In dragon culture, there were three main factions that every dragon aligned themself with. There was the Harmony faction, which valued law and order, and followed and worshipped the gods. There was the Chaos faction, which craved violence and destruction, and rejected the gods. And there was the Spectator faction, which refused to work for either side and just watched the constant battles unfold from the sidelines. The Harmony and Chaos factions were mortal enemies, and fought long, raging battles with each other. This was in their nature. Constant conflict, countless deaths, and endless war. Except for the Spectator faction. They honestly didn't give a shit one way or another.
"Oh, Miss Kobayashi! Pancakes are ready! I put extra chocolate chips in this batch!"
"Oh, those look so good! Lemme have some!"
"What the- Elma? The hell are you doing here? How did you get in here?"
"Don't worry, Tohru. She was at the door, so I let her in. You two better not destroy my living room again, you hear?"
"Miss, Kobayashi, how could you do this to me? Didn't I already tell you about our factions? We're bitter enemies!"
Tohru was a Dragon Maid in service of Miss Kobayashi. She was also part of the chaos faction. Oh but don't worry. She was a good dragon and on her very best behavior in this world! Elma, on the other hand, was a Dragon Office Worker, and a colleague of Miss Kobayashi's. She was part of the Harmony faction, and was originally sent to this world to bring Tohru back. She had a hard time adjusting to the human world, but there was one thing about it she really liked: the food.
"Ugh, fine. She can have the burnt ones."
"Hey! Can I at least get some maple syrup to go with this?"
"Get it yourself, fishface."
Kobayashi sighed. They were always fighting like this. Ever since Elma first crash landed in her living room, she had seen nothing but hatred and bitterness between the two. Sure, it was a fun character dynamic for like, an anime or something, but the conflict really got on Kobayashi's nerves sometimes. And it sometimes destroyed her living room, too.
"Hey, would you two lay off of each other already? It's getting annoying."
"But we're mortal enemies! She won't follow the order of the gods. She's unholy!"
"It's not like dragon factions matter in this world. You see any gods around here? Why don't you two try settling it like humans for once?"
"So… constant fighting, then?"
"No-like rational humans. Just agree to disagree or something. That's what I always do."
"I'm sorry, Miss Kobayashi, but it's just not that easy. You can't just call a conflict off just like that. And besides, you just can't trust a Harmony dragon."
"Hey! You can't trust a Chaos dragon either! They eat humans whole, did you know that?"
"I haven't had the taste for human flesh in like… two whole weeks!"
"Oh my god, you two. At least take it outside or something."
The phone rang. Kobayashi went to get it. Oh my god, these two are going to be the death of me. She picked it up.
"Hey, Koby! How you doing?"
It was Lucoa. She was a Big Titty Dragon living with Shota, a mage in training. She was part of the Spectator faction, and was friends with Tohru. She didn't really care for the Harmony-Chaos conflict. She was just there for funsies.
"Hey, I'm doing fine."
"Cool. Sooooo, Shota has a new spell thing he wants to try out. It's supposed to be some sort of friendship spell. He said it would amplify the emotional relationship between two entities, or something like that. I was wondering if Tohru could come over to test it out. Oh, and if Elma's there, ask her if she can come along too."
Kobayashi paused for a second. Friendship spell? Kobayashi looked over at Tohru and Elma. They were arguing over the legitimacy of the Dragon Bible. Typical. Kobayashi's brain gears started turning. If these two get this friendship spell thing used on them, it could end their rivalry. They would finally be friends! And my constant headaches would be gone! And my living room won't get obliterated anymore! Kobayashi put her hand over the speaker of her phone.
"Hey. Tohru. Elma. Lucoa said that Shota wants to test a new spell out and wants you to come over and help him."
"What kind of spell?"
"Um… she didn't say."
"Sure, I'll come with. These pancakes suck, anyway."
"Good!"
"Ok, Kanna, hold down the fort while we're gone. We won't be long."
Kanna was a Dragon Student who lived with Kobayashi. She was once part of the Chaos faction, but recently started leaning towards unalignment. She nodded her head. She was gonna hold down this fort so damn well.
Some time later…
"Yay! I'm so glad you could all come!"
They were at Shota's house, sitting in his room. Lucoa had poured some barley tea for them. Shota entered the room, reading a large book and wearing a comically large mage hat.
"Hey, Shota-baby! That hat looks good on you."
"Yeah thanks. Ok, so this spell is a bit complex, so I need your full cooperation on this. Got it?"
"Uh huh."
"Yep."
"Ok, give me a sec. I gotta get the pentagram ready."
A few minutes later, Shota had drawn an overly complex pentagram design on the floor. Tohru and Elma were instructed to strip down to their underwear.
"Oh, Miss Kobayashi! Don't look! You're so naughty!"
"I'm not looking."
"Mmmm… why do we need to strip down, anyway?"
"Yeah, Shota-baby. You sure this 'spell' isn't an excuse to look at other women in the nude?"
"What? Of course not! It says right here in the- Ugh. Ok, lie down on the pentagram, you two. Let's make this quick."
Tohru and Elma were now laying face up on the pentagram, side by side. Tohru's feet were by Elma's head, and vice versa. Shota lit the candles on the ring of the pentagram and turned off the lights.
"Ok, I need you both to stay still while I do this. Step back, everyone."
"You got this, Shota-baby!"
Shota began to chant some barely pronounceable words. The pentagram started to illuminate with a deep reddish-pink glow. A tornado of wind started to spin around the pentagram and the bedroom. It was hard to hear what Shota was saying. This is crazy, thought Kobayashi. The kid's doing this at the age of 10?
Elma decided this was the perfect time to speak up.
"So, what kind of spell is this, again?"
"Didn't Miss Kobayashi tell you? It's a friendship spell, to improve your bond with Tohru!"
"Wait, WHAT? Kobayashi, you never said-"
"Guys, shush! I'm almost done!"
"This is crazy! You know we can't-"
Suddenly, a large mass of smoke spewed from the candles. The pentagram was shining even brighter now. Shota chanted the last words of the spell, and the room was enveloped in a blinding flash of light.
