Chapter One: An Old Life Given New Form

He was dying, he knew that it was so and nothing could prevent that now. His battle with Ichigo Kurosaki had raged on top of the roof of Las Noches. He had even entered his Segunda Etapa, to fully shatter his opponent's resolve. How could he have ever known that it would backfire so immensely?

He had killed Ichigo Kurosaki, he knew he had, he had shot cero clean through his chest after all. Yet, by doing so he had inadvertently unleashed something terrible that laid with the soul reaper. To his surprise and before his very eyes, the substitute transformed into a true monster. A monster that was far more terrible than he could ever be.

Despite his best efforts he was completely and utterly overwhelmed by the beast that stood before him. It was only by sheer luck the creature had left himself vulnerable enough. That he could land a powerful enough attack with what little strength he still possessed, to knock the transformed soul reaper back to his normal self. Now he stood in place mortally wounded, feeling what existence he had, slipping away. He reached out with a hand towards the auburn-haired woman with a solemn expression. She reaches back with her own but just as her's was about to reach his, his being began to turn to dust.

"A pity" He begins to think his final thoughts. "Only when I'm about to die do I finally understand what a heart is. Perhaps, if I'm given another existence regardless of the form it takes. I will be entrusted with a heart of my own."

With those final thoughts, his body completely dissolves to dust in the wind.

Ulquiorra Cifer was no more.

*Musutafu, Japan*

A great many years had passed since that battle and those that came afterward. Eventually, peace had was had for all those involved and survived and went to live out their lives. Though soon enough world began to change a great deal as humanity itself began to evolve. Namely, the appearance of what would be called "Quirks" emerged, and the world would be forever changed.

Though such change came with struggles of its own as some with quirks. Sought to use their power for ill purpose while others stood against them. Eventually, those with quirks who aimed to protect would be called "Heroes". Those that would stand against the "Villians" who sought to destroy. In time human society built itself completely around quirks and the concept of heroes. With entire careers and schools dedicated to the craft.

At a local hospital in Musutafu, Japan, a woman was soon to become a mother, a single one at that. She laid on a hospital bed in a delivery room in her hospital gown. Her face covered with beads of sweat, her raven black hair clinging to her as a result. She was a taller woman with a large bust and despite being pregnant. Had a figure that would be considered fit and shapely in the right way. Her violet eyes narrowed in pain and determination as she went through the struggle of childbirth. "AAAHHHH!" she cried out as she gave one last push and felt a great weight exit her body. Soon enough she heard the cries of her newborn child.

"Congratulations, it's a girl!" The doctor spoke as she handed over the wrapped newborn to the new mother.

The mother had a look of surprise crossed her face as she took her daughter's appearance. She had tiny tufts of hair as black as her own on her head, her skin was pale. While not porcelain white to any degree it was still paler than most. Beneath each eye was a unique birthmark, a thin streak of teal lines that ran down her face. The infant opened its eyes and they were revealed to be emerald green. The mother's initial expression of shock disappeared to a loving one, as the baby girl cooed at her mom. The mother quickly wrote off her child's unique appearance as a result of her daughter's quirk. Whatever it would show itself to be as her child grew older.

"I'll call you Umeko." The mother spoke with happiness.

*Seven Years Later*

"Umeko! It's almost time to go!" The woman called out as she prepared to head to her job as a bank manager, dressed in her business suit. Seven years had passed since Sayuri had given birth to her daughter. It was challenging being a single mother, but she had managed well all things considered. Her little girl Umeko was growing up well, even if she came across a bit odd to others who met her.

Umeko had a habit of unintentionally weirding most people out upon first meeting her. Her daughter was like many other children at first when she was just an infant, once she grew up a little that changed. Umeko quickly showed herself to be very smart and analytical for a child. She could look at many things and manage to analyze them rather quickly. She thought at first it was her daughter's quirk but it proved simply to be a natural talent of hers nothing more. Umeko was quirk-less at the moment but Sayuri wasn't worried. Her daughter was still young and her quirk would show at some point she was sure.

