Upstart Huntist

Author's Note: I wrote this because Romin's hypocrisy toward Hunt bothered me. Enjoy the story and R&R.

Disclaimer: I do not own anything related to or of the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS series.

Summary:

Forgiveness is forged in mutual appreciation for the game.

Tomozaurus

Small but vicious, this monster even attacks its own kind.

"Are we good, hakutsu?" Hunt supplicated, self-stripped of the flashy clothes and outward attitude that got him into trouble.

He'd "apologized" to his seniors from Goha 7th Elementary, but the tension still felt hot enough it could melt the Ice Age, so he was attempting to lower the temperature by showing up to them individually. Hunt had already spoken to Yuga, who, while confessing he had no idea the Duel Dinosaur Research Club was the source of the Maximums distributed at the competition, acknowledged he suspected Hunt's team of using Maximums in their Duels, and expressed a wish for future collaboration with Hunt and his associates. Gakuto was almost impatiently forgiving, and Hunt intentionally scheduled Romin last because she seemed the most upset and disappointed by his recent actions.

"Yeah, Romin did call you a bad kid." Rook sucked up a single noodle of his Rush Ramen.

The helm of the nouveau riche had restricted the blood flow to Hunt's head.

"But she was out of line. She spied on us for less. It's not like I'm gonna forget the time she went behind our backs and betrayed us to Roa!"

Hunt could tell from the bite in Rook's voice that he maintained grudges, which didn't bode well for recovery after mass extinction.

"Two-faced! Duplicitous! Traitorous! Backstabber! I could come up with a billion nasty words to describe you and Romin!"

"I'm sorry!" Hunt squeaked.

"Since you bought me seconds, though, I'll overlook your Tomozaurus moment. THIS TIME!"

"I won't do it again!"

"See that you don't." Rook practiced his dismissive backhand. "I'm still angry you gave away my Maximum!"

Who wouldn't be angry at losing access to ultra rare cards that completely warped the tournament rankings?

"Before, you were going to say you care more about money than you do about duelling, weren't you?"

Called out on his greed, Hunt shrank like a plant eater right before being eaten by a carnivore.

"That's okay too."

"Huh?"

"HOWEVER, it can't all be about coins and cash, can it?"

Hunt wasn't following Rook's argument.

"We can change that. Here, take out your cards. Let's Rush Duel!"

Still not understanding, Hunt unpacked his Deck onto the counter. No Duel Disks. Just classic tabletop play.

There was a primacy in Rook's red eyes Hunt whiffed Rook was sending him.

Rook nevertheless blew a Gamma Ray Burst when Hunt brought out his Maximum. Hilarious.

As the more skilled Duelist, he eventually found a strategy around Hunt's Dynarmix, but it was fun both ways.

By helping him re-experience the bare basics of the game, Rook re-educated the upstart why duelling was a better deal than gold hard hats and gold belt buckles. Than all the money in his platinum and gold-piled Jurassic World!
