Hello, this was something that popped into my mind while I tried to work on other stuff. I just had to write it down. It's not much, but hey, better than nothing. I Guess.
"What do you want me to say?!" Daphne screamed at her best friend.
Tracey smiled up at her. "We both know you got it bad. How about you do something about it, hm?"
Yes, she got it bad. They both knew yet, yet Daphne herself couldn't admit it out loud. And how could she? They were talking about enemy number one. It could have been any other guy inside Hogwarts, and it would have been fine. But no, her stupid heart had to go to the Gryffindor Golden Boy. Harry bloody Potter.
For the last five years, she had little to no contact what's soever outside the classroom with said boy. The only Slytherin who had contact with Potter was Draco. And that relationship was so one-sided it was ridiculous. Every night Draco would bitch about Potter did this or Potter did that. Pathetic really.
Daphne tried to build her picture of Harry Potter. Messy, black hair, bright emerald-green eyes, a general cute face with a skinny body. Her first impression of the boy was not what she expected. She, as well as every other kid their age, had read the Harry Potter stories. Harry Potter was a hero, well educated, strong, kind, a magical powerhouse and a knight in shining armour. The real Harry Potter was not even close to that. He was a scrawny little kid, wore second-hand clothes and was very timid.
In her first year, Daphne realised that Harry Potter didn't live the life they thought he lived. There was no way this little boy could have done what the Books described. And so she had dismissed him. It wasn't until the end of that year that she heard about the adventure of Potters merry band of friends.
Like clockwork, every end of the year for the next four years, Potter and his friends would land in one dangerous situation after another. It was fascinating to watch, really.
"Daph?" Tracey waved her hand in front of her friends face. "Come back, Daphne." she giggled.
"Hä? Oh, sorry, I was miles away." Daphne blushed slightly, getting caught thinking about Harry Potter.
"I know, but seriously you should do something about this. It's not like you to pin after a boy."
"I don't pin after Harry!" Daphne snapped angrily at her.
"Yeah, right, Harry, it is now, yes?" Tracey countered. Daphne knew full well that Tracey tried to rile her up and she shouldn't react to her, but she couldn't say anything.
"I don't know what you are talking about, Davies," Daphne mumbled and stomped out of their Dorm room.
Her feet carried her through the halls of Hogwarts without any input of her brain. So deep in thought she was, she didn't even hear people talking around her until she recognised one voice.
"They are evil. It's a plot to get you to You-know-who. Harry have to see this." A male voice said.
"They are not evil, Ron. We've talked about this. You can't say that all of them are the same. I would agree with you if we talked about Malfoy and his cronies, but we aren't. We haven't interacted with them outside the classroom. Merlin, I don't even remember speaking to her." That was definitely Harry's voice.
Daphne knew she should eavesdrop like this, but it wasn't often one could hear these two discussing something like this in an open corridor. So she made herself as small as possible and tried to listen as best as possible to the ongoing discussion between them.
"Death-eaters in training is what they are. I don't get it how you, of all people, cannot see this. Harry, there is a war going on outside these walls. You must see who you can trust and who to avoid. We need you, and you know that." Ron sounded angry. She could imagine his face, nearly as red as his hair. But Harry bored tone sounded nothing like he normally would react to such drivel.
"Ron, I know better than anybody that there is a war going on. But we can't keep discriminating against one-fourth of the Hogwarts population. It sends them straight into Voldemorts arms. Why can't you see that." She and Ron both shivered at the name of the Dark Lord.
"Fine. Don't come to me for help if you get taken by the enemy!" Ron spat and stormed away.
"How long do you want to stay there? You can come out. Ron isn't here anymore." Harry said into the silence that stayed after Ron's departure. Daphne stiffened. She thought she was quiet during their heated exchange, and they didn't know she was there. Should she run? Did Harry know who eavesdropped on them?
"Please?" Harry tried again. Before he could turn around and leave the corridor, he saw movement down the hall. A Slytherin, of course. Who else would hear them when they were talking about them a minute ago. His free hand, not gripping his wand, went through his messy hair. A habit he had when he was nervous.
A girl, roughly his age, walked up to him. Harry knew who she was. This particular girl stared in one too many dreams of his to not remember her: long blond hair, a slime form hidden due to the horrendous design of Hogwarts Robes. High cheekbones and those beautiful clear blue eyes.
