plan but if she ever tries to run away or kill anyone ı will kill her unlike today. Know that" as he finished his sentence Levi left Erwin. Levi was angry and shocked today. He never met anyone who was able to fight against him that well which made him acknowledge her skills. Which made him doubt her was her coldness. He could be also calm in dangerous situations but seeing someone who would stay calm and make a plan which was nearly successfully made him uneasy. He remembered what Erwin told him yesterday : ' She was the daughter of a hunter who was know for his skills and providing fur to the nobles. After his death , she was trained by Alston. She has been his guard for a long time and defeated not only soldiers of the nobles but also very powerfully men from Underground. She trained also as a military soldier although not being an official one. She is strong and dangerous, Levi. Although we know this much about her none knows her real name . She is called X'. Levi cursed and walked to the training ground where his squad has been training. Seeing their captain coming they stopped and got in line. Levi stooped confront of them.

" The girl from today's mission will be a member of our squad" he said expecting many of them to talk back or not to accept the news and he was right. Eren shouted in an angry tone

" Why Captain? SHE IS AN ENEMY ?! HOW - " Mikasa sensing Erin's outburst might get him in trouble she hit him making him shout up . Connie and Sasha who are to hungry to argue paid no attention while Jean , Reiner , Berthold and Armin discusses the news between themselves, Levi feels himself getting irritated.

"Ch brats shut up. I am not a fan of this plan but she is strong and Erwin thinks that she might be usefully. We all will keep an eye on her. She should be fine in few days and assign to us. Until then ı want everyone continue everything as usual. But ıf you sense or see something unusual you will report to me. No exceptions . If ı am not there go straight to Erwin. Understood? " Everyone shouted " yes sir" . Seeing them understood the orders you sighed and let them go to the lunch. Levi never have been the one to hope but this time you looked at the hospital wing and hope that his fears were nothing important. After fighting with you today, ıt was clear that the stupid girl could take the whole squad with ease even with Erin's Titan form. Levi let pushed these thoughts away as he walked slowly to the big hall to get something to eat while he was doing the paperwork's which he hated the most.

Having your days staying in your bed while the doctors checked up on you and eating was unusual to you. Before you would only take a day of when you were seriously injured . If you were able to walk the Duke wanted you at his side. You knew that he was paranoid and now you understood why. You looked outside.

' he is dead? ' You thought about this many times but always saw yourself either dead or being killed. The reason wasn't that you cared for the bastard , you were thought that. From a young age you were trained to save or protect him. But now he was dead and you weren't. You didn't feel any remorse or guilt. Expecting that his plots and plans would one day lead him to death you were prepared for this but the thing you weren't was your life after his death. You ate, sat , lived - heck even breath by his orders. Now having him gone gave you a sense of freedom. But you knew too well that Erwin was his new master. Even he wasn't like Alston you were another ones pawn . Different masters , same role. However Erwin wasn't the type to use someone for his means. He was a commander and would use his soldiers as a pawn but he wasn't the one who can control a persons life. You were suspecting some twists and knew that Levi would be a part of this too. You already knew that you were above average of a normal soldier but this morning show you that there were at most a handful of people in the Survey Corps who is at your level and Levi was certainly one of them. So knowing how much Erwin trusted Levi and how protective Levi of Erwin was you guess that you would be in Levi's squad. You smiled as you remembered sensing Levi outside during the conversation with Erwin.

" So you are an obedient dog too Levi. That's interesting" It actually amused you. You planned to understand everyone near Erwin as your priority. If you want to survive you need to know the people with power. Alston thought you this very well. Your thoughts went to Drano. She never had any loyalty to the Alston but you knew that Drano had. He might be a problem when he learned that you now a part of the Survey Corps. He would probably kill you and you knew that. He threatened you many times before and you respected him for his loyalty for the bastard. Although you weren't the person who would have any kind of loyalty you knew that earning such a trust of someone is difficult. While you were thinking the nurse came in. She was a lovely girl around 18 with long brownish hair.

" I am going to take the bandages out now and then the Commander Erwin is going to test you in 2 hours." As she came near. So you had 2 hours to change , eat and get ready. It sounded nice to you. But your previous thoughts were still in your mind and you looked at the nurse as she removed your bandages. Remembering how she blushed everytime she mentioned Erwin you thought that you mirth use her feelings and deliver a note to Erwin. You weren't still sure about if Erwin was your master, but you respected him and felt in depth for saving your life. You said in a fake warm tone to not scare the girl

" I want to write a note to the Commander and warn him about a danger. Would you be kind enough to let me ? I know ıf ı ask the doctor or the others they might not let me or it might be late. I dint want to see the Commander in danger" You added the last part to make the girl think that she might save him which worked like a wonder. As you finished your sentence you could see the fear in her eyes. She agreed and let you write the letter promising deliver it as soon as she gets out from the door.

Seeing for doing here job so fast and basically leaving the run running made you smile. You were good to read people which you learned when Alston was talking with people. You would watch them and try to understand if they might become an enemy or create a problem. Nobles, soldiers and the so called kings of the Underground... They had different ways to hide their true intentions but in time you learned every single trick they had. Knowing that you had time on your hand you got up , dressed up and eat some food before leaving the room. Your blades were taken so you felt a bit naked but knowing that you get to fight in a short time boiled your blood. Except killing people , you loved fighting and it excited you. That was the reason why the bastard Alston agreed to take you in and train as his soldier. You loved to see the blood dripping form your enemies . It was your drug , made your head spin , gave you energy and power to move on. Turning your humanity off and letting the leash of the monster inside of you go . You smiled and licked your lips while walking slowly to the training grounds that the nurse told you to go .

" Let it begin "

Chapter 4 The Test and the Truth

As you walked , you looked around. There werent many paople. They were mostly eating or talking so you guessed that it was lunch break. Knowing that Erwin would be informed in a short time by the soldier who was guarding you from days now , you walked with a normal speed to the place where th nurse described. It was a big place outside with some dummies but you could see that the soldiers would usually train in partners. The outer side of the place had no plants and as smoth as the floor which made you think that the soldiers were run regurarly . Which was understanble for a Corps which had to be strong and in condition. You stood facing the main road and started to wait. The weather was nice . Not cold or hot with a mild wind . You looked but at the sky.

" It ıs a beautiful day isnt it dad ?" you said in a low voice. You saw 4 figures walking towards you. Erwin at the front. There were Levi and another woman with glasses following her. And you saw the girl who probably killed the Duke. You werent angry towards her and thought Erwin brought her to see your reaction. Probably you will be fighting her. When Erwin came closer you saluted him which shocked him but he said with a calm and jokin manner

" I dıdnt know that you were that eager to fight again. Anyways this is Levi but i guess you know him. This is Hange . She is one of the best and incharge of our research department. This young lady is Mikasa who is one of the best cadets . You will be fighting her first." he explained with clear words. You bowed your head to each of them showing your respects. Levi was clearly uncomfortable but Hange on the other hand was excited which was clear as the day. Mikasa set in front of you. You turned your attention to Erwin and ask

" How should ı fight her Commander?" your simple question puzzled Erwin adn the others. Hange who couldnt keep herself ask you :

" What do you mean ?" in a excited tone. Her eyes were light up as she examed you with her eyes. After looking at her you turned your attention back to Erwin who was also waiting for an answer

" Which technique? Which weapon ? When should ı end fighting Commander? " as you asked the questions Erwins face changed as he understood your actions and guessed that you were not an ordinary soldier. He touched his neck as he answered you

"No weapons for now. You will fight until ı say stopp. And for technique ... Fight in a way that you are comfortable." His orders were clear and you saluted him which made everyone a bit more shocked. You can see clearly that Erwin wasnt comfortable but you decided to ask later.

You turned to the black haired girl. She was wearing the normal uniform and a red scarf. Although you were in your own clothes from the morning you judged the scarf as a hinderance. You would use it to your adventage. She took her stance for fighting. While preparing yourself for the fight you sensed a similar auro like Levi's. Hers were delutated but it was similar with addition of something else. ' So they are making me fight for not only to see if i will lose my control but also she is similar to Commander.' You smiled which catched by Hange. Levi with a bothered and annoyed tone

" Why is she so abnormal?" he was not only annoyed by your actions but also shocked by your unique questions. Although your stlye had a bit similarity to the Underground yours was different. And he couldnt totally understand it. Hange smilled and explained

" She should be trained like a dog. She had to have orders for everything. And Erwin is his new master ı guess." Although Erwin is bothered with Hange's remarks which he totally agrees he doesnt responses and gives sign to start the fight. Levi sees that your stance is a little bit different for the morning. The distance between your feet are bigger but the overall position is similar.

" tch. She understood that Mikasa is also an Ackerman" which came as a suprise to both of his friends.

Mikasa made the first move . While you dodge it, you became conviced that Mikasa and Levi had the same blood to an extent which meant that she was strong. You made a mental note and continued to analyse her. Although her technique was perfect she lacked the experience you and Levi had which meant that you find the opening you were lookign soon. Knocking her out in a single move to her left feet send her straight to the ground. You turned your head to Erwin to if the fight is over. You could easily continue but you knew that this fight wasnt meant to kill. Erwin put his hand up and giving the clear order to end the fight. You saw that there were a group of cadets watching you and Mikasa . Guessing their reaction they should be part of the Levi's squad and friends of Mikasa. You extended your hadn to Mikasa to help her. Erwin was pleased by the outcome but wanted to see her fight more. Hange sensing his thoughts and desires said

" Now Mikasa can use your blades but you have to fight barehanded." Erwin turned his head to Hange but understanding her intentions he nodded and started the fight. Now Mikasa having a clear upperhand meant that you had to be more careful. She was using the blades for killing the Titans which meant that they werent durable but they were very sharp. Taking a single cut might be problematic to you. Still you took your stance knowing that you fighted when the odds were much worse. Mikasa striked first again. Although her hand to hand combat was decent you felt that her skills with the blade was perfect. You thought that if she had much more exprience with fighting people your possibilities for winning would be slim but for your luck she was inexpreinced. Her fighting stlye was reckless showing like she is fighting to a Titan. Although Titans are dangerous they dont block your strikes but humans do. Which meant that you had to give her an opening to strike you comfortably and using that opening you could dissarm her. Getting a few injuries was expected but you decided. If you had luck you woul they would be minor things. Acting as if you are scared you made her think that she had an opening. As she strike you dodge it and kicked her in the belly as she cut your arm and the shoulders. Hange shriked as she saw the blades touching your skin. Your blows were enough to send Mikasa to the ground once again. You put your right feet on her back to pin her to the ground. You bend down and picked the blades. Your hands tingled with the sensation of the cold steal.

' Kill her. Stab her. See the blood driping from her body. It has been long time since your last murder.' the voice inside your headd told you. You craved the blood. Yes it had been long. You missed the bloodshead. The fight with Mikasa wasnt enough for your desire. But you threw the blades away form you. No . It ısnt time to kill. You knew it and turned around to look at Erwin. His face told that he was satisfied with what he saw. Levi grunted as Hange looked even more intrigued about you. Erwin said with a calm manner

"Okey ıt is clear that you are a powerfull soldier when it comes to hand to hand combat. But do you have any experience with Titans?" His questions were fair considering you would be fighting against Titans. You answered directly

" Yes Commander. The Duke made me hunt Tıtans atleast once a month." Your direct answer made everyone curious. As a guard of a nobleman who never left the city there was no reason for you hunting Tıtans. Levi talked

" Oi brat dont lie. Why would he make you hunt Titans?" he asked curious and believing that you lied. You understood his thoughts which was understanble. The sword of a noblemen hunting Titans made nosense. But you answer with the same calm manner

" The Duke loved eating Titans. So ı would be hunting every month for his dinner with the king Commander" you answered as your gaze moved form Levi to Erwin. Erwin shing gave you a sign that he understood. Which meant that you were an experienced hunter for the Titans. He wanted to know more about you.

" Okey thats enough. Mikasa thanks for your help . You may go. As for you we will be talking upstairs about more on that. Follow me " As he gave you orders you bowed to Mikasa showing your respect and followed the Commander and the others as they walk. You kept your usual distance of 3 steps and walked after them with your gaze not wondering but following the Commander. Levi sensed your moves which annoyed him furthermore. He couldnt understand your actions. He thought that you were loyal to the Duke first but your sudden change and accepting Erwin as your master irritated him. ' Does she have any thoughts or just a dog without brain?' He hated most people who obeyed without any questions and you were the prime example of that. When they arrived to Erwins office you came in and scanned the room. It was a big room with 4 large pictures. The room was filled with bookshelfs and had a big round table where most likely Erwin had his commander sit and discuss the planns. Put they moved to the desk in fornt of the windows. As they sit you stop 5 stepps before the desk and looked at Erwin who was waiting you to sit. But as he remembered Hange's comments he understood that you were waiting your orders.

"Sit. Now ı can see that you are strong and experienced both fighting with Tıtans and human. So tell me who are you? Why the Duke had his guard?" His tone was calm but set some autority. You set down and started to explain everything without leaving any details.

"I was born in the the forest East the Wall Maria. My dad was a famous hunter because he provided expensive fur to the rich and noble. After his death the Duke found out that ı was an orphan so he send his man to kill me. But ı survived which made him think that i might be usefull to him as a guard. My mentors were his genearl guard at the time but in the years ı was thought by the high ranking soldiers of the army. Me and Darne were his weapons. Drane would be the one to take over the tasks consistiing plotting and sending messages and ı was the executioner. I never was a part of the plotting. The Master knew that Drane was loyal to him and would do anything. I wouldnt be trusted because ı had no loyalty to anyone, Commander." As you explained their faces changed. Erwin was right to think that you werent a part of the plans but only the mean of the killing. Hange was only making mental notes as you spoke but Levi's face was shocked which was unusual. He never was the one to show any emotion but hearing your words made it clear to him that you werent a brainless dog but a human who was put in a dogs leash. It made his blood knew how well it felt because of his upbringing. Erwin was using the information that you gave him to understand you and why you considered Drane as a problem.

" So thats why you send me the note warning about Drane. I am thankfull for that. Do you have any idea where he might be?" Erwin's remark of you warning him made Levi respect you. Although they wanted kill you a few days ago you were considerate enough to warn them ang give them information. This meant that you had some sense of respect and wanted to pay your depth. He let an annoyed tch and turned to the window.

" The Duke tould me that he send him to the city for some errands. But Drane would definitly went back to house after 4 hours because it is the procedure. If we dont get any orders in 4 hours we have to go back and check if anything is okey. So he either heard whats going on or went and saw the situation. For the errand i am clueless. I know that they started to plot something new but ı wasnt informed about anything. They would usually tell me who to kill or give enough information if there is somekind of a danger which needed my knowledge, Commander." Your answer were direct and short with enough information. Hange saw the pattern of your speech. ' It is spefic and contains the most important aspects without making it long. She gives her opinion only when she is asked and ends her speech with Commander. Interesting. She isnt a dog but a very clever soldier who can act like an obidient dog. She lives to survive. Considering her fight on that day and today her movement is precise showing her long training' She nodded to Erwin giving the sign that she understood her which made Erwin to ask his final question.

"Okey. My last question is : What is your name?" His direct question was straight to the point but your reaction shocked everyone. As someone who has been calm during the most lethal times you were shocked and moved your gaze from Erwin to the floor. Everyone now was examing your every move. You said with a voice empty of any emotion

" Commander ı know that ı have no right to ask you a favour. But would you let me tell you my nickname and surname instead of my name. I can ensure that my real name has no secret meaning . I just ... am not that person anymore." You moved your eyes from the floor to Erwin. He understood that although you seemed not to be bother by anything you were still caring the scars of the past . Although he doesnt trust you fully there is no real reason for him to psuh you. He shaked his head as a yes. You stopped a second before you spoke

"Zande Connor is my name. "

Chapter 5

Erwin shook his head to show that he is pleased. Now he had to discuss with his trusted friends and decide if you could be usefull for them. Although he considers Zane as a capable soldier who plays by the rules, your response to the autorithy makes him question how he could use you. As Zane guessed he isnt a person who can use people directly or threat them like a dog or servant. But Zane's actions and answers to your question showed him that she acts accourding to the orders which she learned her time with the Duke. Duke Alston had the repetution of a cruel person who is nutrious of his two swords so Erwin considers her actions as normal. He spoke after a short break.

"Zane you will be escourted to a room in this floor. We will discuss and tell you our answer whether you will be a part of Survey Corps... You can sit there and wait us. It should take long." He added remembering your actions when she entered the room. Zane stood up and saluted three of them and turned and left the room. Erwin turned to Levi knowing that he would be pissed and asked calmly

" What do you think Levi? Can she be used?" Levi turned . His face shocked Erwin who was waiting a pissed Levi but he couldnt see any clue of anger. Instead Levi had a small smirk and a strange ligth in his eyes. He walked towards the chair he stood up and spoke at the same time

" She is different. We can use her but she is used to have a master. We need to be careful with her transition from a dog to a soldier. Erwin , she sees you as her new master and she even tried to warn you of possibly danger. Her actions including her speech and figthing is precise and clean. If she can kill Titans as she fought me or Mikasa we now have a great weapon. But ı dont trust her yet. She has nothing to lose and that makes her unpredictable and dangerous. " He stated his thoughts. Hange smilled seeing the similarities between Levi and the girl he jsut called dog. ' Having similar pasts makes them similar i guess?' thought Hange. Erwin turned to Hange as he is curious of her unnormal long silence.

"Hange?" he asked her . Her eyes turned from Levi to Erwin and lighted up with enegry as she started to speak

" I agree Levi. She might be usefull for us. Now that we are going to experiment with Eren's power, she migth be helpful if Eren ever loses his control. But the thing is I think that she taking you as her new master is dangerous Erwin. You are the Commander and if something like before happens we wont be able to control her. We sawa how dedicated she can be when she tried to save that old bastard from 100 soldiers and she was going to do that if it werent for Levi. I dont want to imagine her reaction if you were arrested again. We can affort such an action especially now with all the eyes on us waiting for a mistake" Hange's words were true and Erwin knew it too. He needed some strong but also able to understand her. His decision was clear.

"Levi you are going to be his master for now. You are the only person that ı can trust and could fight her. You also can understand her which makes it easier for us to understand her thought process. I know that you dont like it but this is the right thing to do." Erwin's eyes met Levi's gray emotionless eyes. Levi shook his head showing that he understood him. Looking at the time on the clock next to the bookshelf he sighed and said with an annoyed tone

"Okey ı will take her. I cant let her stay with my squad so she will be staying with me until the next expedition in 4 days. Erwin i will try my best but ıf ı ever sees her betraying us i wont hesitate and kil her" His respond made Hange laugh.

" Are you sure shorty? Although you were able to deadlock her, she got out of it and by the looks you werent winnig that easly as teh usual." Her words made Levi roll his eyes and let a sharp tch out. He ignored her words because knowing that he had to deal with the new brat and his squad were enough to give him a headache. Erwin interrupted befora a fight can break.

" Enoguh Hange. Anyways this is all Levi you may leave." giving Levi a chance to leave which Levi used immidietly. After Levi closed the door Hange turned to Erwin and with a serious tone she asked

"Are you sure Erwin? They are too similar. You know that Levi has an unbreakable loyalty to you." Erwin sighed . He knew the dangers and was fully aware of their high possibilty.

