His routine was monotonous.
He woke up, exercised, ate a carefully meassured meal, bathed and went ahead to work, only to come back to his appartment, eat, bathe and go to sleep.
Every day, every month, every year, his routine didn't change.
From an outsider's perspective this would seem maddening, "doing the same thing over and over is the definition of insanity" some would say, "I couldn't live like that" others would add, but the truth was that his routine not only was monotonous.
But also common.
He was a regular man, if not a bit more stoic than normal, disastrous events that had plagued his family required him to be, he looked around and saw so many people, so many men and women, and in the end.
They were all just like him.
Tired and lonely.
Overworked and isolated.
Surrounded by people and despite being practically similar to one another, they couldn't relate in the slightest.
"Others wouldn't get how hard I have it" they would think to themselves, these thoughts would never be voiced out loud for they knew deep inside that this wasn't the case, there was always someone having a worse time.
And so life continued, uncaring and unforgiving.
So monotonous for some, and so insufferable for others.
"Oops, sorry!"
"Dude, stop pushing me, or imma get angry."
"Oooh, the little gremlin has some fight in him!"
"Shut up!"
"Hahahahaha!"
Taken out of his musings the man turned around and saw a high school aged kid playing around with his friend.
Laughing and without a care in the world, that's what people called youth.
'Was I ever that happy when I was their age?'
"Dude, I'm telling ya, stop-"
"Whoops, I slipped!"
The teen got tangled with his own feet and started falling, a car was approaching in the distance with what seemed like a sleeping man behind the wheel, the slippery floor from last night's snow made no resistance to keep the teen standing, instead, it facilitated gravity's work and pushed him towards the street.
It was one of those few cases that could be called the perfect storm.
"Oh shit!"
He wasn't a hero.
He wasn't some kind of saviour.
He was just a common man with a self-deprecating thought.
'I've never seen a smile like that when I looked at the mirror, youth, it sure is nice isn't it?'
His first impulsive decision would also be his last.
Grabbing the boy's hoodie he pulled him towards himself, the slippery floor working against him made him put more weight into the pull than necessary, the boy was saved, but the positions were now switched.
As he fell, everything became slow, with stoic eyes he took a look around.
The man on the car had been awoken due to the screams of the watching passerbys.
The people around him had horrified expressions on their face but at the same time they all had taken distance from the area, he truly couldn't blame them.
The teen who had pushed the other teen seemed to be in the verge of tears with a horrified expression on his face seemingly realizing what his small action had caused.
The pushed teen was resting on his hands and knees looking behind him with a face full of surprise clearly not expecting something like this to happen.
And as he looked at every single one of these people he wondered, how would their lives change after this?
Another question too popped up in his head as the slowed time seemed to move faster.
'Now who will save me?'
CRAAASH
"Oh my God!"
"Jesus Christ!"
"Aaaaaaah!"
Floating through the abyss the man recovered his conciousness, his head shaken and stirred.
"Ugh... Where am I?"
His eyes opened and closed yet all he could see was darkness surrounding him.
After a few minutes of seemingly floating around for no discernable reason he saw a flashing light in the distance, slowly through that abyss he started walking.
Reaching the place he saw an ornamented floating screen.
"Huh, that's interesting."
In that black void the man stood, confused yet not alarmed, a stoic visage covered his face.
The screen front of him was filled with words he recognized to be English.
"Congratulations, welcome to the God Entertainment Program?"
The man read the words aloud and his confusion increased, was this some kind of afterlife?
Such questions popped up in his mind but there was no one to answer them.
Without much to be able to do in this situation he simply hit the continue button on the floating window.
You have been chose to play the part of one of the many whose duty is to entertain God you will be given the powers needed to survive in the new world you'll be thrown into.
Thank you for understanding, have a safe trip!
Quickly reading through the window the man started to have a bad feeling in his gut, something didn't seem quite right about the whole situation.
"Wait what does-"
Before he could question or make any type of inquiry to any of what he read the ground under him opened and in a single black bite swallowed him whole.
Yet again, the man opened his eyes.
This time around he realized something was off, quite quickly he came to realize what it was.
