Meeting Dami For the First Time

It was just a typical Friday night at Wayne Manor, except the fact that everyone was gone and the only people there where Dick and Alfred.

Now usually the residents, Bruce, Dick, Jason, Tim and Alfred, were all home on Friday nights but tonight was a exception. They all had to do something that night, Bruce had business with the JLA, Jason and Tim also had business with JLA and Dick well, he didn't have anything so he just stayed at the Manor.

So it was just Dick and Alfred who were there to help watch and make sure Gotham stayed safe.

All of the rest of the family wasn't going to be back till after the weekend so it was going to be a very quiet two days, or so they thought.

Ding dong! The doorbell rang throughout the large house.

"I'll get it Alfred!" Dick said as he got off the couch.

Since he was a lot closer to the door then Alfred at the moment it was only natural for the closest person to get the door. Dick then heard a shout from across the Manor.

"Thank you Master Dick!"

Dick then replied back, "I'm closer anyways," as he continued to the door.

"Hello," Dick said as he opened the door with a smile, "what brings you to Wayne Manor?"

"Hello, Beloved."

Dick's eyes widened at the sound of the voice he had just heard and recognized it. He instantly changed, from charming and carefree to cold and analytical.

He looked at her and saw that she was in a long black cloak covering her face with her usual assassin clothes underneath.

He curiously wondered if she was hiding something behind or in the cloak she was wearing. Dick looked at the cloak and it moved for a split second.

Wait, did the cloak move or was it just my imagination? Dick thought and looked back to face the woman.

"What do you want Talia?" He asked in emotionless monotone voice, already extrapolating theories as to why she is there tonight.

She just smirked and pulled the hood off exposing her stunning green eyes and long brown hair.

"Well Beloved, I am here to give you something that belongs to you." She said carefully.

He looked at her skeptically. Nothing good ever come from Talia he thought, but Dick reclusively agreed to see what she had.

Talia, looking solemnly, frowned and Dick noticed she was hesitant about whatever she was about to do, which made Dick on edge.

"My father will not allow me to keep her," she said with a emotionless voice, "so I came to you in hopes you will, she is yours after all."

Dick was about to question what she meant when Talia suddenly sidestepped and grabbed her cape to reveal a small little girl.

The girl had dark black hair that was styled down making it reach her shoulders with bright blue eyes that looked oddly similar to his. She was wearing a black sleeve shirt and black pants with bright red Converse.

She looked absolutely adorable, except the fact that she was crossing her arms and glaring daggers at him, but Dick didn't mind she was still super cute.

Dick was about to ask more about why there was a little girl in front of him till Talia beat him to it.

"This is your spawn Beloved. Her name is Damian Al Ghul, but I suppose you could change that since I'm no longer able to continue raising her. She is as of now only 4 years of age."

Dick eyes went wide with shock and looked like he was about to faint.

I have a freaking daughter you never told me about! Dick thought angrily.

He then looked at the little girl again and now noticed the similarities they both had.

She had his eyes and his dark black hair. She was a spitting image of him at that age, it was uncanny and unmistakeable, she was his daughter no doubt.

"Why did you name her Damian," Dick asked with pure curiosity, "traditional it's a boy name right?"

Dick was expecting to hear Talia answer but instead he hears Damian behind her.

"It's because names are gender less." She said in a adorable high pitch voice, crossing her arms.

Since she was still so young she still had trouble pronouncing some of the words so it sounded very cute.

"Sorry just curious I didn't mean any offense by it," Dick says as he smiles embarrassed, "I really like it though, honest." He finishes with a bright steady voice.

"Tt," Damian looks at him skeptically, "this imbecile is my father?"

Talia looks down at her sternly.

"Yes, but you should do well to respect him," she smirked, "he is very skilled fighter in battle."

"Yes, mother."

After Damian agreed to her mother it didn't take long before she left both father and daughter alone. She said a quick "bye" to Damian before running off to the wall.

Dick couldn't believe that Talia just did that to her own daughter.

Just disowned her like nothing, like she was a just a tool for her. She didn't show any signs of affection of any sort or proof that she even loved Damian at all.

Dick just watched as Talia jumped over the wall and disappeared into the night. Dick turned his attention to Damian as she frowned as her mother left.

Dick could tell she was holding back tears in her eyes. He just wanted to just scoop her up and tell her it was ok to cry, but he didn't want to frighten the girl any father at the moment, so he just stood there in silence with her.

The silence went on for a whole minute of them just standing next to each other avoiding eye contact.

