Prologue
For six years, Jenny Wakeman was the protector of the Earth. Representing the life's work of Dr. Nora Wakeman, Robotic Global Response Unit XJ-9, or Jenny, as the unit preferred to be called, was the most sophisticated automaton the world had ever seen; the culmination of the XJ line she'd spent most of the 1980s through '90s developing. Dr. Wakeman's hope was not only to create a sentient artificial lifeform, but one with the capabilities to protect humankind from threats domestic, foreign and even extra-terrestrial.
Dr. Wakeman succeeded.
World governments were caught completely off guard when Wakeman's gynoid superheroine emerged from Tremorton in 2003. Jenny was outfitted with every conceivable tool and weapon known to science, from rocket boots to ray gun and outfitted with super strength, super reflexes, super speed—the list goes on. With an advanced cybernetic mind and enough firepower to take over a small country, she was a technological marvel that both inspired and threatened people around the world.
When creating Jenny, Dr. Wakeman did something that continues to puzzle her peers to this day. She built this awesome weapon system around an artificial intelligence. To be precise, when Dr. Wakeman began work on what would become her crowning achievement, she decided to give RGRU XJ-9 the personality of a sixteen-year-old girl. Indeed, the artificial sentience that directed the gynoid was near perfect in its recreation of the hormonal rollercoaster of adolescence. While many parents are hesitant to hand over their car keys to their teen, Dr. Wakeman put the fate of the entire world on the shoulders of a robot that would skip school if her paint was scuffed, or her belly bolt's shine didn't catch the light just right.
Dr. Wakeman never explained why she chose to make her mechanical daughter in this peculiar decision was validated by the results. It has to be said, being made of metal, standing over six feet six inches tall and weighing over six-hundred pounds, Jenny never could reasonably pass as an ordinary girl, but that didn't stop her from attending high school, making friends, and listening to all the hottest boybands just like her human peers, all while still having time to stop hostile aliens from annihilating all of humanity.
This was Jenny Wakeman. A one-of-kind technologic extraordinaire who'd go rollerblading with her friends down by the mall minutes after stopping a monster from destroying the city. For six years she was the pinnacle of human creation and undisputed champion of the Earth; a shining Valkyrie protecting the Earth from every threat the universe devised to squash the vulnerable planet.
Those six years ended fifteen years ago.
