Supplement: You might want to see Coda first to understand most of it. In this story the command team has a secret relationship that has been going on for a while. B'Elanna and Kathryn are good friends and Kes is still onboard. It is four months after coda. Their happiness is destroyed when an old enemy of Kathryn comes back and wants revenge. He makes her suffer and lets the entire crew witness it.
CHAPTER 1: The attack
-Alarm ringing (not for the first time)- „Chakotay, Chakotay wake up. "The man didn't even move a muscle. „Wake up honey. Breakfast is on the table already. "At that he stirred a little. Kathryn decided a different tactic was in need. „COMMANDER! GET YOUR FUCKING ASS OUT OF THE BED. "Chakotay was up in a second. „Well, that was…unexpected "„If you don't hurry, we are going to be late for our shifts and you didn't wake so I took the only option that I knew was going to work. "„You could've just kissed me senselessly and told me how much you love me. "He watched his love getting dressed and the smirk on his face grew. „You won't live through another morning if you don't hurry. Now get in the shower while I replicate us some quick breakfast. "„Yes mam. But first let me do this…. "Chakotay stood up, walked over to his lover, pulled her into a long, sweet kiss and then whispered against her lips: „Good morning my love "She smiled that crooked smile of hers which made his knees go weak. „Good morning to you too honey "
When Chakotay finally got out of the shower he saw a furious Kathryn frantically searching for something. „Ah good you're done. Now could you please be so kind to help me find my second boot and you can wipe this grin of yours right of your face mister. "„Your wish is my command. "He saluted and she leveled one of her best glares at him and then said: „You really have to get me undressed slower. It took me an eternity to find my first boot. Ah there it is. "„If I recall it correctly you wanted our clothes off as quickly as I did last night. But if you want us to go slower… "„Ugh just forget it "„I knew you didn't want that darling but… "He wanted to add something but was cut off when she kissed him full force on the mouth. „Wow. That was… "„Let me guess. Unexpected? "„Yeah. But in a good way. You could've woken me up exactly like this. "He let his dimples show in a wide grin. „Sit down Mr. grinny cat and eat. "
Chakotay smiled when he saw that breakfast was on the table. He was glad that she had reduced skipping meals now that they were almost always eating together.
They sat down at the table and Kathryn was talking about something, but his mind was somewhere else. „Chakotay? Chakotay? "„Sorry. What did you say? "„I was just telling you about my plans this evening. But are you alright? You looked like you were light years away. "„I was just thinking of how lucky I am to have you by my side. These last four months have been the best time of my life. I love you, Kathryn. I don't know what I did to deserve you. "At this Kathryns eyes welled up and a soft smile spread across her face. „I love you too Chakotay. Never forget that. Three years ago, we were enemies and strangers, today I can't imagine a day without you. "They smiled at each other and communicated silently through their eyes until Kathryn stood up and pulled her jacket on: „See you later? My quarters? I might have to tell you something. "„Sounds perfect. I may have to tell you something myself. "They headed to the bridge separately so that no one would suspect anything. All in all, it was a pretty relaxed shift.
Later that day:
Kathryn jogged through the corridors and was a little out of breath when she arrived at her quarters. She saw as the doors opened that her two guests had already arrived. „I am so sorry. Tuvok thought it was a good idea to go through all of our system reports 5 minutes before the end of my shift. "B'Elanna smiled and said: „No problem at all. Good thing though that you gave us your code to get into your quarters. I imagine it would've been a funny sight to see the chief engineer and the nurse waiting in front of the captain's door with ice cream and face masks "The three women chuckled at the thought. Kes then spoke: „So what are we going to have for dinner tonight? "They all agreed on some simple pasta with parmesan.