" I have no other choice Hange. She is strong but lacks motivation. She is like a ticking bomb which can kill basicly anyone here with ease. " She shook her head and walked towards the door but stopped before opening it said

" Be carefull. " and look at her friend and advisor whose blond hair was shinning like the sun.

Levi entered the room and found Zane standing near the window looking out. If someone saw her like this would think that she is a normal soldier but in Levi's eyes she was dangerous with a mysterious aura. He could understand why she didnt wanted to tell her real name but stating that that person is dead wasnt normal even for Levi's standarts. She turned to Levi due to her sharp senses. She saluted which made Levi let a sigh out.

" Oi brat. I am your captian from now on. You will get your orders directly from me . Because we cant trust you now you would be staying with me for the next four days when we are going to leave for our expedition. You will train with the squad but other than that you will be next to me. " You shooked your head showing that you understood. So 'they decided to make Levi as her master ' you thought while following Levi. You expected that becuase of Erwin would be suitable because of his character and Hange isnt strong enough fro an emergency. You felt people looking at you and whispering. You knew that the mission for kill the Alston was very important which was the reason there were many people there that day. You guess that the soldiers were talking about you being a guard of an awfull Duke or killing their comrades with little to no mercy. They knew that some criminals were accepted in the Corps and knowing your skills it was normal that they made you one of them too. But this did make them feel uneasy. The whole Corps either saw you fight or heard the rumors and with a short time there were many rumors about your cruel ways of killing or your bloodthurst filled every conversation. Levi acted as if he didnt hear anything but aware of every single one of them. It bother him greatly because just like you he had a similar past which made him embarresed each breath he took. Fortunatly his office was close by so he didnt have to listen to the empty words of the cadets aroudn him. He opened the door and step in leaving the door open for Zane. You followed him like you are a baby duck and he is your mother. He walked to his desk and said

"The lunch break is going to end shortly but ı need to make a few things clear. I dont intend treating you like a dog. We have no place in Survey Corps for dogs. If you arent do the simple actions without orders leave immidealty. I will train with you to see your technique and see if you be usefull for us. I will also order Mikasa and Armin to be your guides and explain everything. I dont have time to deal with you." You shooked your head.

' So he will join us training. But why ? He was you figth two times.' you thought adn tried to come up with possibilities. And you could understand from his words that he doesnt want a puppet that he could make it do anything. ' Interesting. I thought he would enjoy having the whole power to himself' but when you considered his past which made the possibilty of him being a dog in the past made you realize that he hated such people. You made a mental note and listened to him.

"I hope that you understand. We will be leaving in 20 minutes." He said and turned to his paperwork which was like a small mountain on his desk. Unlike your normal self you sat on the couch and looked around . Levi's room was on the west wing and compared to Erwin's office is was smaller but had two big windows. However Levi's room felt as if it had no soul where Erwin's had clues about his personality. It was filled with books , maps and charts which suggested you that he spend the majority of his time there. You could also point the furniture that Erwin personally bought and places which had a different style compared to the usual boring design of the furniture of the HQ. But Levi's room was cold and had nothing personal. You felt the faint smell of the cleaning products as you walked in. ' He should be cleaning regurarly.' you thought as you saw the fainting colour of the couchs. Although you were shocked to learn that Levi's room wasnt closer to Erwin you remembered that the west wing has the easiest exit so it meant that Levi could leave and comeback without any problems. ' Interesting' . While you were scanning every single detail and pretending to not sense Levi looking at you occasionaly to guess what you are thinking you stayed still.

Levi was shocked to see her act less doggy and more human like once he finished his sentence. Seeing that she tried to understand what he meant and where the line was drawn, he smiled for a second and continued his work. He knew that you were scaning everything and trying to understand him more. Knowing from his own experiences it was important to have her to get the place know. She was a stranger without any connection so he had to give her a place where she could feel safe. ' This is what Erwin did with me' he remembered. 5 Years ago you were accepted in the Survey COrp and Erwin was in the same place you were in. Levi remembered everything. Noone believed or trusted him while Erwin tried to be unbiased while nor forgeting each and every possiblity. Levi sighed and stood up. He knew that he had to do the same with her because he owed that to Erwin. Zane turned to him. Levi looked at her eyes. They were as cold and as dark as a winter night.

' Lets see if you are worth it' thought Levi while taking a step forward. Seeing her master move you stand up. He stoped in front of you and looked directly into your eyes.

"lets go. Dont forget to behave" he said coldly. You followed him as he walked towards the training place where the same group you saw while fighting Mikasa was there. You were rigth that they were your squad. You tried to read the atmosphare but didnt sensed anything bad. You sensed Levi getting more annoyed with each step and took that he disliked spending time with people and his squad was mostly consisted of bubbly and loud characters.

Levi stopped in front of them.

"Oi brats. This is Zane Connor. She was the soldier on the Duke Mission. From now on she is a part of this squad so behave accourdingly. Mikasa and Armin you both will be responsible of her and explain everything. I dont want a clueless cadet in my squad. Now the training will be starting now. You guys can get closer after that." he said in an annoyed tone with autority drippng from each word.

" Lets start"

Chapter 6

Levi and Zane got into their fighting postions and began to walk in a circle with a 1 meter radius. While Zane is checking her right legs movement , Levi tried to understand his oponent. Although he saw her figth a few times now, he saw that she was able to read her opponent and change her style accourding to that which meant for Levi that every little information he gave is for his disadvantage. This also meant that a long figth with Zane would reduce his change for win signifanctly because she would starting guessing his movement and knowing her ability to plan that would be a pain in the ass for Levi. While Levi was examing the situation Zane was focused on her opponent. You started to analyse yourself. There were no pain or restriction on your movement which meant that you both were equally healthy. You even had some basic attacks to be sure which not only proved that you was fine but also gave you a sense of Levi's style. You knew that everyone had a style whatever they do. You judged Levi as a flexible man with incredable strenght. Although he was on the shorter side for a man with a height around 170 he moved fast and sharp. You felt the waking urge to fight.

' yes it is time to unleash it'. With breathing out you shut the emotions you had left after years of torture and pain and became the killing machine you were conditioned to become. Levi saw the change. The empty black eyes were now litt up like a night sky full of stars. He sensed the change of your demeanor too. You were the cold and steady person but now you were filled with power and the fire to fight which made him chuckle.

' what an interesting girl. I will enjoy beating her up' though Levi and started to attack.

The fight lasted for hours. One moment Levi would be punching Zane and she would get out that situation somehow and return the attacks Levi just landed on her. Although the squad tried to not pay much attention to them, they found themselves watching as the fight continued with the same energy and lust to win after 3 hours. Everyone of them knew that they would be yelled by the captain if they asked anything to him. However they didnt leave the training not only because they knew that the captian would punish each and everyone of them with 50 laps but also the fight was very interesting. Noone in the whole army saw Levi fighting with someone more than 10 Minutes. But here he saw bleading on his head and fighting a girl for 3 hours now. Sasha and Connie were starting to lose their patients as the dinner time came closer and closer.

" I know that it is amazing and etc. But I AM HUNGRY!" said Sasha with an irritated tone. Connie aggred

"Like why is the Captain draging this fight for this long?" he asked with out thinking. For everyones suprise the quite Armin answered him

" Because he cant win against her. Neither of them can win". Everyone looked at him shocked. Eren asked with curiousity

" The Captain Levi CANT win ?! What do you mean ? He is the Humanities Strongest Soldier." Jean and Reiner agreed him. Reiner who was a gifted soldier said

" He isnt God but there is no way in the world that a girl like her eventhough she is hella strong can be a opponent worthy for him" with a hint of jealousy mixed with coldness. It was a huge punch to the pride of the every single male member of the squad and even the soldiers who saw them fight. Some stopped to watch some looked while walking to shoke his head.

"They both adapt to fast the each others style and after fighting for this long they both now each others style which means that they predict every move. And dont forget that she was trained to be a sword of a noble from a young age". Everyone agreed. For their luck the Commander Erwin appeared. His tone was strong and autoritive know that the two soldiers as focused on fighting as you and Levi only recognize authorithy and stop. Erwin saw the figth around the one hour mark and watched from time to time. He saw his best soldier beaten by the killer dog of the Duke or the crazy girl getting punched by the mercyless and noutrouis soldier. He understood after a short time that the fight would end in a draw but let them both fight . Erwin understood that the both of them had to figth until they were worn out so that they could put the past behind them and open a new page. However their non ending strenght and the poor squad who had to watch them made him to went there and put an end to this fight.

"Stop both of you!" his words made the two soldier stop instantly. Levi looked at him with eyes filled with questions. But looking Erwin made him came back to the reality and put himself back and shoot to his squad " Everyone go to the dinner. We are one for today" But Zane was still looking at Levi. She was still in the magical feeling of fighting Levi. Although she got some injuries , she was feeling amazing because how awesome the fight was. She never felt like this even when she killed countless men and got covered with blood. She closed her eyes for a second as you locked the monster inside its cage and opened your eyes. Erwin spoke with a sharp and clear manner

" You both are going to Levi's room and getting change. After taking care of your wound ı will be waiting Levi for dinner and Zane will join her team. Juding the fight she havent had the change to talk with them" . You two shoke your head to show that you understand. Levi and you started to walk towards to nord west while Erwin turned and walked back.

Levi was in deep thoughts as he tried to understand the fight and you. Your moves were always for a reason and never throw a punch with a meaning which he learned quite fast. At first he didnt use his full power because he wanted to see your strenght but he was proven quickly that you were strong and punished him for going easy on you. He glanced at you and saw you for the first time as a human. You had short brown hair which glowed red under the sun suiting your aura. Although your legs were muscular suggesting your power and flexibility , your arms were thin which made the person thought that you were weak. But that was the opposite of the reality. Your punches hit hard and hurted as they hit his body countless times during the fight. Your short hair unlike Mikasa's lack any femininity. It was a longer version of the usually style for the man in the military. They moved effortlessly as you striked and glowed redish. Levi was irritated but respect you for putting such a fight. He felt after a really long time the excitement he used to feel when he was fighting with a worthy opponent. Your ability to change any mistakes or movement he used as an opening was remarkable and showed him that you were used to fighting. But what puzzled him was the look in your eyes. Except those burning and lighten up eyes you were the same but the feeling it gave him wanted to fight more and beat you up until they were gone. He felt his irritation rise as his thoughts were wondering in his head with the speed of light. You were neither short nor tall for a women and he guessed that you should be around 165 cm atleast. As you walked Zane's mind was blank. She was satisfid with the figth and felt her body filled with energy.

When you arrived at the room Zane looked around. Like his office the room was lacking anything personal or might give her any clue. But the smell of the cleaning products were heavier which told her that Levi cleaned regurarly. Levi turned toward Zane and spoke with a voice lacking anything

" You go get a shower while ı change. I will give you some clothes . Be fast" You shoke your head and went to the bathroom which was white and clean. Taking every single clothing item on your body you steped in and washed your hari quickly. You felt the cut from Mikasa's blade and some bruses for them fight with Levi. You sighed as you acknowledged that you will be needing stiches for the cut on your back.

Levi changed in to a clean uniform and throw the thirty one in the basket. He saw the uniform for Zane which made him let a irritated tch.

' how long do ı need to keep up with this brat' thought Levi but his thought progress was cut in half as Zane walked out of the bathroom. Her hair was wet but she had a new leggings on her while still wearing that old tshirt. Levi felt disgusted as the sight of you wearinf dirty clothes. He asked in an irritated manner

" Do you need any stiches ?" hoping that you would say no. But for his despair you shock you head as yes.

" only one. It ıs on my back but ı can do it on my own if you give me the material ı need" Levi was shocked. She is going to stich herself and the wound is on her back. He didnt know if you were serious or not but he prided himself for being a good captain so he let a sigh out and

" Dont be a brat. I will do it take of your shirt" he said without giving much though and went to get the first aid kit. But to his shock you didnt take it of. He was angry

" are you deaf or what?! take it off" he said. But Zane's face was cold and her eyes were showing signs of dissobeyment. Levi was intruged. 'She isnt obeying me although she is a dog who would do anything she ordered. Zane looked at Levi and after a short pause she said

" I will rip the tshirt so you can do the switches without me taking it off" as she ripped it. Levi thought that she was being modest and not wanting to be exposed in front of a man she didnt he sat down and looked at the wound which was now visible. But then he saw the scars on her shoulder. They werent new but he could see that they were very severe once. The interesting part is that they werent cause by blades or guns ... They were signs of someone whipping you hard and heartlessly. Levi started to tend the wound as if he didnt saw them but ın his mind he was think all the possibilities. ' Why there are marks like this on her body?' he though. He knew that the masters would whip their servants if they did anything wrong but the sheer amount suggested that the number of times that Zane got whipped was very high. He felt a slight anger in his chest. He hated whips becasue he knew how bad they can feel. The feeling os your flesh getting burned by the leather and the anguishing pain it left. He thought that Zane felt that pain often and very severly. He now understood the real reason but acted as if he didnt noticed.

Normally Zane would be either analysing his movement or trying to read his mind but she was tired. Fighting for hours until a break was something she was used to but Levi was strong and she knew that she was lucky that she was able to dodge and read his movement. If Levi really intended to kill you, you would put up a fight but lose at the end.

' he is really the humanities strongest' she thought as felt the needle going in and out of her skin. She knew that Levi saw some of the scars on her back but sure that the number wasnt close to the actual one so she didnt bother about that. Knowing Levi's past you knew that he would recognize a scar due to whipping but also consider it normal because of your life during the past 10 years. He put everything back once he finished his job which was fast suggesting that he was skilled and did this often. He stood up and said

" Change and then we will do to dinner" as he walked to his desk. You stood up and took the uniform while going back to the bathroom.

Chapter 7

Erwin's orders and sit with his squad. Levi was extremly irritated as he and Zane walked to the hall hearing everyone either telling others about the figth or discussing the why's and how's.

" Are you sure?! She lasted for 3 hours and Commander had to stop them?"

" That cant be true! The captain must have went easy on her"

" ı heard that she is known to be a ruthless killer dog of the Alston"

He got more and more irritated by the each word. He knew very well that Erwin and Hange were going to talk about this too. His fear was Hange who have a loud personality with never ending energy which is a good thing for their research for Titans but a bad news for him. He sighed and sit new to Erwin and greeted both of them. He unintentionaly check what Zane was doing but as he thought she walked to the long table where his squad was seeted. She sat in between Armin and Jean.

Levi turned back to his friends. He sensed that Erwin was somewhat angry but also interested on his experience during the fight where Hange was trying her best to sit still. He sighed heavily and looked at Hange knowing to well that she would never let him go without hearing the whole story. As he summarized the figth and stated his thoughts Erwin's face changed from calm to intrigued whereas Hange continued to look him with exictment and shock.

"SO SHE IS YOUR EQUAL WHEN IT COMES TO FIGHTING!" she shouted standing up when Levi explained everything. Her loud voice ecod in the big hall which made everyone look at them. Levi pulled Hange's arm to make her sit and shook his head. Erwin was silent but Levi sensed that he was thinking and analysing every single word he said. Erwin trusted Levi with his life and valued his opinions knowing that his Captain wouldnt say anything unless he thought that it is important. Erwin wanted to speak more on this but considering Levi's mood he knew that it wasnt the right time. Levi alwasy had a scary aura around him but Erwin saw clearly that now his was near his limits. Hating to be the topic of every speech and to having everyones eyes on him were enough to drive Levi mad but Erwin sensed that Levi still wasnt over todays fight so letting him think and come to him was the right choice knowing very well that Levi would never hide any information on such topic. Erwin changed the topic

" She will be coming with us to the expedition in 4 days. We can get a clear idea on her and test her as freely as we want there and wont create more gossip." Levi shock his head and unterstood that Erwin was telling him to stay low until then. His gaze wonder to Zane who was eating as she listened Armin and the others.

You put on a mask before sitting on the table which was your habit for years now. Your strict and calm behaviour always scared people so inorder to make a good impression on the squad you chosed to smile and act a bit normal. Sasha was the first person to recognize you and she waved her hand as a sign for you to go there. Everyone looked at you but to your suprise they were warm and welcoming. They greeteed you as you sat between a blonde boyish guy and a brown haired guy. The blond one spoke with a calm and clear voice

" Hey my name is Armin and ı am given the task to explain everything to you. So feel free to ask me anything you want." Taking his introduction everyone introduced themself. The girl who waved at you was Sasha and the bald looking guy with a huge brigth smile was Connie. Next to Connie sat a boy with brown hair and eyes who was exicted with overloading optimisim called Eren. who was sitting next to the girl with the scarf, Mikasa. Jean was sitting next to you . Reiner was a blonde powerful looking soldier and Berthold was a silent guy. Ymir was a tall girl with freakles and a warm smile. As you ate you listened Armin expaining the basics while trying to understand the dynamics in the group. The daily routine was simple : Waking up around 7 am and going to Captains office where they would get their first task of the day which usually was cleaning. After lunch it was training time which would end around 18.00 when they usually go for the dinner. You immeditely saw that Eren , Mikasa and Armin had a special bond which indicated that they knew eachother longer than anyone else. Sasha and Connie who both loved food also seemed to have a close relationship where Jean and Eren would argue alot in a playfull manner. Ymir was like you in which she enjoyed sarcastic comments which made Jean even more fired up. However you sensed that Reiner and Berthold werent that close to the group. Their actions and manners would come across normal to an ordinary person but someone like you who spent her life analysing people you sensed that something was odd of which you made a mental note.

As you were listening them as you eat Jean turned to you and ask you in a tone suggesting that he was curious

" Soooo. I am assuming that you will be with us on the expedition after seeing your fight with captain today." Normally such a question would make you irritated but you saw that Jean wanted to make you a part of the convorsation which showed that he had great communication tried to sound as normal as possible

" I am not informed on that but ı am assuming yes." As you remembered your figth with Mikasa today you turned to teh black haired girl and ask in a shy manner

"Are you okey Mikasa? I am sorry ıf ı hurt you during the fight." You werent a shy person but after listening to their conversations you learned that they are more than friends but actually a small family. Although you can admit that you lack many morals or found the ethical norms of the society you always respected people with close bonds. However Mikasa's reaction wasnt what you expected.

"No not at all! Actally ı enjoyed it." You can see that Mikasa wasnt the most warm or the social one in the group but she respected power, which was similar to Levi. 'So my guess is probably rigth' you thought. Sash who was still shoving food in her mouth said

" so are you going to stay with us. Cuz ya know... My room is kinda free sooo... Feel free to join me !" Her warmth made you smile. You sensed that there was something familiar to her. You couldnt point it out but she reminded you of your childhood. You answered her in a warm tone

" I would be glad but the Commander ordered me to stay at Captains room for the time being until they can fully trust me " Your honesty mixed with your tone shocked everyone and made them smile. They thought that you were a heartless killer but after talking to you they understood that you were just like them : Had to many scars and found a way to keep yourself safe. And by your strenght and will to figth the Captain for hours was definilty earned their respect as they know how strong he was.

