Chapter 0: Prologue
A/N: Hey gang, I'll have this along with chapter one up together. Enjoy!
It is 2015 in the fortress city known as Tokyo-3, which is currently the hotspot for every battle in the Angel War.
Today, the 11th angel, classified as Sahaquiel, was defeated. It was caught by Evangelion Unit-01 as Unit-00 destroyed it's AT-field and Unit-02 delivered the killing blow.
That night, the pilots of each Eva unit were treated to a dinner by their Major, one Misato Katsuragi.
It was late when Rei Ayanami departed from the group and returned to her apartment.
Settling into her run-down and messy apartment, which contained not much more than a room with a bed, a few cabinets with a lot of prescription pills for a 14 year-old, and one small bathroom.
After readying herself for sleep, thoughts began to creep into Rei's head.
Thoughts that she did not previously think, not until her shy, yet well-meaning co-pilot, and her brash, hotheaded co-pilot entered her life.
And living alone, the most prominent thought shone through the rest.
It is quiet.
Rei was starting to become averse to the quiet.
Misato entered her apartment, one that she had been living in since she started at NERV. Behind her walked Shinji Ikari and Asuka Langely Sohryu, the pilots of Unit-01 and Unit-02. They were each quieter than usual purely out of fatigue. Even Asuka, with her short-tempered demeanour, was too tired to quip, so she trudged to the bathroom to ready herself for bed.
Misato sat down with a beer and drank away as Shinji changed into his nightwear and waited for his turn in the bathroom. Taking far less time than his two roommates, he bid each of them goodnight and headed to his room.
"Good job today, both of you" said Misato with a smile, addressing her charges.
"Thanks" they responded in unison, a lingering effect of their training.
The feeling in the room was content.
Shinji hit his bed with utmost comfort and grabbed his SDAT music player off of his nightstand, which was part of his nightly routine. He unwrapped the earbuds and put them in his ear, ready to drift off to the music he knew like the back of his hand.
This was until the tape began to sound distorted and let out a small pop in his ears before not emitting any sound at all.
"Dammit. Guess I have to buy a new tape." he pondered aloud as he set the currently useless player back on the nightstand and surrendered himself to sleep.
A/N: This is literally the second fanfic I've ever written, so pardon the sloppiness. You'll see where this is going when you hit "Next."
Until next time!