After finishing their meal, they moved to the couch and started eating the coffee ice cream. All of them were in their tank tops now and laughing about some comment that B'Elanna had made when the Ocampa noticed something. „Omg. Kat what is that wound on your neck? "Kathryn rose from her chair and walked into the bathroom to look into a mirror. Suddenly the chief engineer began to giggle. Kes and Kathryn starred with confused expressions at her which only made the engineer laugh harder. Kathryn rose a neatly plucked eyebrow and asked: „What is it? "The Klingon tried to catch her breath and then said when she had calmed down a little: „I can't believe it. The protocol-loving Captain Kathryn Janeway has a hickey. "Kes gasped and then chuckled while Kathryn blushed and gaped. „Close your mouth Kath or you will swallow a fly. But do tell us who that lover of yours is. I have a pretty good idea, but I want to hear you say it. "„It is not a hickey I simply bumped into a wall or door. "Both of her friends rose Vulcan like eyebrows. Kes encouraged her: „Oh come on Kathryn. It is a girl's night after all, you can tell us. "The captain was opening her mouth to say something but then decided differently and said instead: „I need some alcohol for this conversation. "
All of them sat down on the couch again with red wine glasses in hand. B'Elanna asked excitedly: „So who is he? How long has it been going on? When were you planning on telling us? And most importantly: How is the sex? "„Well, it is Chakotay. "The captain noticed the expressions on their faces. „Oh, come on you can at least pretend to be surprised. Anyways we've been in a relationship for four months now and were planning on telling you when we were six months together. "„You left out a question. Is it good or goooood? "„It is perfect. Any more questions "„Yes one and this is the most important one B'Elanna. Are you happy? "„I am the happiest I have ever been. It feels like I am constantly floating on a cloud. I know that it sounds silly, but I am truly happy. Please don't tell anyone yet. "B'Elanna turned serious: „I think I can speak for the entire crew here: You deserve all the happiness in the world Kathryn Janeway. You sacrificed so much for all of us. If anyone deserves to be happy it, is you. But we will keep your secret till you want to tell the rest of the crew "Tears sprang into Kathryns eyes and the three of them hugged tightly. B'Elanna then asked: „So how did the two of you get together? "„Do you remember the incident were this alien tried to get me into his matrix "The other two females nodded. „Well, Chakotay visited me in my ready room after the event and we went to the holodeck. We sailed in the moon light on Lake George and drank champagne. After all it doesn't happen every day that you cheat death. Anyways we started talking about death and he then said, I quote `Kathryn this day was the worst of my entire life and you can imagine that I've had pretty rough ones. You mean the world to me and as you lay there dying, I realized that I never truly told you how I feel. I love you Kathryn Janeway more than life itself. More than anyone else. I just want you to know that' "„And what did you reply? "„I said: `Chakotay but you did, and I don't mean the legend. You told me every day in standing behind me. I love you too' and then I just kissed him "Kes squealed „Aww that is so romantic "B'Elanna just smiled but then a frown formed between her brows: „Wait a minute. What legend? "„Oh, that is a long story. "„Go on ", B'elanna urged. Kathryn took a sip from her wine only to instantly spit it back. Kes was confused: „What is it? Doesn't the wine taste good? "„Uhm it is nothing. Really. "The nurse and the chief engineer exchanged short looks. „It really is nothing. "„I don't think it is nothing Kathryn. You look like you are about to cry. You can tell us anything you know that. "You could tell that B'El was deadly serious when she said Kathryn and not Kath. Her captain was like an unbiological sister to her, and she wanted to protect her from every pain. B'El took Janeways hands in hers and tried to catch her eye. „Hey Kathryn look at me. Please talk to us. "Kathryns mascara was running down her face now and she sniffed: „Ugh damn hormones. I hate being so emotional "Kes spoke up again: „Honey you don't have to hide your emotions from us you know that right? "The human nodded and wiped her nose on her sleeve. B'Elanna asked with compassion: „Is it that time of the month again? "The captain shook her head no. „Then why did you say `damn hormones´? "„Because…because…. Oh man I haven't even told Chakotay yet. Omg Chakotay. How will he react? "„What is it Kath we're there for you. Are you sick? Is it something medical? Does the doctor know? "„Yes…No…. Yes…I don't even know "„Okay Kathryn slow down. Come on breath in and out and then tell us exactly what's going on "„I am not sick, and the doctor doesn't know. I guess you could say it is a medical condition. I detected it yesterday when I scanned myself with a tricorder. "„Just tell us what it is Kathryn! "„Alright, alright. I am…man this is hard to say…I. I am pregnant. "„Congratulations. That's great news, isn't it? Are you going to have this child? "„Yes, I want to have it but will Chakotay want it? And I still am the captain. How can I captain this vessel while being a mother? My first duty is to this crew. I can't let anything compromise