Levi looked at the group to make sure that they accepted Zane. He hated when the brats in his team would fight over stupid reasons and he couldnt afford such things. He stood up when he was sure that they got to know eachoter. Erwin looked at him

"Good night and be nice Levi" he said knowing that his friend wasnt the nicest or used to having women in his room although he wasnt sure if he could call Zane a normal woman. Only by her apperiance one cant say that she was either male or female. Although her body having the usual curves of a woman she hid it very well and adding her actions and character made her unique. But he still knew that Levi lacked the social skills and adding his angry state of mind he was worried for a fight. Knowing Levi it wasnt hard to gues that his right hand was burning with the desire to end that fight and declare his win. He wouldnt give any second thought on such a topic but Zane wasnt predictable and the similar fire in her eyes during the fight told him to be careful. Levi just nodded and walked towards the table where Zane and others were sitting.

You saw Levi standing up and walking towards you which meant that they were going back.

" Guys i think that ı need to leave but thanks for everything" she said with genuine gratitude which warmed everyones heart. You waved goodbye and followed the Captain until you arrived his room. You sensed that Levi wasnt comfortable having you here which was understandle and expected. You guessed for the lack of anything personal in the room meant that he did have any kind of guest over here. You felt a bit sad as you invaded his private life. Levi looked at you and said

"Tch brat. Okey you will sleep on the bed and ı will sleep on the couch. I left a few clothing item on the bed so feel free to use them" in an annoyed manner . But he wasnt expecting your reaction

"Captain can ı have the couch? I dont sleep much and ı am not used to sleep on the bed" Your honest and clear response shocked him. ' not used to sleep on the bed' he thought. Yes his suspitions about your childhood was correct. He didnt know what to do with that revelation so he pushed those thoughts away. He nodded as he felt to tired to talk.

"Do whatever you want" and went straight to his bedroom.

Chapter 8

Your days with Levi were uneventfull and calm. Although the fisrt night was filled with tension and anxiety , you two found a schedule somehow. He felt that you were bored and not used to having to sit still and do nothing so he gave you some tasks : prepare tea, clean the bathroom or go get sosme food but what he wasnt expected was you to learn his whole routine in a day and do every single one of them for him. The first morning he felt that your eyes were wathcing every single movement that he did but he regarded that as you analysing him and his character but he couldnt be more wrong. You already had a clear outline for his character and was simply learning everything Levi did and were eager to do them next morning. So when Levi woke up the next day found out that you already prepared his black tea , brought the newspaper he read everyday and cleaned and organized his desk as the way he did. He was suspisios at the first but started to enjoy it because he saw how eager and perfectionist you were and he would never ever punish someone taking something so serious. The second thing that he found strange but good was that you would always do the pervious tasks he gave you before asking for a new one. Levi felt that Zane was more relaxed around him too. At first she would sit still but now she would wonder around his room and pick up a book while he would be busy which meant that he didnt want to be bothered . They were both not the types who enjoyed small talk but they had their way to chat too. Levi saw that Zane enjoyed getting praised by her work so he would de that occasionaly which made him uncomfortable and somewhat happy at the same time. He would found himself blush time to time which made him more and more irritated but he regarded that as a sign for his uncomfortabilty around women. Although he was very popular amoung the women, Levi never had any kind of a relationship with a woman. He didnt know the reason : Was he found them annoying or was he scared to feel anything to anyone which was a result of his past scars and traumas.

You have been observing Levi for days now for making sure that you wanted to serve him. Knowing that Survey Corps gave you a new chance in life you didnt want to spend that for another Alston. But it was clear to you that Levi was the total opposite of Alston. He actually cared for you on some level which was strange to you. You had some blury memory of your dad where he cared for you but you never felt that warmth for years now. On the first morning you found yourself on the sofa with a blanket over you which was weird. You knew that you had no blanket over you which meant that this was Levi's doing. You smiled and waited for him. It was clear to you that Levi wasnt the type to sleep alot which was a suprise to you. Although you werent the one to sleep for long hours you knew that a soldier who is as active as Levi would need energy but he would sleep 4 hours maximum. But this situation explain alot to you why he had that pale skin and the dark undereye bags. You follow the routine that Armin told you a few days ago with the squad with whom you were getting close. You enjoyed Sasha's company the most which was at the first kind of weird to think because of your polar opposite characters. You were an ice cold person with sharp eges whereas she was warm like the sun which shined bright. But you learned in a short time that she also brought up as a hunter which explain your foundness towards her. She had this smell of the woods combinad with meat which reminded you of your home in the forest and your father.

" Zane come on! We are almost finished." shouted Eren for the other side of the corridor which Levi made them clean. You were taken back how detailed Levi was when it came to cleaning but it was clear to you that he was a cleaning freak which made you chuckle even now.

' He is humanities strongest but cant handle the single dust particle on his desk' you thought as you put the cleaning product in the cabine and walked towards Eren and the others. You considered yourself close with them now. They were good people with kind hearts expect Berthold and Reiner who you thought that were weird. You thought first that they were a bit introverted but it was clear to you that the reason was something different. Seeing them act different when they are around the squad and always talking eachother made you curious which madde you keep an eye on them. You laughed at yourself caring for this squad. You had no reason but they accepting you although you were their enemy a week ago made you respect them. They considered you as a part of the group after meeting you which made you swear to protect them.

' I will be their guard and keep them safe. Every one of them' you made a promise.

Although you liked your days in the HQ you knew that all of you were going to leave for the expedition tomorrow. Levi ended the training session early today so that everyone would have enough time to get ready , pack and sleep. You knew that you had to talk to Captain after the dinner because you had no clothes with you and wanteed to take some personal stuff with you form your so called home. After the dinner you said goodbye to the guys and walked to the office where you knew that you would find Levi burried in his papers. You knocked the door and waited Levi to tell you come in. Although you stopped acting like you were when you were Alston's guard due to Levi's strict orders on the first day , you still couldnt let your habits go. Levi understood that and respected you for always being considered and being like a picture perfect soldier. He understood that you would fight until the end because you saw him as your master which irritated him greatly. Although Levi loved and wanted obidience from every one of his soldiers he liked to win their trust with his actions as a captain but you didnt cared if he was the imbodiment of the devil. You would simply follow him to the end of the world and die if he ordered which wasnt what Levi wanted. He wanted you to dedicate your life with your own choice. But as many man Levi was clueless when it came to women because he couldnt see that you were evaluating him. Remembering Erwin's words on the first day you watched Levi's every move analyzed every word that left his lips. You wanted to be sure that you were dedicating your life to someone who worth it because this time you were able to choose. This crazy battle to understand eachother between Zane and Levi were the amusement for Erwin and Hange who were both intreseted to see how Levi would act against a basicly a carbon copy of himself when he first joined the Corps.

" Come in" said Levi with a sharp tone. He knew that Zane wouldnt enter the room with out his orders and it meant that she had something to tell to him because she would usually wait for him at his apartment. She knew that Levi wanted to be left alone as he dealt with his work. He found it strange knowing that there was someone waiting at home but he found himself enjoying it. Maybe because his house was cleaner than ever.

Zane walked inside and closed the door. She walked directly to Levi's desk which simply made Levi thought that he was right. Zane looked at the floor as she spoke with her usual tone with hints of her struggle to choose her words.

" Captain i am sorry to disturb you while you are working but i need to ask you something. I am sure that ı am not in the position to ask any favours but i wanted to know if you would let me to go to my house to pick up some of my personal belongings." she said without moving her eyes from the floor. Levi was expecting her to ask this question for days now and he was shocked to see that she waited until now to ask which showed him that she didnt have anything valuable expect the neckles which she never took out. He saw it when they first fought but seeing that she didnt take it of even for a second made him think that it was important to her.

' So you have more than that neckless that you value' he thought as he looked from his paper work to Zane. He could simply say yes and let her go knowing that she would return after seeing her loyalty but he was interested in her. He prized himself knowing the simple details about his squad which meant that he could predict their actions but Zane... No he couldnt. He tried and tried but failed miserably which annoyed him to another level he never felt before. ' So it is decided that i am going to, tch' he thought and said without showing any of his thoughts

" Okey ı will come too." he said as he stood up and get ready. Zane was shocked not only because he let her go but he also he wanted to come. You thought that he didnt trust you not that much which hurt your feelings. You tried your best to give him more and more reason to him that you werent going to run away and yet he still didnt believe in you. But you send those thoughts away . 'It doesnt mean anything. I dont care if he believes me or not. I am now a part of this squad and he will see it. I will make him' she thought feeling her anger rising within her to which Levi was too clueless to see and thought that was too silent.

Chapter 9

You entered your one roomed apartment that you have been living since you were 10 years old. It was in an old looking building but the neighboorhood was quite and calm where nothing happened. You would normally consider yourself a tidy person but wasnt sure if you would meet Levi's standarts. Because you used this 'house' only for sleeping and eating you never cared to clean it. Levi looked at the room.

'Soo she lived here' he thought while he scanned the room. Not only you had nothing personal but also every furniture had a purpose and they werent anything more than needed. He was shocked because even his cadets had some garbage that they claimed was important but actually useless. The room was clean and tidy which pointed out that you spend little to no time there thought Levi who considered you to be a bit messy. He was now more curious as he get not a single important information about you. He sat down on the only chair in the room as you slowly went to your wardrobe to get your clothes which were nothing more than a few pairs of black tshirt and pants. You tried to secretly get your underwears but you sensed that Levi turned his gaze somewhere else once he saw what you were doing to which you were gratefull. ' Although he seemed like a person with out any emotions and regard to norms he was a gentleman in heart ' you thought which was a result of your many observations in such situations. He never looked at you after you took a shower or were chaning your clothes. You walked to the small nightstand next to your bed and open the first drawer and picked the only picture and rings of your parents. You were ready which was far fast than Levi expected but he was glad to know that he could go back to HQ and drink a tea while he tried to come to a conclusion on whether he should tell this to Erwin.

You turned back to Levi signaling that you were ready to go back. After a while as you were walking back Levi asked in a annoyed tone which had some hints of curiosity

" Was that the photo of your parents?" You knew that he saw the picture but glad that he didnt sneak and looked at it when you werent around. You spoke with a calm voice suggesting that you werent bothered by the question

" Yes that is the only one ı have. " He didnt looked at you but felt the pain in your chest. If anyone who could understand this pain you knew that Levi was that person. You didnt know anything about his life in detail but what you heard from others that he also lost his mom who was his only parent growing up. You felt that the topic was both uncomfortable to both of you and ending the conversation like this felt wrong.

"What is our plan Captain? I know that we are not going out to hunt Titans." Your choice of word made him chuckle. 'Hunt?! ' He thought because he knew that noone would consider what they do as hunting let alone a soldier whose duty to fight against them. You sometimes amused him with your crocked view of the life. He spoke in a more relaxed manner

" We will try to understand Eren's powers and find a way to use that. But we are going out the walls to no to attrack any attention. Hange will be with us with some of her subordinates. Erwin is planning to come and look when we get a clear vision. We still need to be carefull because there will be titans around. I am hoping to see your fighting skills against them too. Although you are very good when it comes to hand to hand combat but you are not used to fighting titans regurarly. We will be located in an old castle which was used as a base for Survey Corps but it place wasnt used for a long time so even the supplies we will be bringing with us we will be force to hunt. I am counting on Sasha and you for that because of your past." He was open and honest which you appreciated and took for a sign that he trusted enough to tell everything. This kind of a trust was unfamiliar to you because Alston would only tell you either the information which was used to plan a fight or the name to kill. You felt a sense of warmth inside you as you thought that the Captain saw you a part of his squad which meant that you were a part now. ' I belong to somewhere... after a long time' you thought and was happy for this change.

When you arrived to Levi's apartment he went to work as you left the bag with your clothes near to the door and went to the couch to read the book you were readding for the past few days. You never had the chance to read for a long time because of the increasing number of the tasks you had to do which was a clear sign that the bastard Duke's plotting were becoming more and more dangerous.

Levi was focused on his work but he saw you dozing of on the sofa as you read. He was bothered that you declined to take the bed everytime he asked. He saw the bed you used to sleep which was nothing more than a matrize on the floor. ' She didnt even had a bed' he thought which boiled his blood. Although he was used to poverty, he didnt expected this much for a guard of a powerfull nobleman. Alston had the money but it seemed that he didnt cared for his sword and sheild. ' But yet she still protected him even she faced death'.Why? Simple loyalty wasnt the reason which he knew because you didnt affected by his death. Maybe that task was the only reason why she woke up everyday which seemed more reasonable. Even at his darkest hours , Levi had a purpose to live and to survive but all possible reasons were taken from Zane at a young age.

He looked once again to Zane you was now asleep. He sighned annoyed as he stood up and went to the sofa. His gaze wondered on her face as Zane was sleeping . She was vulnerable and he could kill her with ease. He wasnt used to see the girl who could fight with her for hours who could came up with a plan which was as good as Erwin's who had clear bloodlust but here she was sleeping innocently and in peace. He sighed as he felt himself getting more and more annoyed but he picked the girl who was his equal and walked to his bedroom. He placed her on her bed and pulled the blanket over her.

"You are now free so dont pretend that you are still that bastards dog." he said in a low voice. And walked to his desk. Now he knew what to do with his observations of your room. He wrote a letter which was more a report stating everything he saw and his thoughts simple and decided to give it to Erwin before he left.

You woke up on the bed which made you shocked. Although you were sure that you were on the sofa last time you remembered , you concluded that Levi must have caried you here which made you blush a bit. You shook the thoughts away and stood up to start your morning routine. You would take a short run and pick up the newspaper to come back and brew the tea as you took a shower. You saw Levi sleeping on the sofa which irritated you. You couldnt understand why he caried you to his bed. You were used to sleep on sofa which was basicly was your bed before coming here but Levi... He was the captain and he had to sleep somewhere comfortable. You thought that this was the reason why you felt anger rising within you. But that anger made your run quicker which was good because you had no idea when you will be leaving the HQ.

After the breakfast everyone was ready to leave. You all were on your horses and started to go to the west where the doors to outside was located. You enjoyed going out because the freedom and danger it had. Feeling that every second there could be a titan appear but also had the freedom to go any direction was an intriging contrast which wasnt a case in your life. The journey lasted for 3 hours with the breaks you had to take for the horses.

The old castle wasnt big or fancy and the lack of care was evident for the eye but you liked the feeling of a new place which had no restriction. Levi ordered to clean which he supervised like a freak. ' Yes he is definitly a cleaning freak' but you obeyed every single order he gave. She didnt care if she had to redo a whole room becasue he wasnt satisfied with Jean's cleaning , you would do it. Everyone was amazed that Levi couldnt find anything wrong with your cleaning.

" Be honest Zane. Did you went to a school or something where they thought you how to clean for obsessed Captains?" asked Eren jokingly with clear signs of having no energy left.

"No she must be one like Captain" said Jean which made you smile. Although you all were tired being together and talking made the situation better.

"I am dying from hunger" said Sasha who was always hungry. As you were getting ready to answer the boys you all were shocked to hear Levi's voice

"Okey everyone although you still havent finished cleaning we have to eat and go to sleep if we want to have a productive day" His voice was full of annoyance which meant that Hange made Levi say this. Everyone understood that and thank Hange inside their heads because knowing Captain he wouldnt let them stop before everything is cleaned twice.

For dinner you had meat with boiled potatos but you knew that this wasnt enough for Sasha so you passed your potato to her secretly before either Hange or Levi could notice because you knew that they would protest and say that even you had to enough for noticed your action and was greatfull knowing that she wouldnt be beg for food from everyone who was as equally hungry as her.

After doing the dishes and cleaning the table you were ready to go to the room that you are going to sleep with Sasha , Connie and Jean. Levi trusted his squad knowing that they wouldnt dare to do anything knowing that he was sleeping next door.

"Zane follow me !" You shocked hearing Levi's voice who volunteer to be the watcher for the next few days. Not knowing the reason you follow him to the roof top. The moon uliminated the forest around you which made it possible to see the denser areas of the woods and the beautiful lake which was mirroring the countless stars on the sky. After a little pause Levi spoke

"Zane ı want you to carefully analyse the enviroument to have a general idea what to do in a dangerous situation." You were now intriuged. ' What can possibly happen?" you thought. Levi sensed the questions in your head. Although he didnt wanted to give much information which were basicly based on his senses, he decided to give enough so that you could be prepared.

"After Annie's accident Erwin and I am considering the possibilty of more spies from Marley. I saw your ability to come up with solid plans with my own eyes. I trust you to come up with such a plan to save Eren and the others." You turned your gaze from the Captain to the forest. You saw that the density of the forest was different in some sections which was a major factor for using ODM. After a long pause where both of you watched the forest you turned to Levi and spoke

"Okey Captain ı will keep that in mind " in a firm tone. The moonlight softened his sharp and muscular face while creating some softness which was normally foreign to him. His pitch black hair looked like an extension of the sky and his eyes were calm and peacefull showing that he was glad to have you here. Zane's experrience over the years and his ability to see the weakness was something that Levi accepted and knew that she was the only one expect him to have knowledge on fighting humans. The others were used to fight with titans where you didnt needed any complex plans which was the total opposite when your enemy is human. He shock his head and wanted to be alone as his headache got worse and worse.

" Be carefull and keep an eye on everyone" He knew that the real danger wasnt the titans, they were the enemies pretending to be friends.

Chapter 10

The first few days were filled with setting up the training places and experimenting on Eren's titan form. They found how many times he could use it without draning all his energy or how long he could say there. The squad fought with some 5 meter titans which allowed Levi to jugde Zane's fighting. He considered her to be a good fighter but with experience and time she could be one of the best in the Survey Corps. But knowing that she was decent with nearly no fear made her usefull. Zane was carefull after her talk with Levi but could see nothing out of ordinary during the day and guessing that noone would try to sneak out when Levi is the watcher she wasnt expected much. Levi also new that but wanted to test Zane too. Although he knew that she wasnt a spy he still found himself wanting to learn more and more.

"Okey guys this will be the last one. Every one to their position" said Hange who was full with energy as she did more and more experiment on Eren. Although Eren never lost his control, there was a chance that he might and knowing that Hange pushed him more than ever today the possibilty was high. You were stationed on the front line becausue Levi wanted you to have more experience with fighting titans. You knew that you were a bit behind in comparision to others but that fulled your desire. While you went to your position you felt that someone was watching which was interesting. ' This castle is far away from the walls so there should be any civilians.' which meant that that person was a spy. You clenched your teeh but decided not to do anything so that she could gather more information without letting the spy know that they were seen.

On your way back you went to Levi as if you were going to ask something but he felt that there was something important going on.

"Captain there was someone watching us today." you said in a low voice not wanting others to hear you. He shook his head to let you know that he felt the same. You continued

"I think that you shouldnt be the watcher tonight. Whoever the spies are they know that you are powerfull. If we choose a weaker person as the watcher we might learn more" You knew that your plan made sense but that meant that having the whole team defenseless for the night. You saw Levi's grayish eyes getting darker and cloudier as he thought and considered your idea.

"Tch. You are right. You will follow them and ı will stay around the castle to make sure that everyone is safe" he said and gave a simple head sign to let you know that the conversation has ended. Zane's words made Levi think more and more.