He was not quite a man anymore, instead short limbs would show that this "man" was now what seemed like an infant.
"This is unexpected." "Bahbuah gahgua."
He couldn't even speak properly it seemed.
He was, indeed, a baby after all.
The man-turned-baby sighed mentally as he mentally processed everything that had happened.
Slowly, the information of his way of passing away had be remembered and with it came the realization that he might not in Kansas anymore.
"Ugh..." "Bahug..."
"Hello?"
The man instantly perked up at the sound of steps coming closer, the childish voice he had heard gets her face right into the crib and in front of his face.
The first thought that crossed his head was he was looking at probably the cutest little kid he had ever seen, the little girl's icy blue eyes and long white hair made her look as unique as the word could describe her while her mannerism was like that of a child trying to imitate what they thought what being an adult is like.
"Are you my little brother?"
"Probably?" "Augugah?"
A radiant smile appeared on her face as she put her hand inside the crib and started playing with his hand.
He grabbed the finger out curiosity and held it there.
"Hehe~ Are you trying to give me a handshake?"
Deciding he might as well play along with her he shook her finger up and down.
Giggling uncontrollably the little girl shook back.
"Hello little brother, my name is Weiss, nice to meet you."
The little girl called Weiss, had a presence that was healing for the poor and weary soul of the man, too long tired and remorseful faces was all he had seen, a child smiling and giggling was like a bottle of water in a desert.
Yet, there was something odd about her, behind those eyes sat things which he couldn't recognize the source of, but there was something in her that he could recognize.
Sadness and loneliness.
It was wrong for a young girl to feel that way, so, he thought about a way to cheer her up, since he was too once a child he thought about the phrase he wanted to hear the most when he felt sad.
He let her finger go and threw his arms open as a pick me up baby body language.
"Do you want me to pick you up?"
He shook his head and she seemed surprised by this.
"Y-you can understand me?"
This time he nodded his head.
Her reaction was clearly one of shock, she didn't become scared but instead interested, as her expression changed he kept his hands up.
"Do you want me t-to get closer?"
He nodded, she smiled once more.
Slowly her face came closer to his hands and he grabbed her by the cheeks, he pulled her face closer and hugged it.
"a wuv yu"
Two small windows appeared on the corner of his eye as these events unfolded.
《Courage Rank Increased》
《Charm Rank Increased》
As he finished reading these he felt himself get lift up by the small girl and hugged tightly but with care.
"I-I love you too little brother..."
She reminded him of his younger self, maybe, he could be there for her so she wouldn't turn into someone like him.
He simply reciprocated the hug and patted her head as best as he could with his small baby arms.
Slowly she put him back on the crib and started cleaning her eyes from the slight tears that fell.
"S-sorry."
He shook his head as a sign to not worry about it to which she replied with a bright smile of her own.
"Thank you."
He gave a thumbs up and his best try at a charming smirk which made the girl giggle into her hand.
"Now that I think about it I don't know your name yet little brother, I wonder where it's written..."
Weiss moved around the room searching for papers or anything that might include his name.
"Eureka! Let's see here..."
Flipping through a clipboard she read the names and pictures until she found what she was searching for.
"Aha! Here it is, you my little brother are named Blanc Schnee!"
《Name Updated to Blanc Schnee》
Huh, interesting name.
"Hmm, what could be a cute pet name? Blan? No... Bla? No that's even worse... Lan... Yeah, that could work, what do you say Lan?"
The man-baby gave a thumbs up again and his best try at a "cool" expression.
"Hehehe~ you're way too funny for a baby my cute little Lan~"
'Maybe I'm not as bad with children as I thought...'
As she finished her cute little giggles she spoke again.
"Oh! I gotta show you my room! I've got all types of books with amazing information like fighting techniques and war strategy, economics and similar things as well!"
"I would quite like that." "Uagha uuugh gaugg gah"
"Hmmm, I'll take that as a yes."
Thumbs up, charming smile with a cool expression.
"Hahahaha! Stop doing that you're gonna make my tummy hurt!"
SLAM
The door suddenly swung open and a man with a mustache entered followed by some people in lab coats.
