It was a calm and sunny day by the sea. One of those days when the usually cool sea is at least a little warm. Residents of the Tri-City enjoyed this day lounging unusually crowded on the coast or serving the tourists from all over the country who wanted to spend their vacation on the coast. Those who preferred to spend time more actively went to the port and its surroundings of one of the two ports of the Tri-City. What attracted tourists were two warships that could be seen from the city beaches. One standing near the wharf of Gdynia and serving as a year-round museum. And the other quietly standing in the roadstead of the port of Gdańsk, from time to time was partially open to the public, but usually served as a support ship for the land forces, despite its age. Both were veterans of World War II and their best days were long behind the bow of the ship standing in Gdańsk, from time to time someone would notice a tall woman in an old navy uniform. She could always be seen looking to the east. Despite trying, the sailors never managed to find out who it was, although some said it was the ship's spirit itself standing there and looking towards its former homeland. The theory could be just a simple conjecture if not for the fact that the dates when it appears on the bow coincide with important holidays in the old homeland. Of course, this is just a guess considering the fact that you can hardly ever see her from the ship.
The roar of the ship's guns broke the silence and announced the beginning of the naval battle which will go down in history as the place where the final blow was dealt to the Empire and made it impossible for it to continue fighting effectively at sea, being its greatest defeat in terms of the number of ships and sailors lost in its history. The roar of the planes mingled with the booming of the anti-aircraft guns. Despite the efforts and devotion of the sailors, the defeat of their side was imminent. The enemy was simply too many and their own air force could not stop them all. Missiles, bombs and torpedoes seemed to always hit them. And the largest ship was like a magnet for the enemy, who was venting his rage on it. All for nothing. The woman on the bow of the ship that no one saw was thinking to herself. We were trying to fight someone we cannot defeat. Someone who is going to crush us all and send us to our graves for daring to attack them and trying to take over the ocean. Suddenly she saw a key of enemy planes heading towards her. Getting ready to end it, she closed her eyes not wanting to see it, suddenly she heard a cry
-Hey, can you hear me? -She opened her eyes to see a sunny and peaceful day. Uh, it was just a bad dream. Suddenly she felt someone slap her on the back and yell. -Don't fucking ignore me!-She turned and saw a young girl in a navy blue uniform of the navy. The cap on her head revealed her name. -Sorry, Błysk, I didn't hear you, I was just thinking -The girl called Błysk crossed her arms on her chest and looked gloomily -Is it the same again as Naga? -And with a movement of her hand she quickly interrupted Naga's answer -No fucking around that you think you should go down then. Cedynia also has the same fate as you and somehow she doesn't complain about it and doesn't waste time on bullshit - she added with a tone cutting off unnecessary discussion. Naga nodded calmly knowing that the Błysk was right. After a brief moment, she remembered what Błysk wanted to talk about. - Błysk. I wanted to tell you something.-
-What do you want to tell me? -Błysk asked calmly, out of curiosity, knowing that her friend rarely wants to talk about anything, more like she is the one who starts and leads the conversation. -Because, you see...-began Naga uncertainly only to stop after a moment and then shake her head in displeasure at herself and at the thought that she was useless -Because, you see, sometimes besides my nightmares from the war I have some strange dreams. Błysk tilted head curiously. - In the sense of how strange? Dreams generally are strange, if I've heard correctly as some people used to say on board.- She shook her head in denial. - Not in the strange sense. I mean that sometimes I have dreams as if I were me and not me at the same time.-Błysk looked at with puzzlement.-What do you mean? I don't really understand.
-Calmly but hurriedly Naga replied- It's just that I have with atomic weapons exploding on me, other times I see myself but already in human form fighting something strange, something that arouses my disgust and fear. And the last time...-she paused anxiously, as if she was seeing her nightmare something she never wants to see, which is ironic for what it is.-And the last time I saw coastlines burned, and people murdered for fun by, THOSE MONSTERS! -she added hysterically, and then she started crying- I know that someone like me shouldn't cry, I'm an battleship, dammit!
She went up to Nagi Błysk and started to comfort her - It's ok Naguś, there's nothing to be ashamed of, no one here will look at it wrong, we've told you more than once you're one of us and the name we gave you shows what we think of you - you remember that story in the museum that we overheard right? If someone could see it up close, they'd get a good laugh at the way it looks, namely a huge woman crying like a little girl is comforted by a little girl who acts like a grown woman. -Yes you're right Błysk, there's no need to be embarrassed...- she paused and both of them stood on their hind legs when they heard the screams calling for help from anyone who could help them. - What the hell?- asked Błysk and together with Naga she started looking around the area. Suddenly a song came to their ears.
Bracia do bitwy, nadszedł czas,
Trąba do boju wzywa nas,
Do boju, do boju!
Pospieszajmy wraz!
-Is that it? -Naga asked. -Yes, it's the Camp March, but from where? I don't see anyone singing in the area.- Błysk replied. Then she felt something as the song went on that they needed her frantically to fight. An unspoken request realizing that theoretically this should not be possible and they do not have to answer but deeply asking for her to show up for them so they can survive against an enemy that seems unstoppable.
Zdradny sąsiad myśl natężył,
Jakby niszczyć polskie plemię,
Wziął w opiekę, uciemiężył,
Rwał na części naszą ziemię.
She looked at Naga -You can feel it can't you? - Naga nodded -Yes I can feel it- Błysk smiled -So let's go, our Mother Fatherland is calling us to fight for her remaining children!.- As she said this there was a flash that engulfed both of them. When it was gone, there was no trace and the sailors on the ship felt that their girl had gone on an adventure. The captain in turn reacted with laughter as he felt this. Then he took out a bottle of wine and poured himself a glass and made a toast -I wish you good health, you'll need it, don't worry about us, we're always with you. He sat down quietly on a chair in the captain's cabin, then looked at the wall and saw a board with two names on it. -And your name will be with you, Westerplatte- Then he returned to his work.
Hello everyone who strayed into this part of fanfiction I hope you enjoyed it. And now a few words of introduction from the author, you must know that the original is in Polish and some words do not necessarily fit in English but it makes sense because the narrator tells the story explaining it as only he can and he is a person. He's a secret person for now but you can find him in my other fanfic and maybe even here. And now a short glossary
Błysk-Flash, it's a diminutive of who, just like her friends.
Brothers to battle, the time has come,
Trumpet's calling us to battle,
To battle, to battle!
Let's hurry up together!
The treacherous neighbor's thought has intensified,
As if to destroy the Polish tribe,
He took us into his care, he oppressed us,
He tore our land into pieces. - The first two verses from the camp march, I recommend to read the moment when it flies, having it on in the background. Another thing is that the first verse is one of the signals of the Polish Army, as you can easily guess.
Oh, and I forgot, thank you for reading and staying with the follow and comments and I hope we will see the end of this story,