' Am ı doing the right thing? Although she is powerfull she is still a cadet and a young woman.' The abilities that Zane shown time and time again wasnt the reason he has his concerns. Actually he saw Zane and Mikasa the strongest when it came to war but he didnt wanted to use you as you were used by Alston. He found himself wishing that Zane valued her life more. ' You still have many more years to live' he thought as he found himself getting annoyed by this foreign feeling which filled his whole body.

After everyone went to bed you were pretenting to asleep as you waited the traitors to leave. You were terrified knowing that they were probably in your squad. Although you never cared for anyone you felt this weird bond to the people who welcomed you with open arms and hearts. Knowing someone used this made you angry. ' How can someone be this cold hearted?' you wondered. You wished for many years that you had someone close to you and there were this assholes using the good nature of people who were friendly towards a heartless guard like you. Your thoughts were interrupted by the sound of someone moving which meant that the mission has started. You touched your neckless and closed your eyes for a second and after that you were ready... ready to figth and protect.

Two hooded figure went to the woods as Zane followed them with a safe distance and Levi was hiding in the shadows. They looked at eachother and Zane gave a sign that she is leaving. Levi felt his heart clench wishing that nothing bad happend to you. Having no information not only meant that they didnt know how strong the enemy is but also how many they are. It could be a problem if the situation excallated which menat that the spied would run away before they could capture them.

You followed them using the trees and the shadows as you moved closer and closer. The figures stopped when they met another hooded figure.

"They are advencing with a faster pace then we expected" a voice said which was too familiar to you. You heard this voice for years and years. 'Drane?!' you thought . But what was he doing here? It made no sense.

" I know we will strike earlier that expected. Let Zeke know that and meet us in a month" said Reiner. 'Reiner?! What are you doing ?' You were shocked. Although Reiner and Berthold werent close or friendly towards you , you considered them as a part of your squad and swore to protect them. But all this time they were plotting against the world you lived in. Your anger was rising but knowing that anything you do now might put everything in danger.

"Berthold are you ready ? Have you recovered from the previous attack?" asked Drane. Berthold shook his head and answered in a comforming way. Reiner said that they have to go back knowing that Levi doesnt sleep much and they would be caught if he is awake. You tried to hide more in the shadows as the men left. You decided to wait until they are back in the castle. As you watched them leaving you listening the sound of the forest. The summer was around the corned but still the nights were chilly. You leaned agains the tree as you filled your lungs with the fresh air. It felt like the nights were you slept with your father under the skies watching the stars. He would tell you the names of the constallations as you tried to remember them. Your heartached as you remembereed those days. You never thought about your childhood because it hurted a lot. The contrast between than and now was too much to bear. You shock your head to make the memories go away.

Levi was waiting for Zane who came after 5 minutes when the spies went in. He felt that she was shock which made him wonder more about the information she learned. As she explained more and more Levi's face changed. He was satisfied with her job and was greatfull that she came back without any harm.

"What are we going to do now Captain?" she said looking in his gray eyes. He turned his attention back to the girl standing next to him. Her hair was longer and started to become curly which he thought suited her. Her black eyes had lights as the night sky had its stars.

"I will write a letter to Erwin. We need to capture Drane who looks like the messanger so we might get more information ot out him." He paused a second debating whether to ask the question in his mind. He sighed and asked in a calm voice suggesting his trust

"Did you have any idea how Drane is involed with this?" Zane was waiting for such a question and thought that Captain wanted to know that too. She was the only one who knew Drane and familiar with his job. But you didnt knew anything decided to tell him everything you knew

"Drane was the one who was ordered to do tasks regarding plans and plots of Alston. I was never informed about them to which ı am greatfull to. I killed people who were a treath but he killed innocent. But ı knew that something of around the end. Alston used to give me orders to kill per week but they were more and more each month. First ı thought that it was due to a big plan and would end soon but ı was wrong. Alston ordered me to come up with plans if someone ambushed the mansion. I think the reason why he became so scared was they were plotting something really dangerous." You explained in clear voice to show that you were hiding nothing. Levi scratched his head as he was thinking about everything. His ganze wondered from the forest to the lake and ended up on you. You felt naked as if he was seeing through you. But he turned away and said

"Thanks Zane this is it for today. I will inform you latter" You stood up and went inside but you felt your heart was beating faster and faster.'Weird. Am ı getting sick?' you thought incidentally that was what Levi was thinking as he tried to understand his actions which made no sense and were not characteristic at all.

You lied on top of your bed as you thought about the day which were peacefull. You were happy here : away from the city, people and many problems. If they were no titans you could have a life like this. Although you never let your mind dream or chance the reality you let loose while you dreamt of a live in woods with people you loved.

"Alexandrea come here!" a blacked haired woman screamed as the little girl ran while giggilng. She had a yellow dress which reflected her smile as bright as the sun. "Xandra leave her alone. She will coma back when she is tired" said the man who had light brown hair. The woman walked towards him. Her beauty could be depicted in poems. Her white skin shined and her pettite body was full of love and man looked at her with eyes filled with love. He was muscular and talk. His sharp contoured body shoftened as the woman hugged him. Despite their strikingly differences they somehow fit together perfectly which saw easy to see. Their love was bigger than the world. The little got annoyed now that she wasnt the center of the focus. To get her revenge she ran towards the couple .The couple picked her up and hugged her creating the picture perfect family.

Zane felt her pillow was wet because of her tears. She was still in shock becasue of the dream. Her heartached and head hurt.

' Why did ı dreamt of that?'

Chapter 11

It has been a week after you found out Reiner and Berthold was the spies. Although it was hard for you to sit and watch them as if they werent planning to kill everyone of you , you acted as if nothing was different due to Levi's orders who knew that you would kill them if he didnt say anything. Levi and Erwin decided to take action when Erwin came to the base to see their progress which was a good opportunity to catch Drane and question all of them. It wasnt going to be easy because they would be more carefull if they knew Erwin and his soldiers were around which meant that only Hange, Levi and his most strongest cadets you and Mikasa knew about the plan. To make Mikasa a part of the plan was Hange's idea as she knew for sure that if she saw anyone trying to harm Eren, she would definitly kill everyone which would lead to no information. The plan was fake an incident where Mikasa got hurt and Zane had to take for back to the base so that they can hide and watch the spy. Erwin is going to come as they are in middle of training which would make the spy anxious and decide to leave which is going to be Mikasa's an Zane's cue to follow him to his base where they would dissarm them. As they are capturing Drane, Erwin would comfront Reiner and Berthold. Although the plan was good on the paper, you could see the possible holes which meant that someone could get hurt.

"Mikasa we have to capture Drane and go bacck as soon as possible. I have a bad sense about this whole thing." Mikasa understood you as she thought how the Femala Tıtan was a part of their group which could be the same with Armor Titan and the Collosol Tıtan. She shook her head and said

"Captain is looking for you. You should go" Her tone was serious which meant that it isnt a good news. You walked towards the kitchen where Levi was drinking his tea and reading the news paper. He looked at you and quickly looked around to make sure that noone was hear. As he walked to the door to close it he started to speak in a gentle manner

"What is wrong Zane? You have been dozing off since yesterday". His concern was evident although he tried his best to hide. You regarded it that normal because he is your captain after all. You were torn between telling your thought or hiding it but you decided to tell him because he always valued your thoughts and senses.

"I am concerned Captain. I have a bad feeling about Reiner and Berthold. They can be more dangerous than we imagined. I am going to capture Drane as quick as possible so that ı can come -" You were shocked to hear his strong and sharp words

"Zane, I get it but you need to trust us, trust me.I get that you arent used to relay on others but you can relay on me and the squad. We are not newbies so we can deal with them. Dont worry and do stupid shit which could put you and Mikasa in danger."You were touched as you felt his sincere concern on your well being. ' Weird. Captain never shows this side of him to others. I didnt know that he could fear of our safety.' But again he is your captain. But somehow those words warmed your heart as it started to beat faster. Before you noticed you blushed a little but to hide it you looked at Levi's gray eyes which were clear and calm like the weather before a storm.

"I trust you Captain" in a clear voice. " So please protect everyone" He was shocked as a little redness appear on his face. But keeping himself together he replied

" Oi brat! Ofcourse i will. That is my job" He tried to hide his frustration with anger which confused you. Why was he frustrated? Did you say anything out of the line ? You were shocked but saw Levi left the room.

' Why did she said that? You trust me ha?' thought Levi who felt irritated as he felt hic cheeks red and warm. So now his body was also betrayin him. Super! Hange saw Levi as he opened the door and slamed it. Although Hange enjoyed seeing Levi like this and would do anything to make him angrier , she sensed that this time was different and deemed that this wasnt the time for that.

After a few hours everyone was in the feild where Eren was in his Titan form trying to lift various object to test his strenght. Zane spotted the spy watching them in the south part of the forest. As she moved towards Eren she faked falling. Everyone stopped and rushed towards her as Eren got out of his Titan form. He was concerned that he hurted her. But as he saw that it was due to your ODM he felt a bit relied to know that he didnt hurt someone he carred. Mikasa stepped and said

"I will take her back Captain and tend to her wounds." Levi nodded to show that he approved. Mikasa was the only one expect Hange and himself who had a decent knowledge on first aid and she was the right choice if they wanted to keep the training. Levi acted as if he was annoyed and sent them away. After walking for 10 minutes you and Mikasa went to south of the forest and observed Drane. Although he was a skilled fighter you knew that he didnt have enough experience on things like this because you were the one who would spy and kill people for years. Erwin arrieved an hour after the 'accident'. You watched Drane as he got more and more nervous and considered his options. But because of the size of Erwin's soldiers the best option was to leave and he knew that. He started to leave as you and Mikasa followed him. As he walked in to the deep forest you saw a little barrack which was possibly his base which was a clear sign to capture him. Mikasa nodded and went to right as you went to left. In no time and effort you were in a good position to capture him.

"Oi Drane, long time no see.!" He was shocked and turned around as he heard your voice He was annoyed to see you. Although you two never had a good relationship , you know that he hated you now that you not only let his master get killed but also on the enemies side

"Oh look who is here. Our little X. I always knew that you would betray us one day." His anger was dripping from every word he said. You sighned as to show you had no intention to chat.

"Okey Drane it was good to see you again too" as you strike towards him. Although he tried to defend himself , he was no match against you who fought everyday past 10 years. After knocking him out you turned towards Mikasa and smiled eachother as both of you were relieved to see that it was easy which meant that you could go back faster. Mikasa said in her normal voice

"You go first Zane and ı will get the horse from the barrack and carry this shit." You were suprised to hear that because normally Mikasa would give everything to be next to Eren. She sensed the questions in your nodded to trust her. You sighed and took off to training place. But as you were swinging for a tree to another you saw a yellow thunder which was the same as the one you saw when the Female Titan was shifted.

"Fuck! So they are shifters too!" You were now so angry that it made it impossible to control your bloodlust. Swinging even faster you arrieved to the end of the forest to see the Armour Titan and Berthold on his shoulder trying to capture Eren ass others defended him who was lying on the floor. Levi saw you and he cursed as he saw the anger coming out of you. But you manage to get some control over yourself as you ran towards Levi.

"Captain what is the plan?" you said in a sharp voice. Erwin who was watching everything for backside saw your attitude , understood that you were now Levi's loyal soldier. What shocked him that Levi's reactions towards you. Although he hated your over the top loyalty, he enjoyed having someone to trust and even relay on.

" We will attack together. Try to go for the eyes or restrict its actions. We cant kill him with our swords but he cant stay in that form forever too." You shook your head and went for attack. Although the training place had fewer trees compared to the forest you tried to make the best of it. But you soon felt that Levi was right, your swords were useless against the thick armor. Although you wanted to slice Reiner and Berthold you kept attacking. At first Reiner tried to counter attack or block but after 30 minutes it was evident that he was getting your experiments with Eren you knew that the shifters could maintane the form between 20 minutes and 1 hour. But Reiner was using so much energy to block and attack which meant that soon he was going to struggle to maintane the form. However Reiner wasnt stupid and started to run away as everyone debated to follow them or regroup and tend the wounded. Zane sensed that everyone was burning to catch them and ask why they did this, she also knew that without proper tools and so much wounded soldier it was a lost cause. You sat down as you watched Reiner's titan ran towards the sunset.

"It ıs a beautiful sun set" you said in a low voice as you felt your body got heavier form everything and your hair moved by the wind. Levi who turned to his soldiers after Reiner left looked at Zane who was sitting. He first thought that she was wounded but seeing after how she fought he knew that it wasnt the case. Knowing that she had to face Drane and possibly comfornt her past was a hard step to take for her. Although his mind was filled with his wounded soldiers and the man he had to torture he gave himself a few second to watch the girl whose hair was shinig like a ruby. Erwin and Hange looked at Levi and thought that he was strange but Erwin smiled and said

"Even he has emotions" and turned to walk towards the base.

Chapter 12

Everyone was on silent on the way back to the base. Some of them were trying to undestand what they saw whereas the others were trying to figure out what is the next plan going to be. Although Levi's squad were known to be a bunch ouf loud childish and fun loving group there were awfully silent which was understandable due to the betraly of Reiner adn Berthold. Annie's betraly was not that long ago and now Betrhold and Reiner... Especially Eren who was like a robot on autopilot. When he saw the titans his blood went ice cold. ' They are the Titans who caused my mothers death. And I told that stroy to them... They knew it ... They said that they were sorry...' Mikasa saw that Eren was trying his best to keep the tears forming around the corners of his eyes not to fall. Armin who was regarded as a strategical genius was also shocked but was coping with it better than anyone else. Even Connie and Sasha were silent who were always either hungry or tired. Levi was uneasy with the reaction of his squad although he expected such a reaction. He knew that his squad valued eachother and he was normaly proud of his because he hated scumbags who regarded others as just piece of meat. He sighed as he knew that the dark and sad atmosphare wont be changing for the near future which might cause problems because he cant trust them when their jugdement is impaired. His gaze found Zane without any trouble who was acting as nothing had happend today. Levi knew that she didnt have any special bond with the traitors unlike the whole squad but she seemed not to be affected to see Drane who was her partner for atleast 10 years. However Levi didnt know how wrong he was.

Zane was terrified to see Drane who knew every little thing about her even the things you didnt knew about yourself. You could predict what that bastard might tell the Commander and the Captain or if the information they get from him might affect her future in the Survey Corps. ' Everytime ı feel safe or think that ı belong to somewhere, ı will get rejected. I should better prepare myself' you thought as her heart was getting heavier and heavier by each second that passed. ' Will ı be okey ? '

Erwin, Hange and Levi went directly to the big office to discuss what to do with Drane. Although Erwin was against anything including harm without a reason he knew that Drane wouldnt give any information with only speaking. Levi was in front of the window looking outside while Hange and Erwin was sitting on the chair around the big round wooden table.

" What are we going to do?" asked Hange although she knew the answer to well. Erwin's face darkened as he thought about what they were going to do. Neither Levi and Hange was experienced in this topic which meant that their chance to get solid information was slim to none without killing or really woundind Drane. Levi was more irritated now that Hange asked the question to have him answer it. He knew to well that Erwin and Hange werent suited for this but he felt like throwing up even by thinking to do those stuff. He promised himself to never repate his mistakes in the past but now he had to do even more abominable things to save humanity. ' Am ı doing the right thing?' he thought but disregarded that question knowing that he was saving many lives.

" Tch. We will torture him."

Zane was with everyone else sitting in the living room. No one was talking because what could they talk about? Reiner? Berthold? Or what this whole damn thing means? Eventhough you sensed that they were a few of them like Jean or Eren who were clearly angry beyound any measures they were also like ones like Armin and Mikasa who were more interested in the results this news will bring in their life and also the ones like Connie and Sasha who were all to confused with every single thing. You saw that one of the soldier from Commanders squad entered the room

"Zane the Commander is calling you." you were shocked because you were expecting them to call you after the integration. But what could they want to talk about before that? You already told them everything you knew and they were trusting you enough to send you to capture Drane. Or that was to save their soldiers from any harm? Cant that be- Your thoughs were broken by Levi's calm voice which reminded you that you were in the room with the 2 Captains and the Commander of the Survey Corps.

"Zane we called you here because we need your help... when we torture Drane." Your mind went blank. ' Torture?!' Did ı heard it correctly. Erwin who sensed your confusion said with a polite and warm manner that made you feel better

"Zane , the methods like torture is not used in Survey Corps and none of us is familiar with those techniques. Although we know that you closed the chapter of your time with the Duke we need your help on this matter. We need those informations from Drane and you must help Levi and me with this matter."Although you felt a bit uneasy with torturing someone infornt of Erwin and Levi you felt a bit relieved to not that they werent suspicious of you. You were not sure how they will react after they saw how ruthless you can be when you unleash the monster of bloodlust inside you but decided to deal with that afterwards. You shook your head to show that you agree with their plain. Erwin explain his plan which was simple: Zane and Levi are going to do everything to take informations from Drane during which Zane can act however she wants and not act too loyal which would make Drane suspisious.

They went to the old dungeon of the castle. It was musty and cold which made the people shiver to the bone but no one showed any weakness. They were here for a reason , for knowledge. While Levi and Erwin leaned their back to their back to the wall, Zane walked to Drane. She pulled his hair and talked to him with a harsh tone

"Hey mate, how's it going?" The man tried to act strong but it wasnt work on the strong and ruthless man. He spit on Zane's face to show that he wasnt going to accoparete with them

Zane hissed and wiped her face as she pulled his hair stronger and moved his face closer. Levi and erwin was watching her as she closed her human side and let her bloodlust free. Drane knew this side of her too well but was never the one who was on the reciving end of that. He grew a bit scared but wasnt going to surrender with a fight.

"Lets make this quick. You will tell us everything you now and ı wont break too much of your bones". Drane was shocked to see Zane to act without any commands. Even she was torturing she would be waiting any kind of commands but now she was acting on her own which meant that she would do any and everything to get those informations she desidered. He knew to well that she would torture the men they would capture even after they were finished just to satisfy her need to see blood and misery.

"So you can kill me to get those answers ha? Your bloodlust is getting out of control little X" His answer made her grab his hair more strongly ass she punched him straight in the jaw. He spitt the blood in his mounth and cussed how strong she was. He wanted to make Levi and Erwin doubt about Zane but he saw quickly that it wasnt working. The two men were standing without any change in their face however they were shocked to hear those words. Levi felt a bit relieved and worried that his guesses were correct. ' So she really has a strong bloodlust. Tch what bothersome.' he though annoyed. Zane bent on the man on the floor as she threw a few punched which were enough to break bones.

"So lets see how much you can take before breaking. You know how much ı love to see people suffer. So make good faces." she said in a cold voice as she broke his right arm. After breaking many bones she picked the man and set him on a chair. She started to take his finger nails out one by one.

"You first question is : What are you and Duke were doing with Marley?" Although Drane put a good fight, he gave up soon after his 4. fingernail.

"Okey okey ı will tell you. The Duke had some connections with Marley. They wanted to invade this cursed island and offered him a powerfull place in Marley. All we had to do is to find the bastard who stole the Founder Titan and bring him to Marley. Rest was their job." He explained in an agonizing voice due to his wounds. But Zane wasnt made a gesture to let him not that.

"We were suspecting that Eren Yeagar had him but we couldnt attack directly. So Reiner and Berthold attack to his hometown to capture him but those fouls failed. Before the Survey Corps attack to Duke we were planning to use you to get him. One of the reasons why you were still alive was to kill him." She felt the anger rising insided her. ' So they thought that they could use me for such a low reason?' She hit the man again and again for a few minutes.

