Prologue
If it weren't for my dad's lack of self-control or my mother's lack of self-restraint, I wouldn't even know I wasn't human, well not entirely anyway. Or at least I wouldn't have found out when I did. It turns out I'm a half-blood, or demigod if you please. Half human, half god/goddess. This all started in Houston Texas, where I was born, well sort of. That was twelve years ago. I found out the truth, eventually, after all nothing stays hidden forever. In my case, this was the fact that my mother was a goddess.
Twelve years earlier. Houston Texas, February 17th, 1999.
A massive storm came in from the Gulf of Mexico, it was almost a hurricane. Lightning stabbed down from the sky, with enough light that even the streetlights looked dim. Thunder crashed so loud that a cannon firing would be comparable to the noise. Rain came down in buckets, so densely that visibility was down to zero, yet through it all, Michael Parker saw a glimmer in the rain, as it got closer he realized that it was a rain coat wrapped around a woman. She staggered like she was half dead, Mike let her in and later she told him who she was. The Greek goddess Athena.
Well I don't really know how things transpired and I don't really care but either way I came into existence somehow, presumably from Athena's head like she did from Zeus, but I really have no idea. Please don't ask me to explain.
Anyway, Athena used the powers she had because of being a divine entity to create fake photos of me being born by a woman who she created a mistform of. She also created a mistform of a girl. These mist forms were the most advanced ever. They could think for themselves, speak fluently, and do everything a living person might do, including grow, mature, and age. Athena also put two brown contact lenses into my eyes.
Athena wished Mike luck, knowing she wouldn't see him again, at least not for a long time. What neither she nor Mike realized was that I would remember the things I'd already seen for a long time.
Chapter One
My pre-algebra teacher has a deadly secret
I go to a small middle school, it more or less works well for me. It's three months in. The classes are small, the teachers really helpful, and that works well for me. My elementary school didn't quite work for me. Well, my whole life so far things have been, strange. For me, weird is normal. I've experienced dreams weirder than seemingly possible, seen bizarre animals, heard strange noises, and more. For as long as I can remember I've had strange dreams. Two of them keep happening over and over again. One is where I'm in some strange room with these huge people looking down at me. The people are both men and women. They hold different things. I know what they are now but it makes no sense.
There's a man with a scarred face, he wears dark shades, and he looks like trouble. Not only that but his very presence just fills me with this irrational anger and hate. I have no idea why that is. Then there's a man with spiky black hair, his green eyes are like emeralds, with a piercing gaze, and he holds a trident, again no clue what that's about. Another man has dark gray hair, a thick gray beard, and holds a lightning bolt. Seriously how do you hold something that's made of pure energy? There's also a woman with shoulder length hair the color of grain. Another woman holds a spear, has thundercloud gray eyes, and has owl perched on her shoulder. Another woman has this...aura around her. It's like she radiates beauty.
Strangest of all I feel small, weak, and helpless, and I'm surrounded by what looks like walls made of weaved grasses. You get the idea, it's weird. I mean honestly my brain comes up with the weirdest stuff ever.
The second dream is even stranger, and it has a malevolent vibe to it. It's of a dark murky place. There's a massive pit, and a voice rumbles out. The very sound of it fills me with fear and sends a chill down my spine. This voice talks of destroying the gods and goddesses, I always tell it I don't know what the heck it's talking about. I didn't realize it yet, but the one of the people wasn't a dream, it was a memory. The one about the pit was also not a dream but a vision, hooray!
Also, I somewhat frequently experience things which I can't explain. This may sound vague, and it is. These unexplained happenings range anywhere from teachers acting strange to seeing strange, sometimes terrifying, creatures or humanoids. I've also seen signs of strange animals. I've heard strange animal calls, I've seen weird footprints or other tracks, I've also seen things like strange marks on trees. Marks such as weird gouges, areas where it looks dissolved, and sometimes shredded.
Sometimes when I see writing that looks like Greek, I feel like I should know what it says. I've also seen this one woman, the same one as the one with the owl, multiple times, she's lithe, like an athlete. She has eyes the color of stormclouds. Heck, I don't even know how many times I've seen her. Every time I see her, she's looking at me with love. The kind of love that's only from mother to child. At first, I was sure I was mistaken. However, my dad was always terrified for a moment whenever I would ask him. He's hiding something, I know he is.