"Weiss, who gave you permission to enter this room?"
"Father, I-"
"I do not care about excuses, leave immediately."
Before leaving she looked at him one last time.
"Yes, father."
Her little feet running slowly faded in the corridor walls.
"What is his status?"
"He's stable my Lord but..."
"But what? Spit it out already."
"His genetic material is... different."
The moustache man turns sharply to one of the lab coats and speaks with fierceness.
"I'm in no mood to be asking questions every five seconds so explain properly or I will fire you."
"Yes Lord Schnee, I apologize, what I mean to say is that it is probable that it is probable that this child did not inherit the Schnee family's Semblance nor their high Aura capacity, in fact his genetic makeup is completely unrecognizable from the average person's or Schnee in this case."
The room suddenly got quiet after the man stopped speaking.
A cold atmosphere permeated the air.
'This is bad isn't it?'
"So, he's useless."
"I wouldn't quite say that Sir but-"
"Dispose of him, I have no need for subpar genetic abnormalities in this family."
"Sir..? How are-"
"Dispose of him by any means necessary, I pay you for a reason."
Before anyone could say anything the man left the room.
'Yeah, it's bad.'
A female wearing a lab coat got closer with a small needle.
"Don't worry buddy, it'll be over soon."
Desperately trying to escape but being unable to he was stabbed by the needle and injected with some type of substance, slowly the man's vision blurred until it all went dark.
The white haired girl sat in her room writing on her diary the events which had transpired in the day, today had been quite the hectic day after all.
"And after swordsmanship practice I went around one of Father's labs to see my little brother without his consent(which made it really scary!) but I think it was very worth it! If I had to describe my little brother I would call him the cutest little brother alive(probably)! He's really smart and has a very cute smile, he also has piercing grey eyes instead of the usual blue of the family(which I think look really cool! I bet he'll look really cool when he grows older!), I think he's definitely going to become a great man when he's older, he so smart and can even understand what I say to him! I'm really happy he's here."
As the girl finished writing she closed her diary and snuck it under her bed where no one could see it.
Maybe she'd tell Winter about it later, she'd probably like him as well.
As she was walking out of her room she found a butler looking outside a window attentively.
"A problem with anything Marco?"
"Ah! Lady Weiss! I apologize I was simply distracted by the scientists of Lord Schnee."
Tilting her head sideways a little at the confusion she looked the way the butler was looking at.
"The scientists?"
"Yes, it seemed like they were in a hurry to deliver some kind of package or something like that."
"Is that so?"
She kept looking out the window as the men moved some kind of table with wheels in the direction of a van.
The table looked kinda similar to something she had seen but couldn't quite put her finger on it, where had she-
As those thoughts passed her head, the mantle on the table got stuck on a passing door and on the table was a basket with a small child inside.
Weiss was struck with surprise as she realized what was happening.
"No! No! No! No!"
"Lady Schnee?!"
Quickly she started running as fast as she could with her small body.
Reaching the outside of the mansion she saw the men finishing picking everything up.
"NO!"
This was the first time Weiss's Semblance activated, a glyph appeared under her feet and she was pushed forward at a high velocity towards the van, unfortunately she was too late.
As she arrived at the scene the van was already driving away, resolving herself to chase after it she pushed the ground as another propulsion glyph appeared under her feet, unfortunately the Aura capacity of a child is not enough for multiple uses of such an Aura heavy Semblance like the Schnee's.
Thus, with one last push forward and falling to the ground, Weiss Schnee saw her little brother be taken away as her vision became darker and darker.
Two voices could be heard arguing as the man slowly woke up from his sleep.
"Look, he's waking up."
"I don't know why that stupid sister picked up a baby, we barely have food for ourselves for Light's sake!"
"Shhh! Don't use the Light's name in vain!"
"Oh yeah? What are you gonna do about it?"
"I'm gonna tell the Father~!"
The sound of running could be heard as one kid ran.
"H-Hey wait! You damn snitch!"
The second kid ran after the first and there was silence around him.
"Huh... I'm not dead." "Hagu... Gah uag guuu."
"Well look who's awake! If it isn't our Little Prince!"