"What was the other reason Drane? Huh? Why did that bastard take me in?" She said with hunger. She always wanted to learn the reason why she was alive. Why her? She saw that Drane was hesitating. ' No you have to tell me why Drane' she thought as she removed every fingertips left on his body.

"Okey Okey GOD STOP HER! I will tell you. Alston loved your mother Xandra who used to come to the mansion everyday to deliver fresh food. He saw her once and fell inlove. But your mother was already inlove with your dad who was a soldier back then. They met on the shop where your mom used to work. It was love at the fisrt sight. They got married after a few months but Alston was very jealous. He wanted Xandra for himself. Your dad was a clever man and understood the situation rather quick. They left the city soon after the wedding and settled in a forest where you were born. Alston wouldnt give up that easy though. After years and years of search I found your family but ı was to late . Your mother had died a few years ago due to an illness. After Alston heard that and saw your with your dad , he ordered to kill your parents but wanted you for himseld because you reminded him of your mother. Although you were a copy of your father your smile , eyes and dark hair were an exact copy of your mother. But after that day you never smiled like before. That crazy old man killed the only thing left of your mother which dorve him mad and he acted cold and mercyless against you. Thats all I swear the gods thats all that ı know" Although Zane was shocked to hear everything she was unfazed. Her hatred and anger took the control of her body. She turned to Erwin who felt uneasy because of the thic bloodlust in her eyes which showed how much you wanted to kill this man and waited for the next question. Erwin spoke with an strick tone

"So the Duke knew anything else about Marley's plan?". As the Commander spoke Zane turned back to Drane who was now to scared and tired because of her.

"Nothing much. All we knew that we had to capture that Yeagar boy and take everything from the basement where he and his bastard father used to leave. Please this is all ı knew. After Alston died ı took over the mission because they offered me the same things." His tone and words made it clear that he was who has been watching everything without saying anything knew that Zane was at her limit and this whole thing had to end now if they dont want to kill this man. Levi spoke in his usually style.

"Okey that is it for now. We will see you latter Drane." After he finished he started to walked towards Zane and put his hand on her left shoulder and felt that the girl was shaking. But she stood up and went out of the dungeon. Once they got out of the basement Erwin looked at Zane who was clearly in need of some time to process all the new informations.

"Zane you are free this afternoon. You can go now". Although Levi wanted to talk with Zane he knew that this wasnt the right time so he let the girl go outside. Levi turned to Erwin

"We pushed her too much. Havent you seen how she was down there?" Erwin shook his head and was going to answer Levi but Levi left him there as he heard that Zane took a horse and went into the forest. Erwin stand there shocked as he watched Levi who was always calm and annoyed and never carred about his cadets personal life to run after the stables and get on his horse and follow Zane.

"Is this only his sense of duty or something else?" he smiled and went to meet with Hange to tell her everything.

Chapter 13

Zane went out as she felt she wasnt able to breath. Learning the truth after all these years made her want to throw up.

" How could ı serve the man who killed my family? Took everything from me... Made me this monster..." She said to herself as she rode her horse to the nearest forest. She needed to kill something and the best option was the Titans. She was always ordered to kill them soo why not now... Her hair was open and moved with the cold wind blew to her face which was red. She didnt care about anything or anyone. Why would she? Were there anyone in this world who saw her other than the monster she was? Even the Commander used her to get information. He will be using her until she was useless. And Levi... Oh he just listened everything and was probably sure how inhumane she was. ' He probably hates me now too' she thought which make her feel a stab in her chest. Why was she soo sad? She could understand. But that wasnt important. All she had to and wanted to was kill. Kill everything and everyone who stood before her.

She got down from her horse tied it to a tree at the entarence of the forest. She used her ODM to swing form the trees and searched for Titans. Knowing that this forest was full of them it wasnt a big issue to find them. After seeing her first one she moved to it and started to swing her swords. Unlike her normal self she didnt go to the neck and kill it in a second but she first cut its eyes and right hand and then killed it. But it wasnt enough... She knew that she had to kill many of them to satisfy her needs. She swang from trees and went to find others. She opted for large groups instead of single ones because it was more dangerous and satisfying. If someone were to see her they would think that she was crazy and so did Levi who was shocked to see her cutting countless Titans with ease and with intention to feel the fear and danger. He saw as she cut heads of some of them or cut others in to pieces. She would wound them badly before she killed them. He could she that she wanted to fight before killing but the Titans were stupid and couldnt return her strikes which meant that she had to fight and kill more of them each time. After 30 or so Titans Levi felt that she was satisfied and thought that she would be returning to base but he was wrong again. She was covered in blood form head to toe. During her hunt she went deep in the forest where the lake she saw on the first night was. She took her clothes slowly as she was getting ready to take a bath. Levi who was spying on her on the tree turned his back as soon as he can when he understood the he was to slow as he saw the wounds on her back. They were long and deep scars indicating previous torture. His stomach went upside down as he understood that she was on the reciving end of the pain she inflicted today. She was once that powerless person and recived those terrible pains. for God knows why. He felt sick and angery as he wanted to kill the bastard who did this to her but knowing that it was probably Alston who he did kill which made him feel better. He felt his face get red and though ' How can someone take a goddamn bath in a forest filled with Titans? Does she has no regard for her life?!'. He would sneak a few looks during her swim to make sure that she was okey but each time he would feel more and more embarresed. To his luck Zane got out of the lake quiickly and dressed herself soon enough before Levi died before guilt. He never seen a women naked and he was disturbed with the fact that Zane didnt know about his existence. However Zane took a few steps before stopping again and looking at the tree he was hiding and said in a loud and sharp voice

"I didnt know that you Captain would sneak up on women taking a bath" Her words made him as red ass a tomato.' She knew and still took the bath. What kind of a person she was?' he though getting annoyed as he jumped from the tree and landed before her. He looked at her eyes which were filled with bloodlust a few minutes ago but now was calm.

"I wasnt looking at you. I just wanted to make sure that you were safe." Although he was geniune he could she that she wasnt believing him which was shocking. Zane always believed and trusted him as he did. But now he could see the shift in her probably due to the things she heard today. He decided to go easy on her but Zane wasnt going to.

"Oh so you were scared that your DOG would be useless?" she said in a sarcastic tone which indicated that she saw everyone in the whole wide world saw her a a felt sad for a second as he thought of his old days which were filled with anger due to similar thoughts. Levi wasnt the person who would care for others but he felt the need to say something to show that for him he wasnt just a weapon or a cadet.

"No Zane. You are wrong. I am worried about you because you are a part of my team ... a part of this family. We were wrong to ask you to torture Drane. It wasnt-" His words were cut by Zane's sharp tone which indicated her anger to which she had every right to have.

"But you did. YOU USED ME JUST LIKE ALSTON... JUST LIKE THE BASTARD WHO KILLED MY DAD ... WHO STOLE MY LIFE" she felt the tears forming in around her eyes. As someone who didnt cried for years she couldnt speak as the feeling looked inside her were free now. She hated how vulnerable and weak she was. All she wanted to despair but this man wasnt allowing her. Levi felt her inner struggle and pain and did something uncharacteristic. He hugged her. His armed covered her and pulled her to himseld as the tears felt from her dark eyes. She didnt make any sound or even moved a muscle. After a few second which felt like eternity she grabbed his white shirt as she tired to control herself but Levi patted her hair to let her know that she doesnt have to control herself and crie. So she cried for maybe for hours. Levi watched her hair change colours as the sun went down. After probably hours she stopped crying and looked at Levi in the eyes. Those gray eyes were filled with sympathy and regret that she didnt understood. She was too tired and worn out to either control herself or analyze anything.

"Why are you sad and regretfull Captain?" she said in low and tired tone. Levi brushed the hairs away from her face to look at her eyes which were red from crying. They were as dark as always but they were calm this time. Without any restrictions without any rules... She was herself now which was a polar opposite of normal self. He thought that he liked this version of her as he could understand why Alston fell inlove with her mother if Drane was to be believed that they were similar. Her wet cheeks glowed because of the full moon.

" I should have known Zane. I should have protected you. I should have stopped you but ... ı failed. I wanted to understand everything. Why there are Titans? What kind of a person you are? How did you become like this? How was your life? I was curious." he said without hesitation and a bit embarresement . He didnt know why he was talking like this but it had something to do with her state now. He just could muster himself to act like as if always was normal or put his usual mask on. He simply couldnt.

"It wasnt your fault-" He cut her words as he understood what she was going to say. He hated that she had the strenght to act strong even she was hurt for all these things throughout her life.

"No ı should now. I saw your scars on your back. Zane now isnt the time to talk about this. Lets go back and we will talk about this when we are back in the city" Levi wanted to stop talking because with each word he felt something strange around his heart. He didnt knew this unfamiliar feeling but he felt that he might say anything stupid which could ruin everything. He valued her as he valued each and every member of his squad. Even the annoying Eren and pain in the ass Sasha. He decided to change the topic

"I sent some of the soldiers including Sasha to hunt so we will need you and Sasha to cook the meat. I know that it is a bad idea to let Sasha to cook but still. We need to go back." Seeing Zane crack a smile and nod in a good mood made him smile too. They didnt talked during the walk back to the horses or the ride to the base. They were both thinking about stuff. Zane thinking about what this all new information meant as Levi tried to figure out his strange feelings. As they were near the castle Erwin saw them from the window and walked towards the stable trying not to attrack any attention. He hid himself as they both got down form their horses and Levi ordered her to go to the kitchen. He cut her way

"Hey Zane how are you?" he askedd in a gentle manner indicating that he was really concerend which he was. Seeing him concerend convinced Zane that she was really a part of the team. She shook her head to show the commander that she was well. Erwin continued with the same manner as he scanned her secretly.

"I was worried but seeing you happy make me relieved. Zane you can come to talk to me anytime. Okey ?" although he felt that Zane was awfully silent she shooked her head as she said yes and saluted him and walked towards the kitchen. Erwin smiled as he understood that this girl definitly cried and Levi comfortad her. He never seen Levi care that much for anyone let alone one of his cadets. Levi's squad where filled with tallented members but because they always took dangerous missions they were killed pretty fast and often which made Levi have a strange relationship with his cadets. But now he was caring and even scared for one of his subordinates which was a first time. Erwin knew too well that Levi never shown any kind of interest in women but with Zane one can easily say that his gaze was always following her and observed her. As if he wanted to keep her near and out of the harms way. But Zane was Zane who was filled with bloodlust and enjoyed fights. Erwin remembered Levi's reaction as he witnessed her actions during the torture. He could clearly say that Levi was taken back to see how cruel and monsterious she could be and act without mercy as she tortured the man like a normal everyday thing.

"Hmmm. I shoudll talk with Levi."

Chapter 14

You walked to the kitchen where you saw Sasha cutting some carrots as she eat some of them which made you smile. Even during the hard times like this it was heartwarming to see people still were themselves. She looked at you as she felt your presence and a wide smile appeared on her face which showed some concerns. You felt at home and glad that there were people in this world that cared for you. At last you belonged to somewhere.

"Oh you are back!" As she said and hugged you. You felt the warmth and the smell of woods and meat which made you remember your childhood. Although Sasha wasnt the brightest went it comes to planning she had a amazing understanding of humans which made it easy for her to talk and socialize with them. You envied her easy going personality which was foreign to someone as cold as yourself. She made you sit and looked at you to tell her everything which she knew that would make you feel better. Sasha sensed that you were an introverted and shy but her shining personality made it easy for you to speak with her. Her bright and loving smile made you tell everything and after a while you found yourself explaining your whole life story. You were carefull never to mention anything about your past to anyone from the group but with Sasha it was easy. Knowing that she would never jugde you and understand you gave you courage you lacked. After the long story she looked at you and started to talk with warmth dripping from every word

"Ya know Zane, I was also brought up in the forest but ı am here now to protect it. I know that you suffered alot in hands of some bastards but dont forget that you were a child and it wasnt your fault. However you knwo the truth now and you need to save your past self. Let her free after years of imprisonment." Her words effected you to your core. ' Let myself free?' you thought What the hell meant that ? Seeing your confusion she explained

"Dont shakle your true self. Act however you want. Thats the true meaning of freedom" Her words resonanted in your ears. True freedom huh ? Yes you deserved that ... no you owed that to yourself. After years of hiding and putting on masks, you were tired of everything. Even breathing was draining energy from you. You shook your head to show that you understood her. It will take a long time to refind yourself who was burried under enourmas trauma and strick rules but you were now ready to be yourself after years. Taking this as a good sign Sasha stood up and went to cooking. You prepared a vegetable soup and she roasted the meat. Everyone in the base was hungry and they devoured everything on the table. They thanked you and Sasha for delicious food and for their suprise you smiled and chuckled as you say that it was nothing. Everyone who were used to see your cold self was shocked to see that bright smile and gentle eyes which made some of them blush... Including Levi.

Levi saw Erwin after he ordered Zane to go to the kitchen. He was expecting that Erwin was suspecting something but he had no way to escape so he embereced the torture. Erwin had a bright and sarcastic smile hanging on his face with eyes filled with questions.' Tch this is going to take a long time. Amazing' thought Levi as he greeted his friend.

"Levi ı wont beat around the bush. What is going on with you and Zane?" as Erwin asked this question Hange saw them and walked towards them in time to hear the question. Judging her eyes she wanted to hear the answer too. Levi sighed as he understood what kind of a messed up this situation was. He was annoyed but still answered

"She is a part of my squad so ı was taking care of her." he asnwered simply but knowing to well that both of them wont believe that. Hange made a noise suggesting that she wasnt sattisfied with the answer.

" so you rushed after her just because of that? I get it Levi she resembles your past self but everyone can see that there is something else." Her words made him startled. Levi knew that your feelings wasnt just simple feelings to a cadet but he was unable to identify them too. Was it just duty or something else? Brotherly affection? Protecting the weak? Justice? Seeing Levi lost in his thought Erwin contiuned

"Look Levi , I think that you have some kind of romantic feelings towards her. She resembles you but also a very interestin woman. Dont get me wrong as the Commander ı dont support relationships between cadets and captains but as your friend ı think that you like , heck maybe love her" Hearing Erwins word shocked Levi. ' Love her?' he thought. Could he really love her? Love was a strong word but Levi knew that he was interested in her. So he decided to tell his friends everything.

"I want to protect her. Not only as my cadet but his feelings too. I want to erase her past scars or still open wounds in her heart. I want to see her smile and be happy. I think ı am going crazy" His words made Erwin and Hange look at eachother. They both understood that this conversation needed to be talked in detail so they went to Erwin's room where Levi told them everything he knew and saw. The scars on her back, her killing 30 or more titans in bloodlust and her vulnerable side. They both listened him without saying anything only nodding from time to time but both knew that their suspesion was right. Levi really had some feelings for this girl. It doesnt matter if you call it love or affection. After chatting a bit about this topic both of Levi's friend decided that it was the best to leave him alone to solve and understand his feelings. Because of they pushed him to hard they might cause Levi to close up possibly mess his chance to be happy after all this time which he deserved.

The days went as normal. Levi never ordered Zane to torture Drane or come with them after seeing her on that day. He told her that it was best for everyone that if they handled this but Zane felt that Levi wanted to protect her so she accepted this order wholeheartedly. In reality Zane hated every second that she had to torture Drane which reminded her of the days where Alston would torture as he whipped her. She was stationed to be at Eren's daily training and teach him hand to hand combat which he could use in his titan form. During this lessons they became closer as they talked about life and future during the breaks.

"Zane ı hope that this all would end soon" he said on day as they were both laying on the grass. He looked serious which was unusual for a person who was as hot headed as laughed

"Me too but we will win Eren. Sooo stand up lazy ass and lets train a bit more" You said knowing that Mikasa was somewhere here watching them. After the first few training you knew that Mikasa's feelings towards Eren wasnt just an affection towards a friend or brother. Her actions with Eren and Armin were completly different so you acted as friendly as you can to let Mikasa know that you werent interested in Eren in a romantic way. Heck you didnt know that if you would be able to be interested in romantic way to any human being. You never considered anyone , men or women , in a romantic way because you didnt know what love was. You saw your squad as your new family, had respect and had sibling like affection to Erwin and Hange, enjoy Sasha's and Connie's company, liked Mikasa because how like minded you two were and with Levi... What was your feelings towards Levi? It wasnt the same with Hange and Erwin because you spent more time with him? You saw him as your brother? No you felt your whole body burn when he hugged you and were glad to see that he was concerned for what ? You wanted to scream but you focused yourself to the training but inorder to forget those stupid thoughts you found yourself beating the shit out of Eren who was shocked to see how serious you were. But he picked up and tried to strike and block your attacks. You were happy how much he improved. He was as useless as a baby when you firts started but now he could be considered decent. You sighed knowing that it would take more time to prepare him for the real fight

"Eren thats it for today. Well done! You didnt suck that much today" you said smiling and listened to his rant as you two walked back to the old castla as the sun set .

Levi looked out of his window to look at Zane's and Eren's training which he caught himself doing more and more. He couldnt understand the reason but still continued. His thoughts were stopped as he saw Zane walking and joking around with Eren as they walked back which boiled his blood.' That little bastard is flirting with Zane' Then why was he feeling this way. Seriously why? Erwin and Hange said only that he needed to figure this out himself. But how could he ? He was way to inexperienced. He felt more and more annoyed as he saw Eren touching Zane. ' I am jealous?'

You laughed as you and Eren fouled around. You felt that you could ask Eren about your confusing thought.

"Eren ı need to ask something. What do you feel towards Captain Levi?" Although Eren would normally say that he hated that shorty but he sensed that you meant somethingelse. As he forced himself remembering the relationship between you and Levi he figured out the situation.

"Zane there are people in this world that we cant simply describe our feelings towards them. Your feelings mmight be different from how ı view that person. For example ı have someone who is near and dear to my heart whom you would view as a friend. You should find it yourself Zane" His answer made you more and more curious. Who that person could be ? A sly smile appeared on your lips as you found the answer.

"So you love Mikasa." your answered made him blush from one ear to the other one. You laughed and started mock him as you enjoyed his embaresment. Eren put his hand on your mouth to make you shut up.

"Okey okey yes ı love her but SHUT UP ! someone might hear you." He talked in an annoyed tone which made you laugh but you put your hands up in the air to show that you will stop. If someone saw you two they might think that you were flirting which was exactly what Levi was thinking as he broke the pen in his hand.

Chapter 15

After the expedition everything went to normal. Well kind of normal... Everything among the squad was normal as they get to know this new Zane who was smiling more and was more warm. She was now living in the dorm with everyone else which made it more easy to for her and others to get to know her like her early morning runs or her acceptance to cook for anyone. Because of her delicious dishes she was popular among the cadets who wanted her to cook after training. As for Levi and Zane things were a bit weird which could be felt with anyone. Levi would order her to clean his office everyday after training hours which she did without any complaints. But it was evident that both of them were not themselves around each other. At first people thought that she was just shy but then seeing Levi looking at her several times they would consider some romantic things between them. However everyone was scared of Levi and Zane which made any possible gossip impossible. Although Zane was friendlier it was known that she was capable to fight and win against everyone just like Captain Levi. Hange watched them and was amused to see LEvi struggle that much. She thought that that idiot shorty considered Eren who was clearly head over heals inlove with Mikasa. As for Mikasa who was initially jealous of Zane soon came to understand that their relationship had no romance and befriended Zane in no time.