that duty. And what would the crew or Starfleet say? Am I going to be a good mother? "„Kathryn, I know the big guy longer than anybody on board. He is going to be thrilled and you are going to be the best mother that has ever been. This crew will stand behind you and will see this child as their own. We are one big family and there is just going to be one wonderful new member. You are the strongest person I have ever seen you can handle being the captain and a great mother and you will have the support of the entire crew. Especially mine. Don't even start with Starfleet. We are a long way from them and will probably spend a little time away, they can't expect you to not live. You deserve better and if they do say anything against it screw them. This is your life, and it is entirely your decision. If you want to have this child, have it. We'll be here for you no matter what. "All three women were crying openly now. „Thank you. Thank you so much. I love the both of you so much. What would I do without you? "„We love you too. So, what is this legend about? "
Later that evening Chakotay and Kathryn were curled up together on the couch. „B'Elanna and Kes know about us now. "Chakotay looked down at Kathryn who lay in his arms. „You don't seem surprised Chakotay. "„No, I am not. In fact, I had a little visit from B'Elanna earlier. She told me in these exact words: `If you hurt her or just look at her in the wrong way or do any injustice to her, I will hunt you down and torture you for all eternity. I will watch with pleasure how you suffer till your last second and believe me I won't give a fuck how much you plead. And big man I won't be the only one to enjoy this. So, take care of her, will you? ´ "Kathryn looked stunned but then a small smile lights up her face. „What did you reply big man? "„I said that I wouldn't even think about you in the wrong way because you are the energy that keeps me going onward. That seemed to calm her, but I am still a little afraid of her. It seems like you have got one hell of a mama bear as a protector. "Kathryn laughed out loud at that and it felt good to hear it.
Chakotay then decided that he would never get a more perfect timing. He untangled himself gently from her and pulled her with him to their feet. Janeway shot him a confused look but he smiled reassuringly at her and she instantly felt at peace. The man took her left hand in his bigger one and slowly got down on one knee. She covered her mouth with her right hand when he pulled out a little black velvet box. Chakotay spoke with a calm and pure voice: „Kathryn Elizabeth Janeway, you are the reason that I look forward to each new day. You are the reason I learnt the true meaning of peace. You are the reason I keep pushing even when I am desperate. I want to spend my entire life with you. I want us to grow old together. Will you do me the honor and be my wife? "Tears were streaming down her cheeks freely now and she was overwhelmed with different emotions. But the most dominating one was love. Love for this pure and beautiful man who was gifted to her by angels. She held down a happy sob and then spoke with a more certain voice than he had ever heard: „Yes. Yes, I want all of that too. How do I deserve you? "He put the small ring which was decorated with a tiny diamond on her delicate fingers. Kathryn pulled her new fiancé up to her and kissed him with all her soul. She put all of her love for him into this kiss and he responded with the same intensity. They only broke for the need of air. The newly engaged looked into each other's eyes. He looked into the deepest pools of blue which were filled with happiness, anticipation and love. She into the warmest depths of brown which were filled by admiration, relief and love. Their foreheads touched and they whispered words of love. „Chakotay there is something I need to tell you. I. "„All senior officers to the bridge immediately.
Chakotay and Kathryn looked at each other with equally sad expressions and she whispered: „Lets go. We will talk later. I have to tell you something very important. "They left her quarters and ran to the nearest turbo lift. As they arrived on the bridge someone fired at Voyager. The captain nearly lost her balance but Chakotay was there to catch her as so often. She smiled at him in thanks and then said with her captains mask in place: „Report! "
Tuvok replied instantly: „We are being attacked by an alien vessel. We detected them just a few minutes ago. Shields are holding. "
Janeway went down to the command center followed closely by Chakotay. „Hail them, Harry. "„No response "„Open a channel. I am Captain Kathryn Janeway of the federation starship Voyager. Stop your attack immediately! "
Harry stated: „They are hailing us "„On screen. "A grey skinned muscular alien threatened: „Surrender Janeway. Lower your shields or we will lower them forcefully ". „We won't do that, but may I ask why and who the hell am I talking to? "„You will know and fear my name soon enough `Kathryn´ and it would be in your own interest to lower your shields so that we can board your ship "Janeway raised her chin and spat out: „As I already said I won't lower them, and I don't recall us being on a first name basis. If you continue to fire on us, we will not wait to destroy you. "„I will call you what I want. And I doubt that your weapons are any threat to us ", the alien simply said and ended the transmission.