Anyway though, back to my middle school. As I said, it's quite small. However, by small I mean as in one hallway and only forty students total, small. Also, the students of this school are so much nicer than those at my elementary school, way nicer. Not only that, but the school's atmosphere is really welcoming as a whole. It is quite inviting and helpful, also since the classes are quite tiny it is much easier for ADHD me to focus. Admittedly I actually needed this for another reason, when I was in second grade, I always had this weird dread about my teacher. I can't even explain it other than that I was so unsettled I had nightmares for weeks after the school year ended and until I left the school after fifth grade I always felt her presence. The stress also contributed to my difficulties interacting with others.
Remember I said that my teachers are helpful? Well there's one who isn't. His name is Mr. Coal, man that guy is weird. He's overweight, therefore you would think that he's slow. But let me tell you, that isn't true. He can run surprisingly fast for such a fat guy. His appetite is also weird. He always brings in bloody meat or meat that happens to look like it's covered in blood (which strangely no one else seems to notice or comment on) and he seems to like torturing me. He also stares at me while he eats it, the look in his eyes as he does that is very unsettling, like it's me he would he really like to be eating. His eyes turn almost black, and this feeling washes over me. A feeling of evil intention. The guy isn't human, I'm certain of it.
Not only that, but I also always try to make sure I'm never the only person in a room with him. Every time I'm near him the hair on the back of my neck stands up and I never let him out of my sight for more than a second. Why you ask? Because I have a gut feeling telling me not to trust him. I'm also always tense when I'm in his vicinity, ready to flee at the slightest sign of hostility. Furthermore, I always stay as far away from him as I can. It was the end of the school day, and I was packing up my stuff to leave when Mr. Coal asked me to stay a bit longer.
"Why?" I asked warily, I didn't have a good feeling about this. The hair on my neck stood up. He and I were the only ones in the room, which I'd always tried to avoid, and on top of that, there was this vibe in the room. It was the feel of an evil presence. It was coming from Mr. Coal. My brain was telling me I was in danger and that I needed to leave, like right now.
"I just want to talk to you" he responded. Was it just me, or did his voice sound deeper than usual?
"What about?" I asked really wanting to leave now, I had an ominous sense of danger. I really felt like danger was looming, alarm bells were going in my head. Every instinct was telling me to get out of there as soon as possible. I wanted absolutely nothing to do with him, and especially not given the circumstances.
"Oh, just what you hoped you would do if you survive to the end of the school year."
Every nerve in my body was telling me to run, Mr. Coal's voice was definitely deeper. Was he taller now than he was a few minutes ago? Yes, he was definitely taller. His teeth were sharper and he looked more muscled than fat now.
"You see, I'm not what you thought I was" he rumbled.
I stared at the creature my teacher had turned into. It looked like a human, sort of. However, now he was eight feet tall, had very muscled arms and legs, had matted hair and bloodshot eyes, his teeth were like daggers.
All my suspicions about him were true, he really wasn't human. He was a monster. Not just any monster though, a monster who was obviously eager for human flesh. Suddenly I tensed my own muscles in readiness. I'd always had fast reflexes, but for what I was about to do I would need them more than ever. The monster leaped for me, but I was ready. I flashed to one side, as I did so I could have sworn for that for just a few moments time contracted around me, everything else but me moving sluggishly. Then, everything returned to normal speed, leaving me wondering if I imagined it. The ugly beast slammed into closet. He fell to the ground moaning and clutching his head.
"Rrrggghh, my head hurts" he growled.
Getting to his feet and turning toward me faster than I thought possible, he slammed me with his arm so hard I flew across the room and smacked into the wall next to the window. My vision was blurred with agony. I was certain I was going to die. Mr. Coyle the ugly monster walked up and loomed over me. He raised a fist for the death blow.
Suddenly there was a FWISH and an arrow shot through the open window and sunk into the monster's chest. He froze, then looked down at the arrow. A look of disappointment and surprise flooded his face.
"Plan go bye-bye" he rumbled. Then he crumbled into dust.
I tried to get up but darkness rushed over me and I fell back to the floor.
