Wrong.

Not right.

Erroneous.

No matter how she worded it queen Anna felt that something was out of place.

It had been brewing in her for some time now and she could not understand its origins. Everything was supposed to be perfect. She was queen, soon to marry the man of her dreams, and her sister had found where she truly belonged and had finally regained the freedom that was robbed of her since childhood.

So why, every day did she feel like this was all some sort of sick joke? That there was still danger looming, like the dam that she had broken was still threatening to wash Arendelle away.

Anna believed that it was because of what she had realized two weeks ago when she was trying to think of a new way to strengthen Arendelle and Northuldra's bond. Yes, they were bonded threw the love of their parents, and through the leadership between Elsa and her. But that along does not join people. Doing things and getting to know each other is the true key to a long and prosperous future.

Anna had come to the conclusion after a couple of months had passed and she had not seen one Northuldra come to Arendelle, and when she asked around, no Arendellian was in the slightest interested in the people that their previous queen had left to go protect. The only relationship that the two people had, was of King Runeard's reign, but now that that had been dealt with and the price paid and forgiven, there was nothing. The Arendellian's only saw the Northuldra as the people that Elsa was now living with because of her magical ties, and the Northuldra only thought of Arnedelle because of Elsa and her saving their kingdom and of Anna now being queen.

There needed to be something more to connect them. So, Anna had looked through a bunch of paperwork to find a way to connect both of her parents' peoples.

She did not find one.

Sure, she could simply host a party and incorporate both of the people's traditions, that would certainly get people mingling but it would not last long and was not a strong foundation. No, what she needed was a business transaction. She had to think of a way to start a trading business that would benefit both kingdoms. She had sent a letter to her sister, asking her to talk with the chief of the Northuldra and learned what they did for survival. Once she had heard back, she had realized that all her efforts were futile. There was nothing that the Northuldra's had that Arendelle did not already have, and Arendelle could not give anything that the Northuldra would want.

Northuldra lived with nature. They preferred a simple life living amongst the trees and taking care of their animals. What ever they needed nature provided for them. Arendelle also liked the simple quit life but not to that extent, it was still taking in modern technologies, but it also still had plenty of lands filled with farms and animals. The only thing that the Northuldra had over Arendelle were the Spirits. But they were hardly a bargaining chip. They could not be used for war as they hated violence. But they also would not help Arendelle thrive in the least. The Spirits lived in the Enchanted forest and, except for Gale delivering letters between her and her sister, never left it.

There was absolutely no reason for the two people to even think about the other. The only connection was her sister and her.

"Actually, a bridge has two sides, and mother had two daughters."

Those words comforted the young queen. It showed her that there was a connection, and that she could figure it out with her sister. It also showed her importance.

Anna would not lie to herself. She knew that she thought very little of herself for years. Elsa had been the heir who was graced with beauty, intelligence and talent. She was simply a spare. Something only used if Elsa was indisposed. No one gave her a second. There wasn't even anyone in Arendelle who thought to use her to control the throne. Everyone had simply been satisfied and adored Elsa, even after her powers were revealed.

Anna on the other hand was a joke. She wasn't completely bad at anything, but she was certainly never the best and her own awkwardness with people and clumsiness were no help at all. It was only after she had saved Arendelle by sacrificing herself for her sister that the people truly started to appreciate her. But what made her truly worth of Arendelle's crown was her efforts in the Enchanted forest.

"The Spirits have decided that Arendelle should stand with you. You did what was right for everyone."

Anna smiled, proud of what she had done. Certainly, everyone did miss Elsa, but they did not believe Anna was a bad queen, she was a good queen in her own right.

A thought came into Anna's head, but she quickly shoved it aside, for it only brought pain. The question on why she had to die, for the people of Arendelle to appreciate her despite her always being kind to them, and why she had to prove herself worthy of being queen while Elsa was born to be both the queen and Fifth Spirit?

