Ok, so I basically wanted to write the backstory for Luke because I feel like we know a lot about his past, but also it feels like we know nothing at all. Anyway, this is that, give it a shot if it sounds like something you might enjoy. Obviously, I don't own anything besides the character of Luke's mother and a few other side characters along the way. I didn't want to, but I had to make her up almost entirely because we are told literally nothing about her, not even her name.
1964
Lucas Danes was born to William Danes and Charlotte 'Lottie' Danes on November 3rd, 1964. His were two of the most anxious parents the maternity staff had ever seen. First-time parents, and older parents too, meaning they neither had the confidence youth or experience. What they did have in bucketloads, the staff all agreed, was love. For each other and for their new baby boy.
It wasn't that the staff of the Hartford maternity ward were gossips. They never usually discussed patients in this much depth, but William and Charlotte were a somewhat striking couple. William was gruff and rough-looking, but handsome in a rugged way. He didn't communicate with people all that much and hated being constantly checked on. He spent most of his time pacing the ward, wringing his hands, and growling at nurses, demanding they do something to ease his wife's pain. He may be angry at the world, the nurses agreed, but he sure did love that girl.
It was easy to see why. Lottie had made friends with half the ward in the six hours she'd been there. One mother on the ward had already asked Lottie and William to be godparents to her newborn daughter. Lottie was a quiet, unassuming woman, but when you spoke to her she looked at you so intensely that it made you want to tell her your whole life story. She didn't instantly strike you as being drop-dead gorgeous, but the more time you spent with her, the more you saw that there was real beauty there. She was a friend to all, the nurses agreed fondly. They loved Lottie. So much so that when she returned two years later to deliver her second child, her daughter, the nurses all made sure that they were all there to welcome her and ensure she got the best possible treatment. Whenever she brought the children in for minor health complaints, they were always made a fuss of and had the staff bickering over who got to babysit them.
Lucas Danes came into the world screaming. Lottie stuck her arms out, tears streaming down her face. "Give him to me. Please, I want him. Could someone please get William to come in here?"
The staff nodded and rushed out to get William. It wasn't customary for fathers to be in the delivery room. A custom William seemed on the fence about. Clearly, he hated hospitals, blood, and any sort of medical procedure but he had spent the labor pressed up against the exterior wall of the delivery room, desperate to be let in and flinching every time Lottie cried out. As soon as the door opened, he was straight inside, checking Lottie over to make sure she was alright and placing a hand gently on his newborn baby.
"It's a boy, my love," Lottie told him, quietly. "A boy. Just like you wanted."
"A boy," William murmured.
