This story is dedicated to my best friend Susanne. She has a birthday next week and this is my present.

Once again, I would like to apologize very much for my absence. I had a small accident, I hurt my leg. I have crutches now and I can't walk. Fortunately, it wasn't something more serious. I should be fine in a month. At least now I'll have more time to write:D

In conclusion, I would like to thank all my readers for their feedback. I really appreciate it. If you are new here and have not read anything from me yet, I would like to warn you that English is not my native language.

I hope you enjoy it:D

A Fairy Tales For Penny

Penny watched the night sky through her telescope. Lots of stars twinkled in the sky that evening. Some of them shone more, some less, and the others were barely noticeable. Just like people do. Some are beautiful and popular, some are evil and some are like Uncle Gadget, they have a good heart. All of them, however, form our common world in which we are happy.

Penny stopped thinking when she heard a soft snoring. She turned and looked at her dog, who was dozing contentedly on her bed. He looked funny. She sat down next to him and stroked his fine fur.

Brain opened his eyes. He gave her a reproachful look.

"I'm sorry, Brain. I didn't mean to wake you. Come on, I want to show you something!"

Penny ran to the window. She changed the position of the telescope, and Brain used it to observe the starry sky. One star was the brightest today. It was the one that shone over Gadget's house.

"I guess it's shining for us," Penny said. "Do you think Uncle's still working?"

Brain shrugged.

*Knocking on the door*

"Come in!"

Inspector Gadget was sitting at his desk, holding an ink pen.

"I am sorry, uncle. I didn't know you were still working," Penny apologized.

"It's alright. I am going to go to bed anyway," her uncle said with a smile.

He placed the pen in the inkwell that lay on the table and told his niece to sit in his lap.

"Did you have a nightmare again?" he asked her.

"No, it's just... I can't sleep. You haven't told me a story in a long time. Next week you're going to leave and I'll have to stay home alone."

He got up from his chair.

It was a detective office as it should be. On the shelves lay carefully stacked boxes full of police files, and many police awards hung on the walls. Although it looked like the office of a police chief, it was different. Inspector Gadget felt more like a parent than a police inspector all his life, and he was justifiably proud of it. Penny's coloring books hung on the bulletin board among the photographs of wanted persons, and there were fairy tale books among the detective handbooks in the library. Uncle Gadget pulled one out.

"So what story would you like to hear this time?" He asked his niece.

"Hmm... How about the one you told me when I was little?" Penny suggested.

"About a knight and a dragon?"

"Yes, this one," she replied.

"Well," inspector Gadget said and began flipping through the book.

Once upon a time there was a kingdom where Princess lived.

"No, this is not how our fairy tale will start."

One fine day, a terrible dragon appeared in a small kingdom. Everyone was afraid of him. The king declared that he would give a reward to the one who saved the princess.

There were many brave knights and young men throughout the kingdom who wanted to fight the dragon. But when they found out that if they did not save the princess, they would be punished, they left. Only one was not intimidated and set out for the dragon. Knight Andrew.

He arrived at the place when Princess Charlotte first came to see the dragon. She was sad because she was scared. "Dragon, leave the princess alone!" Andrew calls.

"But I don't want to hurt her. I want her to be my friend to protect. And with her the whole kingdom," said the dragon."And you, Knight Andrew, that you were so brave and came here to see me, I appoint you my helper for the times when people will be afraid of me. You will show them that I am not evil, but I want to help them."

Would you reject this offer? What do you say? Ondra didn't turn her down either. He received the promised reward from the king. And because Andrew and the Princess fell in love, they had a wedding and Andrew became the new king.

The end.

"But I know a better story," Penny said.

"Really?" Gadget asked her in surprise.

Penny smiled at her uncle.

There once lived a brave knight. He was different. He wore a trench coat, read a newspaper, drank cold tea, and a police badge glistened in his pocket instead of a sword. He has always protected his little princess from evil. But his titanium armor was inside. Beneath his skin was a lot of metal under which his kind heart beat.

Although he had everything he wanted, he was unhappy. He felt different from the others. Half man, half machine, who ever heard of it? People are always afraid of what is unknown and that is why they were afraid of him too. But there was still his little princess. She explained to him that what people thought might not always be true. What he hides in his heart is important.

He promised that he would never leave her, and his princess loved him very much...

"I love you Uncle Gadget," Penny said and hugged her uncle tightly.

"I love you, too, Penny," he said, looking at his watch. "Wowsers! It's too late. It's time for you to go to bed, little princess!"

"Please, wait a minute. I'm not tired," she begged him.

"I will not discuss this with you at all. Plus, you have school tomorrow. Am I right?"

"Yes, you're," she answered sadly. "Good night, Uncle Gadget."

"Good night, Penny. Sweet dreams."

Gadget rose from his chair and closed a huge book lying on the table. In fact, he didn't work. He just pasted new photos into his diary. He wrote there all the adventures they had together. But that's a different story...