Anna was not the jealous type. She loved her sister and her people too much to be one. But she was the one who looked down on herself more than anyone else in the world. But no one noticed that behind her smiles. Especially her sister. And if she did, then she would just blame herself.

Anna found herself looking out her study window, towards her kingdom. As she gazed down at her people as they started to retire home for the night, she sighed. She once again tried to find the answer to her unease.

Truth be told, it did not feel like the price had been truly paid for the sins of what king Runeard had done.

They had broken the dam he had built to weaken the Northuldra people, and Arendelle had nearly been destroyed because of it. The Spirits only saved Arendelle because Anna had been willing to sacrifice it to make up for the sins of the people. But something did not feel right. Did the Spirits really have the right to forgive Arendelle? Should that not have been the Northuldra's decision? But then there came the question. Did the people of Arendelle even deserve that kind of punishment?

The people of Arendelle had no idea of what had happened in the Enchanted forest. They did not know of king Runeard's betrayal, only that there was a battle in which he had died and that the forest was sealed away. And in the forest itself, neither the Northuldra or what was left of the Arendelle guard knew what had truly happened. They could only blame each other.

The only one who was truly guilty was the king. Elsa had told her of the man who tried to talk king Runeard out of attacking the Northuldra, as he believed them to be a peaceful people. He could be considered just as much at fault, because he knew of the unjust act but did nothing, but that was only one man. The entire kingdom should not have to pay for king Runeard's sins.

If anything, it would make since for the Spirits to destroy the castle at least and save the homes of the people. But the castle was the main place that stored Arendelle's goods and was the trademark for the kingdom, so it would only hurt the people if it had been lost as well.

So, in the end, the only price that was paid was the kings death.

Anna sighed once more before she decided to retire. Perhaps she was over thinking things. Maybe she should talk to Kristoff about it in the morning, and if she still could not find an answer then she would write to Elsa. And even then, her problem with trying to unify the two countries had been just thought of. Perhaps she should travel to the Northuldra and ask if there was anything Arendelle could do for them.

Anna closed her eyes happy with the conclusion that she had come up with.

Anna woke up in a cold sweat. Bolting straight up in her bed and even screaming.

A maid came rushing in and started to calm the queen.

"What is it? What happened?"

Anna simply shook her head and cried. More of her attendant came flooding to her room concerned. Anna knew that she had to explain but she could not tell them the truth.

"I dreamt of when Elsa and Olaf had died, and I was trapped alone in that cave. I am sorry for worrying you, please go back to bed."

They did as she instructed but still gave her concerned looks.

Anna did not get anymore sleep for that night.

Anna was like a ghost for the entire day, floating from one meeting to the next. The dream playing in her mind so many times that she would jolt, believing that she was still asleep. Her servants became worried, but she would just smile and reassure them.

It was late evening when she asked for her horse to be saddled.

They tried to stop her form going, but Anna simply said that she needed to clear her head and a ride would help.

She took in there concerned and loving eyes one last time before she galloped into the night.

She travelled to the valley of the trolls.

Upon entering she dismounted her horse and called out for them. Soon the rocks started to tremble and crowd around her as they sprung to life and start cheering for her arrival.

Anna greeted them with a bright smile and talked about how she missed them. Meany asked how Kristoff was doing, but she could only reply that his trading business was keeping him away at the moment.

She then asked if she could see Grand Pabbie.

A hug boulder rolled towards her and he reveled himself to her.

They greeted each other and the troll king asked what he could do for her. Anna only replied that she needed to talk to him privately.

Once they were away from prying eyes the troll once more turned to her but this time, he asked what was wrong. The troll king, although merry at mind, could always see the pain in anyone's heart hidden in their eyes.

Anna kept her smile, but it had become forlorn.

"I know how to truly reunite the Northuldra and Arendelle together. A way in which they can grow and thrive together and never have to fear the other betraying them again."

"And what is that?"

Anna took a deep breath, preparing herself for what she was about to ask for.