Her currently being quirk-less wasn't what weirded people out, it was her daughter's rather unique personality. Umeko had a tendency to be rather cold, aloof, and indifferent to many things. It caused people to think she was devoid of feelings and emotion. Some might even go as far as to say she was nihilistic about everything around her. However that wasn't the truth of things, in actuality, her daughter was just very guarded when it came to her emotions. She only ever showed her emotions to those she trusted and respected. When it was just her and Umeko, her daughter did show real emotion and feelings. While it wasn't as enthusiastic as one might expect from a seven-year-old, it was there. In reality, her daughter could actually be rather caring towards those she wished to. Even if it didn't come out quite as clearly as it would for most others.

"Umeko are you almost ready? I need to drop you off at your friend's place on my to work." Sayuri called out.

"Coming mother" Umeko replied with a small tinge of excitement in her voice. The seven-year-old girl walked down the stairs to her waiting mother. Her raven black hair had grown out so now it was down to her shoulders and purposely kept messy. Though both sides around her face were clipped back by a pair of bat-shaped hair clips. She wore a grey skirt with a pair of pockets that her hands were stuffed into as she walked. The skirt hung down to her shins, which had a black bat stitched on it. Umeko had quickly taken a strong liking to bats once she discovered them. She liked to adorn many of her things with the visage of the animal. She also wore a long-sleeved shirt that was colored white and a black backpack was slung over her back. On her feet, she wore a pair of black sneakers that had green laces.

Umeko quickly joined her mother and the two left the house and got into her mother's car. As they traveled Umeko took the time to reflect on the strange dream she had last night. It wasn't the first odd dream she had experienced, the last few months her sleep had been plagued by them. She had dreams of a world that seemed to be shrouded in a never-ending night. The only light that existed being the moon that hung in the sky. The realm seemed to be an endless desert of rock and sand. Then she would have dreams of an unimaginably large white fortress with a room with a large table. Around the table sat a group of individuals who were extremely unique even by quirk user standards. Then last night's dream had been the oddest yet.

She was in the dark moonlit realm but there was someone else with her. The figure that stood before her was too blurry to make out, but she heard his voice. He was making some sort of defiant stand against her, declaring a promise to protect others. For some reason, she felt a sensation that made her view the individual whoever they were. That they were foolish, delusional, and naïve at what they believed. For some strange reason, she also felt a sense of resonation at the individual's desire to protect. It was rather confusing but that wasn't the oddest thing about the dream or the others.

The oddest part about it all was the fact, she saw everything through her own eyes. As if she had been there herself seeing it all firsthand as it happened, a fact that was all the more confusing to her.

"Is something wrong?" Sayuri asked her daughter, noticing the slight look of confusion on Umeko's face, from the corner of her eyes.

"I had another strange dream."

"I see, we all have odd dreams now and again. Such things will pass in time, they always do." Sayuri spoke trying to reassure her daughter. She knew the dreams confused her daughter. In all honesty, when Umeko first explained them to her she found them perplexing as well. Hopefully, the dreams would cease soon in time as she said.

Soon enough they arrived outside an apartment complex and the two made their way to one of the higher levels. Upon finding the door they were looking for, Sayuri knocked on it and waited. Umeko stood beside her mother, hands in her pockets a blank expression on her face. Soon enough the door opened up revealing one Inko Midoriya. She was a middle-aged woman with green hair, green eyes, and a slim figure.

"Sayuri and Umeko! How good to see you two." Inko chirped.

"Good to see you again Mrs. Midoriya," Umeko replied a tiny smile gracing her usually expressionless face. Inko and the other person she would be seeing while here. Were they only individuals along with her mother, that she allowed herself to show her emotions around.

"I'll pick you up after I get off work, be on your best behavior." Sayuri chimed to her daughter.

"Yes, mother I will."

Sayuri gave a small smile and bent down giving a quick goodbye kiss on her daughter's forehead before turning on her heel and off to work.

"Come on in Umeko, Izuku is in his room. I'm sure he'll be happy to see you." Inko spoke up.

Umeko walked inside and took off her shoes and then made her way to the room. Of her current one and only friend, she noticed the door was already open and walked right in. As per usual, her eyes were assaulted by the plethora of All-Might stuff, that seemed to cover every conceivable inch of the room. While she didn't mind the number one hero, she was a bit of a fan herself. She couldn't understand the massive obsession Izuku seemed to have for the man. Now if it was bats, that she could understand. Her room was adorned with a fair amount of bat-themed things, though not nearly on the kind of level Izuku's was with All-Might. Though she had recently been trying (and failing) in convincing her mom to allow her to have an actual bat for a pet.