One day after training Levi ordered Zane to clean his office as always which Zane actually enjoyed. She found herself looking for these moments of the day when she can spent some alone time with Levi. Although she told her many times that this was necessary for understanding her feelings towards Levi but she wasn't any closer to understand them as the beginning. For Levi he just simply wished to see her more which drove him crazy. Not knowing why and always being subjected to his friends mocking annoyed him to a new level which was a new high for him. He would be more strict and harsh than ever which lead anyone be more careful around him.

Zane knocked the door as she tried to prepare herself but her heart wasn't going to slow down which was a normal thing. At first she thought that she was just having a heart attack but she ruled that out because of the lack of other symptoms. After Levi let her in his eyes lingered on Zane's whole body and ended up on her face. He enjoyed looking at her and talking from time to time as she cleaned. They would discuss not only daily things but also strategies and news in military. As the Survey Corps new mission was to recover Wall Maria was announced a few days ago, their conversation usually involved about possible dangers and solutions for them. He was glad to have someone he could chat and get important views on the matter. For Zane she thought these conversations a way to get to know Levi better. Although Levi knew alot about her, she only knew bits and pieces from others which wasn't enough for her. She wished to know what kind of a childhood he had, his best friends, his darkest secrets and his fondest memories however she lack the courage to ask. She knew that both of them was close but she wasn't sure if Levi would answer those questions and she was too afraid to ruin everything.

She picked the cleaning products for the cupboard and started to clean the floor as she felt Levi still watching her. Levi wasn't his normal self today. He was spacing out regularly and even didn't attend the training personally which he did every day. She turned to look at Levi and ask

"Captain forgive my boldness but are you okay? You seem a bit down." Her genuine question shocked Levi who was feeling a bit under the weather. Normally he would scold her and tell her to continue but he was tired. He couldn't find the power to talk back so he spoke in a silent tone

"I am feeling a bit sick" His respond frightened Zane who walked and put her hand on Levi's forehead to check if he had fever. Although she did all this unconsciously once she realized what she did she blushed. His gray eyes were calm and somewhat needy. He liked the touch on his forehead which was warm. The warmth traveled through his veins as it filled it heart. She wasnt able to move any muscles in her body but soon came to her senses as she realized that he had fever.

"Captain you are burning" Her voice was silent bit filled with concern which moved his heart more.' She is concerned for me ?' he though but soon remembered that she had a thing with Eren which drove him crazy. Although he still let her train Eren, he usually ordered them to train seperatly because he couldnt stand them being close. Without saying anything he just looked at Zane. But Zane was now focused on his sickness

"Captain we need to take you to your apartment and call a doctor." Although Levi hated the thought of a doctor he accepted Zane's orders as he felt to weak to protest against it. Thankfully the walk from his office to apartment wasnt long and there werent anyone around because it was lunch time. Zane called the nursery to tell them to send a doctor. As she got Leviin the bed the doctor was here. After doing a regural check up he said that he had flu and it wasnt something serious which made Zane relaxed.

"But he needs someone here during the night to keep an eye on his fever. It ıs very high and ı need to be informed if it goes higher. Here , this is my number call me Miss if some immergency happens" he said as he left the room adn left two of them alone. Zane didnt know what to do as she was still in shock, although Levi was kind of enjoying all this. He would curse normally because he was sick but having Zane around was a too good of an idea.

"Hey brat. Help me change my clothes." he said in his usually tone trying to cover his happines. Normally Zane would be able to sense that but she was knocked out of her senses. 'Help him - change ?!' she thought as she blushed. But she was his cadet and had to help his captain. Right? She walked slowly to the bed and kneel before Levi who was now in the sitting position. Although her trembling fingers made the process longer she was able to remove the shirt which made the Captain shirtless. His tones body would leave any women breathless but Zane tried to stay focused as she went to the wardrope to pick a shirt. As she turned to the captain she was some scars which were similar to hers. The words left her mouth before she could think

"You were whipped?" she said and covered her mounth as soon as she heard her own words. She thought that Levi might be angry and decided to apoligize but Levi was faster.

"Yes. I spent my childhood in Underground. I was whipped a few times but it is nothing serious." he said in a tone to asure Zane that he wasnt tortured like her which made Zane fell a bit better. After she helped him wear his tshirt her eyes wondered to his pants. Were she also help him change that? Would a male cadet more appopirate for that? Levi sensed her gaze and chuckled

"Turn your back brat." he said as she laughed. In a few second Levi was changed and in his bed. She checked his fever again and he was still burning. Although the doctor gave him medicine she could see that it wasnt enough. So deciding to take the matters in her own hand she went to the bathroom and came back with soem wet cloths. Levi looked at her questioning.

"Captain ı will put this on your forehead and a few of them under your tshirt. They should help with your fever." she said while she tried to hide her shaky voice. Putting the cloth on his forehead was easy but Zane never saw a male's body let alone touch it. So she felt extremly shy while doing it. How much she tried to not look at his body Zane could see that Levi had some rock solid abs and some wounds probably due to stabing. Seeing each wound Zane wanted to know about their cause and felt the anger rising in her chest. The thought of Levi being harmed was enough for her to want to kill the person who was responsible for them. Levi sensed that and put his hand on her hand which was a fist due to her anger.

"It ıs okey Zane." he said in a voice showed how tireed he was. " It ıs the past." Knowing to well that she was curious he explained each of his wounds. Some were due to street fights but most of them were due to his training with that saw how interested Zane was for each and every single word that left his mouth. After some hours Zane came back to her senses as she remembered that Levi havent eaten stood up and said

"Captain i will cook a soup for you" as she walked towards the kitchen which was minimalistic. Although at first Zane wasnt sure that she had every indigridients, she found each and every one of them. She decided to cook a simple soup that her dad used to cook her when she was sick. Not only ıt was easy and fast to cook, ıt had a neutral taste so she was certain that Levi wouldnt say that he wouldnt eat that. As she cooked her head was filled what Levi told her. ' He must have suffered alot. Losing your mom at such a young age, being homeless and hungry all the time and those so called trainigs' she thought. Although she had a similar time ıt boiled her heart to learn that a man like Levi who was powerfull suffered a similar faith. Zane considered Levi to be strong and powerfull from the begining but now she undestood a bit about him, why he was the person he was. ' He had to be strong in order to survive' she though as she brought the soup to Levi who was reading a book. He looked up from his book to the girl who brought him soup. Normally he would say that it wasnt necesary but he wanted to tasste her cooking which was praised by everyone. He ate the soup without any complaints and any comments but he really enjoyed it which could be seen on his face. The rumors were true. Although her cooking wasnt something out of the ordinary, the person who was eating could feel the care and love she put in the simpliest dish which gave it a different taste. Zane was simply happy and seeing her smile made Levi feel better. ' ı can be sick every day if ı get to see that smile' he though. After the meal they chit chatted a bit. Even Levi half heartly suggested that Zane should go back Zane didnt. She wanted to stay by his side and take care of her captain. ' Does she only sees this as her duty or ...? But no she and Eren ...? And hange always says that ı am an idiot when ı mention the two of them... Can ı be wrong?' he thought as he driftted to sleep which came to him easy this time. Zane watched while Levi fell into a deep sleep. Although she tried her best to stay awake and check his temperature regurarly her eyes closed as she was sitting next to his bed.

Chapter 16

evi woke up after a long sleep which was unusual for a guy who normaly sleeps for 4 hours. His gaze wondered aroudn the room and ended up on the short haired girl whose hair was shining bright red because of the sunshines coming from the window. He sighed as he realized that stupid slept the whole night in that uncomfortable position. Although he told her many times that he was okay, she insisted and ended up sleeping like that. His suttle movemants were enough to wake Zane from her sleep. Eventhough they shared the apartmant for few days Levi realized that he never saw Zane right after she woke up who was awake at god knows when. She was still sleepy but understood the situation which lead her to stand up fast. Levi saw that her face was a little bit red but wasnt sure if it was because of the sun and sleep or she was embaressed.

"Captain you are awake. Should ı prepare breakfast?" she said as her eyes were fized on the floor. Zane felt the embaresment and anger rising in her body. ' How can ı be so stupid and fall sleep like that?' you thought as he blamed yourself. You lacked the courage to look at Levi who could be thinking everything and you werent in the position to deal with his expresionless face. To her luck he dissmed her offer and told her to leave him alone. Both of them were too confused to face eachother. On your way back you thought about the posibble questions you had to face but luckly none asked anything. After learning that Levi was sick they thought that you might be there and taking care of him. Normaly everyone would be gossiping and thinking that they were a couple or something like that but knowing Zane and Levi that seemed impossible. Huminity's Strongest Soldier who was emotionless as a rock and the murderous girl with eyes filled with bloodlust... It was simple as possible as going out of the walls and not getting killed.

You were relieved to know that none suspected anything or was gossiping because you didnt want your relationship with Captain to say the same. If they were gossips floting the HQ Levi would distance himself from you and you simply enjoyed your time with him. You remembered how at ease and relaxed he looked as he slept which was the total opposite of his normal always angry and annoyed self. 'He simply looked handsome' you thought as you felt your cheeks got reder and reder. You wanted to hit yourself over and over but with the help of a deep breath you calmed yourself. Or so you thought.

After getting changed all the squad was summoned to Levi's office. They saw Erwin and Hange sitting there too which meant that you were going over the plans for the recovering the wall. Everyone felt stressed because this mission meant a big win against whomever they were fighting . But also they knew that they will be losing many of their follow soldiers which was never a good feeling. You might be next to someone who would be dead in a few days. But the right thing was to shake that idea of your head and move forward which was the only thing they could do. Erwin looked at each of them knowing that these children who werent older than 20 were his best soldiers and he would be losing a few of them in a weeks time. Still he looked confident and talked in a voice gave them courage

"We will be going to wall Maria. This is our only chance to recover it so we need to do everything in our power to win this war. The both sides dont have any advantages over the area because it doesnt belong to anyone but there are titans roming around the city so thats a problem for us however we have Mikasa , Eren and Armin who know the city so we can position ourself in advantagous places." He expalined the situation objectivly. The plan was to get in the city without attracting any attention. While the main force will be stationed on top of the wall, Levi and his squad will be around Eren as he lifted the rock and placed it at the opening created by the Armor Titan. Although they had no knowledge about the whereabouts of Reiner and the other possible titan shifters they were confident that they werent inside of the walls which was the reason why Erwin stationed his forces on top of the wall. Although everyone regarded that the plan was solid it was evident that Armin and Zane had some questions which was evident from their faces. Erwin looked at Armin who would possibly give more knowledge about the place whereas Zane would question the military actions.

"Commander the big rock and the opening is not that far away but we need a plan b if things go south. I suggest that Eren could use his hardening power. I know that we didnt do many experiments on that but it is a better option. Only the down side is that Eren wouldnt be able to use his titan formm for 23 minutes which means that ı think Hange-san's cadets should be in that area too." As Armin spoke Erwin shook his head. He knew that Armin was very talented when it came to anaylizing the facts. Arranging Hange's soldiers was an easy task to do because they didnt have any specific task. After considering everything Erwin agreed as he moved Hange's squad from the wall to the buildings near the wall. Although Erwin knew that Eren needed protection, he still wanted Hange close by if something unexpected happend. Most of the soldiers on top of the wall was either newbies or inexperienced soldiers which meant that they would be losing huge number of them. Erwin sighed as he gave Zane a sign to tell her thoughts.

" Commander, ı think that we should be carefull where we hide or horses. Wall Maria is away from here and if we were to lose them we would be captured. If ı were the enemy ı would be attacking at first to the horses because when we use all our gasses we have no other mobility. Secondly ı believe that positioning all the main force on top of the wall is dangerous. The Beast Titan can trow stones with a near perfect aim so they would be open and defenceless. We should position some of them on top of the wall as watchers but the main force should be spilt in the city where they cant pin point our location. We can simply hide from the Beast Titan who most likely wouldnt want to come inside the walls." Erwin sighed as he heard Zane's suggestion. He knew to damn well that positioning them on top of the wall was really dangerous but he didnt want to damage the city to much. He looked at Hange and Levi for their oppinion knowing that their input for such a change was needed. Levi shook his head to show that he agreed Zane and Hange said

"I agree to. Erwin ı know that you want to protect the city but it is probably will be a ruin after the possible fight against Eren and Reiner." Erwin sighed as he saw his defeat and changed the positions of the soldiers. With Mikasa and the others help they positioned them where they are safe and able to move easy. After the changes the next subject is Eren's training. Erwin knew the progress but needed others evaluation too. He was a commander who was known to value his officers and soldiers opinion and he had probably the 2 of the best soldiers in the world. Levi talked with his usuall tone

"He made some progress but ı am not sure if he can take Reiner all his own. With Hange's new weapons it is possible to capture Reiner. My concern is Berthold. He was always silent but ı think that he is more dangerous than Reiner. His titan can blow up many of our soldiers but ı dont think that he will use it. It takes to much energy to shift into such a big titan so if he does it would leave him defenseless after he uses all his energy." Hearing Levi's positive comment made Erwin feel a bit better. If Levi who was a big time pessimist can say that they could win that meant that their odds were high. Erwin turned to Zane to hear her thoughts too as she trained Eren. Zane said in a calm manner

"Commander ı think that Eren's technique is solid enough to keep up a good fight. I have already started to perfect the small areas after talking to Hange-san about the possible ways to defeat Reiner. I consider Reiner as a solid fighter but Berthold lack the stamina and strenght which suggests that he will either use the upper half of his titan or not shift. I remember to read that he wasnt seen using his titan form for longer than 17 minutes. We can simply defend ourselfs during that time and capture him afterwards. And ıf he uses all his power we can use Hange-san's weapon which will blow up ın his temperature." She concluded her thoughts as she saw Erwin's satisfaction. She was happy to be usefull with her knowledge on fighting which she would consider a curse a few months ago. But now she was a valued member of the Survey Corps whose strenght was nearly equal to the best of the best.

After the squad left the room Erwin sat on a chair and closed his eyes. He thought about the mere children who were a year ago weak and inexperenced but now they were his best soldiers. Mikasa was strong, Jean was a good leader and understood his soldiers whereas Armin was neary as good as him when it came to stragety and there were some wild cards like Sasha's ability to shoot targets with ease or Connie's amazing use of ODM. And there was Zane who was jack of all trades. He smiled as he remembered how much she changed in just a few weeks.

"I can die without any regret knowing that they will take what ı leave to them"

Chapter 17

Wall Maria is the outset and biggest wall which not only divides humans from Titans but also sevres as a protector. Because this losing Maria meant that many people had to lose their homes but also this migration meant that there were many problems which are still unsolved to this day. People were sent to die or many starved on the streets. Housing and food were the begining of the problems but with years the resentment grew and grew. So what the Survey Corps aimed was to not only save their people but also bring some kind of a peace back in their lives.

Zane and others were riding their horse to the sun set. Everyone was tired and anxious knowing that now that they arrived to the wall the fight and possible death of many soldiers were near however everyone had a smile on their faces. They were happy to know that their death was to serve to a good ideal. Although you would regard such innocent and childish thoughts are laughable , you understood the logic behind it now. ' It ıs to calm the mind and not to be frightend.' you though as you dismount from your horse. You went to find Sasha as you both were ordered to hunt some rabbits for the dinner. As you two get ready you listened Sasha and her plans how much she was hungry and wanted to have a rabbit stew. You smiled and licked your lips as she said the word stew. Sasha was not only a foodie but also an amazing cook so you found yourself looking forward to the meal. As Zane and Sasha joked and got ready, Jean and the others were ordered to build the tents. As Levi was looking around to make sure everything was going accourding to the plan he saw Zane's bright smile from far away. Everyone was able to see that she was a chanced person who was smiling more freuqently and helped others. Although Zane was still a bit more shy compared to the others, she was now know to hang out with Sasha and Connie as they were usually hunting or cooking together. They would usually hang out just outside the dorm which gave Levi to watch her from his window. It was know that Levi was usually watching Zane but none dared to uther a word about a possible relationship knowing that Zane or Levi would kill that person.

Eren struggled as he tried to build his tent. He was never good at such task which was the reason why Mikasa was helping him. He was annoyed because Mikasa's never ending helps which he saw as him being a liabilty , although he was a bit happy this time. Not knowing what tomorrow might bring meant that he was gratefull for every second he got to spent with her. As being the only titanshifter that they have Eren was under much pressure and stress but Mikasa was there behind him which meant that she was in the same danger as him which boiled his blood. ' Why cant she leave me? Dont she regards her life as valueable.?!' thought Eren. He wanted to shake her and yell that she was important. Important for him. Mikasa felt Eren's gaze on her which made her white cheeks have a tint of a red. Although she opened her mouth to ask him whats going on, knowing Eren, he would say something stupid instead of answering her. He did that each and every time because he lacked the courage to tell her about his actual feelings. Although they were friends for years and Eren trusted Mikasa with his life , he struggled to tell her about his feelings which were so painfull to keep locked inside his heart. They were like million paper cuts but he couldnt say anything. He was Eren Yeager who was always in the middle of the danger and the person who was wanted by Marley. It would be unfair for Mikasa to drag her in the middle of this crazy situation just because him. But like the most of the men Eren failed to see that Mikasa was already in that situation.

Connie looked around to find Sasha and Zane, knowing that Sasha would be hunting all day and Zane wouldnt protest against her because she had a soft spot for Sasha. He walked around the camp to find them but let a sigh out as he saw the two hunter girls unpacking the dead animals. Although he never gave much thought about anything in life, he felt a bit happy to have these two unusual girls around him who he viewed as his sisters. He felt a bit bad for Zane at first when he found out about her fucked up past and decided to be her friend and now he was to happy about his decision. She not only was a fun person once she is comfortable but also a good teacher who thought him a few new moves. He was also glad that now Sasha had someone to talk about girly stuff he basicly didnt care about. Also this little group of missfits who were neither outgoing as Jean or was comfortable around people like Eren, was his new little family. Connie felt a little pain in his heart as he considered that they might lose one of them tomorrow but swore that he would protect them. Connie remembered his little sister who had the prettiest blond hair and the warmest blue eyes who would run around. The harsh truth that he wassnt able to see them now more than 2 years broke his heart but the two girls who were gigling and joking around make him smile a little knowing that they were his sister now.

After a few hours, everyone was sitting around the fire as they were eating their rabbit stew with potato and bread. Although everyone had their own doubths and fears they were smiling and laughing. Jean was bullying Eren as usual who was talking back. As the two of them contunie to fight Mikasa turned to Sasha who was smilingly watching the two idiots fight and asked

"Wow Sasha how did you make this stew ? You surely improved alot." . Sasha's eyes were lighted up and started to explain how to make the stew. Not interested in cooking Zane turned to Connie who was watching the fight and jokingly said

"Oi Connie, who would win if these two were to fight?" to make both of them more annoyed. Understanding Zane's intentions , Connie played along because he enjoyed not only the fight but also loved bullying both of them. As he acted as if he didnt knew, Mikasa and Sasha heard this change of the topic and joined to bully two of them, who were understandable heart broken to see even Mikasa was joking.

