There was that dream again, a dream that wasn't only a dream but a Memory that he had tried so hard to erase from his mind, but that despite of his best efforts still came back to haunt him when he seek a much needed rest.
This time hadn't been the exception. He had tried his best to exhaust himself to the point where he would actually need to sleep the whole night. He had run through the forest in the outskirts of the city all afternoon, right after he had seen her. the image of her still too fresh and clear in his mind eye to pretend that he hadn't, what had struck him the most was the realization that he hadn't forgotten the scent of her even after all those years, immediately recognizing it as her when he had caught wind of it.
She hadn't seen him, thought he really doubted that she hadn't been aware of his presence in that small crowed place, she was a miko, she would have been able to catch up on his youki… unless… unless she had forgotten him…
He shook his head and let out a frustrated sigh. How was it that even after all those years she still had such power over him? Why did he allow her to have it? Well, he knew the answer to that, didn't he? He was the one clinging to that feeling of betrayal and hurt… but deep inside he also knew that was not it… he still felt for her, still longed for her friendship and company, still missed her playful mannerism and fresh laugh… he had still an open wound that he refuse to let heal, ripping off the scab from it with each though of her that he allow himself to reminisce… even after all those years… even after he had sworn to himself to stop doing that… even after he committed himself from the umpteenth time to start anew and don't look back… here he was again, ripping off the bandage and allowing his heart to bleed all the tears that he stubbornly keep at bay, letting his mind pictured her face again, and letting the bittersweet taste of the dream wash over him and weaken him just for now, just for a moment, then he would get up from that bed as if nothing had ever happened, and would go out to face the world and pretend that this shameful moment of pain and weakness never really happened.
He just hope, that he would not have to see her again…
Or maybe, that he would…
Quick note: To those who are also reading my other story: Perfect Mate. I know I have taken a looot of time to update, so much that you might think I have forgotten about it. Let me assure you that I haven't, I've been working on chapter 22 but there is something that doesn't feel right about it just yet, I have been rewriting it so many times now that I feel frustrated with myself. so I thought, why don't try and write something different to get rid of the sudden block, and here you have this short fic. I hope it's of your liking and you give it a try while I work on updating Perfect mate.
Thank you for taking your time and reading this. Please tell me what you think!