She noticed Izuku was sitting in his computer chair watching a video on his computer. Umeko had no doubt the video must have been All-Might related. She simply strode up right behind him and spoke.

"Hello Izuku"

Unfortunately for her eardrums, she was immediately assaulted by Izuku shrieking like a banshee as he jumped out of his chair. Proceeding to fall to the floor in a rather unceremonious manner. He looked up with his green eyes and freckled face, some of his wild green hair covering one of his eyes for the moment.

"Umeko!" Izuku cried out almost accusingly. "Don't sneak up on me like that!"

"I didn't sneak up on you, you were merely too wrapped up in your video to notice my presence." Umeko dully replied.

"Oh yeah, that does sound like me." Izuku meekly said, now feeling embarrassed.

The green-eyed girl gave a small smile and offered a hand to pull her friend from off the ground.

"So what do you wanna do?" Izuku asked as he took the outstretched hand and pulled himself up.

"I have no plans in mind, I'm willing to do whatever you feel like"

"Ok!"

From there the two children spent a good portion of the morning playing in the apartment. Playing various games and activities eventually they made their way to a park not far from the apartment complex. The two continued to play into the afternoon without trouble. That is until an unwanted visitor made their presence known.

"What this I see here!?" A loud and obnoxious voice called out from behind Umeko and Izuku.

"I suppose it was asking too much in wanting to avoid such trouble for the day," Umeko muttered to herself once she heard the voice. She noticed the concerned look in her friend's eyes. She closed her own momentarily before opening them up, her blank emotionless expression back on her face. She turned to face the source of the disturbance, hands tucked back into her pockets.

"Bakugo" she simply said in a neutral tone, watching the overly aggressive blond make his way to them.

"Well if it isn't the two quirk-less losers." Bakugo sneered. "Cry baby, weakling Deku and the princess of emo's herself."

"Kacchan, why do you always have to be this way?" Izuku wondered meekly.

"Shut up Deku!" Bakugo snapped "Some pathetic powerless pansy like you can't tell me what to do! As for you!" The blond then put his attention on Umeko. "Quit looking at me like I somehow don't matter! I'm better than you, Deku and the rest crappy extra's in the world."

Umeko didn't make any sort of reaction and kept up her blank expression. A fact that only pissed off Bakugo as sparks went off in his hands.

"Well, are you going to say something or just keep acting like some kind of stupid statue!?"

Umeko kept an indifferent look on her face as she then spoke in an emotionless tone to Bakugo. "Quite frankly you don't matter, your arrogant, egotistical, you belittle everyone around you, and you're a bully. You desire to be a hero but exude zero heroic qualities, all in all, you're foolish and pathetic." Umeko finished to a stunned and becoming more red-faced Bakugo. She then walked past him as if he didn't even exist. "Come Izuku it's time for us to leave, I imagine your mother has some snacks and drinks for us."

Izuku said nothing and began walking alongside Umeko, sadly the pair didn't get far.

"Don't think you can say that sort of thing to me and simply walk away!" Bakugo roared angrily and launched a tiny explosion ball from his hand. Suddenly there was a small boom sound and Izuku was tossed off his feet a sent a few feet away from where he was. Izuku wasn't really hurt but he was a bit dazed.

Umeko had a look of surprise cross her face, as the boom went off and she saw her friend get thrown off his feet. The blast landed closer to Izuku than her, so she had been left unharmed. She quickly made her way to her friend.

"Izuku are you ok!?" Umeko said with concern lacing her voice.

"Yeah, I'm fine, just a bit dizzy is all," Izuku replied as he got on his hands and knees, trying his best not to cry.

"Damn I missed her, need to work on my aim," Bakugo said from behind the pair.

Suddenly remembering the one responsible for what had just happened, she felt her anger flare. Umeko at that moment suddenly felt an odd sensation course in her body. As if something had awakened, her body began to glow with green energy. Izuku and Bakugo immediately forgot what had just happened and watched Umeko, with a mixture of shock, confusion, and a small amount of fear. They weren't sure why but something about the energy suddenly radiating off of the raven-haired girl was unsettling. It felt dark, despairing, and menacing, one could even say inhuman. Suddenly the green energy encased her entire being in a dome before suddenly disappearing like it never existed, to begin with.