A soft as silk voice spoke aloud as a woman came closer to his face.
She was a brown skinned lady with chestnut hair and light green eyes dressed in what seemed like a nun outfit, just instead of a cross she had a necklace of a sword with a sun emanating rays of light on the front.
"Are you hungry little one?"
Before he could even make any noise his stomach growled loudly.
The nun simply smiled as she brought out a bottle.
"Here you go."
The woman put the bottle into his mouth before he could react and made him drink the contents, they were, to say the least, one of the grossest things he had consumed, yet the nun forced him to drink it all.
After he finished he felt his body shiver from disgust which made the nun have a patient yet sad expression on her face.
"I know it's hard but cactus juice is all we have at the moment, at least until we come by some bugs or other animals, how cruel of a destiny must a child have to be dropped off in an awful place such as Vacuo..."
She came closer to him and grabbed his little arm lightly, on it a band around his small wrist.
"Blanc? Huh, your last name is not here... Blanc... has a nice ring to it!"
The nun smiled widely and he couldn't help but smile back.
This seemed like quite the bad position to be in from what little information he's been able to gather but she somehow seemed to be able to stay positive through it all, that type of natural positivity is always contagious.
"Aww! What a cute little smile you have!"
She moved her hand to pinch his cheeks lightly.
He really wanted to grow up quicker if this is what it was gonna be like.
As she finished pinching his cheeks and playing with around, a yawn came out of his mouth.
"Already tired, huh? It's understandable, I better leave you to sleep, I have some chores I still need to help with, hope you sleep well Little Prince!"
As she said those words with a smile she moved in the direction to exit the tent.
"Ah! My name is Marina, a pleasure to meet you Blanc!"
'I'm physically a baby why are you talking to me like I'm a grown man...'
And with that she left the tent.
Being left alone with only his thoughts inside the tent the man couldn't help but question everything that has happened until now.
So many events in so little time, at least as he had percieved it, so he proceeded to do something which he had gotten used to do in his previous life, take everything in a stride.
'Nothing I could really do at the moment to gain any new information, for now, I'll focus on surviving, just like before.'
With a baby-sized sigh the mentally a man proceeded to close his eyes and slowly drift away into his dreams.
15 Years Later
He woke up yet again.
Another day, more sand.
"Blanc! Morning training!"
The voice of the old Father could be heard in the distance, grabbing his clothes and putting them on Blanc started walking outside the tent.
YAWN
"What are you doing yawning so early in the morning?! You're gonna make the others lose motivation!"
He looked at the Father who was wearing his circle sunglasses as he stared at him while waving his cane, his short and stocky figure could be recognized from almost every angle.
He sent a look towards the other kids which were looking barely awake hitting wooden planks stuck on the sand lightly, some looking about to fall asleep.
"Take it easy Father, you're gonna hurt your hip again if you keep getting so worked up."
With an angry expression the short man sat himself in a rock.
"Hmpf! If I was 20 years younger I could beat your ass to void and back kid! Watch your tone!"
"Ossu."
"I still don't know what that means, kid!"
Ignoring him he took his place in front of a plank and started conditioning his fists.
Legs separated, bodyweight on the centre, and from the hips let go a punch.
SWOOOSH
BOOM
Cock back the fist to the hips and hit with the other.
SWOOOSH
BOOM
And like that the first hours of the day slowly went away.
Vacuo, a hard and unforgiving place with the only true purpose of their citizens being to survive, a simple way of life, almost reminiscent of men before the industrial revolution.
Simple yet not quite as merciful, many caravans and tribes wiped out each day by Grimm or other natural disasters, truly Vacuo was where someone went to die.
Yet somehow he survived, he managed to accomplish Vacuo's main goal so far, he felt good, like maybe this is was the type of life he deserved since the beginning.
"Now kick!"
""""UUUUUUGH."""""
The kids and some of the teens groaned at that shout from the Father slowly they all stopped punching and switched to kicking.
The kicking post was a semi-soft material with a hard centre, no one really knew how the Father made them but they served their purpose well.
Warming up the muscles with some squats, cocking the leg, stepping to the outside as you twist the hips and then release the kick.
