Lucien is actually successful in killing Hayley, Elijah, Freya, Marcel and Kol. Klaus somehow manages to runaway with Hope but Lucien follows him. They end up in a godown in Brooklyn where Klaus hides hope in one of the stores and goes to face Lucien. Their battle starts, they hit each other with blows and whatever objects their hands find.
The battle is on when young Hope walks inside and opens a coffin, she sees at the human lying peacefully and with so much chaos going on, all the baby wanted was the warmth of a mother, she knew she wasn't her mother but her face made her want to go cuddle to her. She walks into the coffin and snuggles to the woman in there, the baby's call for warmth is answered as Elena opens her eyes, she sees the child cuddled to her, she wraps her arms around her and sits holding the baby to her chest.
She can hear the war going outside, she can hear Klaus and she can hear another vampire who is threatening to Kill Klaus' daughter before killing him. Klaus yells back at him that he would never find his daughter. She hears the sound of some object breaking and she can hear Klaus scream. She is in the dark room and she doesn't dare step out of it, no way, she had a child to save.
Elena looks here and there for an object, a stake anything to attack the vampire but then it occurs to her a normal vampire is nothing for Klaus, Klaus' bite would kill him, so what is the beast Klaus is facing, her question is soon answered when the door is broke open, revealing the beast Klaus is fighting, Klaus comes from behind and attacks the beast but he is too powerful and he slams Klaus down and walks to where Elena is.
"Oh now darling, give the child to me, you don't want to mess things up do you"
How can someone be so heartless as to ask her to give a child to him so that he could kill it. No, she decided, she won't let him hurt the child. Elena gets up and out of the coffin and Lucien takes slow steps towards her, he is about to reach her when Klaus snatches his daughter away from Elena and runs.
Lucien catches Klaus at the door and Klaus releases Hope, "Hope run" he says but Hope cries instead. Lucien shows his fangs and reaches for Klaus' throat, but his mouth lands on something soft, both Klaus and Lucien are shocked to see Elena's wrist between Klaus neck and Lucien's, teeth, Lucien bit Elena instead.
"You, you are risking your life for a monster, you are the doppelganger, the one Nik tormented"
Elena doesn't respond instead she says, "My blood will make you more powerful, if you want to kill him, drink from me first, doppelganger blood is magic, you know that don't you."
Klaus understood what she was doing because he knew she had the cure and if Lucien drinks her blood he will turn human but he had to make it look more convincing so he said, "No, Lucien, she is lying, her blood is poison, it will kill you."
Elena knew he was backing her up and she said, "No Lucien, you know very well how much he tortured me why would I..."
She doesn't has to complete that sentence and Lucien is already drinking from her wrist, both Klaus and Elena look at each other through the corner of their eyes and smile, soon Lucien falls to the ground, "Wait, what was it" he falls to the ground unconscious.
Elena looks at Hope crying at everything that's going on, she goes near her and tends to her, she lifts her up in her arms and calms her down, Klaus watches her taking care of his daughter and then he turns his attention back to Lucien, he grabs Lucien's heart when Elena says, "Wait, Klaus, I need the cure for Damon, take it out first."
Klaus makes a cut on Lucien's wrist and squeezes the blood out in a bottle, all this while Elena turns Hope around so that Hope's back is to the scene of cruelty, Klaus closes the bottle and then he gives Lucien the most horrible death of all, he turns his hands to paws and attacks him with them so cruelly, tearing him apart bit by bit that Elena cannot watch so she walks a little away from that scene.
Only after when Hope has fallen asleep in her arms she comes to Klaus who is still tearing at the carcass like a maniac. "Klaus" she calls out lightly, he turns to look at her, "he's gone, he's dead"
Klaus looks at the image of his daughter sleeping peacefully in her arms, and his daughter's face is what calms him. He walks to her, his stubble is covered in blood, his clothes have blood all spluttered over them, he forwards his hands to her, so that she may give Hope to him but stops and looks at Elena staring his hands, which are all drenched in blood, blood is dripping down from them as though he has washed his hands with blood.
Klaus drops his hands down, he knows he cannot touch his daughter like that, "come with me" he says and she nods. He walks with her to his car, and sits on the driver's seat while Elena sits in the backseat signing at his face and the girl, he understands that she means if Hope woke up and saw him like that.
He drives with her in the back seat, holding his daughter as one of her own, he wonders if it is because she fears him or is it genuine, after an hour's drive Hope wakes up crying and Elena tries to calm her. It is Klaus who figures out that his daughter is hungry and needs some food, he passes Elena a bag which has baby bottle in it.
Elena takes out the bottle and takes a few drops in her palm and smells it, Klaus sees what she is doing, he is about to say something when she says, "Klaus, the milk, is spoiled, it cannot be fed to her."
Well she was right, he was so engrossed in saving Hope from Lucien that he hadn't realised that the milk had started to smell, though he is a hybrid he should have smelled it first, he looks at the mirror and realises he needs a change of clothes too. He drives them to the nearest supermarket, where Elena goes and buys some baby food and Klaus disappears as soon as she steps out of the car.
She is at the billing counter when she realises that she has no money to buy anything and there is no sign of Klaus. Her tension is relieved when Klaus appears in fresh clothes, white shirt, blue jeans, face cleaned up and hair set, he pays at the billing counter after adding groceries to the list. She thinks it must be for the new sister she heard about before lying into the sleeping curse.
Elena feeds Hope the baby food in the back seat of the car while Klaus drives carefully, making sure his daughter eats nicely, he looks at the rear mirror to see how nicely Elena feeds his kid. After Hope has eaten, Elena pats her back until she burps making sure that the food is down. The drive from Brooklyn to New Orleans is twenty hours long and there is no way he is going to let his daughter suffer so long so he pulls to the nearest Hotel where they could spent the night.
There he orders the king suite, Elena takes Hope with her and lies her down gently on the bed, setting pillows on either side of her so that she may not fall.
She looks at Klaus looking out through the window. She doesn't know what he is going through or what he has suffered in these days but it's time, she needs to inform her friends that she has woken up. She walks to Klaus and before she could say something he says, "I know what you want, but I can't give you that."
She doesn't understand. "Elena, I know you want to return to your friends, but I need you to take care of my daughter."
Elena says, "What about Hayley, where is she? And the new sister?"
"Lucien killed them, I am the only living family Hope has left now, I want you to stay with me and take care of my daughter."
E, "But Klaus, I need to tell them I am awake."
"Not an option" he says turning to her.
"But you can compel anyone to babysit."
"It's not about babysiting Elena, I want someone who knows me well."
"What about Caroline?" She says.
"She is with Stefan" he answers, "And it's not my love interest I am finding, it's Hope's."
He walks to her and grabs her arms, "She found you, she woke you up, she wanted your warmth, she chose you, that's why I want you to take care of her. I know you want to return to your friends but my daughter needs you more."
He holds her chin and fixes his gaze with hers, "You are not going to inform your friends that you are alive, you are not going to let anyone know where you are, you are going to take care of my daughter and help me raise her, you are never going to give up on Hope just like you never gave up on your friends."