"I want you to erase both kingdoms' memories of me. Make is so I never existed and change it to where all of my accomplishments were either done by Elsa or by someone else."

The old troll jolted back from her words.

"I had a dream." Anna explained. "In that dream everyone was living peacefully together, and the Spirits had even left the Enchanted forest. But in that dream, I was dead. When I had lured the Earth Spirits to break the dam, I fell with it."

"And so, Elsa took up the mantle of both Queen of Arendelle and the protector of the Enchanted forest." Grand Pabbie whispered.

Anna nodded. He then looked at her in confusion.

"But why would you want everyone's memories erased of you? You could just tell your sister of your discovery and then you could work it out together."

"Because Elsa is stubborn, and she is a coward." Anna said coldly. She had come to except it. When ever she tried to talk with her sister and come to a decision together, Elsa either would back down and apologize or use her magic to push Anna away. There was never a true understanding between them.

"If I am not completely out of the picture, then Elsa will never act. She is to content with her freedom and will just run away if pushed. So, I have to shove her." Anna explained but then her eyes turned sad. "Besides, the price has to be paid."

"Price? My queen, what price?"

Anna looked into the troll king's eyes.

"The price for what my grandfather did." She raised her hand to stop the troll from questioning her. "What king Runeard did was unforgivable, but in the end, there was no consequences except for the Enchanted forest being trapped and for Arendelle to be afraid for a couple of days. We could argue that the price was paid with his death, but if that were the case then there would be no need for the Spirts to put up the mist."

The old troll nodded in understanding and Anna continued.

"Our mother saved our father who was just an enemy to her at that moment. She saw a young boy hurt and didn't think about who he was. Elsa was her gift. Elsa was giving powers and was first born. The throne and guardianship of Arendelle and the Enchanted forest are rightfully hers. Even the Northuldra realized this, or they would not have so casually told her to stay with them. But they did not offer the same for me. Elsa said that we both make up the Fifth Spirit but that is just it, she just said we do, but I have yet to see it. The Northuldra never even thanked me, they just went straight to Elsa."

"What are you trying to say?"

Anna looked down. "Elsa is our mother's daughter, a gift, who heard her call and learned of the horrors of king Runeard." Anna stalled for a moment. "I am my grandfather's granddaughter. The one who had to take responsibility of his sins. And the one who had to tear down what he has built, whether it is a dam, or his line of succession."

Anna once more looked up into the troll king's eyes.

"I was the cursed one."

It was a statement. And it left no room for arguments. But what the old troll did next shocked Anna. He gave a loud sigh and looked at her with pity.

"You knew." Anna whispered.

He nodded. "Since the mist had first risen, I knew what was to come, and I can not tell you how much I hoped this future would never come to pass."

Anna stared at him with suspicion. "When you asked me to protect Elsa, what were your real intentions?"

"I had two intentions your majesty. The cruel one is that I hoped that you would die trying to protect her, so that you would not have to face the choice you are dealing with now. But the second one, is that I hoped that if you could remind Elsa of Arendelle, that she would not abandon it. Both did not come to pass."

Grand Pabbie raised his hand and placed it on Anna's.

"I have never viewed you as a curse, only someone with a tragic fate. But I always believed you could change it."

Anna gave him a small smile filled with gratefulness, but then it faded.

"This has to be done." She said in a small and hopeless voice.

"Your majesty…"

"Please Grand Pabbie." Anna pleaded. "I do not have the courage to take my life."

The ancient troll lowered his hand.

"I understand."

Author's notes:

Thank you for reading.

I have a lot to say about this, but I am going to write one more chapter with Elsa, and then a special chapter explaining my thoughts. All I can say for now is that the idea came from thinking about how the Original ending for Frozen 2 had Elsa presumed dead. This resulted in the Northuldra helping Arendelle rebuild their kingdom. I started to think about the idea of, what if Anna had died instead?
