This is a birthday fic for Ari! Happy Birthday, Ari!
The stadium roared around Luna. She was used to the noise, used to the crowds. She wasn't exactly huge on being surrounded on all sides by people yelling and shouting, but they were all here for a reason similar to her own. They were all here to see Ginny fly, to see Ginny score again and again.
Luna kept her eyes trained on the air above the pitch, watching for Ginny. Mono focused, she could turn out most of the noise, tune out most of the growing claustrophobia. She knew she hadn't always been like this, but after the war, everyone had their little differences, little things that were remnants of the horrible things they'd endured. Ginny was no different, although hearing her talk to the reports one would never realize.
Luna smiled softly, a dreamy expression crossing her face. Ginny appeared so strong most of the time. Luna was sure she was the only one who ever saw the other side of Ginny, the vulnerable side. Ginny would cry at night, screaming out curses and hexes, as if trying to fight off invisible attackers. Luna was always there, both to hold Ginny and to counteract anything she actually managed to fire.
It hadn't surprised Luna in the slightest that Ginny could summon her wand in her sleep and use it. She really was powerful, that whole family was powerful if one gave it much thought. Luna heard the crowd surge and was swept to her feet clapping loudly for the Harpies.
She watched Ginny spiral down, the wind whipping her hair over her huge smile. The Harpies seeker had caught the snitch, they'd won the match. Luna slipped through the crowd, making her way to Ginny. Ginny was leaning against the wall of the dressing room. It had started sprinkling and Luna couldn't help but notice how beautiful Ginny looked with water droplets running down her face, her hair clinging slightly to her pale skin.
"Luna! You made it! I was worried you'd have gotten held up again!"
"I'd never miss a chance to see you play, Ginny, you know that," Luna stated, putting an arm around Ginny's shoulder. Ginny laughed.
"You say that every game."
"And have I missed one yet?" Luna asked, touching her forehead to Ginny's, a gesture that made Ginny's entire body relax.
"No... no, you haven't. I've got to go get changed and then talk to three reporters. After that, I'm all yours again."
"Only three this time?" Luna taunted, thinking about the crowd she'd seen gathering with cameras and quick quote quills.
"Three, I promise," Ginny stated, giving Luna a firm nod.
"I'll be waiting," Luna stated, giving Ginny a quick kiss on the cheek, something so innocent no one ever really noticed. Ginny had spent the last three years keeping her and Luna's relationship out of the papers. Luna wasn't entirely sure how she did it, but a small part of her wished the world knew about them, about how much she loved Ginny.
"You could make it more," Luna said after a moment. "Give them a real scoop to talk about," she added, her blue eyes sparkling with mischief. Ginny blinked.
"And what would that be?" she asked.
"Ginny, we've been together three years, best friends for longer than that, and I know you weren't expecting this. I wasn't either, but right here, right now, it's as if everything is aligned and," Luna bent down and picked a dandelion, twirling the stem into a circle. She held it out to Ginny, "Ginny would you marry me?" she blurted out, letting the words hang in the air for half a second before Ginny threw her arms around Luna.
"Yes, Luna, I'll marry you!" she exclaimed, allowing Luna to put the green ring around Ginny's finger. They kissed quickly as the sky continued to rain, soaking them both. Luna smiled as the kiss broke and Ginny headed to get changed out of her uniform, knowing they'd most likely both be on the front page the next morning, but knowing she'd done exactly the right thing.