Till Dick finally said, "come on, let's go inside."

Damian just stood there pouting.

"I'm fine. I will just stand out here."

Wow her personality really doesn't match her age or her personality, Dick thought sadly, how did they raise her in the League of Assassins?

Dick then smirked and put his hands on his hips, he had an idea.

"Really? Okay it's kinda cold out there, you sure?"

"Yes, I don't get cold." She stated confidently.

But Dick could clearly see she was shivering from the cold and windy Friday night in Gotham.

Then Dick thought, well she was raised in a place where it got over 100 degrees most times, cold wasn't exactly something she was accustomed to.

Dick sighed and walked over to the girl. He gently picked her up much to the girl surprise, and began walking towards the door.

"Put me down!" She yelled at her father, struggling to get free.

"Nope, not going to happen. I don't need you to get a cold after your first night of being here." He stated.

Damian continued struggling even after Dick locked the door with his free hand and walked into the living room.

"Father, I demanded you let me go this instant!" Damian continued, anger clear in her voice.

She just called me father! Dick thought happily.

But Dick didn't budge. He just stood there in silence wanting for the girl to give up. I mean how long could a 4 year old do this for?

After 10 minutes Alfred came in the living room to find Dick and Damian sitting on the couch with Damian still struggling in Dick's arms and Dick with a bored expression on his face.

"My word!" Alfred said surprised to see Dick with a 4 year in his arms, "who's this little tyke?"

Dick just smiled brightly.

"This is my daughter Dami. Talia left me with my 4 year old daughter whom I've never meet before to raise on my own." Dick said in a strained smile.

I mean he didn't hate Damian, in fact quite the opposite he loved her, but it was just a lot of information and it was overwhelming to Dick. He had to accept the fact that he had a daughter.

Alfred looked down at Damian, who had still not given up struggling, in his lap.

Damian looked up slightly and saw the man. She paused for a second trying to get a better look at the man. She opens her mouth to speak, surprising both Dick and Alfred when she started to talk.

"Pennyworth, I presume." She says as she extended a hand.

Dick and Alfred were both in shock. How could this little girl know Alfred's name.

"H-how did you know Alfred's name, sweetie?" Dick asked still in shock.

"Mother told me all about father's family," she sated proudly, "and don't. Call. Me. Sweetie." Ending with a hint of anger in her voice.

Dick smirked, she was so cute when she gets mad.

"Alright, honey!"

After Damian had finally given up fighting Dick she slumped against him finally out of energy to fight. Dick let's the toddler rest her head against his chest, happy that she found it safe for her to lean on him. Dick looked down at his daughter and grinned happily. He then checked the time on the clock.

10:30 pm. It's a good time to put Dami to sleep. Dick thought, noticing the tiered girl battle against sleep.

She did fight me for like 3 hours, which in its self is impressive for her age.

Dick carefully maneuvered Damian into a more comfortable position and took off her shoes. So now her head was on his shoulder and her body laying on top of his, Dick leaned back so she could lay on him in a more relaxed posture.

Dick then started rubbing circles on her back and humming an old lullaby. It was the same one his mother use to sing to him on sleepless nights.

"What are you doing father, " Damian asked half asleep, barely able to look up at her father face, "what is that noise?"

Dick looked down at his daughter with a soft smile and she looked at him confused.

"It's called humming." Dick said softly.

He then thought about how he was suppose to explain humming to a 4 year old.

"It's umm... suppose to help you sleep... I guess."

"But, I'm not sleepy." She countered with a pout.

Dick gave a small chuckle.

"Sure you aren't."

Damian then yawned and blushed slightly from embarrassment. Dick just smiled at how cute she was and softly ruffled her hair. Damian nuzzled at her father's show of affection, liking the warmth he gave off when doing so.

She had never been treated this way before and the whole experience was new to her. She would hate to admit it but she liked the attention her father was giving her, It felt so warm and sincere, a feeling she never felt before.

Dick was if anything relived, that Damian liked him. He had this deep dark, immense, fear that she hate him. It scared him to death, even though they had just meet. It was probably a fear every parent also had as well.

Now that Dick thinks about it he realized that Damian has had a rough life so far and it takes time for her to warm up to people due to the fact.

Dick snapped out of his thoughts when he felt the weight on his shoulder shift.

Damian had finally fallen asleep and Dick shifted her again into a more comfortable position and kissed the top of her head.

"Love you Dami." He whispered softly into her hair.