Daphne Greengrass. The only girl who could give Hermione a run for her money in all their classes. Beautiful, intelligent and no blood-supremacist as far as he knew. Not once had she said anything against him, not once did she sided with Malfoy against him. Harry only ever saw her with Tracey Davies and her own sister Astoria. Hermione told him a bit about her. Since they had Arithmancy and Ancient Runes together, Hermione had more information to go on than Harry had.
"How much did you hear?" He asked the girl as she stopped a meter away from him. His nerves were nearly failing him. This was the first time they actually spoke to each other outside classes.
"The bit about us being evil. I am sorry to eavesdrop on you like this. But really? Why discuss this in an open corridor like this where anybody could have heard you." She had yet to look him in the eyes, Harry observed.
Why, indeed, Harry thought. Rons plan to get him closer to the girl he liked felt impossible to him, yet here he was speaking to said girl for the first time.
*Flashback*
"You have a crush on a girl in Slytherin?" Ron remarked after his laughter died down. Harry sat opposite him in their common room. The two friends had talked about how Ron could win Hermione's heart. Their other best friend. Ron wanted to make sure that Harry wouldn't turn away from him if he went after her. And he got his full support. Glorious.
"Yes, OK!" Harry whispered. "Why don't you shout that out in the Great Hall for everyone to hear." Fortunately, it was late into the night, and the common room was empty beside themselves.
"Sorry, sorry. But you have to see how ridiculous this is. You could have any girl inside these walls, and you have to fell for the girl no guy could get close to."
"What can I say. I like a challenge." Harry smiled ruefully. And so they talked about his crush on Daphne Greengrass. Ron came up with the idea to plan for an encounter between the two to show her he wasn't so against a Slytherin. To break the ice, he said.
After a heated debate that spaned the whole night, Harry agreed.
"Yeah, sorry about that. But Ron can be quite dense sometimes." Harry answered her.
"It's good to know that you are not putting all of us in the same box as Malfoy." Daphne smiled up at him. A beaming smile, beautiful Harry thought.
Harry blushed slightly at her words. If only she knew. How perfect Slytherin of Ron to come up with a plan like this.
"It's not like you gave me any reason to hate you, you know. Only Malfoy does anything he can to antagonise the other Gryffindors or me." Harry told her in earnest.
"I know. It's the reason the House doesn't like him very much. Because he is the primary reason for the hate, we get from the other Houses. Of course, one can't forget about good old Snape, but that is a whole other shoe."
The two talked more. And the time flew by while they talked about everyday life. Harry's stomach announced himself, and the two teenagers broke out into laughter.
"Would you like to see the kitchen and maybe get a light snack or something?" Harry offered, his face flushed.
"Gladly." Daphne accepted. Harry offered her his arm, and together, the unlikely duo walked to the kitchen to eat.
They had a fantastic dinner, prepared by Dobby, and made their way down the corridors to the Slytherin common room. A hallway away, Daphne stopped them.
"This is far enough. Thank you, Harry. I had a lot of fun today." Daphne said, blushing slightly.
"Of course. Your welcome. I had a lot of fun too, and hopefully, we can reproduce this someday." Harry questioned. Daphne stepped up to him and engulfed him in a firm hug.
"Definitely, good night Harry." She whispered into his ear and pressed her lips against his cheek. Before Harry could say anything else, Daphne stepped away from him and disappeared around the bent into her common room.
Harry stood there, paralysed. Did Daphne just kiss him? Oh, Merlin, he lost it. A huge smile spread on his face, and Harry strolled happily to his own common room.
The following months were pure bliss for Harry. Every time he and Daphne meet up, his feelings for her grew. They made it official when after Christmas break, Harry kissed her thoroughly on the lips after one of their nights in the Room of Requirement.
Harry was the happiest he ever felt. And nothing other did could bring his mood down. Together, hand in hand, Harry and Daphne walked into the Great Hall during lunch the next day and went in the Gryffindors table direction.
Hermione's eyes were as wide as saucers. Harry would have laughed if the other on the table didn't look as surprised by this development. The only exception to this was Ron Weasley. For once, Ron's attention was on Harry instead of his food. He beamed at his best friend.
Hermione, seeing this spluttered. "RON?! Did you know about this? How, when … what?"
Ron just smirked at her and stood up to congratulate his best friend on a plan well executed.