"How can you do that to us Mikasa?" said Jean in an offended voice which was due to his platonic love towards a girl who couldnt see anyone other than the man he was arguing with. Although Eren tried his best to hide his sadness it was evident in his voice

"You too Mikasa ?" he said which made everyone laugh including Levi who let a little chuckle out. Seeing even Levi was enjoying himself Hange said in shooked

"Have ı just see Levi SMİLE?! THE SHORTY SMILED ?!" she said which made everyone laugh harder. Now becoming the topic of the discussion Levi was irritated and annoyed and said

"Oi Hange. Dont say stupid stuff and never call me shorty again." . But to his suprize the one who asnwered wasnt Hange.

"But isnt it a cute nickname" said Zane in a low voice to not attrack Levi's attention which failed misserably. Hearing that sentence made Levi stopp as he tried to understand what he just heard. Although the sentence was simple and straightforward, Levi struggled to understand as if he was trying to decode a sentence in a foreign language. Seeing Levi's reaction, Zane thought that she offended her captain so wanted to apologize but was interrupted by Hange.

"Right?! But one cant argue with him. Anyways, ıf everyone has finished their meals, it is time to go to sleep. We will have to do alot tomorrow" she said which made everyone stand up. Feeling guilty Zane walked towards the captain and started to talk in a silent but sincere tone

"Captain i am sorry of ı offended you. I didnt mean it in a degrading way. " said Zane. Still shaken by the comment Levi tried his best to pull himself together before the situation became messier. Although he would be angry normally, he was blushing now and becuase of that he wanted to end the conversation before anyone saw them.

"It ıs okay Zane. I am not angry. Now go to your tent. Have a nice sleep" he said and turned around leaving a shocked Zane behind him. Knowing that Levi hated the fact that he was short, she thought that he would be fumming but he wasnt. ' Why? thats weird' she though as she walked to her tent. She who had never felt nervous or anxious before anything , found sleeping a bit harder than normal. All she could think was the fact that tomorrow they would be fighting and some of her friends might die. That thought make her want to throw up but she was able to calm herself down. As she drifted in to her sleep she said

"I will do anything ı can to protect them" . Even she didnt knew what that actually meant.

The next day Survey Corps woke up early and infaltrated the abanonded city. Levi's squad was positioned in groups of 3 around the city center while the main force was scattered all around the city equally. Erwin wanted to cover every single direct that the enemy might attack however this meant that the single force on a single direction was considerably weaker that the original plan. Stationing the most of the soldiers on the outer skirts of the city meant that they would be unharmed when the fight in the middle of the city break. Knowing to well that not every soldier was strong or brave enogh as Levi's squad, Erwin's choice was sound enough to reduce the losts. Although Erwin wanted Hange's soldiers near him so that he can position them if there was need for reinforcment he positioned them between himself and Levi for capturing Reiner. Becuase of Eren's Titaans size, Reiner seemd to be the better option whereas Berthold could destroy all of them with a single attack. But Erwin had some tricks to himself which was top secret only known by Levi and Hange and their squads. Erwin know that Marley had more spies inside of Survey corpes however he was sure that none of them was inside of these two squads. If they were here which would be revialed when Reiner and Berthold attacked on that day becuase they were nearly captured. So Erwin was relaxed enough as he knew that his enemy had no idea what they had in store for them. After checking every group he smiled as he arrived on top of the wall and saw the Beast Titan was waiting for them as he stood with 100 or more Titans behind him.

" Let the war begin." said Erwin

Chapter 18

Zeke was waiting the Survey Corps for days as he anticipated that they would be trying to capture Wall Maria again. He knew from Reiner and Bertholds reports that the kingdom was struggling not only because of the high number of the immigratants but also of the lost of many farming and hunting places. But he also knew that they would want to go to the basement of Eren's house and found what his bastard dad hide there. He smiled bitterly as he remembered his childhood. He shook his head. ' Now isnt the time to remember those days. I need to focus on the war before me.' As he saw Erwin standing on the top of the wall he smiled.

"Now my titan army. Go and kill those little ants and capture Eren for me." he shooted and smiled.

Levi felt the rumbeling and thought that the war has started. He knew that the enemy would waste time but this was faster than he thought. He smiled and licked his lips and turned to his squad. He looked at each of them: they were children but had the look of adults. After a deep breath he said

" We and the newbies are the main force of the army. We will try our best to deal with the titans. Eren, you should turn into your titan form before we find out where Reiner and Berthold are. So-" his words were cuts as an unexpected blast shook the ground. Levi cussed and gave a signal to his cadets to fight. As Jean and Connie were going to lead the new soldiers , he and Zane would take care of the main titans whereas Mikasa , Armin and Sasha were going to protect Eren. The blast came for Berthold's half formed Titan which was located not far from their position. Levi cussed again because Berthold was a bad news if they were to capture Reiner with Hange's new weapon however he was half shifted which meant that it was easy for them to capture him. Levi looked at the opening where titans from 1 to 10 meter was coming in and saw Zane going towards them. Normally he would follow her to but he needed to stay back if Berthold and Reiner decided to attack. He was annoyed to sent her alone but trusted her enough and the dealing with normal titans shouldnt be much problem for her.

Zane was focused on killing as many of the titans she possibly can so that the others can move around freely. Although she tried her best, she saw many people die horribly. Her bloodlust and need to revenge were becoming hard to control and the idea of using them meant that the fight was going to be easy. So she decided to use it. After a short breath , the monster inside her was free. She was slashing titans left and right and killing every single thing in her way but she was to blind to see that she attracted to much attention. Zeke watched her as she slayed his titans. At first he was angry but soon remembered her. ' She is the guard of that old bastard. Hmm ... Thats interesting' he though as a scary smiled formed on his lips. He looked at Reiner and said

"Reiner, capture her." At first Reiner was shocked and thought to protest but then remembereed that she used to work with them. So after a slight head shake he jumped on a Titan which was going to the Wall. He was able to get in without attracting any attention. Knowing that their main attention was him, he reminded himself to be carefull. According to the plan Berthold must be around the south side of the city so he moved slowly towards there. While that he kept an eye on the crazy girl swinging from buildings and killing titans. She certainly looked like a demon.

Armin felt the panic grow in his body as he saw Berthold getting out of his half titan. He thought that this part wouldnt be occupied but he was wrong. Bethold looked at them directly. Although everyone regarded him as a silent and nice guy, he looked dangerous now. Mikasa hold Eren's arm, knowing to well that he might attack the boy which would jepordize everything however Eren stayed calm and looked at Armin, as if he was waiting him to take the lead. Armin started to talk after a deep breath as he saw Captain Levi moving towards them.

" Berthold why are you doing this?" he asked wanting to gain more time for Captain to come up with a solid plan. Berthold who was oblivious to all this, spoke with pure hatred

"you are demons and need to die." he spoke as if he was talking to people he wanted to kill. Armin's mind was frozen as he remembered the man standing before him playing, laughing and talking to them. Were he always acting? He felt his heart pierced with hundered blades but decided to be strong. Knowing to well that Berthold was trying to provoke Eren, so Armin gave Mikasa a look saying that he needed to take Eren way from here. He started to walk towards Berthold and keep him occupied as Eren and Mikasa left. Knowing that Berthold can transfom make Armin feel a bit better.

Eren was unhappy leaving his friend back with the Collousol Titan but knew to well that he would be starting a fight if he stayed more. However what tehy didnt know that Reiner saw them and transformed into his titan from. Everyone cursed as they saw the yellow lighting fell from the sky and Reiner's Armor Titan appear. Eren not knowing what to do, he looked at Mikasa who looked more anxious every second pass. But she knew that they were near the area where Hange-sans corpse were waiting which made her give Eren the signal to shift.

Bamm. Zane looked up for the titan she just killed to the second location where the yellow lighting fell. She guessed that now Reiner and Eren were in their Titan forms which meant that she had to rotate there if they wanted to capture Reiner. Leaving the main army to Jean and Connie she moved to the south side. On her way she saw Sasha and the few soldiers armed with the long distance weapons Hange-san developed. They were sharped edged bombs which were usefull to crack Reiner's armor. Atlhough Titans were able to regenarate their limbs, Reiner couldnt regenarete his armor once he loses it which meant that he needed to shift once again if he loses it. Zane smiled as she arrived and saw two huge titans fighting. Moving slowly to get her weapon she watched Eren as he fought with Reiner. Thanks to their training he was able to block and land decent strikes which created bigger openings each time. As she scanned the whole area and seeing that everyone was armed she looked at Hange for the sign to attack. Hange knew that Reiner was getting tired and after Eren landed another storng punch she gave the sign to attack. Everyone armed with her new weapon attacked Reiner , who was to stupid to think that they were using normal weapons. With the lack of a decent block they were able to place the bombs and blow him up which made most of his armor vanish.

Berthold heared the loud sound and thought that Reiner was in danger which made him to transform into his Titan form but this time fully. Armin who was shocked moved away and tired to find his new weapon. He and Hange-san discussed about the idea of using this weapon on Berthold too but they were sure that the one who attack would die. But he knew for sure that , now everyone focused on Reiner, Berthold could attack them and kill them. Trying to calm himself as he followed Berthold he took a deep breath.

Zeke was getting inpatient as he waited and waited for his cadets to return but after hearing the loud sounds of the bomb he knew that something wasnt right. He considered the possibilty that they would came up with a new weapon but ruled out any big danger. He was wrong. Those little bastards had came up with a way to harm them. He sighed and started to walk towards the wall. He didnt wanted to enter inside of the walls but now he was forced.

Eren punched Reiner's titan as hard as he can making sure that he wasnt able to move a single muscle. He saw Mikasa coming close and pulled the bastard up in the air to give her a chance to remove Reiner which she did in a few seconds. He knew for sure that Berthold would be here in a few seconds which meant that they had to either run away or kill him too. Berthold's huge titan arrived before Eren was able to decide what to do next. Berthold's mission was to take Reiner back who was possibily in a bad condition but he was shocked and relieved to see that he was in a better condition than he expected. He was able to move and possible shift in his titan form. He also heard that Captain Zeke was coming too.

Levi who wathced everything going on knew that he was the one to give the orders. He hated this responsibility but sighed and started to give the orders.

"Sasha you take Reiner. Armin protect Eren who is going to stay put. Zane and Mikasa we will take Berthold. Every-" but before he was finished the rocks started to fly . He cursed thousand times because now they also had to deal with that overgrown monkey too. He looked up to the walls and remembered that Erwin was there. His blood froze for a second. Was Erwin okay? Zane who knew what Levi was thinking said

"Captain go and protect Commander. We will take care of this bastard" . Her words mixed with the slight smile , gave Levi the courage and motivation to go. He shook his head to show that he understood and moved to the Beast Titan as fast as he could.

Now the real war was starting and only one side was going to win.

Chapter 19

Erwin was laying on the ground as his conscious returned to him. He felt a strong pain at his left arm but too tired to lift his head to look at his wounds. Knowing that Levi would leave everything and come to his side which made him curse. Levi should be the one to give orders but that dumb ass was too concentrated on him. ' Isn't he just like Zane.' he thought which was normal for people like them. People who lost everything at such young age and felt the terrible depths of loneliness. If someone experiences the heartbreaks that they overcame at such a young age and then suffered the terrible and disgusting reality of the life which would leave many deep traumas to the adults as a teenager, who can blame them for being that protective for the ones they cherish. He saw Levi flying towards the Beast Titan like a mad man. Even from this distance Erwin was able to sense his friends need , no desire to kill that thing who harmed his friend. Erwin smiled and closed his eyes.

Levi who after seeing his friend and commander lying on the ground with a missing arm, felt the anger rising in his body. He should have been better and protect his friend. But he failed and it was all this stupidly big , overgrown monkeys fault. He swung his blades when he entered the distance where he can kill the titan. Because of the size , the Beast Titan was one of the slowest titans which was an enormous advantage for Levi who cut the right arm and then continued with the left leg. In no time the Beast Titan was on the ground unable to protect his neck. Levi made thousands of deep cut on titans body which slowed its rate of healing greatly. Levi felt the bloodlust and the need to kill the human inside of this beast which was so strong that shocked him for a split second. As someone who was proud of his control over such emotions and past traumas, he could sense that old sensation of wanting to kill taking the control over his body as his boiling blood filled with the wish to kill reached even the smallest and furthest places of his body. He cut the neck in a few single sword swings and pulled the blond haired man out of it. The man was around his 30's and in a terrible condition which would mean death to a normal person but due to his abilities Levi knew that he would survive. Although he wanted to punch the man, Levi took control over his mind and tried to stay calm with a few deep breaths. As he arrived where Reiner was lying and throwing the blond bastard next to him , the ground shacked because of a yellow thunder.

Zane cursed as she understood that Berthold was turning to his titan form which was the biggest and most dangerous one. She remembered Hange's words: ' Eren can kill Reiner but if we want to kill Berthold we need to sacrifice someone'... Sacrifice someone... It made Zane's blood ice cold even now. how could she sit back and watch someone from her group die whereas she , who killed , tortured and did many other terrible things to people was alive. There wasn't much to think or discuss. She should bethe one who were to die. Her whole teenage years were dedicated to die and she was to only one who could do that and none would miss her. Maybe the squad would for a few weeks but they would get over it. Would she have regrets. Maybe ... She wanted to understand her relationship with Levi but that wasn't good enough a reason to give up now. So she moved as soon as the thunder touched the ground. She ran towards the weaponry and picked as much as she could. Hange who saw her screamed

"ZANE WAIT! DON'T DO IT" but her words weren't loud enough but Levi heard her and looked at the short haired girl as she took off and swinged towards the Colossal Titan. He could fell the anger and despair in his body. Not knowing what to do Levi was unable to move. This was a first for him who was praised for his quick reactions but now he wasn't able to move a single muscle in his body. He knew that even he moved in the light speed he wouldnt be able catch her and the thought of this was a sharp knife stabing his heart over and over which lead to a single tear falling from his eye.

Zane felt her hairs flying all over the place as she moved closer to the Titan but her eyes met with Levi's gray eyes filled with sorrow. She knew that he understood her reasons but could see that it caused him so much pain which cause the sensation of being burned alive. She never wanted to cause anyone any bad feeling but here she was causing her captain the suffer. She shook her head as she looked forward, knowing that there is no turning back and Levi will understand her one day. As the dust was suttling she felt that her whole group was looking her knowing that this was the last time they are seeing her.

Berthold saw Zane coming towards her who he knew that would be a pain in the ass to deal with. She wa not only strong but also stubborn as hell. But now that he was in his titan form , he should be able to take care of her easily but what he didnt know was the new weapons. Although he heard the sound of the bombs, he had no idea how they looked like or functioned. So when Zane attacked with the bombs , he used his hot air and create a armour with it but they created enough heat for the bombs to go off. Zane threw the bombs and pull the thriger to go back. But then something happend that none expected.

As everyone was to busy dealing with Beast and Collosal Titan, a new titan got inside of the walls and ran towards first to Zeke and Reiner. But afterwards jumped to capture Zane who was unconcious because of the blast. Levi and others looked shockingly to the new titan which walked like a dog. Hange who was too exicited to see the new titam screamed

"OH MY GOD ! what an interesting one !" but was the only one who thought like that. It was fast and captured not only the bastards from Marley but also Zane. Levi who would never let anyone from his team captured took off and ordered others too. While they were taking care of the titan shifters the newbies tried to deal with the other normal titans which was a total disaster. As Levi looked around him, he saw titans eating many of the newbies. Although he wanted to follow the new titan, he knew that after it got out of the walls it would be impossible to catch it. He felt the sharp pain of failure as he accepted defeat and stopped.

" We cant catch them but we can capture this city which was our goal. Eren shift into your titan and other protect other. Everyone ... dont die" he said in a voice filled with regret and sorrow which somehow motivated everyone. Seeing even Levi who was known for his cold heart, suffering from the lost of his caddet made them understand once that this short captain cared for them. Maybe not equally but he did care . Eren who was shaken from everything shook his head not only to show that he understand but also push the unwanted thoughts away from his mind and bit his hand. As Eren was turning into his Titan form, others went towards the nearest Titan and started to kill everyone of them as they were the reason why they lost their friend. Although none of them regarded their job as easy , it was clear as the day that they were more motivated today as they wanted to show Zane somehow that her sacrifise was worth it. Today they will repaire the wall and find the secrets laying inside the basement of Eren's old house.

After repairing the wall everyone returned where Erwin was laying down. Hange who was the best at first aid took care of Erwin's wounds but it was evident from her face that his condition wasnt that good. Erwin who acted like everything was okay so that none would panic, tired to stand up with Levi's help. He looked at the soldiers standing before him. Erwin wasnt a dreamer and knew to well that today he would lose most of his soldiers but he felt a sharp pain still. Knowing that they followed him and he was the person responsible of their deaths werent easy things to get used to it and Erwin , who has been a commander for years now, still struggled eachtime when he had to face these brutal reality. Still he had to be strong.

" Today we achived our goal. Everyone of you should be proud of themselves because we not only won this war today but also saved countless lives. Now everyone gather the corpes and we will bury them. Levi's and Hange's squad we will go the Eren's house." he said in his usual tone. His gaze fell upon Levi who was lost in his own thoughts which Erwin was able to guess. Although it was usually hard to read Levi's thoughts from his face, Erwin was able to see his friends soul clearly. He knew that Levi was worried about Zane who was captured by the bastards. Knowing Levi, Erwin guessed that he was burning with the desire to follow that weird titan but also knew that due to its speed even Levi wouldnt be able to catch up to them. He just put his hand on his friends shoulder and spoke in a low voice

"They wont kill her." he said thinking that this would ease his friend but he misscalculated. Levi's eyes were burning with revenge and a similar bloodlust to Zane. ' Wow so they are this similar. Interesting' thought Erwin as his friend spoke

"No they will torture her until they break her and then they will kill her." Levi spoke in a lower voice filled with anger. His respond shocked Erwin who guess that Levi had a soft spot for Zane but was unable to figure out the depth of his feelings. It was unusual to see Levi who was regarded as a human without any feelings, suffer from such strong emotions. Erwin tried to supress his smile and said

"We will save her. But first we need to understand our enemies." he said.

Chapter 20

Although everyone knew that they won, the atmosphor wasnt that happy as everyone looked around and saw their comrades, friends or loved ones lying on the ground dead. During the time that Levi's and Hange's corpes were dealing with the titan shifters, they left the inexperienced new soldiers to themselves which lead to a huge number of lost. Even the victory wasnt enough to ease the pain of losing so much people. But they did as Erwin ordered. picking up the corpeses of their comrades and burying them, which was never the case before. They would collect the corpeses but the number of times that they could bring them back wasnt that high. So with this relief everyone went back to their duty. Knowing that these people that they shared thier food, sat down on the same tables or sleep that the same room were able to have some peace and dignity in their after life.