SWOOSH
BOOM
And so training kept going just like every other day.
"Done you can leave now!"
"YEAH!"
"Man, I'm hungry."
"Freaking finally..."
With the completion of the morning workout the soul returned to the younger people of the small nomadic tribe.
"Breakfast is ready!"
Marina's voice was heard coming from the dinner tent and everyone ran to it as if they were zombies chasing human meat.
"Holy shit..!"
"Language!"
THWACK
The teen was promptly hit over the head with the Father's cane.
"Ack! Sorry Father..."
Entering the room he looked in the direction of the teen in front of him was looking at.
Served on the table were one crab burger for each person in the tribe.
He whistled lightly as he sat himself on his seat.
"Where did this come from?"
At his question Marina came close.
"The other tribe we exchanged with yesterday had extra and were willing to give them for very little in exchange of some coffee."
With a small smile and giving a short prayer before eating he replied.
"Light bless these small blessings then."
Giggling lightly she replied with energy.
"Amen!"
And so they started to eat, the meat tender and tasty and the burger bun slightly toasty made for a perfect combination especially when all they've been eating lately was bat stew.
"Hmmm, is this recently made coffee?"
"Yep, just this morning we made it."
"You really outdid yourself today, huh?"
With a small laugh Marina went back to slowly eating her own burger.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw one of the smaller kids had already finished his meal but had a downcast expression on his face, it seemed like he was still hungry, he looked down at his own burger, half of it remained.
He sighed lightly to himself.
He stood up and picked up his plate along with the remaining of his coffee.
As he passed the kid he put half the remaining burger in the plate and ruffled his hair.
"Eat slowly so you can enjoy it better."
He looked up at him and smiled.
"Yes, big bro!"
With a smile he walked out of the tent into his own tent.
《Kindness Rank Increased》
There it was again, a pesky message that appeared on the corner of his eye for a few seconds and then went away.
He still didn't know what they were.
With a sigh he laid on the bed.
He knew the basics of this world, that it was called Remnant, the brother Gods, the academies, Dust, Vale, Minstral, Vacuo and Atlas.
Atlas...
"In Atlas the most notable people are General Ironwood and the Schnee family, the ones that make most, if not all the dust."
He raised an eyebrow slightly at the name.
"The Schnee?"
Marina simply nodded and explained.
"Yep, white colored hair, extremely rich, strong features, most of them good looking, and all of them cold as a tundra, now that I think about it you kinda look like one of them..."
"Oh, are you calling me good-looking? Thank you for the compliment you're quite beautiful as well."
With an embarrased laugh and a light punch to the arm Marina kept explaining about the world.
'I wonder how that little girl is right now...'
Such a thought was ripped from his head as he felt the sand shake little by little and the force becoming stronger with each passing second.
"Grimm..."
With the words uttered from his mouth screams could be heard from nearby tents.
Putting his parka on he ran outside his tent and saw something that left a pit on his stomach.
"KRYAAAAAGH!"
The worm grimm measured about 6 meters of height, it seemed like it was recently born, like a snake through grass it moved from tent to tent searching for food as it jumped in the air and dived back into the sand.
Not wasting more time he started helping people get off their tents quicker.
"Move! Move! Leave your things behind they're not worth your life!"
His shouts mixed with the screams of panic of the people in the distance he could see the Father using some kind of power to move rocks and throw it at the worm.
"Eat this you hellish insect!"
"KYRAAAAAGH!"
With a loud screech the worm went into the sand, as he did so he used his tail to strike the Father sending him flying.
"UAGH!"
"Father!"
Marina seeing this quickly moved to the Father's side to try and help him up, unfortunately, it seemed as tough he had passed out from the strike.
As he finished evacuating the people from their tents he saw both Marina and the Father laying on the ground, Marina putting her hands over the Father's chest as green light poured out of her hands.
Quickly running towards the two he went to move the Father to take him to safety.
"No! Don't move him! He's having a heart attack, I need to fully heal him or he'll die."
Looking around and feeling the silence in the air send a shiver down his spine.
"Please hurry up, if not we're gonna have to leave him here."
