Chapter One: Possibly Polyjuice
It was the beginning of their fourth year in Harry Potter's life at Hogwarts. The ebony had been grateful to merely sit with his friends at the Gryffindor table and relax without worrying about some being trying to murder him, or specifically, without worrying that Voldemort was planning something.
Harry had a gut feeling that day. The kind of feeling that he knew meant that this year would turn into another adventure, but somehow, the fear and anticipation that came with fighting for his life had disappeared. He was rather eager this time.
Harry grinned when his loyal friend Ronald Weasley pushed a small bowed box towards him, "Happy Belated Birthday mate."
Harry beamed, but didn't open the present as yet. There was a high possibility that it contained pranks from the Weasley twin, so just to be on the safe side, the gift would be unraveled after breakfast.
Hermione hadn't made a show at the table as yet. She claimed to have something to discuss with Ginny, and no one questioned them when they skipped breakfast.
Harry didn't mind. A very interesting conversation about the latest Quidditch gossip had taken the spotlight. Even the usually quiet Neville Longbottom had put in his opinion that the last game ended quite unfairly.
A loud cheer erupted from the Slytherin table, and Harry couldn't resist the urge to turn and stare. Once again, the one and only Draco Malfoy was at the center of attention, most likely bragging about some feat over the summer.
The blonde boy looked different. Harry squinted, it was a minuscule difference, but it still bugged him. Something was… off.
Malfoy turned to Harry, and they made eye contact. Harry stared into those grey eyes, they were the same color, but something wasn't right.
Draco Malfoy's eyes were cunning, challenging or at times stoic. Draco Malfoy's eyes weren't lively, mischievous and they certainly didn't look at Harry in such a curious and playful way!
Harry blinked twice, resisting the urge to rub his eyes.
Then Draco Malfoy winked at Harry. The ebony's jaw hung.
But when Harry blinked again, Draco Malfoy stood from the table and excused himself. Harry's eyes followed him. When Malfoy turned around, he made it very obvious to Harry when he smirked and gave a playful grin.
That confirmed it. It was certainly a Polyjuice potion at work! Malfoy would never let such emotions show, to Harry Potter of all persons. Malfoy had a reputation to keep up…
Harry blinked, but he was gone.
Disappeared. Not even a trace of smoke.
Harry stared at the blank space for at least a minute, until he saw a very familiar blonde figure enter the room. This time, when Draco Malfoy glared at him, everything was right there as it should be. Especially when Harry felt the annoyance spike in his mind.
Harry tore his eyes away, and attempted to enter the conversation at his table again. Luckily for him, if anyone had noticed the occurrence before, they didn't question it.
Before Harry could even take a bite of his breakfast, he felt the tremendous urge to use the loo. It couldn't be ignored, so Harry excused himself and walked out of the room.
Author's Note: I wonder who that was.
