War... War Never Changes.
When mankind, blinded by its own lust for power and conquest, discovered the power behind the Fission of the Atom, it marked their inevitable demise. And standing beside them, whether as faithful companions or simple tools of war, Pokémon were forced to watch helplessly.
As various Technologies advanced, the standard of living had drastically improved, and the need for war should have faded with time. But it never did. Humanity's lust for Power is never sated. And it was bound to catch up to them.
Disaster struck. Regardless of who sent the initial strike, countless lives were lost, and families destroyed. As a result, Humankind was erased from the world nearly in its entirety. The remaining few survivors slaughtered each other, be it in mania, for vengeance, or out of desperation. When the last Human fell, they had left their dying world for Pokémon to inherit.
Initially, Pokémon thought they were above the flaws of humanity. That we could come together to create something new, something better than what was left for us. But as the days marched on, it became clear how misguided we were.
Pokémon fell victim to the same mistakes of our predecessors. Those of us who managed to take back shreds of the Wasteland were not satisfied, and desired more. The weak were trampled, manipulated, enslaved.. and if they refused, were erased like the Humans before us.
Radiation had long since left its mark, even on us. Abilities became weaker, Moves were forgotten, and Types merged together over time, until the very concept was forgotten. We were defenseless, and desperate..
Left feeling vulnerable, and with no other options, we turned to Humanity once more. Taking their Weapons of War and using them as our Moves, our Types, our Abilities. Boldly arming ourselves with the hubris of Humanity, as if it hadn't caused their destruction.
Very few heed the warnings all around us, some revelling in the desolation caused by the Great War, and are doomed to repeat it. We felt we were better than Humankind, we were above their mistakes. After all, we had already watched them destroy themselves for such petty reasons.
But throughout all of this Tragedy and Death, all of this Famine and suffering, we've only learned one thing. And as the screeching metal of the Vault Door echoes through the cavern, I'm left to wander forward, to see this lesson with my own eyes.
The scent of death lingers in the air, and my first glance at the world I must live in.. it reminds me of something my father said to me, when I was young. Armed with knowledge gained through Books, Holotapes and Stories of the past, it's no doubt to me that he was right when he told me.. that War..
War Never Changes.