An hour later after Damian fell asleep Alfred quietly walked up to the two.

Dick had decided to quietly read while Damian was asleep, so he had a tablet in one hand and nothing in the other. Every few minutes he would start stroking her hair then minutes later stop and start again.

Dick quite liked stroking her hair, it was calming in his opinion.

"Master Dick, I did the test you requested and indeed confirmed that Miss Damian here is your biological daughter." Alfred whispered with a soft smile.

Dick looked over at Alfred and whispered back, "I never had any doubt," He then looked down at the sleeping toddler on his shoulder, "I knew right when I saw her she was mine."

Alfred also looked at the toddler fondly. "Master Bruce will be shocked by the turn of events this weekend."

A pause.

"Oh crap, I forgot about everyone else!" Dick said panic rising in his voice.

At the sudden outburst of emotion Damian groaned, agitated at the movement. Making Dick immediately start calming down, not wanting to wake the sleeping toddler.

"I'm sure they will all love Miss Damian." Alfred said with a reassuring smile.

Dick thought about carefully.

I mean why wouldn't they except the fact that I have a daughter? She is adorable, and also mine.

"Yeah your right Alfi, as always. They'll love her... Also we have all of this weekend for her to get settled in to meet them."

The next morning Damian awoke to find herself still laying on top of her father with her head on his shoulder. She sat up tiredly, rubbing the sleepiness out of her eyes.

Dick noticed the shift in weight and put his arms around the sleepy toddler snuggling her close again, much to her dismay.

"Father, I would like you to release me." Damian said in her cute high pitch voice.

Dick just sighed still not letting the girl out of his arms.

"But it's still dark outside," He whined tiredly, "try and go beck to sleep Dami."

After a moment of struggling she sighed knowing it was hopeless to escape and gave up.

"Fine I will try. But I'm usually up training already with mother at this time in the morning."

What mother starts training a 4 year old this early in the morning, Dick thought, it's like 4 am.

Soon as Damian closed her eyes again she fell almost instantly back asleep.

After about three hours later Dick decided it was a decent time for them to get up, so he got off the couch and headed for the kitchen, Damian still sleeping in his arms.

When they entered the room they were meet by Alfred cooking pancakes on the stove.

"Good morning Master Dick, Miss Damian." He said politely.

Dick waved with his free arm and replied back happily, "morning Alfi!"

At all the noise going on around her Damian yawned and woke up, still a bit tired.

"Morning sleepyhead." Dick said ruffling her hair softly.

Damian just glared at her father's antics and asked, "what is that smell?"

"Alfred's cooking pancakes on the stove." He answered.

Damian tilted her head in confusion.

"What are these pancakes you speak of?"

Dick gasped and his eyes went wide in surprise.

"You've never had pancakes before," he said loudly, "like at all?"

What kid 4 year old kid hasn't had pancakes before!? Dick thought in a daze.

Damian was now very concerned and confused as to why her father reacted this way. So she never had them before, what's the big deal?

"No, am I suppose to have?"

"Oh Dami, you poor baby." Dick said as he hugged the toddler tightly and then continued, "they are really good, especially if you put syrup on them."

"Do they have sugar in them?" Damian then asks.

"Some I suppose, why?"

"Mother only allowed me to eat healthy foods with nutritional values, so I was not given anything made with sugar, like these pancakes you speak of."

Well I guess that makes sense you did live with the League of Assassins.

Dick sighed and put Damian down on a bar stool.

"Stay here okay Little D, daddy's going to be right back."

Damian just crossed her arms with a pout.

Great another nickname besides the one he already gave me. Also now he is referring himself in third person. She thought bitterly as he walked away.

"Tt."

Dick then walked to the other side of the kitchen to the fridge. He opens it and looked inside at the contents it contained.

He wanted to get something for Damian to drink since she hasn't had anything in the whole time she had been at Wayne Manor.

"Hey Dami," Dick said looking over his shoulder at the girl, "what would you like to drink?"

"Tea. Hot."

The answer surprised Dick, but he agreed to have Alfred make some for her. He couldn't make her change all her habits all at once he decided. It was going to be a slow process of transitioning her to more normal things for kids her age.

After Damian got her tea and Dick his orange juice, Alfred came up to were they where sitting at the bar and placed plates with eggs, bacon and pancakes in front of them.

"Thanks Alfi!" Dick said digging in to the food.

Everything Alfred ever made was always delicious. So no surprise the food was great.

Damian just stared at the plate in front of her, looking at the different foods it held on it.