The next few minutes passed for the entire bridge crew in a blur. The captain began to bark out orders: „Raise the shields. Power weapons. Tuvok what kind of weapons do they own? "„They have some kind of shield around them. I am not able to read anything. "„Damnit! "The ship began to shake violently as their newfound enemies began to fire at them. Voyager took one hit after another. „Report ", yelled the captain. „Our shields are at 30% and failing ", said Tuvok. Chakotay whispered to the captain: „We should retreat "The captain nodded grimly: „ Mr. Paris maximum warp. Get us out of here. "
BÉlanna who was in engineering spoke up right then: „I heard you captain, but I am afraid that won't be possible. The warp core is offline, and we don't have impulse. It will take hours to fix the engines. "„Captain we are being boarded through the shuttle bay. "Chakotay wondered: „How did they get through our shields and why didn't we detect them earlier? "Tuvok began to answer when suddenly the turbo lift doors opened, and several heavy armed aliens stormed onto the bridge. All of them were male and they were at least one head taller as Chakotay.
Tuvok and Chakotay pulled out their phasers immediately. The leader who had spoken to them before just laughed out loud: „Oh, what a warm greeting but to be entirely honest it doesn't surprise me. Tell them to lower their weapons, Janeway. "Kathryn nodded to her men and they complied instantly. The leader slowly walked over to Janeway. Chakotay moved in front of her but the alien laughed again and kicked him in the stomach. The former Maqui grunted but didn't step away. The alien turned angry now and raised his hand to hit him, Kathryn saw that and spat out with her death glare in full form: „Stop this. Now. What the hell do you want from us. You boarded us, what're you going to do next? And would you please be so kind to tell us your name? "During her small speech she stepped carefully in front of her First Officer.
„If you insist but I warn you my name will haunt you for eternity. My name is Payton. Make sure to remember it you are going to scream it later. And as for what I want. I want you, Kathryn Janeway. In every way possible and your entire crew is going to witness it. Quick warning at the start: Do not underestimate or fight me. You would fail and probably die in the process and we don't want that now do we? "
„What do you mean? Why do you want me and what is going to happen to my crew? "„ Your entire crew is currently in cargo bay 1. All of them will be fine as long as you comply. One wrong move Kathryn and one of the pays the price. Well, I want you my dearest for payback. Don't you remember me? Oh, come on it has only been four months. "„I am not sure I can follow you. "„Well, I suggest you assemble your highest crew members for the shocking revelation. The mess hall in 10 minutes and make sure that little kitchen rat of yours and that ocampa are there. "The alien left the bridge and went into the ready room. „Janeway to all senior officers and Neelix and Kes. Meeting in the mess hall immediately. "
Two minutes later:
Everyone had arrived in the mess hall and the situation was crystal clear. They were overpowered and had to comply. They couldn't risk the safety of the crew. Janeway was pacing from one side to the other. „Who could they be and what did we or I do to them? What happened four months ago? "Janeways and Chakotays gazes met and Janeway stopped paces. They said in union: „Shit. The matrix. "B'Elanna and Kes gasped while the others looked slightly confused until they remembered. Then their expressions held similar shock. Neelix voiced the question everyone was thinking first: „Why do they want you Captain and how did they get into the real or living life? "Tuvok explained the first question: „They clearly want the captain out of revenge. She was the first one who could resist them. I See no explanation for the other question. "B'Elanna spoke up next: „Kathryn could I talk to you for a moment in private. "The women nodded and went into a corner. They spoke in hushed tones. „Kathryn, you can't let them do anything to you. You or the baby could get hurt. "„I can't do anything B'El. Payton would hurt the others. I can't allow that, and you know it. "„I know. Please just be careful. You have to consider a second life now. I already care for this little thing a lot. "Tears began to form in both of their eyes, and they hugged each other tightly. They separated when Chakotay came over. B'Elanna squeezed her ‚sisters 'arm and mouthed: „Tell him now or you will regret it. "Kathryn silently agreed and watched her go. „Kathryn please you have to be careful. I can't afford to lose you. We will find a way out I promise. The minute all of this is over we will marry. Never lose hope I will be there for you. I love you. "His lover took his hands and spoke in the softest voice he ever heard: „I have to tell you something and it can't wait. Chakotay…. I am…. "She was cut off when the doors on the opposite end of the mess hall opened and Payton stormed in saying: „Now shall we begin. "