"No! I'll finish quickly! Just wait!"
Seconds passed, slowly grains of sand started shaking again, on the distance he could see the worm accelerating directly at their direction as the huge Grimm parted the sand.
"Marina!"
"I'm going as fast as I can!"
His heartbeat started to pick up as the Grimm came closer and closer, as if he had suddenly gone deaf the only thing remaining in his ears was the sound of his palpitations, his vision becoming darker and darker as if someone had put a filter unto the world.
"Do you wish for power?"
Without notice he heard a voice speaking into his brain, everything seemed to slow down.
"Do you wish to protect those close to you? To never be stomped on again by those believing themselves your superior? To fight, and fight, and fight, with your own hands?"
His mind was blanking out, the situation not making any sense was throwing his mind in a disarray of conflicting emotions.
"If you wish to accept, and fight for another day, you just have to say these words, and the contract will be sealed..."
His breathing was erratic, a heavy feeling was nesting itself into his chest as his mind became mush from the overbearing information.
With heavy breaths his mouth opened.
"T-Thou art I... I am thou..."
《You've been gifted the F-High Rank Persona 《The Notorious》by ~~~~ 》
"Persona!"
Time flowed naturally again as he regained his vision and hearing.
In the distance the worm still moving towards their position.
'Alright lad, we ain't got time for introductions so just listen to me and let me guide you.'
A voice with an Irish accent spoke into his head.
'First of all, wide stance.'
A slight tingling on his body and brain let him know exactly how he should stand, he separated his legs and stood almost sideways with his right foot and hand in front as he cocked his left hand back.
'Fookin perfect lad! Now measure the distance with your right as you ready your left, there's no need for faints or anything similar as you're just fighting a dumb foookin insect."
He put his right hand forward and measured, there were 20 seconds until the worm arrived at their location.
'Now the most important part, breathe deep and relax, you're the King of this whole shithole world, nottin can beat you lad!'
He took a deep breath and exhaled.
"I'm the King..."
"Blanc...?"
"Blanc...?"
She looked at his sudden change in demeanor from before, no longer did he look agitated and in a hurry but calm and intimidating, he stood in an odd pose.
In the distance she could see the worm splitting the sand as it swam towards their location, panic started to invade her body as she saw how despairing the situation was.
"Blanc, I need you to get out of here! Please! Even if I die it will be fine if you take care of everyone! Just get away!"
With some slight change on his tone and accent he spoke back.
"The King doesn't run from anybody, specially not a fookin dumb insect."
"Wha-"
For a moment she was left without words, the polite boy she knew was now freely cursing as he looked in the direction of the worm.
"You have to-!"
"KYAAAARGGGH!"
The worm's piercing screech meant it was about to attack, there wasn't time left.
'At least we'll die as a family...'With such thoughts on her mind Marina looked towards the incoming worm with a saddened expression on her face.
"Quit yer bitching ya lousy little shit, come a grab a bite if you can."
Cursing towards the Grimm made it suddenly change directions from her towards Blanc.
Raising from the sand the Grimm headed in the direction of Blanc as she looked on, unable to do anything.
'Patron Saint of the Light please help your children...'For seemingly no reason Blanc started counting out loud."3... 2... 1..."
At the last second a loud shout was heard.
"《Counter》!"
A giant amount of air and sand came out from the direction of Blanc, silence suddenly permeated the area.
Tears started to fall from her eyes as she realized there was no way the boy she had raised could have survived that.
As the tears fell, so, out of the sky started to fall Grimm guts as they slowly evaporated.
"What...?"
The evacuated people seeing the Grimm gone went to their location and saw the entrails of the creature falling to the ground like rain.
"Eww!"
"What the heck!?"
"Where's Blanc?"
With the little kid's question everyone started to look around.
Slowly the sand settled and from behind the sand a shadow could be seen, a little boy pointed at it.
"Blanc!"
Everyone turned around and looked at the standing figure, slowly walking towards them he stopped a few meters in front of her.
With a smile he spoke out to her.
"Told ya, I'm the King of the fookin world..."
As those words left his mouth he collapsed down in a heap with his left arm barely attached.
