Chapter 0: The Beginning Of Tragedies

It all began that one night, I was reading books on a pretty average night. I don't really remember what books I was reading, all I remember is that it was enough to catch my interest. There was one minor detail that I do remember though. It was a character that was named Liam, he was the son of a god in which he became strong enough to fight the demon god that took home in Ars Goetia.

It was pretty interesting to me that someone that wanted to destroy the world, turned into a complete badass of a character that even overcame the demon god himself.. It really made me think, even though I'm a normal human, could I possibly become strong enough to protect the world?

So far, I'm twenty years into my life, and I haven't even been able to get a girlfriend.. Like come on man will anybody even take me out on one singular date?! It's pretty stupid how nobody even likes me.. It's almost as if I'm a damn nobody!

As far as that goes though.. I can say that I'm not that good of a mage at least. All this mage stuff really messes with my head and I just can't figure it out! A few of my friends apparently are really good with magic, and became pretty good mages which is pretty neat If I say so myself. What about me though? Will I ever become a good enough mage?

I'm the only one left in my family anymore, which really brings down the mood. Even if I did become a good enough mage to graduate, will there be anyone to congratulate me?

No, I don't think so. I think the only few people that would congratulate me would be my few friends that I'm not even sure if they're real friends at this point! At the very least, if I do end up graduating, I'll be able to help people out with tasks that normal humans won't be able to do.

At least.. I thought that was going to happen. Long before I could even get close to graduating, some strange man gave me a so-called "ancient relic" that once belonged to someone by the name of Emiya. The supposed ancient relic was a combat knife that looks like it's been through hell itself.. Literally.. It looked very fragile, almost like it could break by me barely touching it.

My question is, why was I given this? What the hell is the reasoning behind this? Who even is Emiya? I remember the man telling me something along the lines that this relic will be used in the holy grail war that will take place in two years. Now, I do know what the holy grail war is, but why would I of all people be able to take place in it? I'm a literal mediocre mage that can barely even cast a simple spell!

As soon as I even did get given this ancient relic, weird things have been happening. For example, I've been hearing somebody talk to me, telling me that they'll be summoned in the holy grail war. Along that, people have been literally attacking me attempting to steal this relic! Luckily in the past, I've been trained in martial arts so I can't be beaten so easily.

My name is Kiri, I'm a mediocre mage that can barely even cast a simple spell, but yet got given an ancient relic that apparently belonged to Emiya?! I still don't even know who Emiya is!

Now, I wonder what my family would think of me if I did participate in this holy grail war. It's been so long since I've been able to even see my family that it's not even a joke. I can't even believe that they were all killed all those years ago by one singular person.. How he even killed my uncle is something that's surprising as it is. My uncle was pretty special and he participated in many human wars, which are completely different from holy grail wars.

I'm not even sure who the person is that killed my family, but I swear that I'll get revenge for them, and kill that man or woman no matter what..

One day when I was practicing magecraft, I suddenly got called out by someone that I didn't find familiar whatsoever. Yet they knew my name and almost everything about me. "Kiri, that relic you have.. It'll be used to summon two strong servants.. Use them to fight against the man that killed your family.. Use them Kiri, to fight and win this holy war.." Those were the exact words that the voice said to me. It was strange, and I was quite surprised at hearing someone actually invite me to the holy grail war.

I looked at my hand at that very moment, as I realized that I didn't only have one hand that had command seals on it, but both of them had command seals which was strange because there's usually only meant to be one hand with command seals

The voice did say something about two servants, so that's what I thought. I have two servants so of course I'll have three command seals for each.

While still practicing magecraft, a portal got opened which wasn't opened by me. The portal was literally pulling me into it, and I couldn't fight against it. No matter what I tried, the portal was still pulling me into it. I was really worried about what was going to happen, but when I got fully put into the portal it was not what I was expecting.

Through the portal, it was pretty colorful. The only problem is, that it was just land. There was nothing else but land and pretty colors in the sky. I wasn't sure if I just was unlucky enough to get put into an open space or what!

Where I ended up, there were many trees but other than that there was literally nothing. No animals, no people, no plants, literally only trees and ground. It's crazy, I know but I'm not making this up.

From what I heard though before I got brought into this land, is that the place we're in is where the holy grail war is taking place. If that's true, then I wonder what type of people I'll encounter and what servants they'll have. Actually, where even is my servant? I don't have the relic anymore, so I can't use that to summon my servant so now I just have to hope that he appears?!

"Master, we've been waiting for your arrival for quite some time now." I hear voices. It's almost as if the voices are literally right behind me, but as soon as I look back, there's nobody there?! I attempt to shout out, but my lips feel like they can't move at all. It's a weird feeling but that's literally how it is.

"Master, I wouldn't recommend shouting. I know you can't see us but there's no need to shout about it. You'll be able to meet us soon. This grail war is a little different from the other ones.. As you can tell by getting transported to this weird dimension. This dimension is a dimension where heroic spirits take place, waiting for new masters to fight in the holy grail war.. It's been almost a million years since the last holy grail war in a matter of a fact.."

"What caused the holy grail war this time..? If there hasn't been a war in a million years.."

"God wanted us to have a war.. Is there anything else to it?" The servant supposedly says that god wants us to have a war for the grail, but what god even is there exactly? I really don't believe in a supposed god but I suppose that I'll have to wait to see if what he says is true.

"What do you even mean by 'us'? Is there more than one servant?"

"There's me, which is the one you're talking to. I'm an archer known as Emiya Shirou. Then there's assassin Emiya. We are both your servants. You may think you're a mediocre mage, but in our eyes you are suitable to be our master."

You know, this is pretty crazy to be a master of a holy grail war which I never imagined I would be able to take place in. Now, there is something that I've been wondering about ever since I got dragged into the portal. Is the person that killed my family also a master for this war?

The voice asked if I wanted to get revenge against the man that killed my family, which would be a strange question to ask if he wasn't a master correct?

Aside from that, I ask Emiya if there's a town anywhere nearby and they surprisingly answer saying that there's a town directly to the west of me which is where they are.