Umeko for her part was just as perplexed herself by what had just happened. Then she saw something even more perplexing laying by her feet. It was a sword, a katana to exact that appeared from seemingly nowhere. It was a standard-sized katana with a green handle and sheath. The guard has two curved extensions from its long sides with a line going through both sides, giving it an eye-like appearance. Umeko reached down and picked up the blade she wasn't sure why but holding the sword felt right to her. Like it was a natural extension of herself.

Izuku for his part after getting over his initial surprise was in awe but what he had just witnessed. "Umeko, what was with that energy and where did that sword suddenly come from?" He gasped as he suddenly realized it. "It all has something to do with your quirk, your quirk has awoken!"

Bakugo had also finally snapped out of his shock. "So you have a quirk after all? Guess you're not as much of a loser as I thought, not that it really matters all that much." Bakugo suddenly stopped as Umeko turned to face him, the sword held in one hand. Her other stuffed in her pocket but it wasn't the sword that was making him nervous. Her face was blank and emotionless as it seemingly always was. However, the presence she was suddenly giving off felt threatening. Like he was being looked at by some kind of predator sizing up its soon-to-be prey.

Umeko wasn't completely sure what was suddenly happening, but she wasn't really caring at the same time. She simply allowed the instinctual feeling in her body to guide her. She raised her free hand from her pocket pointing straight forward at Bakugo, her hand in a fist. She then uttered one single word that came to her mind.

"Bala"

A green circular ball of energy formed around her fist and then suddenly shot almost too fast to see with her eyes. Bakugo unfortunately, caught off guard had no chance of evading, and was slammed in the chest by the attack. He fell backward onto his back, coughing heavily, the fight knocked clean out of him.

Umeko slipped her hand back into her pocket and casually walked over to the downed blond. She stopped once she stood over him looking down at him with an indifferent expression. "Trash," she said coldly as she then turned on her heel and walked back to Izuku. Bakugo could only glare at her as she walked away, as he was still regaining his bearings. Umeko helped Izuku back up once she reached him and two immediately made their way back to the apartment.

Once the two children had made their way back to Inko, to say the woman was worried would be an understatement. After looking over the two children and making sure they were ok. She asked the two what had happened and most importantly to her, where Umeko had suddenly gotten a sword. After hearing what exactly happened, Inko immediately called Sayuri to inform her. She also called her friend Mitsuki, to inform her of her son's actions.

Not too long afterwords Sayuri arrived who after concerning herself over the kids herself for a moment. She too became surprised by the sword her daughter suddenly had in her in possession. Sayuri and Umeko gave a goodbye and headed off to a quirk doctor's office. Hopefully, that would give the answers to what exactly Umeko's quirk was. As they traveled, the young green-eyed girl suddenly posed a question.

"Are you upset with me?"

Sayuri raised an eyebrow in confusion in response. "Why would you think I'd be upset with you?"

"Because of how I used my new powers to hurt Bakugo," Umeko remarked.

Sayuri shook her head before speaking her mind. "I'm not upset with you at all sweetie. That little prick had it coming to him and could stand to be knocked down a peg or three. Besides, you only did what you did because you were protecting yourself and Izuku. I'll never be upset with you for using your powers to protect."

Umeko thought about her mother's words for a moment before giving a small smile. "Thank you, mother."

As they continued to travel, they had to pass a local cemetery along the way. Looking out the window, Umeko saw something that truly baffled her. She had never seen anything like it before. Along the graveyard she could see people floating in the air, all with chains of various lengths hanging from their chests. The odder thing was that the people who walked by those floating were completely oblivious to their presence.

The raven-haired girl cocked her head in curiosity as she quickly began to figure out what she was seeing. Her eyes widened as the supposed answer entered her mind.

Ghosts

The floating people she was seeing were ghosts. As absurd as the notion was something within her was telling her that was indeed the truth. Umeko quickly decided to keep that bit of information strictly to herself. Even with how varied quirks could be someone claiming to see the spirits of the dead. Would still be considered something rather far-fetched and some might even say crazy. Not long afterward they had arrived at the quirk doctor's office.

