Chapter 1: Welcome To Green Hill Academy
Green Hill Academy was built twelve years ago by notorious politician, Maximilian Acorn, as a gift to his wife, Alicia Acorn. Due to his demanding job keeping him away and the children growing up and becoming more independent, his wife found herself depressed with feelings of unfulfillment. The school was his idea, believing that all she needed was a little hobby to keep her busy and to stop her nagging.
The school was built in the middle of the country, in a rural area about two hours from the nearest city, surrounded completely by a beautiful forest with the exception of a single, long, dirt road that served as the only connection from the school to the outside world. Being located in the middle of the country made it accessible for students from all over to apply, creating a very diverse student body. The secluded location being so far away from city life made it easy for students to put all their energy and focus solely into school life.
All the necessities were right there on campus. There was a large cafeteria with tall ceilings that served three nutritious meals a day and also doubled as a store to buy any extra snacks or drinks. There were two separate buildings out front across from one another that served as a boys' dormitory and a girls' dormitory, both of them identical on the inside with eggshell white walls and beige tiled flooring. They both had several bedrooms big enough to house up to three students each. A special room on the first floor by the check in area and lounge was designed for the dorm advisors. The main building stood much taller and much larger between the two smaller dormitories. That's where the classrooms, indoor pool, gymnasium, auditorium, Infirmary, staff room, and main office were located. Behind the main building was a large football field with bleachers on either side and a track encircling it for the runners.
It truly was a breathtakingly beautiful campus. The buildings were grand, all made from the same red brick and light wood trim with sets of staircases leading to large doors with glass windows. Cobblestone pathways outlined the square shape of the courtyard out front and connected each building to the large, beautiful water fountain in the center of the campus. The only thing unpleasant to the eye were the bars that sat in front of every window, resembling windows of a prison. It was an odd design choice requested by Maximilian, believing that to be the best preventative measure for accidental falls. Nonetheless, the campus was still a sight to behold.
Maximilian's attempt at curing his wife's depression by building a school for her to invest her time in proved to be successful. Alicia found all the happiness and fulfillment she could ever ask for in being a mother and a working woman. Instead of being happy that his plan worked and that his wife was finding happiness and success in her new career, Maximilian became bitter, angry, and envious.
Within its first two years of running, Green Hill Academy became the number one school in the country, receiving immense praise for its diversity, wide array of programs, and its incredible graduation percentage rate. The application process quickly became competitive, parents fighting tooth and nail to get their children into the prestigious school. Alicia Acorn and her school became the talk of the country, leaving her husband very jealous with feelings of regret over allowing her to become anything more than a homemaker, something he personally believed to be the only place for a woman.
Things between them finally boiled over when people began to attribute the success of his political campaign and secured position as mayor of Moebius to the success of his wife's career and reputation. Feeling emasculated, he demanded she quit. When she refused, the two began to fight frequently, putting an extreme amount of emotional stress on their young children. Eventually, neither of them could stand each other anymore and headed for divorce as well as a heated custody battle.
Living in Moebius was very inconvenient to Alicia, it being one of the furthest cities away from the school she was running, as well as one of the most dangerous cities in the country, and now run by her tyrant of an ex-husband to top it all off. Once the divorce was finalized, she moved away to the much more pleasant city of Mobotropolis, the closest city to Green Hill Academy.
Unfortunately, the courts had only awarded her sole legal custody of their son, seven year old Elias Acorn, and only allowed her to take him with her. Despite the grief she felt over her broken family, Alicia decided to put all her energy into work to create something positive and to distract her from the pain.
Ten years later, Green Hill Academy is still the number one school in the county with the highest graduation percentage rate and virtually no incidents to speak of...
Until this year.
A short and sweet introduction chapter to familiarize you with the school, a bit of its history, and give you a small glimpse into the dynamic of the separated Acorn family.
Now that we've got the stage set, next chapter will focus on the students of Green Hill Academy and their families.
I know this chapter wasn't much, but we've gotta get that world building out of the way! So these first couple chapters are just to get you familiar with the world and characters before we really dive in to the dramatic tale of Green Hill Academy.
As of right now, I currently don't have a set upload schedule so be sure to check back in from time to time just in case I get spontaneous and drop another chapter out of the sky.
I promise I will have an upload schedule figured out soon. And I promise next chapter will be much more interesting.
Until next time!
