When he entered, he spotted his headphones on the desk immediately, and, smiling, made his way across the room to grab them. As he did, the drumming became silent. The DJ turned to the back of the classroom where the drums were set up, expecting to see Ivan.
"Aww, dude, why'd you st-?" His voice drifted off.
"Hey, Nino." Adrien gave an awkward wave while still holding a drumstick. "I didn't think anyone would be coming in here. Sorry."
"Adrien?"
It took a second or two for Nino to find his words. When he did, his expression of surprise turned into a grin.
"No way, dude! I had no idea you played drums!" He said excitedly, dashing closer to the set. "How long have you been playing? How'd you even convince your old man to let you learn? How come you never told me?"
"In order: not too long, probably a couple of months; I didn't, he has no idea I can; and I don't know, it just never occurred to me that I should tell you." Adrien listed, counting on his fingers. "Anything else?"
"Actually, yeah, dude. I thought you were supposed to be in a fencing lesson right now?"
"I was but it was cancelled, so I have some time to kill before my bodyguard gets here to collect me." Adrien shrugged, twirling the drumstick between his fingers.
"Nice! Mind playing me a few beats? I've suddenly got inspiration for a new remix."
Adrien chuckled.
"Oh, I wonder why?" He said with a smirk, resting his chin on his hand.
"Don't flatter yourself," Nino rolled his eyes but was still smiling, "I was intending to make some new chords anyhow."
"Alright then, tell me what you're looking for and I'll see what I can do for you."
He began playing again, this time something with a faster tempo than before. Nino was instantly able to get into the beat, clapping his hands in sync as well as nodding along once more.
"Dude, how'd you do that?" Nino asked as Adrien's drumming slowed to a halt.
"Do what?"
"That beat! Did you just make it up on a whim? Because that was great!"
"It's nothing special, Nino. I'm kinda just making it up as I got along."
"That's exactly what makes it great, Adrien!" Nino out his arm around his best friend, "That's how every good song starts out!"
"I guess I never really thought of it that way."
"That's why it's always good to have a second perspective of things."
"When did you become so deep?" Adrien raised an eyebrow at Nino's words.
"I am wise beyond my years, young man." Nino hunched over, pretending to walk with a cane. The blonde snorted. Nino straightened to his full height again, "But seriously, I can be serious sometimes too. I just choose to be the fun guy."
"I suppose that means I'm the boring guy."
"I never said that! "
"I'm just messing with you, Portobello."
"Portobell-? Oh..." Nino realised, "Very funny, dude."
"I try to be."
"Okay, come on, I need beats." Nino clasped his hands together. "Work your magic."
"Abracadabra." Adrien waved the drumstick in his hand as if it were a wand. He then tapped the end of it onto Nino's cap, knocking it out of place. "Ta da! Magic, my friend!"
Nino adjusted his hat, laughing.
"But for real, dude, give me a beat."
"One beat coming up!" Adrien, grabbed his second drumstick and twirled them both simultaneously. "Ready when you are, Nino."