After being brought into the examination room, Umeko underwent a series of tests and questions. The doctor an elderly man with short grey hair and a bushy mustache. Wearing typical doctor attire turned to Sayuri after pondering for some time.

"To be bluntly honest with you, your daughter's quirk is unlike anything I've seen or heard about before. Does your own quirk relate to your daughters in any way?"

"No," Sayuri simply replied. "My quirk just allows me to chill or freeze things simply by touch when it's activated. Do you have any theory's about my daughter's quirk?"

"Well, I do believe that her sword is some sort of physical manifestation representative of her powers. Though her powers aren't limited to it, seeing how she explained she could use abilities that didn't require it. This makes me believe while it's speculation at best still. She most likely has other strengths and abilities that will become apparent in time. In all blunt honesty, her quirk is a total conundrum. I'll search the archives to see if I can find any history of other quirks, that are similar in nature. Though to be frank, I rather doubt it." The elderly doctor answered.

"I understand doctor, thanks for the help nonetheless," Sayuri remarked before giving a sigh.

"Now then," chimed the doctor. "A name needs to be given to the quirk for legal purposes but what to name it exactly?"

Umeko had been sitting on the examination table simply listening to the conversation with a blank face. Began to ponder what to name her quirk, when just like earlier when the name for Bala came to mind. Something within her made a singular word enter her head for her quirk.

"I know what to name my quirk," Umeko announced with a dull neutral tone, gaining her mother's and doctor's attention. "Call it, Murciélago."

"That's Spanish for 'Bat' if I recall correctly? Though translated into our language it would mean 'Great Black-Winged Demon'. A bit sinister, wouldn't you say?" Pondered the doctor.

"It's the only name that feels appropriate," Umeko replied in a cold tone as she stared at the doctor with an emotionless expression.

The doctor felt a shiver from the girl's gaze but kept his composure and wrote the quirk name down. "Could you repeat your full name for me as I write it down on the quirk registry paperwork?"

"My name is Umeko Kurosaki."

A/N: Hello readers! I hope enjoyed this first chapter of this story. I know some will find this popping up rather surprising so I shall explain as best I can. I've felt a strong urge to do a Bleach x MHA crossover for some time now. So much so I couldn't focus on anything else until I wrote something out for this. I've also been wanting to start a story with a female MC. I've never done it before and felt the urge to go for it with this story. Now on to Umeko herself.

Umeko is the reincarnation of Ulquiorra but she is not Ulquiorra himself. Think of it like Avatar, Aang and Korra share the same powers and abilities as their past selves. They may even share certain personality and physical characteristics as their pasts selves but are still their own person. Hopefully, I made that clear with Umeko so far. Umeko simply chooses to be cold, aloof, and indifferent to things when she wants to be. Ulquiorra was that way to everything all the time around him period.

Murciélago and all the powers associated with it have manifested as a quirk instead of straight-up spirit powers. This was meant to make sure Umeko wasn't going to be stupidly OP. While certain things may be as strong as we know them from the start once she begins to dig deeper into her powers. The more destructive abilities like Bala, Cero, and so on. Won't be crazy strong from the start. While they could reach the insane power levels as we know it will take many years of training to even begin reaching that point. Hence why the Bala simply knocked the wind out of Bakugo instead of straight-up killing him. Again, this's meant to ensure Umeko is kept balanced and doesn't wipe the floor with everyone right away.

Ulquiorra himself will be reappearing eventually as she delves deeper and begins to understand just exactly who and what she is. He'll be like what the past Avatars are to Aang and Korra. Though he will come to exist in this story as the inner spirit of Murciélago. Also, Hueco Mundo/ Las Noches along with Soul Society will become aware of this development eventually. How they will react upon learning I haven't decided just yet, especially for a certain strawberry soul reaper.

I will admit this is something of an experiment and me wanting to see the general reaction. To this little idea of mine before I decide just how quickly I want to move with this.

Not much else to say for the time being. In the meantime, please leave a review as they do help keep me motivated to write. Please like and fav if you have not already and stay safe, stay healthy. I'll see you next time. I'm out!