Dick turned to face his daughter.

"What do you tell Alfred."

Damian glared at him but obeyed the hint.

"Thank you Pennyworth."

Alfred gave a pleased smile and said, "you're quite welcome."

Well they were slowly getting there I suppose. Dick thought.

Alfred then turned and left the two in the kitchen to finish their breakfast.

Damian looked down curiosity at the pancake on her plate and poked it with her fork. It was covered with syrup and butter and smelled really sweet.

The toddler then cut, with Dick's help, a tiny piece of pancake off and took a bite.

Dick watched as the whole thing went down. It was so adorable watching the girl react to eating the pancake.

She took a bite and immediately her eyes went wide and had a smile on her face. Dick couldn't resist and took a picture of her while she was smiling with syrup all over mouth and hands. Turned out Damian really liked pancakes with syrup on them.

Definitely putting that in a scrape book. Dick decided.

After finishing all the pancakes on her plate Damian tried to get up off the bar stool to wash up, but instead was stopped by her father picking her up.

"I could have got down by my self." She insisted.

"I know you could have, but daddy likes it better if he just did it for you. It's safer." Dick says as they head over to the kitchen sink to clean up.

It was a long fall if you got off the chair incorrectly and Dick didn't want that to happen. So he picked her up instead.

Ever since he had started taking care of Damian Dick thought about all the dangers of the world for a small 4 year old child. There were a lot of things that Dick hadn't thought about before, how dangerous they actually were to children, and had developed a sort of maternal instinct to protect his child. Even if she insisted she could do it herself.

Damian started to protest as her father sat her down on the counter and helped clean off her mouth and hands.

"I didn't need your help, I was perfectly capable of doing it myself." She stated after he finished.

"Dami how many times do we have to go through this," he said tired of her protesting, "I'm going to help you no matter how much you protest or disagree. Your my daughter and my responsibility. It's my job to help you even if you don't need it, that's the job of being a parent, understand?"

Damian just looked at the floor finding the slick white tile very interesting now.

Dick sighed softly and lifted her chin up. He looked her right in the eyes. It was like they were mirrors staring right up back at him, her blue eyes were so very much like his.

"Understand?" He asked again this time much softer.

"Understood." She answer back in a soft tone, meeting his eyes.

Dick leaned down and kissed the top of her head and whispered, "love you Dami."

Damian just turned her head looking to the side not wanting her father to see her face at the moment, red with embarrassment.

"Love you too, daddy." She mumble under her breath, barely audible.

But Dick heard it and lit up. He was overjoyed to hear her say that to him. She had just called him the cutest and most childish thing he ever heard her say. Dick wished she would call him that more often but knowing her this was probably one of the only times, if ever, he would hear her say it.

Dick smiled widely picking the girl up and started spinning her around in his arms. The toddler grabbed on tightly to her father's shirt, scared, as he did.

"S-stop doing t-that!" She stuttered closing her eyes, getting dizzy.

Dick ignored her and just keep spinning till he too got dizzy. By then Damian was holding on for dear life shutting her eyes tightly, wanting it to be over.

"That was fun!" Dick exclaimed as they walked into the living room.

"N-no, it really wasn't." Damian countered disoriented.

Dick sat down on the couch with a plop and sat Damian right next to him.

Damian slowly got off the couch and tried walking towards the hallway. She made it about halfway till she leaned to much to the left and fell.

Stupid father making me dizzy. Damian thought bitterly.

Dick laughed and walked over to the fallen toddler. "How about I show you your room?" Asked the dazed girl.

Damian nodded and Dick picked her up.

"Can you please let me walk with my own two feat." She practically bagged him.

Dick put the girl down at her request, but held her hand instead.

Damian sent a cold hard glare at him, but he remained unaffected by it. The reason behind it was because of the many years Bruce had done the same to him. He had grown accustomed to being glared at constantly.

Dick just grinned and began pulling Damian along the hallway.

"Tt."

They soon reached Dick's bedroom and on the other side was Bruce's followed by Tim's and then Jason's. Damian's room was going to be on the other side of Dick's room to the left. He had insisted on having her right next to his.

Before he showed her room to her Dick first showed her his room, which was full of junk and untested gadgets.

Dick had a habit of messing around with some old gadgets and making pretty good pranking devices out of them.

Damian liked looking at all his old posters on the walls, in particularly one with the Flying Grayson on the trapeze. The toddler inspected it carefully and finally came to the conclusion that she recognized it had her father in it.

