Chapter One :

"You drool in your sleep."

Chiron had called me to the Big House. Apparently, he wanted to introduce me to the boy I had been nursing for the past few days. By what Grover had told me, we were the same age. Grover had been pretending to be his best friend while he was in Yancy Academy and Chiron was checking if he really was a powerful demigod.

Of course, Grover was not actually his friend…. he was my best friend, after Luke obviously.

Luke.

Where do I start.

He and Thalia were my only family when I ran away from home. I never felt welcome in my father's family ever since he got remarried and had other kids. I was the outsider. The threat to everyone. But then, I was not. With Luke and Thalia, I felt wanted. I finally had a home. And then, it was torn apart when Thalia was turned into a pine tree. I wanted to go back and help her fight the monsters, but Luke and Grover held me back and dragged my screaming and crying self into camp. Since that day, Camp Half – Blood was my home, my sanctuary.

Luke and I had training sessions in the arena every day and caught up on each other's lives. He was handsome, charming, sweet, funny, loyal, witty…. perfect. I had a little crush on him. Okay maybe not so little, more like humongous. Like the Sun.

Oh right! I completely forgot to mention, my mother is the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare – Athena.

Anyways, enough about me. Back to the boy in the infirmary. Chiron had told me his name. It was Percy. Well, Perseus Jackson…. but according to Chiron he went by Percy.

So right now, I was leaning on the railing of the porch in the Big House, watching Chiron beat Mr. D at pinochle. Suddenly, I heard a voice call out, "Mr. Brunner!". It was Percy. As Chiron welcomed him to camp, I analyzed him.

He was scrawny, about a few inches shorter than me. His head was a rat's nest. He had shaggy black locks that fell into his eyes, but he did not seem to care. His eyes were a striking green. Like the ocean on a calm day. Mr. D said something, and they changed into a darker green. Still like the ocean, but on a stormy day. They had specks of blue in them near the irises. It made him look like an intriguing person. On top of it all, he was holding a Minotaur horn in his hand.

Then, Chiron called me forward and introduced me. He asked me to go check if his bunk in cabin eleven was ready. I looked down at Percy, only to find him staring at me with a smug look. He probably expected me to praise him or be in awe of him. But I was no idiotic coward. I had had my fair share of adventures on the way to camp. I was not going to bow to him.

So, I said, without thinking, "You drool in your sleep". And then I ran for my life.