Erwin who was observing the general mood was a bit pleased that the soldiers were doing good in such a tragic situation, which made him prouf of his regiment. Even his still bleeding wounds were hurting terribly bad, he took a deep breath knowing that now was the time to learn the truth. As a son of a former history teacher Erwin was always interested in history and would ask his father questions about titans and their origins but given the lack of knowledge and resources his father wasnt able to satisfy his deep need to learn more. His faces darkened when he remembered that day. The previous night his dad told him his theory on titans and he , as a naive child, retold this which lead his dads death. Even now, after tens of years he never forgive himself and vowed to find the truth about titans. And after defeating the royal family they learned more and more about the titans but it wasnt enough for Erwin, who wanted the answers to all his unanswered questions. And now he was here, before the basement where possibly all the answers were stored. When he first heard from Eren that this basement might have some answers he wanted to go there and get them but knowing that the plan would be suicade not for him but everyone involed , stopped him. But enough of this nonesense, he thought and looked at his friends and their squad. Everyone was shaken by Zane's capture. Although Levi's squad was still unable to believe that she was gone and possibly killed after torture, Levi was frozen. Erwin knew that Levi saw a great deal of himself in Zane. They were both abonded at such a young age , experienced unspeakable horrors and at the end were tossed out like a piece of garbagge. Erwin who ordered Levi to send him regural report on Zane , knew that she had a sense of loyalty to them , possibly becasue she thought that they gave her a second chance. What trobled Erwin wasnt the idea of Zane giving all the information she had to the enemy it was the thought that she getting tortured. Erwin who learned from Levi that she was tortured as a little child , saw that after Zane lowered her walls, she was like a child frozen in the time before her parents death. Her harsh lines would be soften and she would shine like a 5 year old. Even her anger reminded him of a little childs tantrum. Levi knew that too. Thats why he tried to shield her and the his childhood that he sees inside her. Erwin sighed knowing that Levi wouldnt speak to him now but was sure that he would seek his friends out when he is ready.

"Okey. Eren show us the way." Erwin said looking at the tall boy with brown hair who was still in schock. Erwin trusted the fire inside of Eren to kill every titan living on this earth to give him some strenght which would be good for everyone. The young boy stood up and look at his friends and said

"Lets go home guys." his voice was trying to hide the agonizing pain that he felt but it was as clear as the day. As his childhood friends stood up and follow him with everyone, Eren's mind was like a battlefield. His thoughts were swinging from his parents to the feeling of being useless. He was a titan shifter and yet he still failed to save his friends. He remembered all the times he spent with Zane as they practiced or joked. She was the only reason why he was able to beat Reiner and how did he paid his debth. By letting her captured and possibly getting killed... He was ass useless as the little child who left his mother to be eaten by a titan in this same city. He wanted to scream , to punch everything and everyone. But he felt Mikasa's hand rest on his shoulder which gave him the power to overcome his anger. His eyes wandered to Sasha and Connie who were both in a misserably state , which was understandbly. They were very close with Zane , who become more and more open to everyone because of them. Unlike Sasha , who was crying loudly, Connie was trying to hide the fact that his tears were falling from his eyes. Even Jean who never knew when to shut up was silent. But everyone knew that they had to focus the task in their hands if they want to fight against their enemies and possibly save Zane. So they had to be quick.

With Levi's kick they opened the basements door and everyone entered the room. It was a small room filled with books and a desk in the middle. Everything was the same: books laying on the desk, the smell of the old books was still present. Eren remembered the times when he tried to come here as he was a little kid. His dad always said that ' One day Eren.' . None in there family was allowed to come down here because they thought that his dad was working here. Eren's face darken and thought ' what were you hidding here dad ?' Everyone started to search the small room but soon found out that all the books were about medicine. Erwin who were terribly tired because of his wounds sat on the chair and felt a strange storage unit under the table.

"Eren come here" he said with his voice was filled with joy. He opened the unit while his hands were shaking. There was a book and a weird looking serum.

Zane woke up. Trying to open your eyes were hard and your head hurted like hell. You could here two men talking. One of them was Reiner but the other voice wasnt familiar at all. Reiner was arguing with the mysterious man but it was impossible for you to understand the context.

"Oh look ! She woke up" said the stranger. After a few seconds you open your eyes and saw a blonde man with glasses. He should be around his 30 's but was in a good physical shape. He sat down before you which made you realize that they tied your hands and then tied your body to a tree, which suggested that they had an idea of your fighting skills. Although Reiner saw you fight with some soldiers, he couldnt know your abilities. You were curious. ' Why did they capture me? It makes no sense. I was going to die and they saved me ... their enemy'. The blonde man looked in your eyes and smiled as if he could read your thoughts.

"I am Zeke and this Reiner but you know him... Anyway we know that you were Alston's little playtoy and we want you at our side with your information on the little demons. So you will help us and we will let you live" said Zeke with a fake friendly tone. You smiled. ' It ıs always the ? We want you and we need you but they will toss you once they are done.' It was the same with Alston and to some extend with Erwin. But what was the reason to your sudden trust to Erwin? Ohhh right... Being the saviour. But now Zeke was suggesting to kill everything you vowed to save. You could understand Erwin's logic and reasonings but Zeke wasnt that open about their plans.

"Zeke ı killed to much people for one person. I want to make amends with saving some of them. So let me leave cuz ı wont work with you." you spoke with a calm but with certain manner. Zeke's lips formed an arrogant smile which indicated that he wasnt as nice as he acted. You cursed under your breath His eyes turned colder as he lifted his hand and slapped you across your cheek which was burning like hell. You expected that he would be an asshole due to Reiner's actions around him but now his actions showed you that he was as bad as Alston. It was to be expected because the possibility of Zeke being Alston's boss is really high. Zeke punched you a few more times which made you throw up the last pieces of the meal you had.

"Now you little bitch, you will do as ı say or ı will make you wish that you were dead." he spoke in a low voice as his face moved towards yours. You can clearly see that he was getting mad and that wouldnt do you any good because you were their captive and they could starve, beat you to death or torture you as they wish. So what should you do ? Betray your friends and side with them or be a stubborn girl and die? The both sides werent that bright if you count in the possible dangers and problems. So you needed to come up with a plan and you have to be fast. But for that you needed time and best way to gain time is to act obidient.

"Okey. I will once you tell me everything." you talked as if you were curious. Knowing that Erwin and the others were already learned the truth from the basement, you needed to find it out on your own. Zeke who thought that you were on the same page as them, let go ouf you and sat down near Reiner. You looked to the sun set which reminded you of the times when you and Eren were returning to the base after your training session. You sighed knowing that those times were in the past now and chance of reliving it is as possible as a titan flying.

"I need to survive on my own".

Chapter 21

It has been 2 years since the victory and learning the secrets of their misserable life on the Paradise Island. After returning to the capital Erwin read the whole book, which depicted everything from Marley and its history to the Titans. Keeping such important informations a secret from the society was unexpectable so Erwin started sharing the news in the Survey Corps and soon told the whole country which cause at first a shock wave throughout the whole country but then people soon accepted their fate. For 100 of years they lived without any explanation for their situation but now they atleast was able to understand their troubles. Being eaten by their own people and the lives that they lead angereed the Elvians on the Paradise Island too. Erwin looked and followed the feelings of the people closely because he knew to well that they had to fight Marley and would need support of the people. Erwin's thoughts were sliced in the half as Levi entered in his room. Erwin looked at his friend, who was now a quite different person because of his guilt over Zane. Levi wasnt able to forgive himself for letting his subordinate to be captured and tortured for 2 years. They hoped that Zane was alive eventhough everyone knew that the possiblity was pretty slim. Erwin sensed that his friend was becoming more and more uneasy as the day for exchane come closer and closer.

"Levi whats going?" he asked knowing that Levi wouldnt speak unles he didnt ask him directly. The general captain moveed his gaze from the floor and to the blue eyes of his close friend. He was unable to calm himself for now 2 weeks and it weakend his strenght because he found himself to be irritated to everything and anything. Although his previous squad members, who became captains of their own squad, understood their old captains situation as they felt a similar regret too. Every single one of them struggled with guilt over that day. Leaving Zane like that to suffer for years and years or to be killed was a huge burden on everyones mind . Although Eren and others wanted to save her, they knew to well that Marley was way to advanced for them to get in and get out without any major lost. But this helplessnes affected Eren the most. As someone who prided himself as the owner of the Founder Titan and being one of the most powerfull Titanshifter, he felt a deep tortuble as he repeated himself that he wasnt still able to save Zane. He needed to find a reason to attack Marley and save Zane, so Eren used the pretense to be a spy and left the Paradise Island. Although Mikasa and Armin, who considered his thoughts at first as an romantic affection soon realized that this was his obsession with saving others. They knew that Eren became more and more fixed on saving but after learning what his father did, it changed him completly, as he became more and more silent and closed. Even Mikasa had trouble reaching to him. Although everyone was expecting that Eren would do something stupid, none thought that he would go to Marley to " gather more information". When Mikasa brought Erwin and the others the letter which was left by Eren, everyone was furious.

"That little brat did WHAT ?! " shouted Levi, who was unable to gather the words that left Mikasa's lips. He, who did everything to protect Eren, was in shocked that that suicadal bastard went alone to city which was the heart of the enemy forces. It was to much for Levi to comprahend and he left the room before he lost his control. Hange who watched everything without saying anything, sighed as she understood Eren's plan.

"Everyone get ready. We will go to Marley next month".

So the preparetions for an attack started. Although Erwin and Hange tried their best to creat an unity amoung the soldiers, it was evident that everyone viewed the situation differently. Some applaud Eren for his strenght and will to find more about their sitaution whereas others regarded his actions as another suicide attemp which might cost them their lives. But what everyone agreed upon was to save him, who was basically their only chance against 4 Titans that Marley has. Although they fough against 3 of them they had no idea what the 4. one was capable of. During that 2 years they would kill the most of the titans and cleaned big areas which were used for aggriculture . During this time period Marley realized that the Elvians where finding out the truth and they tired many plans to undermine their efforts. They send spies, which were captured soon or they would send their titans but Eren's power and Hange's weaponary were enough to deal with them. Because they lost Berthold on that day and Annie was still frozen in the ice, Marley's power decreased significantly. Although Armin's statue as the new shifter of teh Collosal Titan was a secret only known to the inner circle, Erwin and Hange knew too well that Collousal Titan wasnt suited for close combat, which meant that if that suicidal brat gets captured, they were doomed.

Zane woke up. Her head was hurting like hell. She was lying on the dirty floor. Although she was used to be tortured, she hated the morning after it. She would find herself lying on a pool of blood. Her hair was a mess and her body aching. She thought that they would kill her after one year mark but Marley wanted to use her as a pawn in their deal for getting Annie back and thought that they could get some information out of her. She applaude them for their not ending determination. Although they have been torturing her for 2 years now, they werent able to get any important information from her. Things like the basic strategic locations were things that she gave them in order to survive. She wasnt expecting that Survey Corps to come here and save her. Why would they? She was a low ranking soldier without any special connections or abilities. They would lose a huge human power but it wasnt something that they couldnt solve. She was replacable. It hurted to think that at first but soon she realized the truth. She was just too naive to think that they were a family. What would her old master think? He would probably say something along the lines of ' X, you have became to soft' and he wouldnt be wrong. Yes, she was too soft. Thinking about others when she shoudl only think about herself. But she wasnt angry for her actions which lead to this situation. She considered that as a payback for the second chance in life and the truth about her mother. ' My mom...' she thought. At first they asked about some strange questions about her too but soon realized that she had no idea or information about her. Zane tried to sit but the cuts on her torso and arms made that imposible. She knew that soon, maybe in a few hours, they would send a nurse to tend her wounds but at night the torture would start again. Zane looked at her arm where 6 straight lines where to be seen. ' One for the informations ı gave' she thought. Would everyone blame her or would take that as granted and be happy that she is alive? She had no idea. ' It doesnt matter. It ısnt like Erwin would agree to give Annie for me' she thought. That wouldnt make any sense. Annie was a titan shifter and a skilled soldier, against whom Eren would definitly lose. She heard the outher door open. This could only mean that they would either patch her up enough to torture her again or kill her.

Chapter 22

Sasha took a deep breath as she moved acrossed the city center to meet with Porco, who was a Marlian prisoner. Although Sasha wasnt sure if she should be hanging out with him, she found herself talking to him more often each day. At first it was a way to understand how Zane was living if she was alive but then it turned into a close friendship. He would cook for her and tell her stories about Marley and she would eat the delicious foods. They would exchange stories and informations which could be missinterpereted by someone with bad intentions, but everyone knew that Sasha was loyal to two things: Food and her friends. Porco saw this conversations with her as the only time that he wasnt a prisoner but a normal person. Sasha's mind was full with the news that they would be attacking Marley in teh near future. Although she knew that she wasnt the brightest one in the army, she wasnt that dumb to not to know that this news meant a few things: first this would be first time that they would be fighting in an unknown geography, secondly they would lose many soldiers. Throught the prisoners that they captured throughout the 2 year perios they had some basic idea on the military force that Marley had but Sasha knew that, this informations would be enough and they would be some lose ends to the plan. But this was neither the time nor the place to think about these glommy ideas. All she wanted to do was to eat Porcho's delicous foods and have some fun. She saw Jean walking towards her. She looked at her long time friend who was deep in his thoughts. Although Sasha never was an advicote for Eren and Jean's fights, lately she found herself missing those days. ' Although we didnt know anything, we were happier' she thought. Spending the past 3 or 4 years on the battle ground took their happinies and joy away from them too soon and too fast. She shook her head as if she wished that those thoughts would leave her and ran to Jean who was utterly shook as he felt Sasha's weight on his shoulders. He looked at the mischeivous girl and laughed.

"What are ya doin here Jean?" said Sasha laughing. Jean appreicated her strenght to laugh even before a terribly scary war. He patted the brown hair of the girl standing in front of her and as he put his mischevious smile , he said

"I must have walked here while thinking about the upcoming war. Are you visiting Porco?" knowing to well that this girl would be craving the exotic foods that Porco cooks everytime they visit. Being one of the first people to accept the Marlian prisoners as allies rather than foes, Jean had a good relationship with Porco, whom he considered as a fun loving person. After he learned the ways that they had to live as Elvians in Marley, Jean's blood boiled against the injustice against their own race. As Sasha shook her head as yes, she huggeh his left arm and pulled him as she started to run towards the caffee where Porco has been working for a year now. Sasha knew that Jean needed someone to lift up his spirits and she wanted help the man who helped her alot after Zane's capture. Remembering her made Sasha's heart skip a beat. Still she had nightmares where she saw Zane getting captured and killed over and over. Jean would help her evey single night when she struggled to sleep. Sasha sensed the shift in their group. After Zane's capture Armin developed this obsession with perfecting each and every single plan whereas Eren became more and more distant. It was all left to Jean. He was the one who took care of everyone and was there for everyone. 'It must have been hard for him' she thought as she saw the dark circles under his eyes. Although each and everyone of them had their own squads now, they still hung out often.

As they entered the caffee, their lungs where filled with the smell of the freshly baked bread and coffee. Porco, who was placind the breads on the window looking to the main street waved at them which meant that he would come as soon as he is done. It was around 4 o'clock and the small caffee was nearly empty. Because ıt was on the main street it has the view of the city center. The inside was decorated in mostly browns to create a relaxing atmosphare which was accompanied by the soft music. Although it was a sunny day, they sat inside, infront of the large window looking towards the small park. Jean looked around. During this 2 year of some what peaceful time, everything developed. Before that, there werent many caffes like this one but now they were quite popular and could be found throughout the whole city.

"Oh hello Jean and Sasha. How are you guys?" said Porco in his usual tone. Sasha's gaze wandered from the people on the street to the young brown haired somewhat tall guy. She gave him one of her brightest smile and spoke in a light tone

"I was walking here and met Jean. We both missed your delicious meals Porco." . Jean smiled as he watch how Sasha could depict anything in a positive light. It was her magical power, thought Jean. Porco smiled once he heard Sasha's compliment and promised to be back with food as soon as possible. As the young boy left them, Jean saw a faint pink tone appear on Sasha's cheeks. ' So you have a crush on this boy' thought Jean. Although they knew eachother for more than 3 years now, none in their group had any kind of a love interest ever. He acted as if he fancied Mikasa, just to get on the nervers of that stupid brat, who was either too stupid to realize that she loved him or too shy to say anything. Jean felt a sharp pain starting to form around his temple. ' Tch. Even he is far away, that asshole still gets on my nerves' thought Jean. As both the friends were lost in their deep thoughts, Porco came back with two large size pasta with some meat. He sat and looked at the cadets who were clearly bothered by something. As a previous soldier, Porco was able to read the situation and concluded that the reason for their uneasiness had something to do with an order. In order to end this chilling silence Porco asked them what they were hiding. Sasha and Jean looked at each other as if they didnt know what to say but they decided to trust their friend and explain their new plan. Porco listened them with patience and care as he tried to understand their plan and reasons. He understood shortly that both of them needed some sort of comforting. Sasha tried to sum up everything and give the impression that they werent scared

"Ya see Porco, Erwin thought about pretty much everythin' and we might find Zane too." she spoke with a fake happy tone. Porco smiled at the girl who was eating the food that he prepared as if they were going to vanish. He felt the slight tingle in his chest which was a familiar feeling as he felt it everytime he saw Sasha. He felt the sudden urge to comfort Sasha and give her some overview about the city so that she might feel more at ease.

" You know Sasha, actually the city design in Marley is pretty similar to here. There is one big city center and a smaller one in the Elvian camp. Each secret has some kind of a connection to the main square, where they usually host the important events. But i am sure that commander will give you the details once we talk with him." said Porco as if the topic they were talking about visiting that city not attack it. His calm manner gave Sasha the strenght to collect her. As Jean sat there and watch two of them speak, he sighed as he realized that he was the thirdwheel, yet again.

Mikasa looked at the street that connected two main parts of the city but her mind was somewhere else. Not knowing how Eren was doing, was killing her slowly. She , to some extend , was able to understand Eren's reasoning to go to Marley but still wasnt able to forgive him because he abandoned her. Since they were 3 years old they were always together but now for the first time in their lives they were far away from each other. She found herself wishing that she could see that stupid arrogant boy and beat him up until he wasnt able to move a single muscle in his body. Throughout all these years Mikasa tried to hide her feelings towards Eren but now deeply regretted those decisions. Maybe he would view her as a creep but atleast knew about her feelings but now she didnt know if she ever get the chance to tell him her burning desires. She felt as if she was suffecating and decided to go to the training grounds. After Eren's sudden departure, it has became a habit to spend longer hours training. It took her mind off of the excruciating thoughts which filled her mind each second that she was awake. As she entered the training side, she saw Levi who was training. Levi, who have became more and more distanced, developed a habit to train basicly every second he was free. Mikasa guessed that losing so many subordinants throughout the years had its tool on the captain who suffered alot in his short life. Just like everyone, Mikasa knew that losing Zane was the drop that trew his whole ballance off. After losing his whole squad, losing a person who was your spitting imagine, must have been hard to deal. Levi looked to his cousin and realized that she knew why he was here as he knew why she was here. They were Ackermanns. They were simple people who liked to fight. Without any exhance of words Mikasa took her place against Levi as they started to swing punchs to each other. As others saw the two deadliest soldiers fight head to head they wondered why they were training at such a late hour. They were the strongest which meant that they didnt needed to train. But what they didnt knew that, both of the Ackermanns were excited and anxious about the upcomming mission more than anyone.