"That's you right," She pointed to the small boy mid air over the crowd, "and that's your parents." She said looking over at two young looking adults on both sides of the poster.

Dick walked over and looked at the poster. It brought back so many painful memories, but also a whole lot of good ones as well.

"Yes that's me," he said with a soft smile and sadness in his eyes, "and those are your grandparents."

Damian looked at her father's expression and could tell they were gone from this world. Damian knew the look in people's eyes gave when they were filled with sadness and sorrow from the death of someone close. She had learned from an early age that no matter how sincere or cold someone looked on the outside you could always tell their true feelings or intentions by the look in their eyes.

Right now the only thing Damian saw in his eyes was sadness and grief. She now felt genuine regret for bringing them up.

Damian slowly walked over to him and said, "I'm sorry, I did not know they were gone."

Dick looked down at the sorry looking toddler and ruffled her hair.

"Don't worry about it okay," he said gently, "they would've loved to meet you if they were still here."

After they talked about Dick being in the circus for a couple minutes they headed into Damian's room.

It was a big and spacious room with large windows on the back wall, making it easy to see the huge backyard behind it. Damian walked around inspecting every inch of the room, making sure it had acceptable escape routes for any unexpected incidents.

Dick looked around and decided that they needed to go shopping. Damian only had come with the clothes she was wearing and one other outfit in her backpack along with her katana and a few other knives.

Through all the madness that happened last night Dick had completely missed the backpack behind the girl when they first meet, and left it out there all night.

Luckily Alfred needed to get the morning paper and had brought it in earlier. It currently was now on her bed.

"Hey Little D," Dick called, "you want to go shopping?"

She turned to answer him.

"No."

"Aww come on Dami, it'll be fun." He whined.

"No." She shot back again.

"Well to bad because we're going." He said picking the toddler up.

"I hate you." She said bitterly, but they both knew it wasn't true and she didn't actually mean it.

"Sure you do." He said happily.

Hours later Dick returned with several shopping bags and a exhausted toddler in his arms. He then started putting all the things they bought away in Damian room.

The young toddler was currently playing with her newly acquired drawing pad and pencils.

At the store Dick noticed her eyeing the drawing section and said she could pick some stuff out. After hearing those words she eagerly walked over, and was amazed by all the different things she could pick.

Her mother never really allowed her to draw a lot unless it was a special occasion or she did well on a training assignment.

So she had just picked out a few things, deciding not to go all out. She bought drawing pads, pencils, pens and some watercolor paints.

Dick was pleasantly surprised when the girl keep looking over at the art section at the store. But was happy he had finally found something the little girl liked to do for a hobby besides training and having an attitude.

Right after Dick paid Damian wanted to leave immediately. It had been a long few hours of hell and she wanted to leave badly. So they packed up everything and hit the road.

"There we are," Dick said setting down all the shopping bags, "now we need to put it all away before we do anything else."

Damian came in right behind him and said, "could you leave."

Dick looked over at her confused.

"Why?"

"Because, I would like to put everything away myself."

Dick not wanting to make the girl upset, agreed.

"Okay fine, but I will be back to check up on you later." Dick said as he closed the door.

Damian watched as he closed the door and began putting everything away.

"Tt."

A few hours pass by and Dick came to check on Damian like promised, only to find that everything was put away nice and neatly in all of the drawers.

Dick looked around in shock. Everything was perfect and spotless around the room. The only thing out of place was a variety of art supplies that sat on the desk in the corner of the room. Which Damian was currently drawing at.

Dick walked over to the girl and looked at what she was drawing. Before he even got a glimpse of the sketch it was hastily flipped to the cover.

He then looked up to meet a glaring toddler.

"Hey... Dami... how's it... going there?" He asked nervously.

"Fine." Was all her response as she started straightening up the desk.

Dick looked around the room in silence letting the girl put her stuff away before talking to her.

After she finished putting them away Dick said, "I just wanted to check on you and tell you that it's your bedtime."

Damian just crossed her arms.

"Tt. Alright father, goodnight."

"W-wait!" Dick exclaimed as he was being ushered to the door by the young toddler.

Damian stoped for a moment.

"What?"

"I love you Dami, goodnight." He said as he quickly kissed the girl on the head.

Turning beet red, Damian turned away from her father embarrassed by the words of endearment.

Satisfied with the reaction he got, Dick closed the door and left.

She is so cute when she gets flustered or mad.

Was his only thought as he left the blushing girl.

To be continued in part two...
